Ed!! I need a fix man. Nothing for days. Can someone at least make something up. They did for the Walcott rumour. {Ed003's Note - Ian Evatt}

Believable0 Unbelievable1

I know how you feel! Esp when you see W Ham with Carrol and Reading with Pogrebnyak with proven top class signings. W Ham will be frightening! My feel is that we are still negotiating behind the signs on Lens - I dont think Walcott is realistic but could be a bit of a smokescreen.. We do need a main pacey threat and of course one and probably 2 at C back. The guy from Rennes feels a good fit, this needs to happen this week.

Agree0 Disagree0

Just heard Leonel Messi was seen at St Mary's... Made up enough for you? In all serious St Mary's is actually once again playing host to Alexander Buttner who wants the move to Southampton to come through so is back in talks with the club after a fee was agree'd once again with Vitesse.

Agree1 Disagree0

If we were going in for Walcott (although it's almost certainly not true)...then it would be far better us spending a little more to bring in Adam Johnson from city because he has still got far more to prove as a player and
has the potential to do it. I think we will have a centre back sorted by the end of the week, maybe a winger if there's any success with Lens. Unfortunately we are in the middle of a waiting game at this stage, but im sure NA and NC are trying to negotiate a few deals behind closed doors.

On the bbc news thing it said arsenal are trying to make a move for Luke shaw! I beg of you NC and NA don't keep selling our quality youths, we have the money to keep them!

Believable3 Unbelievable1

I hope we keep Shaw and we put him in the team. The best way to keep our quality youth is to show them that they can get to the first team at Soton.. We seem to buy other people's youth! I'd like Sinclair in the squad and on the bench for example - we need more pace and I think he could be a threat..

Agree1 Disagree1

We could use him to get Walcott and then get Buttner

Agree0 Disagree3

Arsenal have made a move for him but it's been overlooked. He's not moving unless it's for the sort of money that would buy Messi, don't worry.

Agree2 Disagree0

No offence but shaw is gonna be worth 20 million in 5 years time, im certain, thats going by bales progress, one thing england lacks are good young left backs, walcott and buttner are not technically good for the business side of football

what does everyone think of the signings so far? will we stay in the premier league next season?
i was impressed by the way we played against ajax i thought we deserved to win who was everyones man of the match?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I wasn't sure until the Ajax game and de boer said the ajaxs team would be pretty much the one starting next season I think well do fine. Weve bought the right players that suit our way ie, young, determined, good attitude, and talented. My man of the matc would be Clyne he just looked by far the most effective player one the pitch. However he's a new player and teams dodn't know how we will use him, the same with de rider against reading but hopefully he will become too good to be found out.

Agree3 Disagree0

Lallana.

Agree3 Disagree1

Ward-Prowse for me

Agree2 Disagree1

Signings - we havent signed the C Backs we need which is a massive worry as have no time for new players to bed in now. Clyne is a very good player. Davis is a good player but I think this would put Ward Prowse out the team and he is one our best. We really need a pacy winger too as everyone has said. I am concerned with Lambert playing on his own upfront - he's scored bags of goals for saints but always with a partner and of course at lower levels. I think he will struggle on his own at the top level, which is showing in pre season..

Agree0 Disagree0

I think really it's got to be either Lallana or Clyne. Clyne had some great moments in that match and Lallana just looked incredible in general. Other than for Jose Fonte's error we looked like a solid European side.

Anyone watch the Ajax friendly on tv or at the ground? I have to say Ward-Prowse looked very good as did Clyne I think all we need is 2 good cb's another gk and maybe pacey right winger and we are sorted. The futures bright, the futures RED AND WHITE.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

I agree - they both did well on Saturday - if we can get Scott Dann and Ivan Ramis at CB and Craig Gordon in Goal, I think we would only need a right winger and a left back - maybe Lens (RM) and Olsson (LB)
- SaintlySpud25

Agree2 Disagree1

I'm not sure why we all rate Dann so highly, I doubt he's a Southampton target somehow I reckon he'll still be at Blackburn next season and regardless I'm not sure he'd fit the mould at Southampton. Other than that I'd agree with you but I'd much rather get Buttner than Olsson, Buttner is a top quality Defender/Winger.

Just want to know the majority opinion on Jay Rod. I was one of the many that thought we paid over the odds for an unproven player. But I have to say I am very impressed with what I have seen so far. Looks like he will be a top player for us this coming season, especially as he is versatile as a winger of striker.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

I think he and clyne have been our stand out signings so far. clyne has been in good form causing problems at the back, great pace, and moves up well too. EVEN IF Jay Rod didnt score against arsenal, he's looked very dangerous upfront. 2 very good signings!

Agree4 Disagree1

Think he was a gd signing, he made some gd tackles againts ajax playing dwn the lw, think lambert looked a bit of tho

Agree2 Disagree1

They are both top Quality players, I think if we get Jay Rod playing with Sharp upfront we should be hitting in goals even in the Premiership left, right and centre. As for Clyne, he's a very good player, great support for the winger and has a big presence in the defence.

Agree1 Disagree1

Jay Rod with Sharp.... what about Lambert? I don't think Sharp will cut it in the Prem (pardon the pun).

Agree1 Disagree1

I went to Ajax game and thought Jay rod looked very good, lambert didn't look himself, but I have no doubt he will be ready come man city and I didn't think sharpe would cut it in the prem, but recently he's playing well and look like he could step up to task :)
Summers

Agree1 Disagree0

Sharp is a lot better than you give him credit for. He can cut it (sorry the pun is awful but when one person makes it it's hard to stop) in the Premiership. I reckon Lambert may really strangely actually be becoming the weak link of the squad, I mean think about it if we get our two more Centre Backs then really Lambert looks like one of the worse players we'd have. That is a sign that Southampton are really becoming a very strong side.

Agree0 Disagree2

Your faith in our goal machine is appalling as is your sentences

Agree2 Disagree0

Fully agree. lambert is our biggest weakness pre-season. he did not get into either of the games on tour. Against Carouge he barely got a look-in .. then Sharpe replaced him at half-time and got a hat-trick.

Against Evian Lambert blazed a free-kick way over the bar (as per all of last season)

Lambert should not start against Man City on his performances so far.
The problem is that in a 4-5-1 as saints played most of pre-season, his obvious replacement is rodrigues, yet Adkins has not tried Jay up front once.

Interestingly, Lallana is taking all corners - Fox who provided a lot last season has taken none.

Agree0 Disagree0

You lot slating Lambert are reading far too much into pre-season games they are to get players match fit wait until the first 5-10 games until you judge him jeeze

Personally I feel this whole Theo Walcott rumour has been manufactured by NC & NA. Don't reckon we want him at all but it's like a two fingered salute to Arsenal who treat us like their feeder club. I can see one of two biggish names coming in over the next week or two but nothing of this magnitude. NC & NA will use the Walcott hype as a nice blanket whilst we quietly go about our business and pull off a few other surprises. Really exciting!

Believable6 Unbelievable3

I dont think that they would be so pathetic. i think its just a general rumour. they wamt shaw, southampton linked with a huge signing. arsenal also after many midfielders.....why not Walcott.

Agree0 Disagree2

I really doubt Walcott will go to Southampton and I doubt even more that Southampton will let that Shaw kid go.
