well a lot of people are saying we're to announce a signing this weekend so must have some substance to it, as Cortese has been in Italy that narrows it down a bit, hopefully Lamela or Astori? or both?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Gonna be ambitious and say insigne as we had scouts at the u21s game tonight maybe just monitoring his abilities. Haha I don't have a clue in all fairness but Astori seems the most likely at the moment.

Agree0 Disagree0

Could also be naingollan

Agree0 Disagree0

Astori probably. Doubt we'd even get a sniff at Lamela for several reasons.

1) Other much bigger AND higher spending clubs are interested (Man City included);

2) He's at a much bigger club already (unlike Ramirez who was at Bologna);

3) He's got complicated 3rd party ownership issues which we wouldn't get wrapped up in.

Only real link with him is that he's the type of player we sign and Cortese happens to be in Italy.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we do have a cnace of lamela personally we've got the cash and it seems man city have got bigger names in there plans and he would never start for them atal if he's smart he'd move somewere were he can develop as a footballer somwere like siants would be the best place for him and love astori aswell.

Agree0 Disagree0

All this talk about having loads of money to spend is a bit worrying for a club our size I just hope they aren't loans to the club from the trust, as no one just give's money away.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why is it worrying? I smell a skate

Agree0 Disagree0

Perhaps Lamela would welcome an out from his complicated third party ownership situation? If Man. City were interested and made an offer it must mean there are ways out of this issue, because it would matter as much to them as us. Is the new manager interested at City-think he may have other targets. Is first team football important to the guy-should be, but always the case.

Genuine interest from Saints. Doesn't mean we will sign him, but NC does not waste time on wild goose chases, and even more unlikely to do so when the player is the same nationality as our manager (must help to know what the guy is about).

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

Best you check your senses then, we can only pay 60% of the clubs turnover on wages, under the new rules, some people on here think we have a unlimited funds, we don't! its ok spending someone else's money, but what do they want in return. Cortese must have come to some agreement with the trust they are just not there to throw money at us, as some on here seem to think including you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Funny you should raise the subject of wages-don't even see it mentioned within these posts. Did the signing of Gaston ruin the wages policy? The wage policy is under good control and revenue will be increased, so what's the problem?
Bet you were one of those moaning about increasing revenue from programs!

What do the Trust want in return? Maybe they want the same as Markus, or maybe they want to generate a business that they could sell at a decent profit. Who knows (apart from NC. ) But it is certain they do not want the status quo. That's reserved for ancient hippies or the "elite" EPL clubs.

I go by actions, and I see very few signs that the club will throw money away or be reckless, but the Staplewood investments should demonstrate the current owners/management will compete on a level playing field.

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

When have I ever said anything about how much money we do or don't have. Unlike you, I put my 'name' to my posts so you can check it out. I smelt a skate 'cos they, like you, seek to create fear about our finances. What's your agenda? I, broadly, agree with just about everything said by Saint Martin and Clarkey Saint and I don't recall either of them ever going on about billionaire owners or whatever, either. Of course Cortese has come to agreements with the owners, he's their bloody chairman. So c'mon, what's your conspiracy theory?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, what would be the likely sanction if saints did overspend on wages and transfers, say £20m for example? I'm wondering would it be worth us throwing the dice to get in top players at big cost and perhaps taking a one-off punishment on the chin for a long term vision. {Ed003's Note - 40 lashes of the birch in a public Square but with loads of chips on the shoulders shouldn't feel a thing really.}

AS Roma boss Franco Baldini has resigned as manager. Puts a spanner in the works for Lamela possibly.

Mini-Saint

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Half empty or half full. Could equally say he's resigned 'cos he's been sold.

Not a rumour but does anyone know when saints will release new kit details? or their pre season friendlies schedule?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Pre season schedule is likely to be late June when everything is sorted as far as who we will be playing around then. New kit is likely to be released around the same time as it was last year.

Does anyone else think Younes Belhanda would be a great signing for saints? Young, creative, ambitious & can play attacking mid and either wing. £12.5m isn't too bad if he fulfils his potential & could definitly be a "next step" player that southampton are looking for.
Premier league is his no. 1 preference & he'd be willing to go to villa so Cortese convincing him of the saints project won't be difficult.
Just thinking out loud.

Newbs

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He's a good player but I'd be concerned about his price tag seeing as he's not that well established yet. Could be worth a punt but I think I'd want Cortese to negotiate down the price to at most £10million.

Agree0 Disagree0

Was linked with Villa, would be good signing but probably not the area in the most need of strengthening

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree that he's not that well established. He's a ligue 1 champion, he's got some champions league experience and was a major threat against Arsenal showing he can step up to big opposition. Ramirez wasnt established and he cost £12m. I think a cheaper more viable option to the complex Lamela situation.

Pirlo was spotted at Hythe marina two Saturdays ago 100% him I have seen the photos make what you want of it just thought I would mention.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Ed any light? {Ed001's Note - if he is there it is on holiday mate, at least that is what I am told on very good authority, that he has no intention of leaving Italy.}

Agree0 Disagree0

It was a local hairdresser called dominic pirlo and that was his car. been seen around there for the last 2 years

Who? lol i saw my aunt in tesco's the other day guess what! she was shopping.

100% positive saints to sign astori next week

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What makes you 100% positive then?

Agree0 Disagree0

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and I imagine he's on exam leave without bothering to revise.

Expect Saints to sign Players on free transfers or that would cost small fees for the players deemed as cover and squad signings to free up cash for 2-3 stella signings this summer

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sounds plausible

Agree0 Disagree0

I suspect squad players and cover will be youngsters, to keep them developing.

what's wrong with talking about history? Southampton has never won a Champions League. So you do not even know how it feels like winning the most important and biggest tournament
but For the kits we are getting £25 million per year ( I agree they are horrible)

And Southampton can never ever become a big club as Liverpool or Arsenal etc.

I live in India and I do not know anyone here know about your 'big' club

As fir Suarez, he is a great player but very controversial so we are better without him
We actually played better without him

2011 (ynwa)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

History isn't a replacement for current form and class though. Both of which Liverpool lack.

Typical. Living in India and not having a clue about football. I personally don't care if people in India know about Southampton.

In the real world Liverpool are laughed at.

Funny how you change your tune RE Suarez as soon as he wants to leave. Before you're all standing up for him, now you play better without him! You don't - that's why he starts when he isn't banned.

Just pipe down and jog back onto your own feed. You can laugh about our ambitions all you like, but truth is. we've beaten you to two high profile signings in the previous season, so continue laughing as we continue to progress.

Oh and. 3-1.

Agree0 Disagree0

Nowt wrong with talking about history providing you don't live in the past and make silly statements e. g. 'Southampton can never ever become a big club as Liverpool'. I assume you also think India is still the jewel in the crown of the British Empire and famed only for chicken tikka massala. Stick to cricket mate.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool have achieved things that you can only dream about, as For currant form how many places below them did you finish, Liverpool will be challenging in the top half of the prem again next year, while you will be fighting against relegation yet again. CLASS IS SOME THING YOU don't DEFINATELY HAVE.

Agree0 Disagree0

When is this "next year" coming Liverpool fans?
Have heard it for 4-5 yrs now and still it hasn´t arrived.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aah, I remember the 'good ol' days' when all we achieved was banter with Skates. Now it's Scousers from India!, Gooners and Chelskites. Cool, we're getting there lads.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we're talking about history and European Competition, We finished 2nd 3 points off you in 84 our best ever finish. The next season Some of your silly silly fans prevented our chance (and every other english teams) of winning a European cup for 5 years when we finished 5th in the league but English teams were banned from Europe because of persons who support your club at the Heysel Disaster. But history is what it is, its history! in the past, gone. I must say I do feel for Gerrard, such a great player but he is never going to get that converted premier league medal. Also we haven't won much but I don't mind at all, it just means that when we do it will so much sweeter for us than for a Chelsea or Man U fan who expect it, there fans probably celebrate it by one clenched fist, a beer and then go to bed

Agree0 Disagree0

I think he said "top half". Liverpool have been challenging in the top half for many years - saints fan.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can understand in India CL is the only thing they know about! But it was a long while ago that Liverpool won it, and they are a long way off qualifying for it now, let alone win it.

You obviously know nothing about Saints winning the FA Cup against the "mighty" Man. Utd, but that is in the past too, so we don't drone on about it. We look to the future-I would certainly expect Saints in the top half of the table next season, would have serious doubts about saying the same for Liverpool!

Yes, we all like having a laugh but if you recorded Saints 3-1 win over Liverpool, play it again. It was not just a comprehensive win for Saints but exposed many weaknesses in the Liverpool squad that will take a long time to fix. If that doesn't stop you laughing, have a look in the archives for the really good article in the Times reporting on the match, saying much the same thing.

So far, in the last 6 months I have counted 9 Saints players Liverpool supporters have said they would like in their squad. Saints would have some interest in only 1 from Liverpool. Where is the future? Still laughing?

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

Swear that we beat you on aggregate this season 3-2? and that Jay Rodriguez ghosted past your whole team?

Agree0 Disagree0

Start shouting when you have actually won something, you are always going to be bottom to middle tier in the prem struggling to avoid relegation get use to it! CL do me a favour lol can't wait to see the egg on your faces next year,!

Agree0 Disagree0

The decline and fall of the Roman Empire! No, not Chelsea but Liverpool. Always starts the same way-concentrating on past glories and ignoring the decline gathering pace!
You have a history, learn from what historical trends prove.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can you all just grow up. What is the point in arguing about things you can't know as they haven't happened yet. Frankly nobody knows what will happen to Southampton or Liverpool next season. Southampton appear to be on an upwards trajectory given the money backing the club and the ambition but Liverpool aren't exactly on the verge of collapse and Brendon Rodgers has actually brought together a decent squad for them. Neither of us are Champions league at the moment and frankly I doubt either of us are going down next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

CLASS IS SOME THING YOU don't DEFINATELY HAVE

so what was jay rods goal against you then

Agree0 Disagree0

I just think Liverpool supporters should be taking more note of Tranmere than Saints, otherwise they may no longer be able to claim the "distinction" of being the second best side in their city! LOL

My son, a Liverpool supporter, hates that one!

Saint Martin

Agree0 Disagree0

Jay rod 6 goals in the prem says it all really.

Agree0 Disagree0

Liverpool aren't as big as they were a few seasons ago, so you must be lagging behind in India

Agree0 Disagree0

20 points more than you we also scored 71 goals to your 49 if you think signing a couple of european reserves is going to get you any where near us! well dream on lol we are light years ahead of you always have been always will be, keep deluding your selfs its priceless.

Agree0 Disagree0

All what this guy is going on about is history and at the end of the day history doesn't play a game of football

Agree0 Disagree0

Take notice why Southampton and Tranmere are on par with each other. in actual fact Tranmere might be ahead on trophy's won.

Agree0 Disagree0

The fact Liverpool fans are getting SO wound up by this says it all really.

on the way up and they don't like it. COYR

Agree0 Disagree0

Whats happened to the top quality players liverpool are meant to buy lol kolo toure and alex pearce

Agree0 Disagree0

They're getting scared and its only June lol why else would they waste so much time going on our page. I rarely go on other pages and when I do I never comment. I'm so happy supporting this wonderful football club. I don't feel the need to see what fans of other teams our saying. The futures bright for us and we are on the up. Don't think Liverpool can get higher than 6th, whereas we can definitely get above 14th

Agree0 Disagree0

Back to back promotions followed by glorious victories over City and Chelsea and an absolute battering of Liverpool. I think this thing called delusion is priceless as well. Long may it continue.

Agree0 Disagree0

Right let's be realistic, since Liverpool came 2nd a few years ago they have been on a slippery road down FACT but now under Brendan Rodger they have got a good team together and have improved a lot and I would say they are on the up, however Saints are also on the up FACT you can't deny it, back to back promotions and achieving our ultimate goal this season which was to stay up, which we have achieved, and now we are linked to some top European player not reserves, pretty sure Eric Lamela isn't in Roma reserves and yes we beat you to Ramirez and Forren, but you beat us to Coutino, I have no grudge against Liverpool, not sure why you felt the need to come onto our site to say this but next season we are aiming for europe, I don't think we'll get champion league, as that's a bit ambitious but season after that who knows COYR! (saints fan)

Agree0 Disagree0

Well saints fan, nice of you to be kind to Liverpool and I also have a regard for them BASED ON THE FOOTBALL THEY USED TO PLAY.

However, I differ in that I believe Rodgers is a weak manager who always seems to be trying to build his image rather than develop the club. They have a big rebuilding job to do and if they lose Suarez who is left that is high quality? Gerrard-sorry, his legs are going. Coutinho-looks a real gem, but I believe he did in short bursts previously and then faded, so await proof he will look so good post Christmas. And Sturridge? Very variable and injury prone, not good enough for Chelsea.

Some of their supporters are suggesting they will finish 4th next season. I suspect they will not be in the top half.

For all the promises, they will not be allowed to spend large this summer after wasting sums like £15m on Rodgers previous players. Wage bills to be trimmed, so signings like Alex Pearce being considered. They certainly do not seemed to be linked to Lamela, but can't seem to accept we might be.

And they get us tax payers to fund dredging their docks! Think their first priority should be to compete with Everton rather than fixate on Saints.

Saint Martin {Ed003's Note - do you think you are the only people who pay taxes,you are nothing more than an ignorant gobshite}

Agree0 Disagree0

Won't be posted Ed003 I know, but when you move from banter to abuse, you have lost the argument!

Just Liverpool taxes being spent on the docks/cruise terminal, is it? Didn't know the system worked that way.

Back to football, just trying to keep a balance when I see posts from Liverpool supporters giving an absolutely crazy assessment of how the EPL will finish at the end of next season. So, I add a little political comment as well. If that is really such a problem, take a backward look at the comments on the Liverpool site after Thatchers death (including those from the Eds. )

At least my posts are factually correct!

Saint Martin {Ed001's Note - don't be an imbecile. What has that got to do with football? You clearly are a clueless pompous Thatcherite tit. You have no idea what you are talking about, arrogance oozes out of you. You have no facts at all, it is embarrassing that you think your opinion is fact. No wonder half the editors refuse to go near the Southampton site because they say the posters are so arrogant it drives them crazy! You haven't even the intelligence to understand what the reply said to you, as your reply clearly indicates you can't digest information and understand it. No argument has been lost, you can't argue with a fool who doesn't have the necessary intellect to understand your reply and just makes it up in his head. Stick to footie, or try and educate yourself to understand that Thatcher was involved in the Hillsborough cover up, hence the discussion of her on the Liverpool site. Actually, reading your original post, I can see why you have veered away from the football, you clearly have no idea what you are talking about!}

Agree0 Disagree0

Ok, this is why I said can you all just grow up earlier, I kind of saw someone going a bit too far. Ed's I have to apologise on behalf of Southampton fans, we're not all that full of ourselves.

Getting back to the football, I never really know what to expect from Liverpool. The past few seasons they've under performed to finish in 7th. The squad at the end of this season looked very good and the star players on the team looked on their game. But I'm not going to say where I think Liverpool will end up next season until the new season gets under way considering a lot can change during a transfer window and how they will do will seriously depend on who leaves and who joins. Suarez clearly being a key part of the team would be quite a big loss, although Sturridge and Coutinho have shown themselves to be quite a goal grabbing duo themselves (case and point would be the thumping of Newcastle).

As for us (Southampton), I see us progressing this summer as we probably will get some serious improvements on the team. When it comes to the Centre of defence that won't be too difficult to find. I'm not going to say we'll finish above Liverpool next season, but if Cortese and Pochettino play their cards right we could be a surprise package.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well that escalated quickly ^^
