Having been told for ages that Wanyama wouldn't ever come to Saints I sit here smugly because the transfer is very much on, and it looks like it will be very likely to happen.
All parties are happy with a sum just under £12m, Wanyama happy with the terms offered by Southampton.
Wanyama wants a move to the prem with a team that offers starting football, Southampton are currently comfortably the highest bidder (Cardiff monitoring it but no bid on the table as it stands). And Saints can offer Wanyama a decent pay rise.
Cortese wants a massive signing to show intent and this is the one. He's putting his cards on the table and paying slightly over the odds for this transfer to go through.
Celtic are happy with receiving around £12m for a player the paid £900k for 2 years ago, especially since they are resigned to losing him soon anyway as he wants to leave.
Only snag currently is that an important party on the Celtic side is currently out of the country. Expected to be signed and confirmed next week latest.
Well done Cortese and all the staff involved. Cortese and the Saints about to show their intent. This season he expects a serious challenge for Europe.
Is it just me who is a bit cautious about the £12million price tag? I hope we have a very large budget if we can blow that kind of money on one of our strongest positions.
Course it is load of b*******
Mate sont get big headed, he hasn't signed yet. And he may not, fingers crossed he does but you can't be smug until its on the saints webaite and confirmed, I hope he does but if he doesn't and he snubs us for another club then you can't be smug, wait and if he does sign then tell everyone I tild you so
We didn't get bossed by many sides last year, but we certainly did by West Brom. Perhaps Cortese has decided we need to be stronger in midfield.
Not well done cortese, massively over rated and unproven player, even with his minor CL experience, paying way too much money for him.
Yes, Wanyama could be a good signing and his age is such that he could develop into a really good player. However, I don't see this as a "massive signing" and suspect we might see someone brought in that will be much more of a surprise.

If anyone doubts how much of a big deal this is.
He was seriously looked at by United and Arsenal. The only reason they didn't put forward offers is because he wants guaranteed first team football, which they can't offer immediately.
He's also currently being monitored at by a host of other premiership teams including Liverpool.
Most Celtic fans say he is world class and should be going to 'better' and 'bigger' clubs than Southampton. They are shocked at of all the teams he might end up at Saints.
£12million price tag could go either way, but the general thought is that in a few seasons he will be worth over £20m. He's only 21 and has outclassed Barcelona in the CL. By anyones standards that is a phenomenal achievement.
Realistically he's probably worth around £8m. But potentially he could be worth up to £30m in a few seasons time.
I'm hoping the same, Martin. Trouble is, for all the top talent we're fishing for, so are Spuds, Arse, Lpool etc
I know what you mean mate but suspect Cortese may pull off a surprise. Can't see many players moving to Spurs until they know if Bale (and maybe manager) are staying. Arsenal will spend big but if they sign a couple of players for very big money can't see them doing a lot more. And as for Liverpool, without Suarez, I think they will have problems attracting the best players, especially with a program to cut their wage bill. I see all those three clubs doing worse next season than last.
Anyway, I suspect we could all get a clearer view over the next week.

Obviously Suarez is massive for Liverpool, but I believe they'll be much better with or without him next season. They've made some quality additions over the last 12 months, in particular our mutual target Coutinho. gutted on that one now. Spuds were poor last season and their performances were persistently masked by late Bale wonder goals. That won't happen again whether he stays or not. No one can keep scoring beautiful winners against the run of play 15 times a season. Saints philosophy and Cortese's shrewdness will pay off, but without breaking the bank, we will need to be patient. The best thing is, we know we'll keep going forward and keep our best players as long as we do.
Haha wanyama is on holiday! read the quotes in the Kenyan press before posting garbage
