people saying Davide Astori is close to joining Saints! he is playing for Italy at the confederations cup!. so how on earth is he close to joining us? logic.

Agents? .

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would he sign when we have just signed a CB

Why are there a lot of people naming their proposed 2013/14 season line-up and including Forren in it? Has anyone actually seen him play the past season? I know in theory he is the opposite footed of Lovren but can he step up as he had half a season to either get fit or shake off injury. I'm wondering whether we got a bit stitched up with him. Did anyone see him in the reserves and can offer up an informed opinion?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I watched him in one game and he was very good. He seemed to be out to prove a point, but at the game someone else said that they had seen him play previously and he was poor.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Agree0 Disagree0

Forren is a Norway international who also interested Liverpool He has Champions league experience so cannot be that bad Don't judge him by a couple of reserve matches

Agree0 Disagree0

Look into it yourself he was brought at the end of molds season and was only brought for next year. He is rated as the best young defender to come out of Norway for a very long time. personally he would be a dead cert to start the new season for me he's trained so should be well upto pace by now surely

Agree0 Disagree0

Forren was brought with the intention of playing next season, seems stupid that we didn't use him at all last season, but that's why people have included him in their starting 11

Agree0 Disagree0

It was written into his contract when he signed in jan that he would be given a long rest as he signed at the end of the season where he had been before. Apparently it was in the contract (arrangement) when he signed that in the current season he would only be picked of it was absolutely necessary. I find this hard to believe but I heard that form Jason Dodd. (Coach for the youth team at saints)

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks. Very good constructive posts. Will look forward to watching him this coming season then.

Where does this Banega actually play and what type of player is he? I've only heard good things about him so far so sounds great! COYR!

We are an ambitious club so I say we try a double deal with Valencia for Ever Banega and Roberto Soldado.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Are you insane

Agree0 Disagree0

Soldado is one of the best strikers in Europe. He would want to play Champions League football and would cost over £20m.

Pochetino is hoping to use his Argentinian links to secure the signature of relatively unknown striker, Lionel Messi. The only potential catch on the deal is whether he'd be happy to sit on the bench for a while until he improves to the level of current striker, Rickie Lambert.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I suppose this is a banter page so engaging in reductio ad absurdum is probably acceptable. But in all seriousness I doubt anyone thinks Messi will join the saints or that Lambert would be picked ahead of Messi if that was the direct competition.

Agree0 Disagree0

I heard that we are after Ronaldo too due to MPs links with the bbva

Agree0 Disagree0

What a jealous skate just trying to wind us up ;) when will people learn we are a rich club with great ambition. Why would we be looking at under sized players? He'd get bullied in the prem, players like Rio Ferdinand will clearly out pace him! We want better quality! ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Why would we need Messi when we have Adam Lallana - He makes Messi look s***e.

The Hooper rumour has started up in the Mirror again. Apparently we are going to put in an £8m bid. Personally would like to see him at the club but think he is over priced at that sort of money.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Any club would be mad to pay £8million for Hooper. Far too much.

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought he was Adkins b#*ch, so am surprised to hear we are still in for him, but. Billy Sharp is off to join Adkins again if he can pass another medical

Southampton need rb cover. I was thinking a move for somebody in the ilk of Santiago arias- sporting Lisbon would be ideal cover.
Anybody got any ideas of who we may be looking at to fill the rb spot to contend with clyne?
Jas19

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Jesus Gamez from Malaga was being looked at apparently.

Agree0 Disagree0

Arias plays for Sporting CP. I would prefer someone older, whom Clyne and Shaw can learn off.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sporting CP = Sporting Lisbon

Got to be a 20 goal striker next. But the most interesting point is the formation we will play. I like the 4231 which may see Rickie on the bench for a new striker and Adam Gaston Jay behind.

Can easily see Lov and Fos starting with Nath and Luke.

My squad
Boruc
Clyne Lov Fos Shaw
Spider Cork
Jay Gaston Adam (or another ACM)
New Striker

Gazza Yos Fox JWP Punch Maka Rickie

Your thoughts

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Who the hell is Fos?

Agree0 Disagree0

The 4, 2, 3, 1 formation is a very good one and would suit everybody in the squad, but I can see it being more like,

(Gk) Boruc
(Rb) clyne (Cb) Lovren (Cb) Forren (Lb) Shaw

(Cdm) spider (Cdm) cork

(Cam) Gaston (Cam) Lallana

(Cf) rodrigues

(ST) Lambert/new striker if we sign one to share playing time

The best thing is if you play it wide and with the team playing in a high pressure game then the defense will be a lot harder to break down. This would be a very good formation as it would suit all players

EastSaint

Agree0 Disagree0

Boruc

clyne lovren forren shaw

benega cork
schinderlin
ramirez lallana
lambert

subs. ward prowse, mayuka, davis, punch, yoshida, j. rod

Agree0 Disagree0

A 20 goal striker? Proven in the PL? That won't cost too much then. Van Persie fits the mould, let's get him.

Agree0 Disagree0

We are not going to play anything other than 4-2-3-1. Certainly not 4-2-2-1-1

It would be amazing if we have this team at the start of the season

Boruc ( or new better GK, media suggesting we're looking for one)

Clyne Lovren Forren Shaw

Cork, Spider

Lallana Banega Rodriguez

Lambert

subs Gazziniga, Fonte/Yoshida, Ward-Prowse Davis, Puncheon, Ramirez, Mayuka

(seeing as clyne and forren can play LB and cork RB only one defender on the bench, Ramirez on bench until he shows good form)

I would be happy with this which means just signing Banega and maybe a class GK

obviously we are likely to sign a full back, a striker/winger and maybe even Astori as well. Although that looks a very strong 18 anyway

Great times to be a saints fan

also Fox and Hooiveld can go please + others but I would like them to leave in particular. Good for us in championship, massive liability in the premiership.

Thoughts on this one lads:
As good and valuable Lambo has been for us, he ain't going to last for ever. Wouldn't be surprised if he bagged around 15 again next year with regular starts but also wouldn't be surprised if he started being dropped more IF we signed a proven prolific striker. If we aim to be a top side in PL u rekon we need a 20+ striker. Rodriguez will only get better and better and rate him highly, don't think Mayuka is the answer but arguably deserves a chance and no-one from youth set up ready for next level just yet. Tricky one.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Lambert has got another season or two in him. But you are right he is going to start playing less and less. Rodriguez has come good at the right time too as he's really made a case for being Lambert's successor. If we get another pure goalscorer Lambert should play less next season and hopefully get some good performances off the bench. I like Lambert but planning for the future is also important and I think Cortese and Pochettino will be doing so.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think with a more solid defense, and a little more craft in attack, Lambert could potentially score more next year.

However, he isn't a Duracell Bunny, and will run out of juice at some stage, so expect a quality striker this window.

Agree0 Disagree0

Like to see him play regularly until Hodgson opens his eyes and sees that he needs and england cap to put the cherry on top of his saints career

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets be honest, if England was flying and banging goals in for fun, then I'd say far enough. But the fact remains England are generally appalling and struggle to hold onto the ball. Woy wants more mobile players in the team, but Ricky holds the ball, and brings other player into the game. Sheringham wasn't mobile either, but he showed that it can work at international level.

As a Saint, I don't want Ricky to play for England, but as a Ricky fan, I hope he gets his chance. He certainly can't do any worse than the same old players picked time and time again by Woy and his England cronies
