Unable to see the game today. Is Oreo a good replacement for vic IF he goes. (Not suggesting he will go before I get shot down by any who feel I am a doom monger!)

Oriol was very very solid today. If he played like this consistently (which I think he would do) then we'd barely notice the difference

Romeu was fantastic today, let nothing by him, he was strong, good on the ball, great passing and won everything in the air.

Why are some saints fans so happy that we make good profit on selling our top players? It's not like the board are investing all or most of the money back into the team, why should we get excited because the owner is just getting richer?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

31 Aug 2015 01:42:39
Because they are making the club stable, a sustainable business and with the ambition for a major trophy within 5 years. Some fans seriously need to get a grip and understand the plan for "the Southampton way". Even research it for some of you. Seriously. Respect where we were and where we want to head. Without doing a pompey.

Agree1 Disagree4

31 Aug 2015 20:17:24
So surely we should be stable by now so we should be making a big step forward in making stronger replacements and upping the wages? Not sure on how much we have made after selling our best assets and rebuilding the squad but must be way over 50/70 million + tv money + league position money + ticket sales?

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 21:29:35
There's thousands of hidden costs that fans, especially the ones on here and Twitter don't seem to realise

We don't make the whole of the transfer fee from selling a player. There's a 2.5% fee that goes to the FA, if they don't hand in a transfer request there's the 'loyalty bonuses' (usually a percentage of their guaranteed wages) any fees that are owed to clubs.

Take Lallana for example, most are like "we made £23 million why haven't we spent that waaahhhh". We had to give 600k to the FA, his loyalty bonus (which was high as he'd just signed a new contract and despite what a lot believe he didn't hand in a request) and 5.75m to Bournemouth, so that 23 million in reality was probably less than 15 million. The same goes for the rest of the transfers, that 80 million becomes nearer 50 million, which we spent rebuilding the squad.

Fans don't seem to count bills either, every bill you pay the club has to pay on a much larger scale.

We have one of the lowest ticket incomes in the league, lowest sponsor and last season made no income from a kit manufacturer.

On top of that there's the financial fair play, we were aiming to be in the Europa cup, and thus would have had to comply with their Financial fair play rules which are far tighter than the premierships (max €30 million loss over 3 years instead of £100 million)

So yes in reality KL may have 5 billion in the bank but the amount of 'liquid' funds the club has is much much lower than everyone believes.

Why on here or Twitter?

Agree0 Disagree0

01 Sep 2015 20:18:36
Because barring a few sensible ones on here and Twitter everyone not only thinks the club can go out and blow huge amounts of money but expects it and then they moan, blame the board and scream asset stripping if we haven't spent every penny they think the club has.

The point is, things are a lot more complicated than "we made this much money from this, let's spend it"

suggesting Wanyama for £18 million plus Lamela on loan. make it £15 million and Lamela on a permanent basis and that would be a good deal. If Big Vic doesn't like Southampton.Bugger Off. we will manage without you!
Lamela is a quality guy, think he was £30 million but not been given a chance, RK could get him firing I believe.
Good game today
Tadic, Mane, Romeu and Pelle just fantastic, I think Pelle is total class. Ward-Prowse has a very good game. it was a stunning save on his second minute free kick. Jay starting to show some of his old tricks. by Christmas he will score 6/7 goals and be back to something like his old best. just more game time and a little more pace. but an excellent player. Fonte solid. Targett getting better, just shy of a little pace.
Yoshida. too many unforced errors, Davis tries hard but he craps himself as soon as he see's the goal looming. why? Such a shame because he has a great engine.
Anyway. we have Ryan Bertrand and Classie getting closer. looking good!
RK is the glue. what a manager!

So apparently this is an offer Tottenham are actually making!

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 22:10:39
As far as I'm aware, clubs can't have more than two domestic loans per season, and in that respect, Saints are full with Stekelenberg and Caulker.

So, if that's a serious offer, it's a non-starter.

Charlie Austin to Southampton? Think pelle could do with the help! got to be worth it?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

31 Aug 2015 01:44:27
Austin is not needed.

Agree2 Disagree1

31 Aug 2015 06:29:23
What would buying Austin accomplish?

Firstly, he's not good enough, yeah he scored a few last season but he won't ever do that consistently, remember when everyone had that fetish over Ings? Yeah.

Secondly, he's the same type of striker as Pelle, if teams specifically mark Pelle out of a game bringing on Austin won't make a damn bit of difference and vice versa.

Lastly, he's too expensive, for the 10-15 million qpr want for a striker with a notoriously dodgy knee we could get someone with champions league experience and still have change left over.

It's time for everyone to put the pictures of Austin down and stick the KY jelly and tissues back in the drawer they came from.

If its true that Wanyama has caused a storm because his club has refused to sell him, then this shows an incredible amount of disrespect not only to the club, but to the supporters, and his teammates at a time when we are needing everyone to pull together.
I think he needs the Spider treatment to help him re-focus on what he is getting paid for which is playing football, not sulking like a big baby.
No suprise that it is the spuds causing unrest in another of our players (aka Spider) and of course Berahino at WBA.
Give them the tablet Les and for gods sake let's get rid of our "selling club" tag.

Good win today I know it was against 10 man Norwich but at times we looked like a proper team no more route one football we used the wings and built yhe play and got results mane played his ass off making the plays a good solid result.

I hear that wanyama has said he's played his last game for saints so he can force a move to the spuds well I think its time a team made a stand against this so called player power if a player signs a contract he should honour it and if he tries to force a move then he should sit in the u21 for the rest of his contact. Players have no honour anymore saints are prepared to wait for celtic to get knocked out of cl we didn't ask vvk to force a move like the spuds have poch is a thief poaching not only players but backroom staff and agents saints board need to make a stand not only for our club but for the sake of football as a whole.

I always wonder why we never hear from the PFA when the likes of Wanyama and Berahino effectively go on strike to try and force through a transfer - or threaten to go on strike, like Lallana and Lovren. If their clubs refused to pay their wages, as per the agreed contracts, the PFA would be all over it like a tramp on chips.

Celtic fan here:
Van Dyke is a class player, and for £11.5m he is well worth it. Scores goals and is more than happy to stride up the park and take a shot, as for free kicks( he can hit them along with the best)
Good luck with your season.
We will try and have another player for you next year.hahaha

He is a defender. Bombing up the pitch, free kicks.

30 Aug 2015 19:14:41
esso14: He is a defender, but loves running the ball , and yes he can hit a free kick. Take a look on youtube, there will be few players in your team that can take a free kick better than him .

I have a suspicion VVD could frequently be playing DM for Saints.

Ideally, I would like to see a further CB signed and then Victor told he has to fight for his place otherwise he can sit out the season. See who would want him then!

Agree2 Disagree0

31 Aug 2015 01:49:14
My point was he is a CB. I want to hear about his positioning, leadership, tackling, strength in the air. Not his desire to trot halfway up the pitch.
The free kick side of his game is needed.

Four at the back, passing the ball around with pace and purpose, not a hoof in sight = 3 points.

Who knew?

Obviously it helps to play 11 vs 10 against a Championship side, but the overall improvement in the quality of football was clear from the first whistle.

Why, oh, why didn't they play like this on Thursday? They still might not have won - that's life - but THIS is the Saints way. This is how we play.

Thought Romeu was outstanding. He played his tactical role to perfection. And how nice it was to see Tadic engaged and putting in a shift. Makes a huge difference.

We're not marching on, but baby steps are a start.

Real character from Targett. A difficult month for the lad, probably too many games in a short period of time, but he was back to his best today.

With that sort of character and Ryan to take some of the load off him, he will be a good 'un.

As I have said in previous posts, JWP is a quality player, just lacking in confidence.
A Centre Back and an Attacking Midfielder would be nice, but maybe Gaston "half a game" Ramirez will be given a chance.
As for VW, is he Kenywne Jones in disguise?.
At least Morgan showed professionalism once he knew he wasn't going, and got himself a move to Man United by being brilliant, and his comments soon after prove that.
Regardless of who we beat on Sunday, a wins a win and boosts morale and confidence.

I'm amazed by the negativity here, funny how it doesn't disappear as quick as "sack koeman" "asset stripping". We dominated from the first minute, could have been 3-0 up within 15. People need to wake up, back the board, back the players and educate themselves just what "the Southampton way" means. Football is a business, KL is the son of business dynamo with a total worth of 5B+. Ralph Kreuger is a absolute winner, through and through. This club is in the best shape its ever been. WeMarchOn.

At the ground and, if rumours are to be believed, Big Lawrie has been saying that Wanyama has sent a message in saying he will not be returning to the ground - he's off! If that's true it's a sad indictment again of the lack of loyalty and money being the key for some players! let's himself down and his fellow players, but most of all the supporters who were very patient with him when he first arrived! We'll be better off without him but need to get someone in within the next 49 hours to replace him. Meanwhile - Come on you reds! Three points needed today!

Don't sell him, fine him, then let him rot. We have to draw the line somewhere, even if it does leave us out of pocket. We are becoming the soft touch as far as players are concerned. The board can't be bossed around by a relatively decent Kenya international, who's won sod all in the game, under the age of 25. he's got no right. If he refuses to play or train then it's breach of contract. If it's true then let him rot. It's not all about money, we need to make a statement to him and all the other mercenaries

30 Aug 2015 15:45:19
I don't give a monkeys about Wanyama he wasn't that good in fact schneiderlin made him look good.

IMO Romeu look quality today so let Wanyama play with the kids for 2 years then sod him off, Tit that he is.
Don't sell him , especially the spuds then that will send a direct message to all those that think that they are better than the club

Victor seems to have a problem with those around him-remember when we signed him and his agent trying to screw NC?
I suspect RoKo will be equally forthright with the guy and his team. It could be the lad ends up sulking and could finish his career sitting out his contract but if he decides that I suspect Saints will have that option covered. Would not be surprised to see a loan move for another DM.
