Is it just me, but I am getting very concerned over our ability to beat WBA in the first match of the season.
This is a team that ran rings round us last season Home and Away and also a team we failed to score against-it is also a team if memory serves me right that scored 5 goals against Man U in their last home league game'
So what have we done to ensure we score against them and win?-nothing as far as I can see, our defence is a lot stronger but where are the goals coming from?
JRod didn't exactly score goals of the season and Ricky is a year older so it looks grim for the start of the season. I wouldn't target Sunderland either, we know what happened against Wigan in game2 last year
We dominated or at least played in the opponents half in the last few games of last season but created very little, We need to create and finish and the present players up front I feel fall short on this criteria.
It seems to me if we are to sign anyone and I believe we will it will be right at the end of the window when options for all parties run out.
Maybe a chance for Billy Sharp to show us what he can do before then?

For goodness sake, Rod, try and be a little more positive!

Saints have tightened up defensively, and Wanyama will be pretty solid in central midfield. Lukaku will not be available either to WBA, so I expect this to be a very different game.

Ricky will come back much fresher and (hopefully) without a back problem and JRod might be a real star next season.

Yes, we need another forward but even without I would expect at least a draw from WBA, and a win against Sunderland. It might get more difficult later on in the season if an extra forward is not available.

One of the most negative essay I've read in a long time I think we're going to have a really good season squad looks good enough as it is no lukaku this time either he ran us raggid in the 2nd game I think well win 2-0 lambert double COYR

Agree0 Disagree0

Billy sharp is not prem standard jay rod is so much better give mayuka a good run of games like jay rod had last season and well see y we shelled out for him mayuka I think will be immense this season for us I really don't see the panic we have the best squad of players we have had in years and run properly exciting times I say not worrying

Agree0 Disagree0

And Lukaku scored 3 of them, who is no longer there and we scored 2 at home against them so should be a tight one really

Agree0 Disagree0

West Brom are our official new bogey team anyway, so who cares! It's a shot from nothing, any points against them would be an improvement on last year.

Agree0 Disagree0

I get the feeling J Rod is going to be a revelation this year. Last year he was quality, just lacked the composure in front of goal, something I'm sure the backroom staff have been working on over the break. Hopefully Gaston comes back fitter and now with a season under his belt should be more adapted to the EPL.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am not being negative, i'm being realistic, so who scored the two goals against WBA as I don't remember them?, as for Rrod being a revelation next season I really hope so, but if this is the case why are trying to buy expensive new strikers, to sit on the bench in case JRod isn't a revelation Isuppose, I did say in my post that we are a lot stronger in defence and I know Lukaka isn't there but Anelka is, I think we will have a great season but not until we improve up front and until we do I'm a bit concerned about our opening matches because I don't think as I've said before we will sign anyone till the last day or so of the window. I can only post what I feel and I hope JRod is a revelation in the opening games!

Just a thought but as Oscar Cardoza has signalled that he wants to leave after interest from aboard maybe this could be a good signing for Saints. Profilic and proven goal scorer someone saints need.
Any thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Good player but big wages for an oldish player

Agree0 Disagree0

Thoughts. yep. do all we can and get lukaku

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree. I would imagine there would be a fair amount of interest from other clubs though

Agree0 Disagree0

Would rather we followed through with the Damiao/Osvaldo/Morata rumours.

Although Cardozo is a fairly good player. Just we already have Lambert in the 'over 30' age group, not sure we need another striker of that ilk.

Agree0 Disagree0

We won't get lukaku he wants to fight for his place at Chelsea and TBH IMO is the best striker they have, Wake up!

The amount of rumours on this site now is getting ridiculous. We have been linked with nearly every football player in the world so far in this transfer window. Over the past 2 weeks, we have been linked with numerous strikers including:
Damiao,
Hernandez,
Quagliarella,
Zapata,
Igboaninike,
Sou,
Osvaldo,
remy (which is now no longer true),
vydra,

And there have been many more. These are just of the top of my head!

Also, we might be in talks from someone from Sporting Lisbon and we are potentially in talks with Banega.

Where does it stop? Which players do you believe that we are linked with? Do you believe in any of these rumours?

I personally have gotten to the point where I no longer believe any rumours that are posted on this website now!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mp stated banega and leandro so I beilve that all the rest made up as far as I'm concerned

Agree0 Disagree0

I've got to the stage where I can't be bothered to read the rumours. Most of them are so silly it's untrue.

We have 28 days left to sign someone. Either we will, or we won't. Whatever happens it won't be the end of the world, and we'll have an ok season.

What does everyone think about Oscar Cardozo?
Supposedly wanted by Cardiff City, Spartak Moscow and Zenit St Petersburg. And wants out of Benfica.

I know that he's 30 years old and that he would cost £15million, but his goalscoring record is/has always been around 20+ per season.

Ok he's not a youngen but surley if we can get him for a couple of seasons to push us up the league and possiably into Europe the we would surly be more attractive to people like Osvaldo, Damiao and that sort of caliber player.
Just a thought.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think Defoe would be a better choice, around the same age, natural goalscorer and could probably get him for around the 7million mark? I reckon he would score plenty of goals if he got a long run in a team!
BB

Agree0 Disagree0

Defoe will be worse than all our strikers added together, Mayuka will do the business, just needs gametime and I can see him playing a bit this year, especially out wide or just infront of rickie.

Agree0 Disagree0

Adrian of Athletico Madrid? Seems they're looking for strikers? could be good?

Anyone else starting to get the feeling something might have happened with Damiao or Banega? I know this keeps being said and that negotiations take a long time with better players etc but the season really isn't all that far away and we need a striker! And yes, I stick to these two because they're the only other two that were CONFIRMED INTERESTS.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought that they both fell throw

Just read that the bloke spouting all that stuff about billy sharps not his agent at all and sharp wants to stay and fight for a place. I really hope he's given a chance I think he's got plenty to offer us

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree he could be good

why has it been so boring lately?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cos Xfactors not been on for 7 mths.

Agree0 Disagree0

Xfactor is an awful show. Just awful. It's been boring because most the rumours on here are clearly nonsense and almost nothing has happened compared to last summer when we made 8 signings.
