Congratulations to the U21s on their cup win.

Some promising performers on the night - from Gazzaniga in goal (weird to see a Saints keeper who dominates the penalty area and actually comes for crosses), McCarthy at CB, Hesketh was decent but still looks lightweight even for U21 football - he needs to spend the summer eating. I could give him some tips.

McQueen has some talent. Seager knows his way to goal. And Gallagher scored an absolute crackerjack, although he was mostly anonymous, stuck out of position on the wing. Played through the middle, he finally came to the party - he's got a turn of pace that's quite unusual in such a tall man.

Again, it's weird to see a Saints striker who can run faster than an asthmatic pensioner.

Harrison Reed got himself sent off for two very rash challenges, but I think he'll still be available for the first team on the weekend as the suspension only counts for non-first team football.

Anyway, well done to the lads and here's hoping a few of them can push on into first team contention soon.

Watching the u21 game . Our future looks good. Some players really stood out and deserve a look at in pre season
- Ryan seager, jake Hesketh, Jason McCarthy, Sam McQueen .
Our right back, forgot his name, looks like a great like to like swap with clyne if clyne was to leave.
Also gazza had a great game in goal and couldn't do nothing about Matt targets own goal
Well done

Mugabi (no relation to Robert, I think) was the right back. He did all right, but is patently a centre back being played out of position - he looked quite awkward in possession at times. No way in the world he could replace Clyne.

It's weird, Saints have loads of left backs coming through (Targett, Will Wood, Josh Debayo - not to mention Luke Shaw, who's been and gone). But I've seen the U21s and U18s this season and they've never had a proper right back, always someone just shoe-horned in out of position who can do a job.

Jake Flannigan has looked the most promising of them, but then he suffered a bad knee injury. Perhaps Saints should be looking to bring in the Blackburn RB from last night - he was only about 17 and very decent.

Was that possibly Will Wood? The ginger one? I agree a lot of promising performances, can't forget Gallagher after that goal! Particularly if he's playing out of position
