Now the transfer window is closed how do Saints fans feel about it?

Personally I am pleased that a stance has been made against anyone else leaving. What we have is a squad caple of holding their own in the PL and the club keeping financially viable.

We have cover in most positions but I am a bit concerned that too much is being asked of Pelle. What if he gets injured?

What of the midfield? If our injuries improve then we should be OK. Wanyama can decide his future is with SFC or he can be left to rot. Pleased ROKO has proven that he can be tough with want aways.

Now is the time to stop criticism and get behind our team. We have and will not do a Pompey. We will survive and do well.

I don't think it's survival what fans want though is it?

It's progression but I definitely agree with rest of your post.

I'm interested to see how Victor responds now he's been told to put up and shut up - we need to be more assertive with players pushing for moves, seems to be coming more common place, impressed with Everton's stance and WBA over player requests to move on. Victor needs to win the trust of the club, fans and team mates now.

Does anyone think there may be an agreement, a la spider, if he keeps his head down then we can review at the end of the season?

Just happy no one sold let's move on now

Apparently Spurs offer was below what we paid so we wouldn't have sold anyway. Ed's do you know what the offer was?

{Ed002's Note - I don't Mikey.}

Why are people going on about relegation? Or survival? To suggest we are not progressing anymore based on 6 competitive games is as pathetic as Tottenham's Wanyama bid. Kop on.

I don't think a single signing has improved the starting XI one iota, while three quality players have left. The first team is weaker than last season's.

The filler that has been added to the squad looks to have given us reasonable depth in terms of bodies if not proven quality, but overall it's pretty fanciful to speculate that we can progress having strengthened our nearest rivals by selling them our best players, weakening our own team in the process.

Weirder things have happened, of course, but I think a 12th-14th finish is a more realistic outcome than top 6-7.

Just a bit curious who Reed/RoKo think is going to play up front for us if Pelle has another dip in form like last year or god forbid gets injured. Like the Van Dijk signing but to me the reason we finished 7th last year not 4/5th was our complete lack of options when Pelle wasn't playing as well as he did at the start of the year. If we fall down the table for the same reason this year that, to me, is unacceptable.

When we're firing like we were against Norwich we'll be fine but in general I think we've left ourselves short of a difference maker going forward. Can't understand why Charlie Austin for example isn't a Saint.

Feel free to tell me you disagree but I'm feeling frustrated by it all today

I agree with you a little but we've bought in another striker in juanmi and have that new signing called Jrod up our sleeves too compared to last year.
It'll take until the New year before he starts hitting form again but I'm confident he will come good.

We've got J-Rod, Juanmi & Long who can play up top as well as Mane who could probably do a decent job there. A change in tactics, playing a quick striker instead of a big one, would be more fruitful against teams who've worked out how and have set up to play against Pelle imo. Austin would've brought little to nothing to this team

I agree, kind of frustrated we knew it would only be vvd but hoped might pull something else out mainly creative cm who can get us 10 goals, I want security but I want progression is that to much to ask??

Long time reader, first time poster. Been watching the close of the window today and I hope RK can mold VVD into a solid replacement for Alderwield.

But what really concerns me more is the way players all over the league seem to have no loyalty to their contract or club. I can't believe Berahino just tweeted he will never play for WBA again. This is just happening more and more with Wanyama this year and Lallana, Shaw and Schneiderlin last year for Saints alone.

I am happy we put our foot down this year but this can't go on, though I know it will. I am sure we will be seeing the same thing with Mane, Wanyama and others next year.

Notice from the Berahino tweet that levy is involved again
just glad to see levy and spuds been bitten on the ass today
Also well done WBA forsticking to their guns

It works both ways.
First you are saying you are happy about vvd and then talking about loyalty
None of our players we brought in were loyal.
It's business pure and simple.

If this rumour of £20 million plus Lamela on loan is true about Wanyama would you take it . Seems to me a bit like the attitude of Lallana towards the club and in that case to me get shot of him . We don't want players that don't want to be here . Koeman wouldn't lose face in my eyes and seems a good deal to be honest, Vic is not that good and is replaceable .

Love the way Virgil states on the official Saints site that this is the perfect STEP for him. Got to give it to the lad. already showing signs of commitment. Let's see where he is next summer.

Lost in translation I am afraid. That's why he's signed a 5 year contract He is here to stay and loving it!

Good to see Spuds cocking it up again and MUFC proving yet again that we have the best Dutch manager in the PL!

Was only looking gtsaint.
One thing I will say about him. He's laid back. I love a laid back player. Shows their calm on and off the pitch. Which in my mind is a better player, a more controlled player.

I know that there are still more than 5 hours until the window closes and surprise, surprise as I see it Gaston is still a Southampton player . I know things might change before 6 o clock but just maybe RK has seen that there is a very talented footballer in there somewhere that just needs to somehow climb out and show us the quality that we know he has . There is no substitute for skill which he has in bucket loads and his vision could be what we need for the likes of J-Rod and Pelle . A fit and committed Gaston Ramirez can only be an asset to SFC just a shame Cortese put him on such a high wage contract, if he was on lower wages I think we would definitely keep him . Just goes to show that the great Cortese tried very hard to bankrupt us and if he hadn't of walked the Leibherr money might have disappeared before he did and that would have been a catastrophe .

llamedossaint , what is a number 10 these days . I know he can be a bit lightweight but so was Le Tiss and look what he did . Not making a comparison in any way just saying some flair players can be accommodated in certain sides and not be expected to chase back and tackle everyone . We have one at the moment in Tadic but when he produces the magic nobody would leave him out of the side .

Just one more thing about Gaston , I don't think a lot of people realise that he is only 24 years old .

Next to no chance of it happening otherwise Koeman loses complete face to the supporters and the media.

He has done one. To join up with Kenya on international duty. That means no sale and he'll have to sit in the corner and think about what he said

and whilst sitting in the corner, reflect on the fact that he is privileged to be playing for Saints
