Can I just say.
1. I think Poch has been superb overall!
2. FA cup was not a high point, but I can understand trying to prioritise competitions.
3. I have not been overly impressed by our big name signings: Osvaldo, Vic (Poch?), Gaston (Adkins?) maybe Cortese?
4. Adam, Spider, Jrod, Shaw, Chambers have all come on and Cork after being dropped for the big money man, plus Jose who must have felt threatened?
5. Lovren, great buy.
So when we moan, don't take it too seriously, not this season anyway, we're a top half premier league team with England internationals, and player of the league nominees

Completely agree apart from no. 3

Unpopular opinions, I know, but on the pitch Osvaldo was pretty good, an average of a goal every 3 games (never the full 90 either) is good for a player learning the league, team and language - Rickie's got the same goal scoring average and no one moans about him being a bad player! The suspension from the Newcastle game and the way he left the club was a negative and inexcusable but on the pitch he was pretty decent.

Wanyama's long passing is his only let down, his simple passing game and break up play is fantastic, everyone who feels let down by him expected him to be something he's not and has never been.

Ramirez, since the everton game has been decent, that's been his first real run in the team this season too, he could have put in those performances all season, who knows though. Last season was disappointing from him, but given his family trouble it's understandable, this season we've seen a lot more of the player he's been touted to be - hopefully it continues

Please tell me what you drink?
When I'm feeling down I'd love a pint of it.
Osvaldo is now valued at half whet we paid, fact.
Big Vic is going nowhere but I really think we wouldn't get anywhere near what we paid, in fact I'm sure of it.
Gaston cameos are few and far between and that's it. And he's had two years to prove his worth.

We all are worried about out cash flow so a little bit of Maths for next season.

Income 100M less wages 50M less transfer debt 27M plus sales 20M = Spending power 43M as break even give or take a little tax.

Lets get Forster/Foster/Marshall/Ruddy 5M
Richards/Shawcross/Caulker 8M
Hunt Free
Hernandez 15M
Zaha 10M

With a bit of change for the winter window.

So that leaves me with a starting XI of:-

Marshall Chambers Shawcross Lovern Shaw
Spiderman Cork Hunt
Lallana Hernandez Lambert

Boruc Clyne Fonte Wanyama JWP Zaha Davis along with JayRod come Christmas

Dani Gaston Barny Guly Sharp Jos Kelvin and Forte all gone to free wages

Yos Sam Reed and Gazza in reserve

That's it then, sorted.
I would like to nominate pudletownsaint for next manager, saving on Poch's wages will put us in the black.

I like your idea but I don't believe that the players you chose really fit into the Saint's high pressure style.

So for me:

Keylor Navas - 7 million
Samuel Umtiti - 8 million
Rémy Cabella - 11 million (Montpellier midfielder)
Michy Batshuayi / Danny Ings 10 million

I wouldn't expect all of them to sign but I'd hope for 2 or more of these ideally.

Boruc
Chambers - Umtiti - Lovren - Shaw
Cork / Wanyama
Cabella - Davis
Lallana - Lambert / Michy - Rodriguez /Gastón

Agree0 Disagree0

Interesting, I think:
Fraser Forster 5m
Mateo Mussachio 15m (probably more and unlikely)
Danny Ings 8m

then get rid of Hoiveld, Fox, Forte, Barnard, Guly and sell Osvaldo, hopefully get 10m for him, then next year in 4-2-3-1:

Forster/Boruc
Clyne/Chambers
Mussachio/Yoshida
Lovren/Fonte
Shaw/Tagart
Cork/Wanyama
Shneiderlin/Davis/Reed
J Rod (when fit)/ Ings
JWP/ Ramirez
Lallana/ Mayuka
Lambert/ Gallagher

+ all the youth players like McQueen, Isgrove, Sinclair, Rowe.
Then we have a lot more depth, hopefully we can keep Gaston fit as I think he has a lot to offer and has been good when he's played of late, providing 2 assists in very little game time, Mussachio is a player I was surprised that we're linked to and we should go all out for him as he is class.

Congrats to Lallana and Shaw for their nomination, incredible achievements and great recognition from other teams for them to be voted for! Shows how far they've come, was also pleased to see the amount of English players nominated. All thanks to clubs like us Everton and Liverpool who give young players a chance, hopefully more clubs will copy us, so we can start getting more young players into the National squad, think Villa are trying to do the same and had been 10th for most of the season but have had a slump recently, gunna be tight on Saturday but I think a 2-1 win

So what I have been seeing on this site is some very negative Saints fans post all doom and Gloom well I for one do not believe that saints going to turn into a mid-table team like some fans :S

Anyway I think that KL will invest in the summer yes we do have 22 million to pay of this year but we will most likely break over 100 million this year for being in the premier league I may not know the exact amount or how it works but i'm sure KL won't keep the whole 100 million. i'd say she will pay of the 22 million give us 30-40 million and keep the rest i'm not sure on the exact amount again but I do believe se will give us or the club will have a lot to spend in the summer. I believe that KL can see what her father saw in us as a club the potential to be in the top 6 were the real money is. there is no point just aiming low because the money is in Europe. she'll be making her money back easy if they play their cards right. also why would they be trying to expand around the world and commercially if there was no long term plan. and one last thing once are new training groundis done well be able to match anyone in the top flight for training facilities

have a good one

Completely agree with you :)

I expect to see a few smart signings to really improve the team (think the Lovren move last year), but probably no big, record-setting signing. Those haven't worked out so well for us, anyway. I hope the scouts have been earning their pay this season, setting up a good shortlist of targets.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good post, we actually only made a net loss (including transfer fees) of 7.2m, (at least I think that's right, but by finishing 8th and TV right money next season should give us more than enough pay back other clubs as well as a decent transfer budget on the side, not to mention Katarina will hopefully be investing more money into the club, as she said to the press a few months a go, she wants the club to keep progressing, which it will do.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we should be reading more into Kruger's real role and what it shows Katharina is doing.

Kruger is being used as a simple businessman. He is there to expand marketing. That is how Katharina is planning to build us to running profits each year rather than a loss like this year.

Therefore that indicates he will need a big team to expand the market for the club. Southampton could really take off in the USA where they love an underdog, but in order to get the status over there we have to build to show what we are capable of over here. Leibherr is no fool and she knows she has to invest to achieve that.

i think saints need a new gk in the summer. if it was me I would get a bargain on the mexico international ochoa who is out of contract in the summer and could be a real bargain. go ahaed and watch his youtube videos, he's great!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I say no. Not good enough for the Premier League. He's not good enough at judging the flight of the ball in the air, and can't control his box well enough against strong players. Ligue 1 is about his level.
