With Southampton and Burnley apparently agreeing a fee of around 7 million, does everyone honestly think that he is this much better than mcleary, who went to reading for nowt? Both stand outs for their respective championship clubs last season.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

Far better than McLeary but think £7m is a big punt to find out if he's good enough for the Prem. For that money, I'd expect better. I hope he proves me wrong.

Agree3 Disagree1

We gave seen before that cortese doesn't pay over the odds for players, I'm sure we'll find out whether he was worth it when he plays

Agree0 Disagree1

Your comparing a 25 year old winger at the end of his contract with a 22 year old striker and huge potential. We have been monitoring him for min 12 mos and paid what was required to get our man. Well done Cortese.

Agree6 Disagree1

Everyone seem to forget that the price depends on contrcts etc not jus what you think thier worth, im sure mcleary would have been an extra couple of million if his remaining contract was longer

Here's a wee interesting note for all you deluded saints fans thinking you have a bigger club than Celtic......

In 2003 Celtic were estimated to have a fan base of nine million people, including one million in the USA and Canada. There are over 160 Celtic Supporters Clubs in over 20 countries around the world. In 2009 marketing agency, Sports Revolution estimated that there were 7 million Celtic fans in Japan.

In 2003, an estimated 80,000 Celtic supporters, many without match tickets, travelled to Seville in Spain for the UEFA Cup Final. The club's fans subsequently received awards from UEFA and FIFA for their behaviour at the match.

In the 2010–11 season, Celtic had the highest average home attendance of any Scottish club. They also had the 12th highest average attendance out of all the football clubs in Europe.

In arch 1994, Fergus McCann turned Celtic into a PLC, resulting in the most successful share issue in British football history.

In May 2012, Celtic were rated 37th in Brand Finance's annual valuation of the world's biggest football clubs. Celtic's brand was valued at $64 million, $15 million more than the previous year. It was the first time a Scottish club had been ranked in the top 50. Matt Hannagan, Sports Brand Valuation Analyst at Brand Finance, said that Celtic were contstrained by the amount of money they got from the SPL and that if they were in the Premiership then, due to their large fan base, could be in the top 10 clubs in the world.I hope this clears up some misguided and ill-judged comparisons

Who else are people in scotland suupposed to suppotrt, the rest of the clubs are as big as accrington stanley...

Agree8 Disagree8

Still not in the premiership!

Agree5 Disagree3

It was never a question of bigger club. It's just a question of better club.

Would rather play in the prem and have a chance to become a big club in the prem than languish in Scotland for eternity. The only reason Celtic have big support is because they are the only team in Scotland, the same can be said for any country with only a couple decent teams in like Ajax in Netherlands, Benfica/Sporting in Portugal, Olympiakos/Panathinikos in Greece, CSKA in Russia. The list is endless. I'd rather have the chance to become a decent team in a globally recognised league than an average team in a carp league like all those teams mentioned above.

Agree8 Disagree8

Quoting the opinion of one individual doesn't prove anything.

You could say that about anything, like if you moved Africans to Britain they would do better for themselves. Truth is the money and success of the prem was built by premiership clubs, if you are such a great club then go and build that kind of wealth and success in a league yourselves instead of using our success as an excuse as to why you aren't as big or successful as English clubs.

Agree5 Disagree7

Sorry Taco but its boring to Saints fans, the vast majority of whom don't think we're bigger than Celtic. It's amusing, however, how you are now wound up by the 'minnows' from down South. How the mighty have fallen.

Agree6 Disagree6

Watching Scotish football is on a par with watching Mickey Mouse' Clubhouse! Hope this clears things up!

Agree6 Disagree6

A lot of bored fans. Millions of idiots glory hunting, what's new? 99% of our fans are home grown the way it should be. We aren't bigger than Celtic but we are a better club all round. Enjoy your walk to the title this year. zzZzzZzzZzzzZzzZzzZ

Agree6 Disagree6

Why are you the better club all round? in what capacity exactly?

Agree4 Disagree3

Ha ha a better club. Don't make me laugh your a joke club who are lucky to still be in existence. What exactly has your club ever achieved, absolutely nothing. There is a reason why players pick Celtic over a team like Southampton and its nothing to do with what league they're in. More than half the Celtic team would get into your squad easily yet only Lambert would make Celtic's first team. Take money out of the EPL and it is nothing, simple

Agree4 Disagree5

"Reasons why players pick Celtic over a team like Southampton"

Give an example where a player has explicitly chosen Celtic over Southampton? There are no examples. Don't make silly statements.

"Take money out of the EPL and it is nothing"

Pretty sure if you take money out of any league it becomes nothing. The EPL has the money it does because the teams involved have worked to generate interest and money. If Celtic are such a big, successful club then why not get off your backsides and work to create an interesting league that is globally admired and draws in huge finances? You can't deny English clubs of the EPL money and complain about it, because English clubs are the ones that have created the interest and pool of wealth that they now feed off. It's like taking trophies away from clubs and then saying they have achieved nothing.

Bore off with your irrelevant club and stop moaning that English clubs are richer. English clubs are richer through their own merits and efforts in the past that have built the biggest and best league in the world. FACT.

Agree5 Disagree5

Eh? In my capacity as a Saints fan, silly. Ain't your local team the best? Unless, of course, you live in Japan like most of your fans. Didn't know this until i read your post. Perhaps you should relocate to Tokyo to be closer to your fan base and join the JPL (?). Gotta be more exciting than the SPL.

Agree4 Disagree5

How is SFC better than Celtic...

- Saints are in the best league in the world / Celtic in a laughable very poor standard league

- Southampton have the 2nd best youth academy in the world, behind only Barcalona (independent reports) / What world class player has come through Celtic's academy?

- Good weather and affluent location / Gloomy smack-head infested piss hole

- Local real fan base / Japanese, Irish, USA and half of Scotland fan base?

- Great young manager emphasizing total football / ugly ginger thug

- Real ambition and excitement / zzZzzZzzzZzzZz

- Saints would play Celtic off the park. Lallana has more skill in his little finger than the entire Celtic squad. Lambert is a real goal scorer, Hooper scores against pub league teams. Celtic made a right balls-up letting Hooiveld go, sure you do not have a defender to match him. See for yourself next season on Match of the day when you can see some proper football.

Agree3 Disagree3

^ Very funny mate. Nice one

Agree2 Disagree2

WTF don't you have something better to do like look at the rumours surrounding your own team oh wait there all in englands pub leagues instead of just protesting that Celtic are better when they clearly do t know a good plYer when they see one in hoovield

Where's all this nonsense about hooper saying he wants to quit celtic coming from??
because from what i can gather in his interviews, in the press and on radio, all he has stated is that he loves playing in glasgow and is looking forward to the champions league...not once has he ever said he wishes to leave, and if he does, celtic probably wont let him go for less than £8m

Believable5 Unbelievable2

There were media reports that he was considering his future due to non selection for the England squad. Wonder if he will one day watch Rodriguez play in a World Cup?
