I dont know who is coming in but one thing i do know is this. When i got my ticket on Friday i more or less bump into N.A.and i asked him if there were any new players signed that day.He smiled and said this.He would be gobsmacked if there were no new players next week. This might be an obvious statement but at least its a quote. However its typical N.A. a policition answer all round the houses and getting nowhere. The Baron

Jay Rodriguez - Done
Steven Davis - Done
Nathaniel Clyne - Done
Paulo Gazzaniga - Done
Andreu Fontas - €6,000,000 (£4,500,000)
Gaston Ramirez - €15,000,000 (£12,000,000)
Pierre Emerick Aubeymang - €7,000,000 (£5,500,000)
Scott Dann - £5,000,000
Martin Olsson - £4,000,000
-
Not saying all of them will happen - but they're realistic and I for one would love them to sign

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Having heard of Dann's exploits in the Championship so far I'm not sure he's so good... Can you give some details on Fontas and Aubeymang? I mean it'd be nice to know who it is you think we should be signing.

Agree1 Disagree0

Would love all of it apart from Dann.

As above says... Dann has been weak in the championship so far, wouldn't really want him. He doesn't offer a great deal of experience or youth - I'd rather we did one or the other. Either get in a really experienced, quality CB like Dawson, or go young and European and take a gamble.

Sorry for this but davis has been done at the near
post two games in a row any goalkeeper will say that is poor

Believable0 Unbelievable2

Maybe I'm just not good with goalkeeper, but who can we bring in who's better (thats realistic)

Agree0 Disagree0

Why not Craig Gordon hes a free agent and hes got premier league experience

Agree3 Disagree1

Gordon is good
butland was realistic and would not have let there first one in but we were nt prepard to pay for quality witch this day and age you have to

Agree0 Disagree1

Two 1-on-1's and no other mistakes. With the amount of mistakes prem keepers are currently making (even the best... Cech included) I think we can let him off. He hasn't been beaten from range or by dealing badly with crosses. A keeper can't be blamed for 1-on-1's at this level, next you will be blaming him for not saving a penalty.

Give him a chance. I think our main problem is having a defence that allows clear 1-on-1 opportunities developing with absolutely zero pressure from defenders.

JJ

Agree5 Disagree1

Have you seen the goals joe hart
has let in so far
three to the left of him
is that side of him a weakness
on his part
also he is the england no 1

Agree1 Disagree0

I'm sorry but Butland is not as good as you all think. Sure he's capped for England and was in the Olympic team but he made several mistakes during the Olympics and I think is kind of the reason Birmingham are currently sitting in the relegation zone in the Championship. He's not worth any more than our initial offer. I'd say he's not worth more than 3 million.

Agree0 Disagree0

You have to remember in a 1 v 1 that the keeper has only 20% chance of saving the shot, just got to make yourself big and hope for the best, if anything it is the defences fault for letting them get 1v1

Agree2 Disagree0

Where did you get the statistic 20%? Most games would have a lot more goals if that was the odd. I mean I'm a keeper (at a low level granted) but I'd say less than 50% of the 1 v 1's go in vs me and I'm not even that good.

Agree0 Disagree2

But the strikers u play arent that good

Agree2 Disagree0

He has saved 2 penalties in 2 games, been beaten by a few great finishes and saved our backsides several times. No need to panic buy a new goalkeeper!

Agree0 Disagree0

26 Aug 2012 21:32:23
Does anybody think that one week isn't really enough to complete the necessary signings we need? Definately need to strengthen the defence and need a pacey winger or two to create the chances. Personally, I think we've left it too late. Might be stating the obvious but there you go

Believable3 Unbelievable2

Have faith. The club has come this far under NC's and NA's supervision. I'm sure they're going to be very busy this coming week.

Southampton are preparing themselves for a bid for Adam lallana from Swansea and Chelsea also Blackburn but doubt he will drop down a division afc Bournemouth will receive 25% of the fee believed to be 6m

Believable0 Unbelievable6

Get real, nowhere near good enough for chelsea

Agree0 Disagree5

If the offer is 6 million then the saints won't accept it. Lallana is worth more to the club than that. Also I'm not sure he'd be happy to move from Southampton having turned down the opportunity before.

Agree3 Disagree0

Lol blackburn are living in a dreamworld

Agree3 Disagree0

Bournemouth won't get anything as he's not going anywhere

Agree3 Disagree0

Who does Lallana support? If it's saints I could see no reason why he would move to another club in his career if we stay up because atm he's not good enough for starting top 4 and when he is hopefully southampton will be pressing on for top 10 and if he wants england football roy hodson is the type of manager that doesn't care about the club. If he doesn't support saints, I would be worried about about lossing him in a few years.

Agree1 Disagree1

Adam has been with us since he was 12. He loves the club. He had the chance to jump ship when we were relegated to League One but he is still here.

Agree3 Disagree0

Lallana is an everton fan.

Agree1 Disagree4

We've just made him skipper so he isn't going anywhere.

Agree1 Disagree0

Lallana is a huge Saints fan you person, he has been since he was 8

Agree0 Disagree0

I was the guy that wrote the essay asking who lallana supports, I only ask because it is a huge factor, more so I believe than what academy you come from, I mean ward-prowse presumably supports portsmouth.

I didn't think our performance was to bad we just couldn't keep the pressure on for long enough, I feel there are 4 weak links in the team.
1, Guly (now I've never been a fan of hi.) but there comes a time when everyone can see his flaw as a RW, he's just so slow! He nearly lost possession all the time as he couldn't keep up with the attacks,
2. Fox, not much is really needed to say, terrible at the back, good going forward.
3. Fonte, great against man city, up to his usual tricks against Wigan, i now feel he's had to many chances.
4. I'm not 100% confident about Davis in goal, he gives away what way he's diving before they have shot, the more intellegent players will pick up on this. I feel maybe give Gazzaniga a try, i mean he is 6.4ft

I want to stress this is an opinion and we are all entitled to an opinion.
Id like to hear yours?

Not really a rumour but, if you were a premiership manager at a club like saints, with money to spend, why would you not bid for Man City players like Dzeko (Clinical striker accross Europe for many years) Kolo Toure (was one of the best centre backs 2 years ago) De Jong (Quality centre Mid) Kolorov (Excellent left back). All these players have been publicaly made available by Man City at reasonable prices.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

Cos adkins doesnt like bringin in big players

Agree0 Disagree0

Because they wouldn't want to joint us

Agree1 Disagree0

Because they have very high wages as Man City didn't consider the fact they might need to be sold on when you buy them. Some of them earn towards 150k per week. Also they wouldn't want to leave the champions for a non-european side.

Agree3 Disagree0

Cortese would sack adkins if he asked for them lol

Agree0 Disagree0

THe only one I think that would join us is De jong the others would understandable want to play for bigger clubs, and man city over payed players wages, (now they don't have to as much cause they've made it)

Agree0 Disagree1

All excelkent players i wouldnt mind here, 1 problem, we have a wage structure and they could prob pay our teams wages with there own

Guly is the laziest, slowest cant jump Brazilian i have ever seen, and why NA keeps playing him i will never know

Believable3 Unbelievable4

1 he has no 1 else in that position
2 adkins likes him

Agree2 Disagree1

Because he is the only other saints player that can play with his back to goal (lambert can as well but when he is are main striker we need him front to goal) thats arguably the only reason he played him against city, my biggest annoyance with na is his use Rodriquez and the formation, we have no wingers currently good enough so why don't we have a 4 3 2 1 like italy in euro's with rodriquez and lallana behind lambert, it work well if we do pull of the gaston signing as well and we can drop lallana deeper.

Agree2 Disagree0

To be fare and only my opinion de ridder aint even be gaven a chance and i see better form him than i have from puncheon

Heard people on the solent yesterday calling for Adkins' head. Sorry, we all knew this was going to be a long difficult season, where avoiding relegation is an achievement and anything beyond that is a bonus. Yes we need to make some signings, especially defensively, but we need to support this team throughout this season. IN ADKINS WE TRUST.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

Adkins has his hands tied he has said in nearly every paper report "people are working hard behind the scenes "
witch i take as i've give a list to the chairman and he is doing the dealings
we squeezed out of the championship in the end of last season just made second after being so far ahead

I would blame him.

Unprofessional primadonna.

JJ

Apart from jj and his clubs manager yes but i do agree wid him COYR

Agree3 Disagree0

It aint unprofessional to want to play in a better league at a young age to make a success of yourself
he wanted to leave, Bologna are broke

you cant keep slaves anymore human rights {Ed003's Note - absolute garbish,the kid signed a deal earning thousands of Euros a week,being held to a contract is not akin to slavery!}

people with money think there bigger than anyone
did fergie do it to ronaldo no
did saints do it to ox,walcott no {Ed003's Note - Are you being serious? the guy is earning a fortune on a contract 'HE' signed with his agents advice,you maybe should apply for a job in Sepp Blatter's office.....unbelievable }

Agree0 Disagree0

Wats the point in kepping an unhappy player who wont play if he dont play he will go down in value sell him and move on {Ed003's Note - fair shout}

Agree1 Disagree0

Ill tell u wat would be annoyin we go through all this and he cant get a work permit

Agree1 Disagree0

Hilarious that some people are saying it is akin to slavery. Embarrassed for you.

I would blame him because Bologna were good enough to have faith in him and sign him when he was a youngster and helped with his development. He signed a contract that benefited his development and got paid a boat load for it. Now just because a transfer isn't working out, he's throwing his toys out of the pram to get what he wants and ignoring everything Bologna, a club he would be no where without, need from the transfer, even though they have gone out of their way in trying to push this transfer through for him. If they didn't want to sell him then they could have stopped every club talking to him. They did their best and sometimes things don't work out. He should show a bit of loyalty instead of being a standard C U Next Tuesday.

Personally I don't want him anywhere near our club. Can just see him doing the same to us in a seasons time. Would rather sign young hungry players that want to be part of Southampton Football Club, than ones who are solely interested in furthering their career.

Take the legend Le Tiss for example. He bled Saints. There are decent, loyal and ambitious footballers out their, as a club we don't need to settle for the likes of Ramirez, Tevez et al who refuse to play and cause internal issues. It's not a philosophy we preach to our academy and it shouldn't be something we allow in our transfer dealings.

JJ

Agree2 Disagree4

Le tiss would not of gotten away with being so unfit anywere else reason he went no were every good player uses clubs as stepping stones to get were they wont
the important thing is wot they do while they are there

Agree0 Disagree0

And tevez saved west ham we will need someone of that calibre to do the same for us but let us put our hand together and pray a young messi type player wonts to play for southampton fc instead of one of the big boys [ big wages included]
yeh lets wait for that

Agree0 Disagree0

Decent players play championship , league one football
we need world class talent,we got plent decent players

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed i hear wot ya say i do but players move on and should be aloud to [ right for both sides cause ] if he dont wont to be there
let the player move on
hence the reason i mention other players and managers

Agree0 Disagree0

Furthering there career is wat lambert did wen leaving bristol city u sayin u dont want him near our club jj

Agree0 Disagree0

I am glad the clubs found a compromise and look forward to seeing him in a southampton shirt.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lambert never refused to play for his club though. He wanted to further his career but was patient and did his best for Rovers without throwing them under the bus.

I'm not saying players shouldn't have ambitions to further their careers - they are only human after all. But when it is apparently their only motive it rings alarm bells for me and I would rather we steered clear. Ramirez shows no intention to be loyal to Bologna, he shows no consideration to their situation and just refuses to play because things haven't worked out for him. If it was the other way round and we were the selling club we would all be angry that a player takes so much from the club but shows zero respect back. I'm just concerned we will be on the bad end of his attitude in one or two seasons time. Players like Lambert were patient and loyal to past clubs and waited for their opportunity, not forced an opportunity at the expense of a past club. We are happy currently because we are getting a good deal, but when Ramirez is refusing to play for us next season and causes unrest in a perfectly harmonious team and forces us to sell him for cheap you won't be so happy then.

JJ

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree but ramirez was promised a transfer last year and has waited a whole year to leave he has been quite patient now he has said enough is enough and if you dont sell me i will refuse too play for you but i agree they have done alot for him but now it is time for him to go and find pastors new but jj maybe he shouldnt of done what he done but he did and he is signing and you are gonna have to put up with seeing him week in week out. Great signing well done NA NC. COYR!

Rickies not gona drop a division not when hes worked so hard to get ere, the chicken farmers need to get their heads out the clouds. Right as everyones sayin we need a cb and a left back asap also i feel we should do whatever it takes to get ramirez on the bus cos guly has got flashes of brazlian class but other times n most of the time he doesnt, cant work it out how he got 90 mins yday n punch didnt even come on but i still trust Adkins hard not to when the guys got us from league 1. Trev

Believable5 Unbelievable2

Blackburn will be prem next season thats why lambert will join us, and we are the bigger club

Agree1 Disagree8

With Steve Kean in charge, you'll be lucky to reach the play-offs. Only the start of the season and you think you're guaranteed to reach the PL. Dream on.

Agree5 Disagree0

I accept blackburn had a decent spell back in the day. But a bigger club than Southampton?! Nonsense. Blackburn are a club on the decline. Poorly run from the ground up. A terrible stadium, dwindling support, terrible academy, terrible finances. I could go on. In what way are you bigger or better than Southampton? We have better facilities (stadium, training etc), arguably the second best academy in Europe, we're one of the richest clubs in this country, we have better support than Blackburn and we are in a higher division than Blackburn. Yes we had a wobble, but our future is considerably brighter than Blackburns. Blackburn reeks of decay... support is going down, the manager is hated, the owners are hated, all the good players want to leave/have left.... contrast that to Southampton, a club with great owners, a great manager and great fans.

Well done on the past Blackburn, but have a reality check.

JJ {Ed001's Note - to be fair, Blackburn have a very good academy.}

Agree7 Disagree0

In the Championship you are not certain of promotion. Blackpool, Charlton, Bolton, Leeds, Leicester, Nottingham Forest and Wolves. All of those clubs could well go up. Forest have the financial backing, Blackpool have two top notch wingers. My promotion picks from the Championship for this season if I'm honest are Blackpool, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest.

Hasnt lambert already said he wants to stay? find another striker

I heard yesterday that NC and NA had a massive row , is it because of the lack of signings or the fact that he has to play Guly no matter what .....
if as ive heard Guly has to play evey week as NC put it in his contract, then we are in BIG trouble, he was awful yesterday.
On Rodriguez, why pay £6 mil on a striker only to play him out wide ?
Please somebody shed some light............

Believable2 Unbelievable4

I'm not sure how big a row can be when it involves Adkins or how you could know about it... I doubt their is a clause for any player any where which states they must play in every game.

Agree4 Disagree0

Totally agree with the above post.

I doubt there is a big row, probably a minor disagreement. Cortese has made the funds available to Adkins, maybe Adkins is just frustrated that Cortese is too keen to drive a hard bargain rather than look at what the team desperately needs. It wouldn't be more than frustration at his methods, rather than Adkins being forbidden to make the signings we need.

And there would never be a contract guaranteeing a player could play every game! No such thing would ever exist. Guly couldn't move to a club better than Saints, so we would never need to make such a generous contract! He should feel fortunate he is in the first team squad, let alone starting.

The reason Guly starts is because Saints are all about good link up play. Punch is fast and skillful but isn't a calm passer of the ball. Guly suits Saints more because he holds balls up a bit, lays them off, plays passes backwards. Punch generally just runs forward, I think Adkins wants possession above all else, which would work if we were a little more clinical and made less mistakes at the back.

In the future it would be useful to have someone who has a bit of everything to his game.. can pass it round and hold it up but also offers some threat running forward... hence the interest in Ramirez and Phillips. We will get someone in to fill that mould.

We need a CB and LB. Fox isn't good enough defensively and we need a CB just for squad depth if nothing else.

Give Rodriguez a chance to settle. I think we are a long way off completing our squad and finding out which is the best way to play. I'm not sure anyone is convinced with the 4-3-3 but it will take a while for players to adapt to it. Rodriguez doesn't just play wide, he can drift in and let lallana go wide sometimes. I think we just need time to settle. Too many changes at the moment. No set starting 11, no set formation, new signings being talked about all the time. Can't wait til the end of the transfer window so the boys can settle and get more of a game plan together.

JJ

Agree2 Disagree0

Ok JJ just a comment. I think why people want Puncheon over Guly is because Puncheon links up so much better with Clyne. I can see that Guly is a talented player but we need a team that communicates well and can play off each other. Puncheon and Clyne showed throughout pre-season and the Man City game they interlink brilliantly.

As for Rodriguez he is a brilliant STRIKER. He is by no means a winger but he has the ability to drop back and aid the defence. I think therefore we should look at our left wing options and find someone other than Jay Rod to play that role and start Jay up front. Then later in the game we can bring on our sharpshooter Rickie Lambert to do the late damage like against City.

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree with you there JJ. COYR.

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh of course. I prefer Punch over Guly too because he's far less frustrating to watch... he actually links up well with Clyne going forward and penetrates, whilst Guly passes backwards and rarely runs forwards or beats defenders. I am merely trying to guess at why Adkins has such a preference for him... I think it's because the overall attitude being preached to the team is to keep possession and not just go forward. I think Guly tends to be more 'safe' and keep the ball and lay it off and pass it round more than Punch. Whilst Punch runs forward and tries to be more attack minded. Punch is better to watch, and provides more goals (which we like) but Guly is probably better for this (spanish-like) possession philosophy being preached.

don't have Empty seats in the home
stands

Believable2 Unbelievable6

Wow you're nice. Towards the start of the season you'd find a few empty stands at a lot of clubs especially after our nation hosted the Olympics it meant everyone went off on holiday later.

Agree3 Disagree3

Totally disagree with that statement, most clubs were sell out's at the start of the season which was last week and the Olympics had finished, Sorry but you will be finding it very hard along with West Ham, probably joint favourites for the drop

Agree0 Disagree3

If you cared to check, there were 29500 at the match. A lot of empty Wigan seats!!

Agree2 Disagree0

The empty seats were due to Wigan returning a large amount of their allocation!

Agree2 Disagree0

The only empty seats were from the Wigan end.

It really can depend these things. Plus I doubt VS Wigan was a game they were too excited about. I'd imagine it should be a sell out for Southampton Vs Manchester United at St Mary's.

I know theres people out there thats guna think im mad sayin this but i think we need another striker one with pace who can get in behind defences i know we got rickie sharp lee and rodriguez but the formation weve started playing god help us if we bought j rod to play out wide because its not his position might aswell have another guly out there and 6-7 mill is alot of money to be playin someone out of their natural position. im looking forward to lee coming back injrct a bit of pace and quality to the team i know some will disagree but its my opinion what do u lot think

joe

Believable7 Unbelievable0

You're mad!! In all seriousness I can understand your point but what do you expect Adkins to do about it? I mean he can only sign so many players. He's sorting out the Rodriguez situation by trying to get natural wingers and pacey players to join the saints ranks. Like Ramirez. He's also got to sort the defence out. I imagine the earliest we'll look for a striker will be January.

Apparently West Ham are in for Matt Phillips and Tom Ince, with Swansea also in for the latter. We're going to have to move fast if we are going to bring either in, but that seems an attribute our transfer department doesn't hold.

Also Yoshida not joining us according to Nige

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Move fast southampton don't do fast!

Agree1 Disagree0

I'm not sure Blackpool will let either go anyway.

26 Aug 2012 00:15:57
I thought we played okay today, some nice football and alot of possesion, as i watched it saw three main areas were we could improve before the window closes.
1. Right wing, ive never really been a fan of Guly but i feel hes to slow and dosnt put enough effort in to be a RW.
2. CB, everyone will agee here, fonte last week had a real good game but today was up to his old tricks, to weak, panics and cost us the second goal.
3. GK, of what i have seen of Davis in goal i havnt been to impressed (although its only two games in) but he seems like hes always slow to make the decision and mostly give away what way he is diving before they havw kicked the ball, the inteligent players will pick p on this soon enough. maybe its time to give Gazzaniga a go?

what do you all think?
and this is only an opinion, we all have our own

JustASaint

Believable2 Unbelievable1

I have never rated Guly but am lead to believe that as he was signed by NC that it is in his contract for him to play every week. true or not i cannot understand why he has started first two games and not been subbed when he is by far the worst player on the pitch.
I do wonder if this has something to do with the row yesterday between NA and NC.

Another point, why bring a 17 yo when you are chasing a game and take off the best midfielder of the day, im sorry but ward-prowse is not going to change the game in our favour is he?

Agree1 Disagree0

I think we have a right wing in puncheon in pre season and against man city he worked really hard and played well. Cb I agree needed one for a while. Gk I think we re good gazzaniga was again great in pre season and would like To see more. I would say we need a lw and yesterday everything went down the right and would end up with Clyne having no one to pass to or nothing at all. All I all ramerez so we have the option to go down the middle, a pacy left wing to replace Lallana now playing in the middle, and it wouldnt hurt anyone to get a rw in competition with punch.
