Seems like Alvaro Gonzalez is happening. £8 million for a 29 year old utility player doesn't look good business to me, but there we go. Does a job at RB and RW, but is mainly a defensive player.

What happened to the transfer policy of buying in young talent in the 21-24 range and training them up? The likes of Gonzalez and Pelle have no resale value and are merely a short term "fix" at great expense - the kind of player they should be getting in on loan rather than shelling out for.

U need experienced players around the young ones the market is inflated everyone knows that, a fellow uraguayan could also help gaston, isgrove is a young winger and so is McQueen u can't expect them to walk straight into the first team all at once need to be fed in pelle up top will be good for Gallagher to learn uphold play from etc, u need senior players in a squad for big games and set examples of on field and off field behaviour

Agree0 Disagree0

We need to have one or two quick fix players as well as the young to build for the future. I think we're bringing a good balance in. Forster, despite maybe not having the best opening game has a lot to offer for a long time. Bertrand and Taider, if they impress this season, could become permanent with a long career ahead of the pair of them and players like Tadic and Gardos are based around the same philosophy of building from unknown gems.

However, we need these talents now to have a successful season this year, this means bringing in some PL and otherwise experienced players (Long, Pelle, maybe Gonzales). Personally I'd like a younger option for the right wing slot like Redmond with PL experience and a lot of talent (with McCarthy to cover RB) but Gonzales (also RB I believe) could offer a lot himself as an alternative option.

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's be positive lads! All the best Pl teams combine experience with youth! Good to have the likes of Terry, Lampard even Drogba to help with development. nowt wrong with a good utility player but we need a winger soon. We have to score goals.

It could be a move to allow Clyne to get forward and not sacrifice cover at the back. Just a thought.

Agree0 Disagree0

Good shout Martin clyne is good going forward

Agree0 Disagree0

Not happening, Clyne will leave next season to Chelsea

I saw this on another page and thought this could be kinda fun. Things we learned from the first game of the season;

1. Southampton's demise was greatly exaggerated.
2. James Ward-Prowse is probably Englands best up and coming midfielder.
3. Wanyama has figured out he isn't Pirlo.
4. Wanyama might actually be good.
5. We should probably started putting up missing posters for Ramirez.
6. Yoshida shouldn't be in the Premier League.
7. For all the pace players we have made (Ox, Walcott, Bale) we badly need one for ourselves.
8. Clyne should probably be a winger.
9. Never underestimate how much the Algerians love Taider.
10. Manchester United still suck.

Anyone got any more to add?

Haha this made me laugh

Yoshida wasn't all that bad really, I mean he isn't top of the league standard but he doesn't deserve the stick. He is a talented lad and well worth being a squad member as an option.

Forster was my most disappointing because the goals were preventable had he committed himself, the first was particularly disappointing as he set himself in the area goalkeepers call "no man's land". I know he can play better and look forward to seeing it from him, but I think he needs a confidence boost.

I didn't think forster was that bad. Made sone good reflex saves. Was let down a bit by the defence

Trying to figure out what game everyone watched. Forster couldn't do anything about the first goal, was placed right in the corner. Had he not come out to tighten the angle Stirling would have had an easier finish. The second was poor defending on from out midfield to allow Stirling of all players to get his head to the ball in the first place. Also Yoshida had a pretty solid game didn't really do a lot wrong defensively Clyne was our weakest allowing players to get round the back of him a few times, having said that he was our only threat coming from the right so can forgive him for that. Wanyama was deserving of MOTM as he was solid and could even pass a ball. I felt much more confident with Forster in net to Boruc. He is an absolute unit and looked to control his defenders well

Agree0 Disagree0

Yoshida is a decent bottom/mid prem cb (which is more than good enough to sit on our bench).

Forster done well but a lot of the stuff he did save was offside anyway the only thing he really needed to save (other than the goals) was sterlings shot. Couldn't do a lot about either goal, they were great finishes by sterling and sturridge (not a patch on clyne's though)

Another thing we learnt was Tadic really does make lallana look shi e

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't know what Saintphil's on about - Forster had a solid game. Blameless for both goals, looked calm and untroubled in the main.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets be honest. Forster had no chance of stopping either goal.

Both were preventable, but that was down to defense and midfield. Clyne got caught out of position for the first and should have tracked Stirling, and Morgan should have won the header after Victors poor headed clearance.

Overal, a very positive performance. Saddened we didn't see Taider. Thought he was looking exceptionally sharp against Bayer, and he'll be a great addition. Victor was Immense, Tadic looked quality, JWP was very good, and thought Isgrove looked like a good option as an impact player.

As for Pelle, for goodness sake, can we please give the guy something to feed on?

Agree0 Disagree0

I was pleasantly surprised with Saints performance, and had Davis put his laces through the ball we would have got all three points, the worrying aspects for me is, where goals are likely to come from.
Though Tadic looked good at times and had Fonte pushed up the same time as Clyne, Sterling would have been offside, Fonte was caught napping in no mans land, when he should have kept Sterling in front of him.
I thought Yoshida did ok considering he was marking Sturridge.

Have we upset the Sun again? Their report today was a wee bit biased, I would say that I have lost respect for them but I never had any to begin with.

If it doesn't involve the top four teams then according to the sun it didn't happen. Awful populist rag

does anyone know where ramirez and boruc where yesterday?

injured? or on there way out?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Boruc had the hump after we bought Forster and didn't go to Liverpool and is most likely to move elsewhere. I have no idea about Ramirez.

Agree0 Disagree0

Boruc isn't upset, it's just some rumour going around on twitter because of a picture he posted. He didn't go because he was injured. Ramirez was ill apparently

Agree0 Disagree0

Again making up rubbish sainty? Boruc and Ramirez are both leaving

i don't get why we haven't tried play Clyne out on the wing he looks much better going forward then defending, any thoughts?

I was impressed after the team gels and if Gardos is as good as Koeman made out we could do as well as we did last season, just need Pelle to settle!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Interesting idea, would of had to be tried and tested in pre-season. His defensive work is generally sound though. I remember someone else mentioning using Bertrand and Clyne as wing backs going forward with Wanyama dropping in just in front of the centre-backs as a sweeper, probably would be a good tactic.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the idea with Clyne is to use him and Bertrand as wing backs, pace going forward allowing our 'wingers' to cut inside more often with an option remaining out wide. Plus with the pace it makes it easier for them to get back and defend which both are very capable of doing. Clyne is a good wing back and I think his defensive talents and pace could be being wasted slightly by making him a proper winger rather than a wing back. Just my opinion though.

£10mill rejected by spurs for Townsend, how much is he worth if spurs want to sell, which they are willing to do

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Imo he's worth £8mil.
maybe, with the inflated price £10-12 but we would have to be sure that we could get him working for the team, as he can be selfish at times. I think there are better, available players out there. Biabiany?

Agree0 Disagree0

No deal with Spurs. They will want Spider as part of any deal. Townsend is so injury prone, we don't want another crock.

We do however want a CB and a winger and RK will do us proud, I am sure.
