Think you don't know football if that's what you think. He was immense on an atrocious pitch

I never said he had a bad game. He just presses too much for a CB. Maintaining the second best defensive record in the league won't be possible if your CB comes forward and gets caught out. He got caught tonight against Qarabag but had the quality to recover, but he won't fare so well against top PL teams. He is a great player I never meant to upset anybody. Well done on getting further in the CL!

There's definite areas of his game needed to be improved, those bursts forward he makes are so unorthodox sometimes they work brilliantly, and other times they don't, in our league that's when you get caught out most of the time. So if he does end up joining Saints hopefully Koeman can educate him further on this aspect.

Lets give the transfer speculation a break please and let ROKO concentrate on tomorrow's and Sundays game plus the up and coming PL fixtures.

We should know by now SFC keep things close to their chest . Leave them be . They will deliver .

Watching the Celtic Qarabag game and if we are to sign Van Dijk i'm concerned. He's very prone to randomly gunning forward and that won't fly in the PL. If Koeman can calm him down and stop him pressing forward he could be promising, but if he's the planned cover for Toby then I think he will disappoint. What do you guys think?

Everybody knows my feelings about VVD as a centre half and to me he is nothing like Toby who was class . Such a shame we never kept him , still a chance we could get Abdennour who is a quality player . However we probably are not on the top of his list of clubs to move to .

Been away for the last 3 weeks with no wifi so haven't been able to follow the preseason. How well did saints play in the Dutch games and against espanyol and did any players stand out?

There's been a few players who've looked very good.

The team was a little disappointing in the 45 min friendlies in Austria but they'd only played one game before then. In the Dutch friendlies and the Europa cup game though we were different class. Dutch teams aren't bad, especially feyenoord and Vitesse but apart from a few small patches the team completely bossed those games

Didn't see the espanyol game so I'll leave that for someone else

Anyway, about the players
Gazzaniga looked good against Groningen (I think it was that game he played).
Soares has stood out all pre season, looks better than Clyne already.
Tadic looks like he's back to the player he was before Xmas.
J-Rod's severely lacking fitness but still banging them in, looks promising for when he's fully fit.
Wanyama has been bossing games.
Stekelenburg hasn't needed to do much but pulled out a game changing save vs Vitesse.
Mane looks like he's starting this season like he finished last.

There's been no real surprises, no ones turned into Messi over the summer but the team looks as good as ever

I went to the Espanyol game, Koeman wasn't too impressed by the overall performance judging by his post-match interview.

But as for the match from a fan's point of view, it probably represented the most typical of pre-season friendlies you can get. Neither team went for the others jugular, although a few Espanyol players were a bit rugged with their tackling. I remember Mane getting chopped down by Hector Moreno, a poor challenge but the type you see every week in the league.

Not really the type of match you can judge any player's performance on, but aside from the usual starters Caulker seemed steady enough in his first game, Juanmi showed his attacking intent, and Jay Rod scored a wonderful goal to mark his return at St Marys.

Espanyol game was a bit of a damp squib. Nobody wanted to over exert themselves or risk getting an injury. Harrison Reed was probably the best player on the day and Yosh did well when he came on. Caulker had a decent game on his first game for Saints and JRod scored a cracker.

Faily mail reporting we've opened contact talks with wanyama. Let's hope it goes smoothly

I'd be amazed if he signs a new deal. He and his agent know he's locked in for a big transfer in the summer if he just gets his head down and has a solid season again. Saints won't even be able to price him out of the range of the likes of Spurs or tightwad Wenger once his contract has a year to run on it.

Wanyama, like Clyne before him, holds all the aces here. He'll be gone at the end of the season for less than £15m.

Qwerty. I'm worried that you're probably right. If we could get him on a new contract with a 20-25 mill buyout? I would hope that would tempt him. but like you said, he holds the aces here, and has stated before how he'd like to go to arsenal :( I live in hope, but not overly confident
