I'm surprised Frank Rijkaard's name hasn't been mentioned for the Saints managers job, he's working currently as an advisor and could be looking to get back into management day to day. Thoughts?

Id be very surprised of Koeman is appointed , I question whether the club would have been able to satisfy him as to the retention of the current squad or the provision of an adequate transfer budget. All the signs so far suggest that these issues have been the cause of all the disruption, with both Cortese and Poch leaving as a result. Sad days for us saints fans. Why would we be linked with Magath at this stage if Koeman was going to be appointed? doesn't add up. Magath would be a better prospect for a tight-fisted board, he will work with whatever scraps you throw him , so long as you pay his wages. i'm really pissed off with KL, Reed and Krueger.Dont trust any of them.

Montescristosaint, the board have said they want to push on for European football and the rumour is that the new manager will have a 50m budget to work with so I don't think a lack of funds or ambition is the issue

Agree0 Disagree0

Poch and Cortese didn't leave over ambition, Cortese left over a control issue, he was unhappy with Leibherr wanting to get more in terms of control over the club she owned so he left. As for Pochettino, he clearly wanted the larger amount of money and the 'bigger' club.

This board seems to have ambitions, but it is unclear exactly what they plan to do to achieve them. But a supposed large transfer budget is going to be available for the new manager and any player sales will just add to that figure. So it doesn't seem, at least in the short term, that this board is looking to cash in.

I'm still unsure about the future. I'm most definitely not a doom and gloom merchant but the board have a lot to prove over the next few weeks. I really do think and hope we are getting the manager sorted out soon.
I think, looking at Koemans history he shows potential of being a fantastic manager and I cannot see why he wouldn't come to us. Especially if the board are giving out as much money as has been suggested.
I would have thought we would be looking to stay in the premiership rather than pushing inwards. At least for the next year or two.

So Rickie's gone. I'm sure we're all gutted as he will be a huge miss, plus sure we all hoped he would hang up his boots in a saints shirt. For me, he's a legend in any case, I just hope the move doesn't backfire. the critics will be out for him again, I just hope that yet again he can prove them all wrong and finish the fairy-tale with lifting the title.

Lallana has really disappointed me. The media MAY be blowing it out of proportion but Lallana's silence is deafening. Pretty disgusted actually as he should understand what this World Cup means to us. Again a dark cloud has come over us, yet our captain is setting no example at all. Tricky for the board if he is stamping his feet. Surely for our most creative player and captain in his prime, we should be commanding a fee of £25 - £30m but without the ludicrous add-ons, especially with Bournemouth getting 25%.

Shaw may be off, but if so it would be a good deal for saints. Plus he is acting far more maturely than our supposed loyal captain. I expect we can get a very capable replacement and if Chicarito is part of the deal, I'd be very happy. Plus Matty Targett is apparently the next superstar in the line.

As for our other players Lovren, Clyne, Schneiderlin etc etc etc etc, I hope we can keep them. With a good manager appointment and funds to spend, we may well actually be a force again next season.

Whoever goes, for me Rickie will be the biggest miss, not just for goals but primarily for all the build up play he was central to. We will need to adapt to another style I think, hopefully with more pace up front.

Let's face it, this is all new to us. We've had our stars, but have never had a squad full of sought-after talent. How dare saints try and crash the top 6 table anyway. It's been a rollercoaster since the end of the season but I have to say I'm actually feeling a small sense of optimism now. I don't think the board have been deceitful or greedy. I think they have done everything right actually. Whatever deal comes through I'm sure will be for the good of the club. It's the media selling our players and we can't help bids coming through. They tried to keep Poch. They couldn't deny Lambert. I feel a bit annoyed that a lot of people have been so quick to slag off KL and the board. I can understand some disappointment, but that's football. Fact is we would sink very fast without KL - there will not be a queue of billionaires or Cortese come charging to the rescue.

Now if the word is true and a good manager is appointed and given funds, happy days. Let's get behind the saints and break this negativity.

Good post. Matty Targett is indeed next in line and I understand from friends on the inside he is rated better than shaw hence this would suite. plus clyne can play left back. Totally agree about Lallana but I am sorry to say it is not being blown out of proportion with one person claiming he is actually trying to gather support from within.

So apparently Koeman was seen in Heathrow yesterday, if he is to be our next manager surely he has to try and bring Stefan De Vrij and Graziano Pelle with him. We Need another CB and are in Dire need of 2 Strikers. De Vrij is more the class we should be trying to poach rather than Caulker. Imagine that CB pairing with Lovren.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Imagine if out back up to De Vrij and Lovren is Caulker, Fonte and Yoshida (if he stays). considerably better than last season. And while we are at it let's add Forster as back up/competition for Artur.

Agree0 Disagree0

Martins-Indi as a replacement for Shaw if he goes?

Agree0 Disagree0

We need a new number one keeper in my opinion Arthur great shot stopper but is also a liability

Agree0 Disagree0

If Shaw goes we have Matty Taggert

"Chances Koeman after draw with Southampton quickly knocks at Feyenoord for Pelle '

June 4, 2014

According to the Algemeen Dagblad is likely that Ronald Koeman, if indeed he is the head coach will report at Feyenoord. Quickly at Southampton, According to the newspaper Rotterdam Koeman would put the arrival of Graziano Pelle to the Premier League club. His sentences in that case Feyenoord requests according to the AD whopping 10 million euros for the 28-year-old striker.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Pelle will be 29 next month. £10m for a 29 year old with little resale value is the sort of gamble that's already burned them with Osvaldo (and still continues to do so).

For what it's worth, Pelle looks an ideal replacement for Lambert - not very quick or mobile, but great in the air, finishes with power off both sides, very foxy in the boxy.

Loads of goals in Dutch football, but that doesn't always translate well to the PL. Will he be another Bony or an Altidore?

Agree0 Disagree0

Would prefer Guidetti then Pelle myself. give gametime he could be a perfect lambert replacement. That being we get the little pea too i'd be very happy

I'd say 10m euros which is £8m is great value for a 29 year old striker that has scored 50 league goals in 57 games. Still has 5 years left, he is 6'4 so similar to lambert. He could potentially be an upgrade on Lambert.

Agree0 Disagree0

Great points qwertyell! I believe that he's more likely to perform like Bony, 26 goal in 33 games with 6 assists this season which is pretty similar to Bony's performance data in the 12/13 season of 37 goals in 36 games with 10 assists.

Overall Bony has been the better player stay wise over the past 3 seasons although Pellé is on top form and has been a consistent top scorer for two seasons now. Both would be great but Bony could be more successful all be it at at least double Pellé's price.

Also not so confident about Guidetti, Gallagher is better than him and has a better record at 18. Personally I don't rate Guidetti.

Saints should look into some of the following players who have either been relegated or released by there clubs. Think we Marshall, Caulker & Redmond would fit the bill perfectly

David Marshall
Brede Hangeland
Martin Olsson
Stephen Caulker
Odil Ahmedov from relegated Anzhi
Sebastien Bassong
Jack-Colback – Released
Nathan Redmond
Alvaro Vadillo relegated Real Betis

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Redmond's a no brainer (depending on the asking price). Saints lack pace and guile in the wide forward areas - especially with Rodriguez injured.

He's a talented kid who could become a fine player with the right guidance.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the time to rejoice/worry will be when it all goes quiet, like in the eye of the storm?
keep the faith, its out of our hands anyway.

I see that there is quite a bit of speculation as to what Liverpools bid for Lallana actually was .Im told that much of the reported bid of 25m is taken up with add ons , none realistic, and also 25% is due to Bournemouth, so that Saints would end up with just 15 million. Hardly a deal that would interest the Saints all that much.No wonder it has not been accepted,Liverpool need to put their money where their mouth is and stop getting journos to destabilize our players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Redmond would be a great signing.

Ed's, have you got any info regarding a new manager?

I see there is a lot of speculation regarding Koeman but how much of it is actually true.
