According to Sky Sports we're 'heavily linked' with 27 year old River Plate midfielder Leonel Vangioni, but the player has no intentions of leaving the club.

Does anyone think that this yrs pre season friendlies could leave us under cooked for the start of the season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not really, we have 6 games of increasing difficulty with Bournemouth and Brighton both being pretty good Championship sides and our final game against Leverkusen will be a real test before the season kicks off.

Think Saints are being pretty sensible on this. No long haul money making trips to Far East or USA which leave players jaded.
Friendlies should be designed to try new formations, tactics etc and avoid too many injuries, and also integrate new players into the squad.
No problem with being under cooked in friendlies as long as the team is spot on for Anfield.

Bournemouth and Brighton I could take as development of systems and personnel games and reaching fitness. Leverkusen is a good test but the swindon game is a waste and we should have been aiming to play another game of a level similar to an EPL game. Two final games prior to the start of the season against top opposition should be the aim. Saints are notorious slow starters and I think its our pre season that causes this.

It didn't really hurt us last season did it?

I'm sure we'll be fine

Agree0 Disagree0

I'll let you know after the Swindon game on Monday night that I'm going to. Swindon lost 0-2 to Eastleigh in their last game.

I recall last season we weren't slow to start, we had a good start, Christmas run was poor though.
On the subject of pre-season I agree with posts regarding it being a sensible set of fixtures, no silly round the world tournaments and also playing the other (3) English teams helps them to attract much needed revenue also.

Is anyone else aggrieved that we only have 2 TV games up til 1st December?

That's a lot of sky subscription for only 2 matches.

Correct me if I am wrong, but are all clubs supposed to get a minimum of 10 tv matches in a season?

If that's correct then maybe it'll be a great latter part of the season - maybe sky predicting were going to be up there 2nd half of the season and will make or better tv?

We are on TV the first Sunday of the season V Liverpool and then twice in one week the back end of November, away to Villa and home to Man City.

I think really this tells us what Sky thinks Southampton will achieve next season more than anything else. Sky clearly expects us to sit in mid table and not trouble either end of the league so aren't too bothered about televising our games because they won't have major effects on the league outcome.

I don't think there are such restrictions on which games can be shown but it would be nice to have a certain number of games guaranteed. Although I imagine the Eds would know the ins and outs of the TV deals better than I do.

Said it a couple of days ago Jim and like I said I think now SRL/AL and Luke have gone they think we are just a small team on the south coast that will be struggling against relegation again. We have proved everybody wrong in the last couple of years and think we will do it again. You don't get someone like Ronald Koeman unless you have real ambition because he believes in the Saints project and I am sure we will improve quickly under his guidance, do you think he would have gone to the likes of Palace, West Brom, Stoke, Crystal Palace, Burnley etc. I don't think so and therefore I believe before we are 6 weeks into the season I think Sky will re-arrange their schedule and show us well before December and admit they got it wrong.

If you're worried about not being able to watch the non-televised matches it is very easy to find streams online! al jazeera and fox have nearly every match (epl is popular in middle eastern countries and the USA). All it takes is a little search on google to find them

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't think that is the point Aidan it is Sky's total disregard for Saints as a credible force in the Premier League that is annoying.

every team in the premiership should have equal telly time over a season
i don't want to watch utd or liverhampton every other week as I am not interested in what they do or not do
i think a lot of other fans are the same

Most of us will be at the games but I totally see your point.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im glad we're not on much as generally we're awful when on telly and very rarely win

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm sure that if we start as we did last season, we'll get far more games, especially if we are up near the top of the league. That said, we'll do well to maintain our progress from last year

10 games each? That works out a lot of games on sky. I'm not complaining, I watched every saints game on TV last season. Wizziwig :)

As we've got a good amount of quality midfielders to pick from how about trying big Vic at CB. he might just be the signing we are after.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And give away 15 pens a season

Agree0 Disagree0

No more to say dsv apart from we would only have him playing for about 8 games ( red card 3 match ban x 10 = 30 games hmmm. ) Just buy a centre half methinks.
