We're not signing anyone and have lost 2 players who have made 15 appearances and 3 goals between them and fans suddenly think we're gunna drop to 15th? God it's not that bad, not like Newcastle losing Cabaye is it? We've kept all our players, we have another youngster in Gallagher breaking through into the first team and we just dominated the league leader without any of our "big new signings" from the summer which was probably our performance of the season and deserved to win, think that means we can take on Fulham, keep the faith amazing how some fans are going nuts over this

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think the point mate is squad depth, this is the main concern, i'm all up for our youth BUT you need something else perhaps a plan B something mopo hasn't got, yes we outplayed arsenal for periods but we threw games away, villa/stoke/west ham/ norwich because of our finishing and defending, we have almost a very good spine of a team just needing another c/b and striker after all your team is only as good ad your strikers, if we had these 2 players I've no doubt we could Chase down 8th but as it is I feel we will get sucked in a bit to around 12th starting with a loss tomorrow

Agree0 Disagree0

We've thrown games away because wanyama has been out the team and we've had to play with 3rd choice players at times

Agree0 Disagree0

Seeing as we just drew to the league leaders (deserved to win) without Wanyama, Lambert, Ramirez and Lovren I think that shows we do have squad depth.

I´d say your a glass half-empty type!

Both those posts made me chuckle thanks

I'd say he's the 'slow' type

As sadly it sais on our official twitter there will be no signings and well it is probablly to late now for there to be one I think we just have to stck with the squad we got which is ok don't get me wrong but I would of liked a striker who is clinical but now we just have to wait till the summer and hopefully poch is smart enough to make a move for lukaku and a cb perhaps oh well in the here and now if your one of the 4/5,000 going to fulham like myself let's cheer on the boys and get a 3 points COYS.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Keeping hold of our youngsters is better than selling and buying crap like osvaldo

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 19:07:54
Saints have just tweeted there will be no more deadline day news and it's time to back the boys against Fulham. Who needs Osvaldo when we have Sam G! Coyr!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 18:18:26
Confirmed Osvaldo had left, good riddance I say, don't need to take a risk with such a volatile player, Jrod Lambert and Gallagher (and Guly) will do until Summer when we can get the right player!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Even though he was a pain in the arse/head/nose, I'll never forget his goal against City. I saw the game with a friend who's a Man. City fan and he agreed the way he skinned Kompany and others before beating Hart in the top corner was world class. Pity he's so hot-headed. At least we'll re-coup the cash we spent, should Juventus take up the option. Adios Osvaldo.

even more convinced osvaldohit fonte
to force his way out of saints
tosser

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe you should watch it again. Hart was not in goal lol. Great goal and its a shame he is such a hothead as clearly has great talent. Just another waster

Agree0 Disagree0

He will be back in the summer after it all calms down ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Where have all the "he just needs time to adjust" muppets gone?
Yeh Osvaldo might be back in the summer because Juve won't pay £15m for him or anything like that, but wait funny how we've managed to move players on now Cortese has gone? We'll take a hit on the over rated, over valued Ossie just to say goodbye. They'll be big changes at Saints this summer, Poch will leave, as will some more first team players to be replaced by cheaper academy graduates I just hope they can make the step up or we'll be looking at the Championship not Champions League xxx

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2014 17:03:36
Look our squad is thin but we can make it work, got 2 keepers in Boruc and Kelv, RB we're thin with Clyne and Chambers, CB Yoshida and Fonte are good enough with Hoiveld as cover and Lovren tweeted he'll be coming back soon, (although this is the position we lack quality of depth in) LB we have Shaw and Clyne can also play there but as we loaned out Fox I'm hoping it will be a chance to give Matt Taggart a chance, CM we have Davies, Cork, Shneiderlin, JWP, Wanyama and Reed, on the wings we have J Rod, Lallana and JWP and maybe with Punch gone permanantly we'll see Isgrove also got Guly but would rather see the others play but again hopefully Gaston is back next month maybe? Upfront we have Ricky, J Rod and Gallagher with the likes of Seager and Sinclair in the youth academy, could be worse right? We won't be signing anyone today, would rather fast-track a youth player into our starting 11 then make a desperate panic buy or random loan signing, with that squad I reckon we can finish 8th as Newcastle will drop without Cabaye playing and now Remy has a 3 match ban, I think we'll be above them in a few weeks! COYR!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If ever someone was looking through rose coloured glasses it's you mate, at best we will hang on to 9th sorry but we've not shown any real ambition to get higher. Guess cheque books run dry

Agree0 Disagree0

'I guess check books run dry' we haven't needed to sign anyone. But, I guess if you think we're no longer rich you can go support some other team doing well.

Agree0 Disagree0

Defiantly rose tinted, we will be lucky to hang on to 9th a couple more injuries could cripple us u cannot play 5/6 youngsters in the first 11, we need c/b and striker minimum, everybody is beating everyone below us and it won't take a lot to drop to 14/15th yeah we won't go down but what an anti climax of season and poss signs of things to come?

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said that man! What way to end the season Finnishing with a none event just happy to be in the league looks like Mr cortese took he's vision with him when he left us! But your wasting your time trying to talk sence to into these people there like sticks or seaside rock snap them in half and they've got Southampton written right through the middle of them! Rose tinted Tunnel vision!
Save your breath!!
We will just have to wait till the summer

Agree0 Disagree0

Why do we need to get some random last minute signing purely for the short term? Everyone is going on about having a goal machine since Osvaldo's left, pretty sure he got more bans than goals, Sam Gallagher has come in for him and looks like he could be a quality player who will put a good shift in and can score goals, he will only get better because of this and Fox and the rest out on loan or released so what? When was the last time they played for us? Not to mention everyone has been saying Taggart should be used as cover instead of him, Lovren is ahead of schedule so will be back soon, we are two players different in Fox and Osvaldo really as none of the others have made an appearnce for us this season and with that we have Gallagher and possibly Taggart who can play instead now, we will be fine you'll all see on Sunday, I'm not viewing it through tinted glasses in reality we have lost Fox and Osvaldo who haven't done much for us this season so yh I'm genuinly gutted they've gone.

Some of the comments from the fans on this forum
About everything is hunky dory we don't need any players are they blind? we have youth players yes?
But we need leaders!experienced players to mix with the young players are centre back options are nowhere near good enough and lovern out you would a least thought a cb even if it was only a loan deal! would have been on the cards in this window!
Talk about rose tinted glasses?
You would think they were on saints payroll?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

2 players have left 1 made 3 apps the other 12. Not really much to replace seeing as Gallagher can surely make as good an impact as Osvaldo and Targett can be 3rd choice Left back instead of Fox. A striker signing would be nice but its not the end the world if we don't sign anyone, its not as if we have a chance of a top 4 finish!

Agree0 Disagree0

Yoshida and Hooiveld are good enough to fill in for a few weeks. They know how the team plays, bringing in someone else would be worse for a few weeks, whilst they learn how the team plays and possibly the language too and by then Lovren will be back, so either they'll have to learn how to play with another player or we'll have signed someone to just sit on the bench and they'll be in the same spot as Forte and Barnard in a season or two, just sucking money from the club. Jesus, building a quality team takes time, we we're in league one 3 seasons ago, we aren't going to sign 10 players a season like you want. be happy we're in the top half of the prem, stop moaning.

Agree0 Disagree0

Perhaps the reason no new arrivals has to do with either lack of ambition now NC has left or MoPo still undecided to stay with us beyond end of this season, either way I think it's a big risk given that a couple more key players getting injured we will be in deep S. t.

Agree0 Disagree0

We did okay without Lovren, Osvaldo, Rickie, Wanyama and Gaston against Arsenal. Lallana even called it our best performance this season. Wanyama and Rickie are back now and Lovren is ahead of schedule.
Today is just like Christmas when everyone else is getting pesents so you want some too, well sorry son we would rather buy you the right present when we can find it for sale than somthing just for the sake of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

How is it a big risk? how will we be in deep s**t? You do don't think we can get relegated do you? Madness.

Agree0 Disagree0

Where going to be fine and we don't need transfers seems to be the flavour of the day with the masses but how many of you on this forum will hold your hands up if it all goes wrong?
I'm guessing no one right!

Agree0 Disagree0

How many of the transfer junkies are holding their hand up for Gaston Osvaldo and Forren then?
I'm guessing you will right?

Agree0 Disagree0

What's wrong with gaston?
And what's forran got to do with anything?
and as for Osvaldo you new he was always going to be a waste of time did you!
Or did you think it was a great sighning as everyone at Southampton did at the time! What's your name yoda?

Agree0 Disagree0

We never sign many players in this window do we? We didn't plan to and now we won't no a lack of ambition, sticking to the plan

Agree0 Disagree0

I always thought Osvaldo would of been a bad idea and didn't want him when the rumours started in the summer but when we got him I wasn't disappointed as obviously he is meant to be a quality player. I just didn't want a player with his directive nature in our squad due to that being one of our best strengths it is obvious that our team spirit is one of the best in the league. Blowing my own massive trumpet I was Right

Puncheon transfer on the official twitter, still nothing about Osvaldo, he hasn't moved yet and I wouldn't be surprised if he was still a southampton player tomorrow

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I don't think Osvaldo will fail the medial, and MoPo has said that Osvaldo clearly cannot play for Saints again.

Goodbye Mr Osvaldo.

The Roma fans were right all along!

Agree0 Disagree0

He was apparently spotted for a medical like 9 hours ago. still nothing about it on any official Southampton site

Is it me or have we now got one of the smallest squads in the premiership? Good job we aren't in Europe?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

31 Jan 2014 13:58:41
In our position I don't see the need to buy. 3 strikers (same as arsenal)
Safely mid table. Yosh and Jo's would be more than adequate cover. Targett will get an opportunity as will other youngsters.
Buy a couple of good players inthe summer when the World Cup is finished.

Thanks for splashing some cash Katharina even though we needed at least one new player.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Our new players are Sam Gallagher and Matt Targett and I am genuinely happy with that, very happy!

Agree0 Disagree0

We didn't though, did we? We have great players and back up (even Yoshida and Hooiveld) for a team sat 9th.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yoshida maybe Ok! and I mean (ok) cover. but Hooiveld please!
Behave yourself! and stop smoking that stuff it's no good for you? Lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Yoshida OK? he was our best CB last season, he's only made a few mistakes because he hasn't played. Yoshida and Hooiveld are probably the best back up CB outside the top 6 and that's exactly where we are, just cause you have unrealistic standards doesn't make them bad players

Agree0 Disagree0

Best cb pairing outside the Top 6!
It's official he's smoking crack!

Osvaldo, Fox, Sharp, Barnard, Forte, Lee, Puncheon and Martin ALL OUT.

It's nearly midday on deadline day and we've not signed a single player - regardless if you don't think any of that lot are good enough - with Lovren and Gaston long-term injuries we need to sort our act out and get a couple in! Youth is great but most aren't ready yet!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Osvaldo hasn't left yet. only one of the other players have played for the first team this season, them leaving is hardly reason to worry. they weren't even in the 25 so it's not like they'd have even be used in case of injuries

Agree0 Disagree0

Totally agree I'm glad I'm not the only one who can see this as a big banana skin! Now why I was not Danny's fox's biggest fan where's the left back cover coming from?
Wait for it!
Were going to use targget and clyne!
(I here the zombies start to shout!)
A right back and a kid with no first team experience??
That combined with a already weakened defence! Through injury could spell disaster in the second half of are season seeing drop like a stone!

I can't believe all the doom & gloom/panic merchants posting here. I'm sure that the implications of losing Osvaldo/Fox has been realised by MP and that they have a 'plan'. Whether the plan comes off? I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. I'm just glad that you're not involved in the management of the club - It would be a disaster!

Agree0 Disagree0

"A kid with no first team experience"

If the manager thinks Targett is good enough to step up then that's fine with me. He hasn't brought through any dudds yet has he?

Gallagher Shaw JWP etc were all kids with no first team eperience not so log ago, get with the program!
The last thing we need is someone brought in to block his development into the first team.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - there are a lot of youth team coaches around the country that rate Targett as the best prospect in the Southampton system.}

Better than shaw ed? surely not?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I am not saying I think it, just what I was told by a large number of youth coaches prior to Shaw breaking through. I regularly ask around for players that are bright sparks in youth academys, both the ones they work with and the ones their players have faced. Targett was the one whose name came up more than any other as the top talent around. It was over 20 different coaches that said he was the best they had seen, none even mentioned Shaw!}

Even England made a move and persuaded Targett to change his Nationality from Scottish, I suspect they will also try and do the same with Gallagher.
Targett could soon compete against Luke for the England left back position, so perhaps he will regrets chaning?

Agree0 Disagree0

Well that's really good news ed! Shaw was with the first team last year so maybe he wasn't playing against them (coaches teams) but that is very good to hear seeing as Shaw will be going maybe this summer but probably next summer. How long do you think we can hold onto Shaw for ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - not sure it will be much longer, Chelsea are likely to bid high in the summer.}

Not sure if its true but I was told Luke Shaw and Ashley Cole share the same agent.

Agree0 Disagree0

Looks like as Normal Southampton will be bringing no players in the January window! As per! Which is fine?
What really concerns me is teams around us strengthening
and think we will might struggle to beat the teams below us now they've had time to improve there squads?
And with are first team quite small now with all the out goings any injurys would be a big consern!

More of a question but does anybody else think Scott dann would be a good buy for us? We need cover at the back and he is better than our current cover.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Scott Danny is currently holding talks with Big Sam West Ham United who look like having built a new team during this transfer window. let's hope that our inactivity in getting either a CB or replacement striker does not come back to haunt us as we look very light in depth now and it would only take a couple more serious injuries for us to be in real trouble.
