We have to find cover for Pelle in this window, plus another keeper, to cover for Forster.

If we don't we are going to fail at the final run in.

Totally agree, I think we could have done with another striker at the start of the season - we need a proven goal scorer. As for other cover another CD wouldn't go a miss and a keeper.
Still have time in this window, we're in a great position so now let's build on this!

Are Saints desperate enough to recall Dani Osvaldo and try again to make it work?

It's going to be extremely hard to find a half decent striker available in this window, willing to join Saints to probably be a squad player, and who won't cost the earth (most likely a loan deal).

Long's going to be out for 4-6 weeks. Rodriguez has no chance of returning within that timeframe as he's not even training properly yet.

6-7 games with just one senior striker on the books is just asking for trouble. It's a position Saints were light in even before the season began - Shane Long's nowhere near good enough to be leading the line in a top half Premier League team.

Without forking out too much money the only striker I could think of with recent BPL experience potentially available is Javier Hernandez. I assume we'd have to negotiate with both Real Madrid and Man United for that to happen. He's the type of player I could envisage Koeman making a top striker of again. As for Osvaldo, he burnt his bridges long ago, cannot see it because of his adversity to certain players.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would love to see Hernandez in a Saints shirt but I don't think it will happen. I Think that RoKo was hoping to get through the season with the players he had but surely he must bring someone else in now to hopefully knock in a few goals. We are starting to look a little short on quality players. We definitely need better keeper back up than Davis. Good servant but way past his best.

I have to say I agree, with giving osvaldo another chance. Everyone deserves a second chance but I don't think it would work. He would get too much stick from the fans and he wouldn't perform well under that kind of preassure. Also I don't think he wants to ply for us. I don't think Hernandez would be willing to come here from madrid personally, I think our best bet would be rickie back on a loan till the end of the season. That would work for us and him and he wouldn't cost anything on a loan. We could pay his wages and let him go back at the end of the season. He is proven and would a lot in very well.

We didn't get rid of Osvaldo he got rid of himself. Only 2 people to blame for that situation Pochettino/Cortese, it was a very bad signing and with both of them gone the current administration is left picking up the pieces. We need him off our books and if we have to take a multi million pound loss on him so be it. He may be registered as a Southampton player but in the real world he has never been one and never will be. Accept the loss and move on it's the only way, whilst he is still on the books it is mind-blowingly frustrating and the only person who isn't suffering is Osvaldo himself.

I am wondering whether to have put this on the rumour site. Rumour has it that Saints don't exist you know ! Headlines on all TV channels were about the shocks in the FA Cup and that Chelsea/Man City/Tottenham go out and that Liverpool and Man U struggle to get replays. I know it is not a situation we are proud of but you would think the team that has upset all the PL predictions this season namely Saints would have been at least mentioned. Match of the Day (not that I am bothered) showed about 45 seconds of our game but nearly a quarter of an hour of a 0 - 0 Liverpool draw with Bolton. So the message is SOUTHAMPTON does officially not exist in the football world at all, the only time they are mentioned is if we manage to beat one of the big boys. When this does happen which is quite often the discussion is not usually what is good with us but analysing what has gone wrong with our opposition to be beaten by ( as quoted quite often by these smarmy pundits ) little old Southampton. Thoughts chaps ?

I think that's perfect Chris! I would much rather we stay under the radar rather than inherit a bunch of second hand fans because of our success, although this seems inevitable as we grow commercially. I'm not saying we don't deserve the plaudits either, just that as the season goes on it works much better in our favour. If anything Palace deserved to get some recognition yesterday, but they were overshadowed by the giant killers.

I am not that bothered but I am now secretly hoping that Crystal Palace win the cup. The one thing they did do yesterday was give it everything and sort of caught us napping. Pardew must take some credit as well right from winning the toss and making us kick the other way.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah Palace have nothing to lose as they will likely stave off relegation relatively easy. However I was thinking preferably one of West Ham or Liverpool only because it may distract them from the league leaving us with a three-way race between ourselves, United and Arsenal for top 4.

For some reason we never seem to do as well when we're playing towards the Chapel End first half.

Agree0 Disagree0

Palace beating us isn't anywhere near the headline that city and chelsea being out of the competition this early on. place are a premier league team and the others that beat city and chelsea are not. Also they didn't keep a clean sheet, they weren't as clinical and bear in mind that the utd v Cambridge is a team in the league that little pompe are in!! That's a real scalp!!

I will just say one thing if Man Utd were third in the premier league, which they aren't because they are below us, then beaten at home by Crystal Palace it would have been seen as a shock result. It would have been headlines believe me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not if city and CHELSEA were both beaten by lower league teams on the same day. That said, it would have been more talked about.
