Ed is there any positive news out their on new signings, I know people will reply with stay calm, positive or be patient, but the season starts in two weeks and the team need time gel. I know Saints try to do business the right way and keep quiet but we need those 2-3 (at least) players in within the next few days. I have had faith in the board and stayed positive and patient, but time is now running out.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed033's Note - Nothing positive as yet, the board have to get themselves straight first.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the board wanted the squad complete before the Leverkeusen game. Tick tock, tick tock

Thats a scary. Thought ed. That even now they are pontificating doesn't bode well. We need them to have their heads screwed on and singing from the same songsheet now more most other times

this is going back a few weeks and fans are starting
to ask
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON
forestsait

Agree0 Disagree0

What is going on with our board ed? They say they're not looking to sell the club yet they've only targeted loans and free transfer for the last few weeks despite banking £90m, which is what Villa are doing too as we know their owner wants to sell, so from an outsiders perspective it looks like she doesn't want invest anymore money and could be looking to sell, which is the opposite to what Krueger has said so I guess we'll see

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed033's Note - I don't know but the longer it takes to sort out, the harder it will be to stay in the Premier league.

Before all this came to the forefront, Ed001 and Ed002 did warn Southampton fans on this web site that it was going to be terrible time for Southampton fans at the start of the new season.

BTW, you can use our new Southampton team formations app to create a Southampton team

Fatdave, they forgot to mention the 70 mil we get from tv rights. Bad journalism to say the least. We are a lot better off than that.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We don't get that all in one though I don't think, I think it's spread across the season is it not?

would like to say what a tremendous tribute pompey fc have given to the fallen soldiers of world war one I know there is a lot of bad blood between saints and pompey but sometimes football can take a back seat

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed, it's a great idea!

Agree0 Disagree0

I would really like to see a better relationship between us and Pompey, what does everyone else think? Its time to move on, its quite right to say that there are more important things than football. A thought that is very poignant this week.

Agree0 Disagree0

What about an annual football match betwen Saints and Pompey supporters, to be held on Xmas eve to remember those that gave everything. Loser buys the beer!

It is not often that I can find the ability to salute the Pompey but I must do it now.

I congratulate them on the very bold and gallent tribute to the men lost in WW1 but putting the names woven into the new kit.

What a fantastic tribute to those brave men that lost their lives for this Country.

For one time only. Well done Pompey

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good sentiment indeed funky. we salute your bravery.

Totally agree, you took the words out of my mouth Funkysaint, great tribute to remember those lost

Absolutely, when you think they were probably young kids,

Roswell to sign for bleedin' Sunderland for 10 mill. Why we missing out on all this English talent?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'll be gutted if we miss out on him

Agree0 Disagree0

How many midfielders do you think we need? We've already got Spider, Cork, Wanyama, Davis, Ward-Prowse and Reed.

Agree0 Disagree0

And Taider

Agree0 Disagree0

Thats got to be right, our priorities lie elsewhere. and Rodwell crocks very easily!

Agree0 Disagree0

I reckon if he was signed we would move him to CB, as a lot of people thought that's were he would end up playing anyway, his distribution would be great and koeman likes his CB's to get forward so he could be ideal

Absolutely agree board think one loan signing let's them off the hook. But fans won't forget the rubbish they have spouted. Where are these 3 signings?? Have you got any info ed? Really hope Forster and Rodwell are among them, also really want Rojo but that's all gone quiet. I think with regards to Rodwell, could it be that Koeman wants to turn him into a CB? As we all know he likes his CB's to get forward more than Pochettino, his distribution would be great from CB too, thoughts?

If katharina Liebherr can pocket most of the money from the transfer deals this season and hang on until this present crop of youngsters can be sold off she can sell in a year or so with bags of money. this seems to be what's going on unless some of the cash is spent soon. I hope I'm wrong.

Rodwell to Sunderland. Les Read dithering leads to another one slipping through the net

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Guys we all know that we do deals under the radar.

Ryan B was done out of the blue nothing in the papers or dodgy websites just bang there you go.

We can talk about all the rumours generated by the tabloids but the fact is, only the club really know who is a target and who isn't.

Stay calm and support the Saints.

Sunderland in talks to sign Rodwell, why are we always so slow to move and sign players?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't mind missing out on rodwell as we have a load of midfield players. but where are the other signings? need centre backs, need a striker, need a right back and possibly a keeper if boruc goes. come on reed do it for the fans give us something to get happy about. only just over a week to go. so much for having all the funds at roko's disposal and so much for signing two players at the weekend. pull your finger out guys coys

If Samaras signs that will be a top top signing for the club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Couldn't agree more. We already know that Pelle will be the main striker so we need someone who is happy to play 2nd fiddle. Samaras's scoring stats could be better, but his hold-up play is excellent, and he has great pace. Good option IMO.

Agree0 Disagree0

Have you been smoking lads? He is a complete waste of space.

Agree0 Disagree0

Got some real jokers on here, either that or they know feck all about football. Samaras joins then its a statement that the board really don't give two figs for the supporters.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Armstrong, no point in signing someone like this, better to sign someone young and up and coming who would be happy to sit on the bench and develop into the first team

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2014 13:07:59
Jeez we're being linked with some utter dross at the moment. For now I'm still clutching onto the theory that they are all smokescreens and the real deals are ongoing behind the media spotlight. I hope so anyway. Less than 2 weeks till the season starts and being linked with the likes of Samaras doesn't inspire confidence.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

04 Aug 2014 12:41:20
Is it me or has it all gone a bit quiet again in terms of signings. Apart from the occasional loan deal I'm not hearing much. Have we left it too late? I know the window does not shut until September but it wouldve been nice to see a couple more player before the season starts

Posted on here ages ago that the ambition has gone with cortese kl doesn't want to push on to the next level as it will cost think about it we would need a new stadium to bring in the revenue y would she want to spend that sorta money when sms is packed out every week already and she can just sit at home and have regular money coming in we'll b lucky to see 20 million of the transfer money reinvested the signings will b shoddy bodge job loans to fill gaps and by the time Uv all realised this we will b going down and will b too late to do anything

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just saying, we have already spent more than £20 million on Tadic and Pelle.

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2014 13:23:18
Cortese's ambition was to get to Champions League "at all costs". Liebherr is treating this as a business where the sort of money he wanted to spend for that sort of gamble is not good business; it is just too risky.

St Mary's is not packed out every week: the average attendance in 2003, when we last did well in the PL, was higher than our average attendance last season by 1000 seats.

Sadly, St Marys is not situation in a good accessible position. Even though all the stands, apart from Itchen, can have another level added to them, bringing total capacity up another 18,000 potentially, the surrounding area cannot accommodate that amount of people: more car parking and potentially train station access would be required. It is just too much money for that investment as the 18,000 extra seats does not give the return to make it viable.

If we were to increase capacity, that would mean a different site, and investment of about £60m. Given St Marys does not sell-out, that £60m would also not get the investment return required to make it viable.

Liebherr cannot pocket the money made on the players. Also having the funds in the bank rather than in the assets (players) does not make the business good for sale; it makes it worth less than what it could be. So no KL won't be selling the club; not any time soon anyway.

Money will be put on the signings, but there is no point in wasting it on players that could potentially flop (see Tottenham). Osvaldo would have been better loaned in instead of forking out £15m.

The aim is to get into Champions League and get a share of the €909m pot that was distributed to the participating teams. That makes the business a much better prospect for selling, with the commercial backing and sponsorship that comes with that, but right now it is not even European-bound.

Time is of the essence now. If we keep making £92m on player sales every year that is good business, especially on £9m investment on those players. Doing that for the next few years to then have enough money to justify stadium expansion and top-player signings for Champions League is probably going to be the way of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think u will find that as she has no board of directors to answer to she can do as she pleases and I know we have spent 20 million but they surely players koeman wanted to buy from his original transfer budget before players were sold

Agree0 Disagree0

04 Aug 2014 16:42:23
Liebherr is non-executive chairman despite being the owner. Ralph Krueger is the chairman. Gareth Rogers and Les Reed are part of the club's board as well. Liebherr even has a board of directors for the holding company, of which Gareth Rogers and Hans Hofstetter are part of. So no she doesn't just do as she pleases.

Those players were part of the original budget most likely yes as they have been completed first. But the loss of other players who didn't want to stay came later, so now they are working on those signings to replace them. These things take time sadly, especially since clubs know we have the money and want to inflate prices on their players.

Should have built at Stoneham

Agree0 Disagree0

Saint90. It is nice to see some people talking sense on this site. I am unhappy that the squad is a little thin and things not going as fast as I would want, however we Must trust in the board and be aware that Ffp has a massive say in who we can bring to the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

05 Aug 2014 11:30:03
Patience is a virtue. Saints fans need a hell of a lot of it. I believe the board is working hard but the other clubs are playing hard ball.

It may be the case that clubs at the end of the window finally given in, or we say too late you had an offer and you left it. The art of negotiation is important, but it does put everyone on edge.

For example, Celtic are more than likely going to be knocked out of the CL qualifiers tonight. That potentially means the deals there are on again. While there is a chance of them going through though they will stay stubborn.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Stoneham plan would only allow for a 25,000 seater stadium, the local council wouldn't let them build it bigger. The Rose Bowl site would have been ideal, annoying that cricket can sort of do what it wants
