The excuse everyone made for Tadic's frankly appalling form (and attitude) since November was that he was carrying an injury and bravely soldiering on like a champ. That's why he only "looked" like he was never trying.

Don't know what excuses people will come up with now to defend his sluggish, barely jogging, zero commitment disappearing act, as the man himself has been telling us all how fighting fit and ready for action he is.

To think, there was a time (for about five minutes) when some of us actually referred to him as an upgrade on Lallana. He's not even an upgrade on Ramirez. A disinterested passenger just passing through until some other sucker offers him a hefty payday.

He wouldn't have gotten in Pochettino's Saints with that lack of work rate and effort. But I'm sure Koeman will again indulge him for months on end and the side will have to get used to playing with 10 men every week.

I can put up with crap players - we've certainly had our fair share at Saints over the years - and even quite enjoy the cult status some are afforded, but I just cannot abide footballers who quite obviously couldn't give two shits.

We were taught a painful football lesson, like we did to Sunderland last season. The world continues to turn, RoKo will sort it-not sure Jose will! Chelsea for the Championship? (Anyone notice however great Morgan was for us Utd actually scraped a win this weekend and Toby played a pretty average match for Spuds?)

These results are common place in the first few matches-just ask Arsenal and Chelsea.

Let's all get back to Fantasy Football-we play scintillating
stuff every week, win by a hat-full with nothing conceded, and romp to the league title and champions league without breaking sweat. Absolute boredom (and fantasy). But some would still whinge.

I concur-get a grip.

As the Eds. did their job on my more expressive comments, perhaps I could just ask a question?

Who achieved the assist for one of our goals at Newcastle, and helped us get a point?

15 Aug 2015 21:35:52
I think we need to play 4-2-3-1 with sketlenburg in goal, fonte and vvd (sign him now) as the cb and as the fullbacks Bertrand (when he's back) and Cedric (even though he looked awful today) as the 2 holding midfielders romeo and wanyama, the wingers mane and J-rod (when he's 100%) as the attacking midfielder jordy clasie and the striker Charlie Austin (sign him up 15m is a bargain)
Then I think we will get top 10

15 Aug 2015 22:49:48
Why would we play Clasie, a defensive midfielder, as an attacking mid?

Agree4 Disagree0

16 Aug 2015 10:13:59
Classie can play anywhere in midfield.
My concern about signing him is that he looks a little light weight for the Premier league as a DM.
Koeman stated this week in his presser that Oriel was his first choice as a replacement for Morgan. With all the noise about Classie, that took me a little by surprise.

The team that took to the pitch yesterday is nowhere near Koeman's first choice team.
I think that given a fully fit squad, Koeman would have had five different players in the squad, so as harsh as yesterday's results feels, We needn't panic just yet!

Keep calm, Support the Saints!

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I did say all along Clasie was not being brought in to replace Schneiderlin, the club were trying to sign him to play with him. It just didn't work out like that.}

16 Aug 2015 15:29:22
Cedric was better than Tadic attacking. he is a good signing I feel. with Van Dijk and Clasie back there will be sufficient cover when he does blaze forward.

problem is about that not being Koemans preferred starting eleven is , I thought the whole idea of expanding the squad was to be able to rotate the squad with our expected extra
games to be played . Comments are now that we were missing some key players through injury , I thought the whole point of bringing in these extra players was to be able to cope when we have injured players . Have a feeling we have left everything a bit late as we could be playing major catch up in a couple of weeks time.

Agree0 Disagree1

18 Aug 2015 11:39:22
Not sure bringing in 5 players at the start of pre season is "leaving it a bit late "

Agree0 Disagree0

18 Aug 2015 14:55:28
I get your point but we have not brought in a quality CB which is the main position we needed from pre season onwards and I know we have been unlucky with injuries but we should have a second back four up our sleeve . At the moment we have a sort of back one and a half . Injury will hit us throughout the season and if our deputy players play like they have done we will be in serious trouble unless we sort it now. Having said all this I think Romeu looks promising and he should have been played from the start against Everton and left Shane on the bench so that we could have had more control in midfield . Bring Shane on as an impact player as we normally do seems more the way to go for me , you can't take Morgan out of the side and play with more or less 4 forwards , it is almost football suicide and it showed last Saturday .

Reading a few negatives about Yosh. bit unfair I feel. Midfield did not dominate or protect and imho Big Vic failed to show up today and although I have defended him before Davis is beginning to look off the pace.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

15 Aug 2015 16:54:04
Indeed, but then the majority of football fans are fickle in their opinions. It's easier for some to point fingers at certain players today than have the patience to give new players a chance to settle and the team to find it's cohesion.

Agree1 Disagree1

15 Aug 2015 20:35:43
I was shocked today with the amount of abuse against Targett, I genuinely thought of everyone on the pitch, he actually had a decent game. (Didn't get forward enough)

Davis, isn't a holding midfielder and had we started the new dude, who looked pretty handy, things may have been different.

Long was dodgy today, he is a much better impact player rather than a starter, Cedric was frankly sketchy at best, yosh was absolutely ruined by lukaku today. I think a new cb and Bertrand back we could be ok, throw in classie, mid table- I'd settle for that

There are days when you've just got to hold your hands up and say well done to the opposing team. Everton looked very good, and on that evidence they should be challenging for top 4.

As for Saints, we missed Morgan. We were unbalanced. Defensively we were poor.

Everton made sure by playing 4-1-4-1 that they had additional cover on the wings to stop our full backs getting forward, and so we had to try to break them down through the center of the park where we were quite frankly outclassed.

It's not all bad news. Oriel looked like a class act, Mane looked dangerous, and we'll strengthen the defense.

Overall, we have a far stronger squad, but we currently have a weaker first 11.

15 Aug 2015 14:56:42
Same as last week, wrong formation in the first half left us too exposed in midfield, made us easier to break down on the counter. We needed Romeu to start, as the 4-2-3-1 /4-3-3 formation change in the 2nd half allowed us to control possession in the middle of the field much more, and shielded the back four better. Didn't think Cedric or Targett were getting as much support as they should do.

Unfortunately we weren't clinical enough with our chances either, Mane and Pelle both had two clean shots on goal, could have been a different result if they'd gone in.

and if we play like that on Thursday, our European involvement will come to a very abrupt ending. Very disappointed with the performance and the result

Agree1 Disagree0

15 Aug 2015 20:57:40
I think the reason we controlled possession more in the 2nd half was because we were 2 - 0 down and Everton were sitting on their lead . We were a mess today and never looked like we could match them , no midfield , long ball hit and hopes and no pace at the back . We will struggle if we don't get the holding midfield sorted and get the back four working together . Targett is not the answer to be honest and chickened out a couple of times against much tougher opponents , no way would Bertrand have let players by him like Targett did.

Like I said in previous posts the attacking part of our team is fine.
But losing 4 out of 5 of our defensive system is going to cause us teething problems.
(Forster, Clyne, Fonte, Alderweireld and Bertrand).
RK has to start from scratch and it's clear from the Everton game we lack pace and organisation.
Yoshida gets caught too often, Cedric was bullied by Lukaku and Targett who did ok, was a bit lightweight.
I wasn't overly impressed with Romeu, but he will need time to settle and VW was left exposed by SD.
Dusan Tadic obviously rooms with Gaston Ramirez hence the influence. Lol
2 games in, let's have some patience.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Aug 2015 13:41:45
0-2 h/t. Total shambles, really. Lukaku has bullied the entire defence, the midfield is non-existent, unable to either keep possession or protect the back four.

It's exactly the same issue that has plagued every performance so far this season - Everton even scored a carbon copy goal of the Newcastle one from last week.

It's concerning that Koeman doesn't seem to have noticed it or cared to address it. Playing four forwards and two midfielders is just suicidal. The space Everton have had in the middle of the park has been an absolute joke.

Going to be a rough season, chaps. One new centre back isn't going to solve everything.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

15 Aug 2015 14:30:52
We are missing our injured players and look light weight in midfield.

A new centre back will not help. We need two creative mid field players who can control the game and help to create chances.

Goalkeeping position is also critical.

These must be addressed or we will struggle this year.

Good lord. If the 'Hoddle & Savage' combo wasnt awful enough, we now have the well-trodden dulcet pessimistic tones of Q to throw in to the mix. Not sure which I dislike more.

Lukaku had an absolutely exceptional match. He was far too much for the two young fullbacks and exposed Yosh, over and over again.

Thought Everton deserved the win.

Need a new CB.

0-3 f/t. What else is there to add? Outplayed and outclassed in every conceivable way by a side that will finish around 9th.

Everton were stronger, faster, more clinical and, most troubling of all, more organised.

Defensively, it was another horror show. Going forward it was predictable and pedestrian.

Bad day at the office or a sign of things to come?

Not a rumour. Seen the line-ups for today. Have both Cedric and Tadic down the right against Cleverly and Galloway, the latter being very inexperienced. Praying we smash down the right not only with our players there being very creative and dangerous but also to go through Everton's apparent weakness. Won't be happy without 3 points today!

We must action quickly to shore up the PL. Forget about the Europs Cup as I said before. This season already looks like it has to be consolidation and consolidation fast.

15 Aug 2015 16:06:08
Forget about Euro Cups? Why? So we can finish top 6 and play same Euro cup next season. I know it will be tough season for us, but I'm pretty sure we can finish around 10th this season with good run in Euro cup, too. It's unrealistic to finish top 6 and have good season in Euro Cup.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Aug 2015 18:43:54
winning the euro cup guarantees us champions league football, I'd take that and finishing mid table than the outside possibility of us bettering last season finish, even with the same squad as last season it'd be hard for us to break into the top 6

We are now only one player short of a 'full bus' and hopefully VVD has already agreed a move as its rather quiet which I think is positive. Celtic have their cup game on Wednesday and will have finished the 2nd leg prior to the close season, I think that an agreement is in place. If Celtic win through. they will have what they want. the cash. from Europe and VVD is not as imperative if they qualify for the final stages. If they don't win, they need the cash injection and so I bet you a "Pound for a pinch of Pig doodoo" that the clubs have agreed terms.
McQueen is looking strong and will reinforce the squad, my view is McCarthy is also going to break through. Hopefully Forster will be back after Xmas and Jay Rodrigues will be in the top 6 premier goalscorer's by the end of the season.
Off to the Everton game today. its going to be a tough old game Fonte to score the opener on a 3-1 win. Happy Days. :-))

hopefully this is this is the case. would love Vvd hit the post from 30 yards last week? his free kicks (a threat we have lacked since SRL) he would intergrate better than koulibaly. we look a bit thin on the bench defensively today, very glad we have martina today. he played well when he came on last week.
