Jinty Caenepeel - Belgian International. RM
Nikola Zivotic - Austrian International. ST
Stefan Velkov - Bulgarian International. CB
Tomas Vestenicky - Slovakian International. ST

All are under 20, under 1 million in worth and have huge potential. Caenepeel and Velkov have had interest from top European clubs and look very promising. They all also play the 4-2-3-1 formation.

Shinji Kagawa could be the missing link

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I always did fancy him a saints player

Agree0 Disagree0

True. Unfortunately he seems to be playing more frequently as of late. And I reckon BVB would be the most likely move if something happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can we get real? Kagawa? Why not see if Ronaldo will take a pay cut to take up a new challenge of getting us in the Champions League? Rome was built brick by brick.

I think both Clyne and Shaw are both fantastic players. But why are we relying on them alone as wing-backs to give us some width to our play?

Wing-backs are great to use sometimes but not all the time as it gets a bit pradictable an can leave us wide open to pacey wingers on the counter.

When they stop bombing forward and stay back then we lose all width and try and play in through the middle with little or no success.

Solution would be Tom Ince but everyone just says MoPo doesn't play with pacey wingers, well why not? It would be good just to give us a different option now and again, and the other team a different problem to face.
We are predictable right now and Aston Villa and Chelsea both spotted our weakness, quick long ball over the top into the space left by our wing-backs to a pacey winger that can shoot, just have a go.

Have you watched Barca play? Pacey wingers-NO!

We will make mistakes getting MP style right, but I certainly don't think he will change it. If the players can't play his style, much more likely that the players concerned will be changed.

Sanchez, Pedro and Tello are all wingers. Maybe you should watch a bit more of la liga and see just how wide Barca do play. Theses players all have ago at the full backs a lot. I think the whole point is the lack of pace. But it was nice to see a Change against villa all be it a small one

Agree0 Disagree0

Barca don't have pacey wingers? Sanchez, Messi, Neymar are all slow are they? Wouldn't say so

Agree0 Disagree0

Poch left Espanyol in a mess, so much for changing the players to fit his style! Barca have some of the most gifted players to walk this earth and almost ever player on the planet would love to play for Barca.
We are miles of Barca as a club or team. Financially we can't go and buy tremendously gifted players to fit our style, sometimes a coach has to develop a style to suit the players at his disposal.
We're doing pretty well this season but it does look like we might now need a plan B as well as plan A. Mourinho has plan C and D etc. I thought at least Poch tried being positive last night chasing the game, but then it turned out injuries forced his hand.
Top half this season is progress for me, hope Cortese keeps faith, unless he's already looking at the next step?

Saint Real

Agree0 Disagree0

Poch may have left Espanyol in a mess, but he had to seel his best players every year.

and regarding the substitutions last night, the Osvaldo substitution in the first half was not relating to any injury.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is no longer acceptable to have just one style of play you have to be able to change things around and give the other team a different problem to tackle, let's face it we are getting predictable with every long ball team now taking points off us.

Man City will bring on pace up front in the second half tomorrow and pass quickly down the channels. Why not its worked for everyone else who has tried it.

While we smack our heads against the same brick wall time and time again. Predictable.

Agree0 Disagree0

OMG we're going to be relegated!
Cheer up we're not in division one and we're way better than the bottom five with me in goal!

Ah back to reality at last!

We are no where near being a top 4 side, not even close. Give it a year or two and we should be a lot closer but honestly, we have one good starting eleven and they are beginning to find it difficult to keep up this frantic early pace.
Could you imagine Gazza or Kelvin playing for a top four side (in the championship)?

Without more recruits in Jan that are capable of being rotated into the team our first team players will be burnt out by Feb.
Being able to rotate the squad is fundamental to being successful over the length of a season.
We keep hearing that every member of the squad is important but in practice they are only being used in emergencies and that means they are not good enough.
Add in an extra 20 to 30 games a season with cup runs and Europe and you can see how far we still have to climb.
Top four sides have Aguero, Suarez, Eto they can even loan out Lukaku. We are on the right track but we still have mountains to climb, many players to off load and a good few to sign.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agree with the back to reality post, but don't expect to see a good few to sign. Whilst it may be an option it would be against the policy of in house development so I believe there will be a careful balance of the two, even if that takes a little longer.

You can be sure that Don Cortese is playing a long game for this 'project'.

And all good projects will have milestones. Our first milestone was to stay up, next is likely to be top half for a couple of seasons, then top quarter and challenging for the Champions League.

If the results come early, all well and good, however, the game plan will certainly cover a number of seasons. A five-year-plan (maybe less) if you like.

So, my friends, patience. Patience while the squad gets built and we do finally become a top four team. but not just yet. Not yet.

Handle the pain of losses like on Wednesday - for the good times will surely come.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we have possibly two more seasons before we qualify for Europe, or we will risk losing our best players to teams who have.

At that time players like Luke Shaw will again be in contract negotiation and looking to their future.
To reach this goal I think we do have to strengthen our squad probably every transfer window, one player at a time gradual improvement and integration, along with introducing graduates from the academy.
We clearly cannot do it with the players we have right now.
Plus most of the top 6 clubs in the BPL will be strengthening even if we don't.
Im expecting Lambert and Lallana to be the next ones on the injury list if we can't rotate the squad we have got, not being negative but it happens every year.

I think we need a new keeper, I have faith in Gazzaniga but there are some tough games coming and I don't think he'll be able to shine under this kind of pressure.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Currently we're down to our 3rd choice keeper, and I can't see many teams coping too well with that situation.

The problem is that Kelvin looks shaky, and coming to the end of his career, and Gazza needs more time and experience.

It's fair to say that our squad is being tested at the moment.
