ok all saints fans, I too shocked and angry at Adkins' dismissal, but we have to give our new manager a chance, he did well with espanyol, all I'm saying is everyone has to be supportive against Everton, NO BOOING because this will effect the players performance and it's not there fault Adkins got the sack, and you never know it may turn out to be a great decision like appointing Pardew at Newcastle and Mancini at City even though their current managers didn't deserve the sack.

Wave white hankies..why..? we are english not spanish..Cortese is Italian and the new manager is from Argentina..sounds a stupid idea to me. Yes lets sing for Adkins at the kick off but then we need to concentrate on getting behind the team as the most important thing on Monday is the three ponits we need.

Believable9 Unbelievable1

I too was quite surprised to hear that Adkins had been replaced, this was simply the timing as there seemed to be no rumblings for a month or two. In all honesty though he was paid to do a job and that was to get the club to the premiership, when in the premiership he was slightly out of his depth. If one listened to what Corteze had been stating about the clubs future Adkins was not part of that. I thought that he would be thanked at the end of last season and relinquished from his post. However I expect he was unable to recruit the replacement he wanted. I didn't hear everyone get sentimental when Dean Hammond was moved down the road to Brighton. The Premiership is all about money and striving for success. Lambert has done an excellent job but most of you would accept him being replaced by Messi tomorrow!

I think it looks like the lads are warming quite well to the new manager. The training today (based on pictures and video evidence anyway) seemed to have players in an upbeat mode with their new boss, they seem quite happy and to be working just as hard. Hopefully this effort will come good with 3 points on Monday.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

Mmm, like any news that is reported, it is edited and selected, and may therefore not be an accurate representation of the WHOLE session, or however may.
The point I'm getting at is don't be so naive, just because you see lots of smiling faces. Of course they will smile and get on with the manager, they want selection.
That said I'm sure the players are professional enough to keep focused on the new expectations coming from the manager. I hope Saints continue to develop and grow

Agree3 Disagree0

Well the fact they are still getting on with business and not appearing to be dysfunctional is a good start. I mean no disputes between staff and players have yet emerged. The new manager is also looking hands on and actually getting involved.

Finally the endless arguments with Celtic fans may come to an end.

Especially that "person" Celtic Bhoy. He needs to see a shrink pretty quick! {Ed001's Note - they are all busy bitching about Norwich now anyway. The Norwich site has been awash with them all day!}

I told him a month ago - if Hooper was going anywhere it would be Norwich - but he just seemed to like to come back for more Uckin Knutter

if you don't want to support the team then stay away, and leave the supporting to real fans.
Nigel was a fantastic manager & seemed like a nice guy, but its a new era now, give the new manager a chance.

would love saints to be back playing in our propper red and white strip kit next season! ....is there anything us fans can do to get us back into our propper colours ??

Believable7 Unbelievable2

Cortese will probably change our strip to blue

Agree2 Disagree8

I don't think we have any control over it. Just imagine this was a one off strip they thought they could sell in huge volume to commemorate regaining a spot in the Premiership so they made it look different for specifically the purpose of people not being able to pass off other seasons shirts with this one. Imagine it was just to boost sales for the season.

Finally we had a solid manager, I loved Nigel, but we need to move on this manager plays passing, attacking, football, just like Nigel. Although, we will never forget him we need to move on and get behind the team and back us to stay in the premier league - where we belong.

As shocked as I was yesterday to see Adkins on his way I was more shocked at the reaction of our football fans, yes he is a great loss but we need to back our board and back Pochettino. The way we have said "I hope we go down" is just shocking. NC knows his stuff and I'm right behind him.
"who needs mouriniho, we have Pochettino" COYR

Benjie

Believable12 Unbelievable1

I don't think anyone of our fans wants us to go down, I would hope not anyway. I think it is these people who come on our site posing as saints fans. The people who are true saints fans will continue to back the team whether or not they agree with the board.

Agree8 Disagree0

It's not our fans saying that, it's every non southampton fan wanting us down

You may be right but either way we need to get right behind Pochettino

Having read what Pochettino has said so far I am worried that established first team players will be dropped and the under 21 squad will be used, ok we all know that youth is the key in many instances but we need players that will not buckle under adversity as was recently shown by coming back from two nil down at Chelsea. will Lambert be dropped I sort of get a nasty feeling he will. The new manager reckons he likes a fast paced attacking style with lots of pressing, sounds good in theory lets see it in practice. Our most successful manager ever has been knifed in the back and replaced by somebody who had mediocre success in spain ! So Mr Cortese you have ostracised us from the written press and media you have changed our club strip so as to become unrecognisable as a saints kit. Our greatest hero Le'god feels uncomfortable and unwelcome at St Marys so how much more do you wish to twist this club into your vision of what you want ? After all were you not Markus Liebherr's chairman and would he want you running the club in quite this fashion ?

Believable2 Unbelievable14

Biggest load of twaddle I have seen for a long time, and I suspect I know where it has come from! If you do not want to support the club, suggest you should find another club.
You always find out who are true supporters in difficult times, and you have just failed that test.

Saint Martin

Agree6 Disagree2

Well saint martin you have no idea where it has come from and you have not given any valid counter argument to what I have said. Can you illiterate anything other than your sheep like mutterings of your not a real fan ? I stood in the archers road end in the rain sleet and freezing weather, I watched keegan and channon grace are club, I was their when letiss made his debut and watched him score the last goal at the dell. I drank in the red lion with Danny Wallace and had dinner with the whole team for my 21st birthday, Razor ruddock took me into the players bar at the dell and I sat in the directors box, So if you think you are more of a fan then me then come on smart boy lets see you come up with some counter arguments other than baa baa. Being a fan does not mean blind obedience and and unquestioning subservience, if we do not question those in control then we have no brains and deserve all that ensues, I remember Rupert Lowe and I am sure that you blindly followed him into the abyss. So grow up use the brain that god gave you and allow yourself to think once in awhile. Please feel free to reply in your oh so eloquent manner baabaa

Agree2 Disagree4

What a vindictive child!

Agree2 Disagree0

Aha somebody needs to calm down, the new manager sounds like he's quite a hot managerial prospect, he may actually be good, offcourse I disagree with the decision but it doesn't we shouldn't support our team and assume we're gunna get instant relegation, I think we have a bright future ahead and that we need to give the players a lot of support on monday and get a big 3 points as it could kick start his career at saints

come on boys! COYR!

Agree3 Disagree0

He understands the value of youth but he's not mental! I imagine he will give the youth who earn a chance to play a chance to play and those who don't earn it and show their stuff won't be given the opportunities. I imagine it means he will be supporting our many youngsters growing in footballing terms and will keep using the older players to support.

At Espanyol the situation was different for him. He had to bring in the youth talent and nurture them as he had nobody else after their financial mini-meltdown. He understands youth has value but he does not take it to silly extremes. I think his squad on Monday will not be too dissimilar to a lot of Adkins' squads. I expect we'll still see Shaw, Spiderman, Cork, Ramirez, Lambert, Clyne, Puncheon and possibly Boruc play. He will have checked our main team to find the best players and won't just pick on an age basis. We may see one or two changes but I imagine the side will remain fairly similar.

I know however, we have a slight cause for concern in the fact Spanish speaking players may get favouritism. I mean I wouldn't be too surprised to see Gazzaniga return to goal or at least the bench. Personally I think Gazza is a great keeper but I know loads of people disagree on that one.

Agree1 Disagree0

Well, I don't think I need to give a valid arguement to that nonsense-other than the score is 12-0 against you!
And just a point of fact-I was standing on the terraces at the Dell watching Paine and Sydenham and have never, since then, followed the club blindly. But, I do not judge a manager before he has even managed his first match. I think you should read the statement Markus Liebherr made about Mr. Cortese when they saved the club, but then you obviously have your own agenda and would not be interested in that.

Saint Martin

Agree1 Disagree1

Saint Martin, 12-0 only represents the fact that most fans allow emotion to cloud their judgement, I would love to know what you and the other twelve actualy disagree with, at no point have I slated the new manager only commented on the fact that our most sucessful manager of all time in win percentage was sacked for no good reason. Le'tiss has stated publicly of his feeling unwelcome at st marys due to Cortese being upset at his siding with another bid for the club. Cortese has and its a fact alienated us from the press or do you not recall the sun refering to us as that south coast club for about three months ? So come on saint martin and all you others bring it on but do so by actually countering my statements, as to the guy who said I was a vindictive child, grow up and join in rather than making statements about people you have never met. So if you have been going to see saints since 1957 you must know the way this club was regarded amongst the rest of the football community or do you disagree with such legends as Lawrie mac' who said it was disgraceful and the lowest moment that he could recall in saints history over Adkins sacking, please re read what I first wrote and let me know exactly what so irritated you ?

Agree0 Disagree0

Dear Mr Archers Road whinger, your booing and non-singing used to annoy me from the Milton Road end as well. Well said, again, Saint Martin. Btw Mr Archers Road, the correct word is articulate not illiterate.
Saint Gazza

Agree0 Disagree0

Mr Archers Road : Pochettino saying that he agrees with NA about bringing forward our youngsters in no way implies we will be playing our U21's. Lambert dropped? Do you mean he will be on bench again? What's wrong with the type of football Pochettino says he likes? NA wasn't our most successful mgr of all time in win % terms. It was some bloke even older than us plus NA's record is largely based on league 1 & 2 status in old money. NC's vision is Champions league - problem? NA was sacked 'cos he didn't achieve his boss's targets. You can argue they were too demanding but that's life in the 21st century. Really couldn't give a damn what the Sun calls us.Really bad choice of example on your part. I was watching Paine and Sydenham also but in about 1963. We were, and largely still are, regarded by the football community as that little club on the South Coast who occasionally punch above their own weight. NC is determined to change that. Yes, I disagree with Lawrie Mac. The lowest moment, by a million miles, was thinking 'Christ, who am I going to support now?!' Thankfully, some bloke called Cortese told Marcus to 'buy' us.
Saint Gazza

Well said, Saint Gazza. You have saved me a lot of time!

puncheon to me has been fantastic this season what worries me is he has played under a lot of managers and not performed to his best ability.
Adkins to his credit turned the player around and got him him playing some great stuff and a big team player working a nice partnership with clyne on the right side but will he play under the new gaffer ???
Adkins is a legend we can't let all his hard work and effort go down the tubes
so get behind the team monday

Really enjoying seeing "rumours" from the faux-Saints fans concerning the expectant transfer of Rickie Lambert up north, the possibility Shaw might now go to Chelsea, or Lallana giving up the captain's armband for his boyhood club to go play somewhere else. It's the most fickle rumours ever. As true Saints fans we know these players are in the heart of our team and Cortese; however bad people might think he is, will not let them leave. Granted, there might be a few fringe players to depart over the next two weeks and yes, puncheon might leave considering his past stance with the club and the fact there has yet to be a renewing of his contract. so if Cortese is as ruthless as people think he is then perhaps he will be sold because of that, now Adkins is out of the picture. But I personally don't think he will do so. Everyone needs to get behind the team, be the 12th man and raise the roof on Monday when the team do the Adkins-esque pre-match huddle. COYR

As much as I was apauled by mr cortese's decision to sack Adkins, like the majority of saints fans, we have to accept that this is the nature of football in the 21st century! Fans have no say on the running of a football club. Southampton is mr cortese's "project" is to get saints to the highest heights and we all have to admit that so far it's working. We all questioned his decision to sack Alan pardew to bring in an unknown manager in Nigel but it worked. It's the same situation today. If we all try and put this whole fiasco aside and look at what we have got now in pochettino, he is actually a young manager that is held in high regard in Spanish football. All Be it he can't speak a word of English! If we fill st Mary's with negativity we will go down. Lets get behind them and support the team! COYR!

Believable5 Unbelievable0

Agree with your post and the comments you make. I think you raise an interesting point about the fans having a say. Fans make the football clubs - no footballer or chairman wants to see their team playing to an empty stadium. Perhaps football clubs and their chairmen should start considering consultations with fans of the clubs, football should be about unity not separation.

Saints owe everything, yes everything to NC. It was he who persuaded ML to rescue us. He has been at the helm since the takeover and, in my opinion, has not put a foot wrong so far.
I liked NA as a manager and a man BUT it is clear that NC is no fool and he will have thought this through.
We need 18 points to stay up ( maybe fewer) from 16 games. True Saints fans will support the club and be grateful that we have a business man with real money backing our club. NC is not a man of straw like so many 'owners' at many other clubs I can think of.
Good luck to NA. saints have been a great springboard for him and I really hope he goes on to have a great career as a manager.

Right now lets get the facts right.Forget Le Tissier, yes a great player but his stupid pinnacle group nearly cost us our club. The only real Saints legends are Ted Bates and Markus Liebherr. And the simple reason is that they both brought stability and saviour to our great club. They never took money from the club, they put it in.Yes sad for NA but time to move on.And as for these stupid protests well they need to grow up.Mr PERRY MCMILLAN needs to take a long hard look at himself he is acting more like SPIKE MILLIGAN.
NICOLA CORTESE we trust COYR.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

Very well said, mate. I think that NA is a great bloke and manager, but you are right about Markus (and Ted.) NC is the one who is trying to fulfil MLs vision and he is taking decisions that he feels will do this. That's what he is paid for, not to court popularity There are too many persons around who think football should be run as it was 40 years ago, but still want to compete with clubs like Man. Utd. Those times have changed, the successful clubs are world brands and need to be run as such.

We know Mr. McMillans view of NC and I suppose this is another chance for him to have a dig, but he doesn't speak for me, and I suspect, for very few supporters.

Get behind the team on Monday.

Rumour buzzing that a reason for Cortese bringing in the new manager is to try to pull bigger players to the club. Personally think that would be a stupid reason but hey what sense does any of this make. Rumour is that this is how he has tried to attract players like Coutinho and Astori by assuring them a bigger name manager. Have to say this is a pork excuse if true.
