Roma are at the front of the queue for Clasie, unfortunately. If they can stump up the transfer fee, with Champions League on the table, I don't think Saints will be able to compete with that.

Like typical saints it will be left till last minute when we realise the squad isn't good enough and 3 or 4 have moved on we will be forced to panic buy ie like Long, you would like to think that they've known Morgan was going to leave for a year, plenty of time for this 'black box' to identify targets

What makes you think they haven't identified targets and are in the process of contacting clubs?
You have to remember most players and agents are on holiday leave now, with u21 teams heading to the championships.

Yes, as Romsaint says, I'm sure Saints are all over the recruitment process, which will have been in the planning for months. No news doesn't mean nothing's happening. Don't panic. Yet.

But they obviously need to know one way or the other about Schneiderlin, Clyne and Alderweireld as soon as possible in order to set the ball in motion on their potential replacements.

Reports today that Chelsea are moving on Alderweireld and that Saints did take up their option to sign him permanently from Atletico, but they in turn exercised their option to pay £1.5m to turn it down. What a strange agreement that was, all round.

This transfer window is more complicated than last year. Despite the fact there was clearly no planning involved with last summer's departures, this time there will have been but it comes down to if and when bids are received for Schneiderlin or Clyne, and likewise, if Atletico Madrid are willing to let us negotiate a deal for Toby, and one that is affordable.

So assuming the majority of our transfer budget will be based around sales first, we cannot start any negotiations with a target until those sales have happened.

I would expect the club will know within two weeks whether there's any chance for a deal with Toby, likewise whether Clyne is re-signing or moving on. However Schneiderlin may well be a long drawn out affair as there's a multitude of central midfielders likely to be on the market this summer, and Schneiderlin might not be anyone's number one choice despite what the media suggests.

Jesus Christ everyone knows saints do things on the quiet, how many of our signings in the last 5 years have you known about ahead of time?

As has been said, no news doesn't = no contact. Much the same as how paper rumours don't = deal done. Clubs may make offers before us, they may discuss terms with players before us but that's no guarantee they'll sign for them. Real life isn't like Fifa/football manager where players sign for the first team that has an offer accepted

A note of sanity at last, SaintySaintSaint!

The season is finished, the media are still trying to sell speculation around football. Agents are desperate to inflate their income. Saints will be busy behind the scenes but will do all they can NOT to feed the parasites. So, until info. is on the OWS just assume 99% is baseless drivel. If you can't believe that, suggest you look at the Man. Utd. site to see how they are suddenly "experts" re. Morgan, and how they have absorbed such drivel.

An immensely successful season . Now a decision needs to be made.
Do we aim for a top 6 position next season or not?

If we do we need the following

1 The maximum amount we can get for any player sale eg Spider at least £25 million.

2 A season long loan for a top goalkeeper as Forster will need plenty of time to recover

3 A right back to cover for Clyne IF he leaves

4 A gritty attacking mid field player who can control the game.

5 Support for Pelle up front

6 An attacking winger who can get in the box and can cross a ball

We have a great management team and a great set up.

Ambition will bring success and PROFIT which every owner requires.

We are on the map. We need to stay there.

re: 3. They need a right back to cover Clyne even IF he stays - TWO new right backs if he leaves.

Don't forget, Alderweireld is the back up RB. And it's not looking like he's going to be a Saint next season.

Let's say Morgan and Clyne are sold, Alderweield doesn't stay on (I think most of us would agree that's pretty likely) - Saints need, minimum:

First choice goalkeeper.

A starting right back.

A starting centre back.

A starting central midfielder.

That's four key players needed just to break even, without getting started on adding to the squad depth, which probably needs an understudy at RB, an creative midfielder and a wide attacker (or two).

I know they want a quiet summer and Les Reed has played down the chances of them having another large turnover of players, but there's no getting away from the fact that they're going to have to be busy again if they're going to get in the required seven or eight transfers.
