If you can't score goals then the best you can hope for is 0-0 ie one point. I can't see where the goals will come from.

You need to get balls in the box, be able to attack the keeper and be able to shoot from outside the box. We are not doing any of this

I wonder if we are lacking in a true attacking coach. Koeman no doubt has brilliant knowledge in setting up a defence, but who in our coaching staff is actually able to contribute to the attack from experience? It would certainly explain why we have no plan B sometimes.

This is why bringing back Lickie Rambert would have made sense in my opinion

We def need some attacking options. I reckon Moses would have been a good addition, he's looked like an absolute brute against Newcastle tonight. I think we need to use Juanmi more and we def missed a trick not signing a striker. We are way too one dimensional at the minute.

Loads of players doing ok makes it look like we've missed out. Sinclair, vardy, Austin, etc but I'm sure saints have evaluated the options and for the money we can afford to pay maybe felt they will have better options come January or next summer. I'm sure as professional coaches, team of analysts and common sense they see what we all see , we need a 15 goal a season guy. they'll do the proper background work before they move on a target . van Dijk took 18 months after they identified him as a target. I would rather buy well than have another osvaldo situation. It's going to cost 15 million plus unless they unearth a real hidden Jem. Do admit thought we'd of seen more of juanmi though.

Pelle, Rodriguez, Long, Juanmi, Mane, Seager (Gallgher, out on loan) - I don't think Saints needed a striker in the summer.

They needed players who could provide for the strikers. And they didn't sign a single one, for reasons best known to themselves. They must've been comfortable with not scoring in 29% of games last season.

The club has been heavily focussed on getting our defensive areas sorted out and seeing how the new players a lot in. I'm including Romeu in that too.
Perhaps we soon be looking at a more attacking formation and have one holding midfielder instead of the two we normally play with. And I agree with the other poster that I'd like to see Juanmi given a role somewhere up front so that we have a bit of genuine pace there.

Koeman said we played an attacking formation against West Brom, a 4-1-4-1 I believe. Our best performances have always been as a 4-2-3-1, but right now the attack isn't clicking. The game against Man United is a perfect opportunity for the players to outperform expectation. I would really love to see Juanmi start in place for Rodriguez, let's see what he can do through the middle with Tadic and Mane on the wings.

Think roko see's things different to us, it wasnt very attack minded against wba same as saying our 2nd leg at mityjland was our best performance

Must be a different RoKo who was in charge last season at home against Sunderland! With an attacking coach could have been 20-0! LOL

But then we sold so many goal scorers this summer?!

One step at a time. Replaced 4 in our back five and have concentrated on sorting out teething problems. Getting there with that. With that platform it will not be long before we see the attacking side click into gear.

I have just watched the Leicester/Villa game and I just saw a match where passion and belief was the winner . We don't have that at the moment, we seem to be in a slow motion rut probably on the back of being knocked out of the Europa Cup . We need urgency and pace in midfield and out wide, we have this alleged Black Box to get the best players in Europe for little money . I have just watched Mahrez who cost half a million from Le Havre show just about everything we are missing as an attacking force, he was just outstanding . It was also the style of play, you don't have to defend too much when you have the opposition on the back foot as they were all of the second half . I can see Leicester doing well similar to us last year reason being they were unfancied and wanted to prove the critics wrong, in our case this season we have to try to follow up our high standards we achieved . We need our midfielders to score some goals ( look at our record with this ) nobody could hit a cow's arse with a shovel . We can only achieve that by playing quick pressing football and to do that we needed a high quality attacking midfielder and the club didn't think we needed one . I do .

Not so much passion and belief as just pace and intensity.

Saints are so slow and lethargic it's unbelievable. Mane's the only one who can inject a bit of life into their play. They pass slowly, they move slowly, they think slowly.

You say Mahrez, I was watching Wes bloody Hoolahan for Norwich yesterday and thinking we don't even have a player like that on the books. And he's just an honest Championship pro with an eye for a pass and a bit of get up and go.

I remain perplexed at Saints' refusal to address their shortcomings in attack during this transfer window. They've bought in four defenders, but not a single midfielder who can pass forward.

Some appear convinced Clasie's going to one day return from injury to be that creative fulcrum, but I think they're clutching. He'll play deep, alongside Wanyama, in the position he's always played. It'll once again fall on Ward-Prowse or Davis to be the main source of inspiration from the middle of the park, which is a pretty sad indictment of where the squad is at.

They've scored from open play in two of their last seven games. Even the most rose-tinted glasses can't make that look anything other than a worrying long-term trend - they didn't score in 11 of 38 games last season.

If Pelle could pass the ball to players along the ground, that'd be great. Also if we could stop trying to play Davis as the creative spark in attack, that'd also be great. We look VERY similar to the back end of last season. Which is kinda good now because we looked more capable at defending in that game, even with two wing-backs who aren't the greatest defenders and without a partner for Wanyama (who played well). But you know, we can't play Romeu along side him because that'd mean taking Davis out of the team who is so crucial to our attack :(

But it's also pretty bad since our attack looked dead on the same as last season. Still relying on Tadic or Mane brilliance out of nowhere to win us games. But we didn't buy an attacking midfielder or even a striker for some reason. Not that I thought a striker was as necessary as some were making out since we have long and jrod, but if were not even buying an attacking mid then at least get some first team quality in attack. Strange feeling when our centre-backs have the most attacking drive in our team.

Sorry for negativity but I've been holding it back for a while now, so it's not just reactionary to one game.

Whilst we didn't buy an out and out attacking midfielder, the player with the creativity we are missing through the middle I genuinely believe is Clasie. Davis and JWP don't compliment each other, neither had the willingness to make a convincing approach in attack instead making the safe backwards or sideways pass. Ultimately it has to be one or the other, and I thought it was a real shame not seeing Juanmi given the opportunity to come on in the last quarter of an hour for one of them.

But people have been saying this for months as mentioned not a new thing, but people banging on about we have enough offensively now with jayrod juammi etc have there tinted goggles on again, we should have bought a creative cm who can get us 10 goals and slide little balls through, someone like Praet, Mikitarian, siggurdson or personally I would have loved Shaquiri, i'm glad vvd settled in yesterday and handled Rondon well and ill put my hands up didn't think he had it in him BUT if only we had bought a acm we couldve been a bit more of a force and 4pts better off, oh well upwards and onwards coyr
