Pochettino is happy to stay at Southampton, but he is playing hardball with the contract negotiations and has been pushing for a larger budget for transfers as he thinks more investment is needed as well as the need to keep players. He appears to want the money to make signings to show serious intent for next season with a conditional budget (along the lines of x-amount plus however much it costs to sign a particular "critical" target).

Pochettino has been holding it in reserve to leak this story into the press to drum up support to force the owners hands, he has also been using other clubs interest in him to try to push Leibherr and Krueger to agreeing to his terms and IS willing to leave if he is not given his way.

I will attempt to keep you up to date on what I hear and to answer any questions you may have.

{Ed002's Note - Try not to mislead people Phil - I appreciate the fans want him to stay but there is interest in him. Pochettino would never "leak" anything to the press and if he did he would be in breach of contract and would quite possibly be sacked by the club.}

This is not as 'misleading' as you might think Ed. I have a reliable and trustworthy source on this who has been useful for me in the past. (Sorry to go against you on this one but my source is very strong).

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - We should let the club know that Pochettino is intending to breach his contract then - letting down both the club and every single fan. I assume the fans will want him gone if he thinks so little of the club and them. Maybe you could start a hate campaign on Facebook; perhaps daub abuse on the outside of the ground? I had no idea he was such an awful person having been told that he called and politely turned down the approach from another club wishing them well going forward - which really impressed them.}

That seems unnecessarily sarcastic Ed, I'm just following someone else's source of information. I don't mean to be causing you any offence or disrespect. I was just giving information that was passed to me through a source I hold in high regard.

My apologies, if you feel that strongly about this post then please by all means remove it. I had not intended to wind you up at all I was merely passing on what was told to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I feel strongly about gross misconduct and manager's who plot to do what you say Pochottino is planning on doing. It is clearly a kick in the balls for the club and fans by him. I don't ever recall meeting him but recently I was told, by the person who took the offer to him from another club, that she thought he was an absolute gentleman over it by calling up as he did.}

Bar the leaking of the press suggestion, surely what SaintPhil is saying about Pochettino wanting a larger budget is realistic of what the situation may be in terms of negotiations currently with the club? Would that not be true Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am appalled by what he is suggesting.}

Hope you guys show this much passion in the bedroom =P

This story makes less and less sense the more I read it. It sounds like a layman's understanding of how football works. I think you've been had Phil.

Someone's been playing too much football manager

Ok I just want to sort this out. nobody is going to leave, the players are all really close and can see! Where the club is going! Also why would we be losing half are god damn team I mean you have to be deluded to believe that? Alright maybe one or two players will leave but not are whole team I mean cmon? What team in history has had a fire sale that serious when in a good postion in the premier league. the 27 million debt, can be payed off with the 79.6 million we got I fullt expect poch to stay when I new plan is put in place that is all he is waiting for like he said! And the club our club people if you hadntbalready forgot has come out and said no players that poch wants to keep will be sold this transfer window, LR said this for crying out loud! Do you really expect a mass exodus of players? I mean why would lallana get us to prem then say "id like to be next le tiss" and leave, lovren one season then leaves? Even though he has first tean football? Cork, spider, jayrod, shaw, chambers, that's the corr of our the core of our team my guess is you all need to realise saints have said what they need to and ED you don't sound like a saints fan sorry just saying, we spent every year 30 million plus its not out of the question for it to happen. And its not unlikely that poch has been offered a new contract. All these papers talking have literally no proof or written evidence or statement that says poch wants to leave or is going to leave all they have is that he has the same agent as gareth bale? Big whoop? Many footballers will have him aa an agent? Does that mean they are all joining spurs? And another thing why on earth would he join a club who continually sack mangers? And give up his safe spot at southampton because we are a so called smaller club. us fans have been arguing tgat we can get top six now your in panick mode and saying we are small. c'mon let's be honest nobody will go and i'm god damn sure of it sorry its so long but its getting stupid now

Lol.
Calm down Logical Saint and take a breath.

My belief is similar you yours. I have however heard that the Poch's contract is done in principle.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree LogicalSaints, I'm getting annoyed with it too! I agree though and posted something similar recently and I hope that's true St Christopher, would be a massive relief!

Agree0 Disagree0

Whilst I agree with the sentiment I don't think it's as simple as that Logical. I've said repeatedly there is no precedent of a 'firesale' at a club that is not in relegation and do not believe it will occur here. The finances do not work quite as simply as you have put here. That being said I do think we are in a deceptively strong position financially as we have relative financial independence and the capacity to be sustainable in the very near future. Some players will go, perhaps two at a stretch. If I were a betting man I'd put my money on Shaw and Schneiderlin to leave. Much depends on the position of the manager. Not so much Pochettino but what it signifies; if Poch leaves it was because of a lack of ambition from the club, the players will know this and that will go a long way to determining their desire to stay at the club. If Poch stays then a manager who they love playing under and a clear intent to push on from our current position is shown, this will help push those players who were on the fence back onto the Southampton side.

It's not a case of Poch v no Poch. It's just a question of 'so what next?' Whether or not Poch stays is just the shape that answer will come in.

Even if we lose some of our key players our youth team or just young players in general are fantastic, chambers would make a good replacemet for luke, Gallagher may improve well in the future and people like sims and hesketh could eventually be our key players. As far as transfers are rumoured I unfortunately think lallana to liverpool is basically a done deal, hoping shaw will stay for a few more seasons but that too is not certain. Rafa Silva, caulker and ings are in my opinion the most likely transfers to us. Finally I'm pretty sure mp is leaving

Believable0 Unbelievable0

How would an up and coming right back (who previously has played in midfield) be a good replacement for Luke (our left back)? Don't get me wrong, he is already a fantastic player, but if Shaw leaves we would need a left back as a replacement. Matty Targett would be his eventual successor, but it may be a gamble this year. Particularly if we want to progress again this year.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't want to lose Luke, certainly not before the World cup as his value can only rise. However, I can see that his sale would be good business, at the right price, for the club.
As regards to life after Luke:If Chambers has potential other than as a Right back it is as a central defender. Targett is of course the obvious replacement for Luke. I believe if he is good enough he's ready enough (same as Luke was)
The other player i'm resigned to lose is Louvren as I believe his class would be a classic fit for any of the best Twenty teams in the Champions League. I therfore exp[ect a long queuee of suitors for his services this summer.
As regards Adz I am still hoping he will realise that he will not have a team built around him anywhere else in the higher echelons of the Premiership other than with us. He has genuine potential to be legendary here in the classic mould of loyalty in the footsteps of the holy trinity. Ted Bates, Terry Paine and Matt le Tissier
Also hoping against hope that MP comes to his senses and rejects Spurs. I know he is destined for greater things but I firmly believe that he will just become another victim of the Levy excuse conveyer belt if he goes there

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - You need to register.}

You people need to hit the tranquilizers. Nobody has left, the owner and management have said three times no one will be sold this summer. Contrary to what appears to be most Saints fans belief no one can force the club to sell a player. The only reason we used to do it was money we were a small club constantly scratching for cash with a tiny stadium. This is no longer the case far too many of you need to upgrade their thinking but I have a feeling it will take a summer of no sales to get you to do that. Why not focus on who we might be bringing in for a change.
