Just read that more talks have taken place between Saints and Liverpool! This time with a view to bringing Lucas Leiva to St Mary. I for one think he is quite under rated and would be a good signing.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We don't need another cm though as we have easily enough if no more players are sold

A few player who haven't been mentioned that much who I reckon would be good signing:

Adam Johnson
Connor Wichham
Nathan Dyer
Jack Rodwell
Scott Sinclair
Saido Berahino
Garry Hooper
James Tompkins

all in positions we need and are IMO underated Brittish players, not saying to sign all of them, but think whilst rebuilding it is important to have an English core to our team, with a mix of marque signings, such as Rojo. A few of them would be expensive obviously as it's the classic premium for English players, but there are a few who wouldn't be too bad, I still think Forster would be a great keeper for us,

Believable0 Unbelievable0

There are some names on that list that are a waste of space!apart from getting the cb sorted out, and that has to be top priority, we really need some pace up front. Our squad doesn't look too bad, just some obvious gaps. Forster or Marshall would be good. wouldn't it be good if Spider got his act together. I am certain Roko will get this sorted. Looking forward to the new season now, Chairman, s interview was just what was needed. well done!

Agree0 Disagree0

Who do you reckon's a waste of space then? I think all could do well with us, I guess you mean Hooper as one of them

Agree0 Disagree0

Rodwell, Sinclair and Hooper!

I don't think most saints fans expected it to be honest. This should have been a season to build and push on from what we did last year, not do a complete rebuild job. But we don't want or need players that don't want to be here. We still have some great youngsters and with a few good additions I think we will be ok. Just a word on Everton, Lukaku a great signing hope you boys finish above Liverpool this season!

Yes, let's be positive. We have a new manager who will want the team to play his way and will have a lot of opportunity in terms of personnel to allow that to happen. (So Chambers goes-was he going to be significant in RK plans? Don't think so. Good player but that doesn't mean he can play as RK prefers-look at Shaw and Man. Utd for proof that is not unusual.)
This is a rare opportunity in football where existing "cliques" can often disrupt such plans (watch out for a repeat of this also at Man. Utd. this season, as last.)

I'm sure it will not be a smooth ride, but I think we will prove a few people wrong this season(and would love it to be so.)

Noones even mentioned the fifa fairplay, which means that teams like us can't spwnd huge money on wages.

Very true. Cortese was one of the few chairmen who was against this notion because of that reason amongst others. Until we start playing in Europe (i.e. getting the commercial / sponsorship backing that comes with that) the way Saints will grow as a business is to get players in cheaply and sell them on with the academy products for large margins. As we grow we can accommodate the higher wages demanded, but it is going to be slow and painful for fans to see players become our stars and then move on to the "bigger" teams.

Everton fan here lads, genuine post here, feel really really sorry for you guys, your teams been destroyed and your managers been poached. I thought Saints were playing fantastic football last season and I've never seen anything like the mass exodus that's happened to your team this summer in all my life. It should be illegal it's such a shame . What's going on boys? What's the feelings your end? Eds, you can leave this bit in or delete it but this is a genuine post not here to mock or snigger at all. Thanks

Excellent business in the main. Ricky was getting old and nobody is going to whinge at his last chance. Shaw wasn't worth the amount paid for him. Yet. Lovren is the biggest annoyance. His attitude was disgusting. I think we are all pi55ed at the attitudes of some who acted like stroppy kids to get the move.
Two good potential signings. We just want more in asap. Pre season building is not going to happen and a lot of worry about our ability to gel in time.
However. The management brothers have massive pedigree. Will be an interesting season

Financial constraints meaning readjustment for sustainable business objectives. Therefore players cannot be offered bigger wage packets, so they looked for moves where they are on offer. Since we did not need to sell them though, we received double up to quadruple their worth. Koeman gets a clean slate with the players that want to stay plus any signings he wishes to use to build a team that is his own. This could go on for years given FFP; until we are in a position where we are in a European spot and start receiving the benefits of that. It could be a roller-coaster of a ride for the next few seasons but this happens to teams who do well but are not in the top positions. However, seeing how Koeman has done well with the team in pre-season, despite the background issues, and with the promise of further signings I'm waiting to see how we perform against Bayer 04 Leverkusen to really see how we will do this season.

paddock 1973
thanks for your concern
although we have had a bad time I personally think good times are not far away
glad pochettino has gone as he had no plan b
some opf the players that left lallana and lovren are just money grabbers as people will see this season
lallana is not that good but becoming an international player thought he is better than he really is he is just a one trick pony
lovren really peed the fans off with his comments about his head already at liverpool so glad he has gone as well but saints held out and got good money for both
lambert and shaw left with a lot more dignity and hope they do well
so we have got ourselves a very good manager in now who will do the business over a period of time
but it should be a warning to other clubs the so called bigger clubs do not care about other teams
but hope one day their bubble bursts
hope everton have a good season as I think your manager martinez is a brilliant manager and can break the so called big boys up
forestsaint

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers paddock sadly I think a lot of it has come from players getting massive ego's except lambert and chambers, the sky super 6 teams can poach who they want while ffp is in place only ones who cane offer massive wages to sit on huge bench, think it was designed for that purpose so the apple cart doesn't get upset but I am personally hoping u guys knock it over this yr, yeah we lost some talent but it's not as bad as media makes out, trust in koeman to ween out the bad apples who been upsetting the squad and couple signings in an kick on again, maybe a bit of consolidation season but I think we will be fine with money to spend in jam if we need to and next summer

Agree0 Disagree0

Good, I 'm glad to see you are all keeping positive. The way you've been pillaged this year has slmost been a horror show, almost like a pride of lions just taking that they want from you, it's not been nice to watch as a fan of football forgetting who I support. For what it's worth, you guys know a lot better but I think Lallana will be found out at Liverpool I think he's massively overrated and you picked Liverpools pockets. Loversn? He's a s***house, for a professional footballer to disrespect his club like that you are best rid of him. Again you know better, I think United got a player in Shaw, I think he's fantastic but we know what it's like to lose a young prodigy to United in Rooney. Anyway, chin up lads, I hope you get a few in and have a good consolidation season. It probably will take a bit of time to gel players together but you have a good manager in Koemen and I wish you all the best for next season. I hope you break top 6 (behind us obviously) and wipe all the mercenaries eyes. I'll honestly be rooting for you next season

Come on saints sign up wickham,

21, strong, an eye for goal, huge potential and available for around £5mil.

Would be ideal (plus he is English which I always see as a plus!)

Hopefully we can make the signing of Rojo soon! He was primarily used as a CB last year, yet everyone thinks he's mainly a LB because he played there in the world cup, if you want proof look at the starting 11's for Sporting last year, he's mainly used on the left side of CB, so would be perfect for us, as for goal keeper I hope a deal for Forster can be wrapped up soon and for the attacking player I'd love Redmond to sign or maybe someone like Berahino would be great! Koeman all but confirmed the Saphir Taider will be coming in on loan, which is a bit of weird one as we have a lot of CM's now Shneiderlin is being forced to stay, but he's a good player none the less, I'm excited for this reported tripple signing! COYR!!

St Sam, think you are pretty close to what we need/might happen. Might also see another striker and a second CB although I don't expect RK to go too mad, as he will want to leave some ability to deal in January if circumstances dictate.

hearing the latest bid for rojo been rejected
they want the asking price of 16 million
forestsaint

Agree0 Disagree0

I hope it happens, also think the loans are good for us as it will temporarily add depth and we then do not have to worry about them being unsuccessfull signings as they won't be contracted to the club, I think Rojo will be a marque signing for us, hope we do pay the £16m just to break the Osvaldo transfer record as I don't really want the most expesive player in our history to be someone who scored 3 in 15 games and headbutted one of our players.

Morning Saints fans. Just been reading that Ronald has had a word with Morgan about his personter account nonsense. He was quoted as saying that Morgan will definitely be playing against Bayer Leverkeusen and v Liverpool. Does anyone else believe the tide has started to turn back in our favour? Tadic looked quality last night. Rojo would be a great signing if the rumours are true. Does anyone have any suggestions, other than Fonte for captain. Or do you think we'll sign a new captain before the start of the season?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I hear we have cooled our interest in Rojo as he was always being considered for LB rather than left sided CB. Fonte or Davis for captain unless Vlarr is brought in maybe - but that would be a but of a snub to our two players. I wanted Spider as captain until this week! Think Corky would be good but he obviously isn't going to get the game time again as last night shows. Shame - hope he doesn't go anywhere.

What about going for Joel Campbell Arsenal clearly don't fancy him. Strong pacey good experienced player and still young. Saints could give him a good home

Think we might have mentioned him when negotiating Chambers sale, so probably nothing doing.

As a Saints fan, I do not appreciate this article stirring up the situation even more. In terms of pre-season performances we are top of the table out of all the premier league teams. Other signings are going to come in. Koeman is an honest and to-the-point manager and is getting the team to work very well together despite the circumstances. We don't need any more of this stirring.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ignore it. It's regurgitated waffle and factually incorrect in places. Ben Smith hasn't had a good word for Southampton Football Club since Cortese left.

Agree0 Disagree0

'we are top of the league in pre-season against other premiership teams '

Another deluded Spurs fan. What a ridiculous statement that is.

By all accounts Taider is 'thinking' about it - the loan move / Osvaldo swap to Saints, so we are now enquiring about Schelotto.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't want Schelotto, no better than what we currently have and by all accounts, although a loyal player, he's not that good anyway.

Yes I've heard the same nice guy but a very average player! but would give us a bit more depth!

Hes too good for saints or newcastle, he's playing champions league football with dortmund why would he come to saints?, same applies to hernandez, he has interest from far larger clubs.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

So did Ramirez, Lovren, Clyne and a whole host of others, maybe they'd prefer to be playing every week than to be sat on the bench?

Go for Joel Campbell of arsenal instead

Ok being that we seem to linked with about 30 players at the moment, most tenuously i'll add my personal ideal signing into the mix

Thomas Vermaelan
Played under RK at Ajax
70k a week at a stretch we could afford
Straight in as club captain
Fee immaterial as we have a little cash to invest

Sounds a bit like Tadic has had a stormer based on saints twitter coverage

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just seen the highlights. Tadic scored a great goal. JWP looked superb but on the highlights alone (all 5 mins lol) Clyne got my man of the match. He was going passed defenders and pinging great balls into the box.

Who was wearing 17 tonight? looked like some real pace near the end of the highlights.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I didn't see a 17 in the highlights. What position was he playing?

Agree0 Disagree0

It was Lloyd Isgrove.

Agree0 Disagree0

Isgrove is quick, his attitude and commitment are excellent. I have doubts about his overall quality on the ball, but he's done himself no harm this pre-season.

Koeman has name-checked "Izzy" a few times in post-match interviews. Seems like he rates him.

Koeman stated in his post-match interview that he's hoping to complete 2-3 signings by the end of the weekend, any ideas who they could be? I'm assuming rojo is one but not sure on the other 1-2?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Not sure if the Rojo deal will go through considering we just got Bertrand, hopefully we do and use him as a cb and to cover the left at times. I'm hoping Forster gets signed this week imo I think we could be stronger in the goalkeeping department. Not to sure who the 3rd will be.
