Apparantly due to financial fair play we may not be able to progress as much as we would like this summer, as it will ristrict us to how much we will spend, I read an article in the echo about it, so not sure how reliable it is, I'm not to sure I know the rules of Financial Fair Play to well tbh, do you know how much it would restrict us Ed?

{Ed002's Note - There are UEFA FFP and EPL FFP rules - they are very different. What restricts Southampton spending the way they have in the past is the income of the club.}

Apparently the real concern is a rule in the Premier League FFP doctrine which says that if a club spends more then 52 million on wages, then wages can only increase by 4 million, in addition to any amount brought in through "new commercial deals" (whatever that means), in the next season. This is probably a key reason why Krueger is talking so much about expanding Saints' commercial reach overseas--it would provide more room to increase salaries.

Ah ok thanks Ed good to know, we have spent a fair bit in past windows, but I'm guessing not enough to restrict us in the next window then. And even more bigger reason to get the Barnards, Sharp's, Hoiveld, Fox, Forte and particularly Osvaldo off the wage bill

{Ed002's Note - I would agree Sam.}

on saturday I was at the villa game and to be ohnest Wanyama was one of our best players but yet still people got on his back he looked on saturday like he did before he got injured which was quality and this is good because of comepetirion between him ad corky but the main problem saturday was that we missed jayrod, they way we play needs that pacey player to catch those threw balls and saturday lallana shniderlin etc were waiting for people to make those runs jay rod does every game and eithier no one was doing it or it ended up being steve davis or lambert or even lallana chasing them and it didn't work. Becuse of saturdays performance the easiest point saints have ever got I think without jayrod we may need to chang they way we attack not they style of play possestion full backs pushing foward etc, but the way we attack using lambert lallana your thoughts?

I agree that we obviously missed Jay Rod's pace, I think we should fast track someone pacey from the academy like Rowe or Sinclair or even recall Isgrove, as their bound to come into the first team sooner or later so why not give them ago? Or even move Luke Shaw up to that position and give Taggart a go at LB as from everything I've heard Taggart could be even better than Shaw, also would be keen to see how Luke does on the wing, as his attacking runs are outstanding at times

We have struggled scoring all season, Osvaldo was a bad buy specially as the manager knew him and put faith in him.
Norwich, Cardiff, Villa, we struggled to score.
Poch has not yet agreed to stay, fact.
Not sure why, salary, transfer funds, family, a better offer? I'm not sure why.
Shaw was/is going Man Utd, not Chelsea (Moyes situation may have confused situatituon?)
Lallana is talking to Liverpool, advanced, talks.
Cork is going to Newcastle.
Morgan wants out if Poch leaves which now seems pretty likely.
Check the bookies odds.

This is a rumour site yes?
Not a wish list for dreaming fantasists.

I heard these from a likely source, not a drunk in the pub.

You really are the bearer of bad news aren't you St Nicholas.

I really really hope you are wrong.

Lallana is talking to Liverpool? Thought bids had to be accepted before players talk to clubs

Agree0 Disagree0

St Nicholas,

Any football club with or without ambition would never allow half of their first team to leave in one transfer window.
Southampton, an ambitious club has said that they would not allow even 1 player from their first team to leave without consent of the club, player and manager.
I don't know your likely source but unless they are Pochettino, Katherina or Krueger their opinion is invalid.
Look on the bright side.

St Nicholas is just one of those people who have to moan about everything

Poch + Cork haven't agreed new contracts yet because the club are waiting to find out their financial status for the next season, they still have another year to go, no club can approach them before jan without the clubs say so, they're not leaving before being offered new contracts unless the club wants them to

Osvaldo, anyone with their head screwed on and an ounce of knowledge of the prem knows an average of a goal every 3 games (less than that as he didn't play the full 90 most weeks) for a striker learning the league, language and the tactics of the team he plays in is a decent return. His suspensions and the way he left the club were a bad point but on the pitch (where a footballer should be judged) he was decent.

We have struggled in a lot of games to score - most of which are teams playing with 10 players on their goal line - a lack of a plan b and a lack of quick players is at fault for this, which should be fixed in the summer

As with every other player at the club, Shaw, Lallana, Schneiderlin + Cork aren't leaving unless the club want them to - no bids have been accepted and they won't be unless they're way over market value (example - we owe 25% of lallana's potential fee to Bournemouth, the club will want an extra 25% on top of whatever fee there is to cover that) expect them all to be offered new contracts along with MoPo and Cork in the summer, once the club know how much money they have to throw around, bookies get things astronomically wrong more times than they get it right

Don't forget we could still drop out of the top half (a few million either way) we don't know how many of our games will be on TV next season, we need to find a new sponsor, season tickets, find out who is leaving and what the wage situation is after that - for the club to gamble with money that isn't theirs yet, just to hurry things up by a couple of months is stupid

St Nicholas, we have all heard this but it is paper talk, I'm sure there is interest as the players have been brilliant this season. And where has Cork to Newcastle come from? Haven't heard that one before, as for Poch leaving, Spurs aren't miles ahead of Saints in terms of development, with a few key signings we could easily be above them. Our players seem pretty loyal or else they would've already left.

Agree0 Disagree0

St nicholas the bookies talk as much OLED as the papers unless somthing confirmed as in the have seen them there and know the facts you shouldn't believe any of it poch stays team stays simple and it seems like poch IS staying, why would he leave us for spurs its not really a step up anymore and if we can keep our players we can hopefully make a step up COYS
