Just seen Cortese`s interview, as Arnie said, I`ll be back!

He may be returning to football, but it looks highly unlikely he'll be returning to us.

At the end of the beeb interview, Cortese seems to hint he is about to return to football. I wonder if its with us?.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hope so!

Agree0 Disagree0

I think If you read the entire article he also said that he would not consider going back to the saints unfortunately

Agree0 Disagree0

^ imo he meant whilst KL was in charge, if he has another buyer I could see him returning

Agree0 Disagree0

I didn't see that other article. Yeah, 'never' is a fairly emphatic answer! Even if there were a takeover, 'never' still sounds pretty final, I'm afraid. Still, sounds like he'll be popping up again somewhere.

Agree0 Disagree0

Villa is for sale.

Come on Cortese, get on that red and white horse and ride in and save the day (preferably with an obscenely wealthy backer!). Totally fed up with all these rumours regarding mass exodus. Surely there is more to being a football player than a huge salary and a Bugatti. Shaw, Lallana and Rodriguez - all made the England squad at Saints, who says we can't make Champions league! #endthebigfourmonopoly - it's dull!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally agree Saintrobbie
We are an attractive club to play for and be part of

Marc Abrighton was released by Villa, he seemed like a decent prospect to me, he'll add more options out wide and not bad for a free, obviously won't be the signing to take us to the next level but wouldn't be bad on a free, thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Albrighton, didn't really get a consistent look in at Villa under Lambert, when playing under O'Neill he seemed to do an alright job, although I don't (IMO) feel he's any better than some of the other options we currently have.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yh I said he wouldn't take us to the next lesson but would build up some depth and I reckon he's a bit underated as he put in some decent performances towards the end of the season

How many times do you think the same story can go to print and then fail to materialise?
Poch to leave to Spurs in the next few days.
Lallana to sign for Liverpool this week.
Arsenal to sign Spiderman.

These stories declaring imminent transfers have been running for months, even years in Spider-man's case. If I was this incompetent or just plain wrong in my job, I would be signing on by now.

I just feel that in terms of my own professional pride, I would maybe spend some time actually investigating and perhaps even speaking to those involved. Rather than waiting for Tweets and then finding ways to link them to weak stories. It seems that our journos these days are just lazy and bereft of imagination or information.

I know it's difficult to ignore the press, but at least we should remember that, apart from a select few, they are just lazy, biased, failed writers. Who, it seems, are all too willing to pocket a few quid in return for printing stories largely constructed by manipulative agents manufacturing moves for their players or clubs.

Tomorrow's news? It's been awhile since someone copied and pasted the Chambers to Arsenal story.

I've heard that saints haven't sacked Dodd they've just moved him to the first team to replace shaw.

It's clear that we have become the subject of a media blitz, regardless of validity or truth. And whilst it shows how far the lads have come, it's frustrating. Quick few points though. Papers, clubs and anyone for that matter can talk player contracts, house searching, ambitions. But if the club don't want to sell, it's irrelevant. Maybe sure and lallana do want to move on, but they have 3 years left on the contracts. Saints can't be made to sell. Especially at the low prices being offered, and defiantly not until after the WC. Katherine won't want to devalue the club. As for the mighty mopo, he of course has ambition, and for that reason he would be mad to join Tottenham, and I think it will pan out that he knows this. We must stop letting every rumour and article wind us up. There's just no logic or sense in any of this disaster talk.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree as far as Poch. I think he's probably using the offer from Tottenham and interest form elsewhere as leverage in negotiating a better deal with Saints. Same thing I would do if I got a concrete job offer to move to another company--I'd go to my boss and see if I could negotiate an improved salary!

Before all the England players went on their training camp Roy Hodgson stated that none of the involved players would be allowed to negotiate contracts or transfer until after the World Cup so rumours about Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana on the brink on signing for Liverpool/Man Utd are laughable.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think the national team manager has that kind of power. He can ask the players not to get distracted with negotiations, but I can't see how he can forbid it--unless he means anyone caught negotiating is out of the squad! Might end up with a pretty small squad by the time the tournament starts, in that case.

Agents are there for a reason

Is it only me that reads between the lines and doesn't see doom and gloom? Mopo has said he has a year left on his contract so there is nothing to talk about! Does that mean he intends to see it out? Lallana said he wants to play champions league, but said that doesn't mean he is leaving! Does he want to achieve that at Southampton? Shaw signed a 5 year deal last year! Maybe, just maybe, no one will leave and saints will spend heavy and we will improve on 8th and make Europe!

Liverpool reported to have offered 8 mil for dejan surely this will be rejected as we paid 8 mil for him and his value has surely risen?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The verbal offer made was deemed unacceptable.}

If they tripple that we'll consider, read an article saying he was ranked the best prem defender this season based on stats

If anyone hasn't watched the Cortese interview on the BBC do so, great bit of insight into his understanding of the club and its intended direction; gutted that he has gone, was clearly the right man to lead us further. Suppose we will never really know why he left.

I have finally calmed down. All this media hype is proved to be nonsense as they are still peddling it even though the players are away with England. How actually could Luke be tying up a contract.

The fact is that at some point some hack will get one right and say how wonderful he/she is.

There is a media campaign against Saints so we must take this as a compliment for the excellent season. The spin on quotes is frightening - let's take a look as some:

Morgan - I want to play CL - Yes they all do so he is off to Arsenal
Luke - Gutted for Doddys - Yes we all are so he has tied up with Man Utd
JayRod - Don't know what's happening - Yes
exactly how it should so off to Spurs
Dejan - Best moment was goal at Anfield so off there now.

Totally crazy. And breath.
Keep calm and support the Saints.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ha, I've yet to calm down and I don't think I will till september!

That said there is no concerted media campaign against Southampton. These things just develop. Look at the narrative; first few months of the year every journo and pundit was harking on about how wonderful Southampton were, few months after that it was Cortese leaving and the potential fragmentation of the squad, and now we're at this point where the media links all of our players to transfers. You can see how it developed quite clearly and it is quite understandable.

Though you are right on a few things, a lot of journalism, especially sports, is just 'educated' guesswork. Presumption of X+Y= Z. And as I've said before, alike Nostradamus, if you predict a thousand things eventually you get a few right. It's called saturation.

Oh and Van Gaal tied up a contract despite being on international duty, it does happen.

In general you are right, but the media twists everyones words in Football to get them to say what they want. They ask loaded questions and get what they want. We aren't special in this one. Let's just wait and see what happens with Poch and the boards next move, nothing is settled yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

They have people speaking to people! They probably even buy a house or a birthday cake this way!
Heard we've signed the Swansea left back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Morgan has previously said he wants the club to invest to do better next season and that he wouldn't force a move, Luke has repeatedly said he would be happy to stay, Jay went on to say I hope we can keep the squad and manager together and Dejan said he's very happy but I can see how the media would pick out those individual parts to make it look like a melt down
