Radja Naiggolan has just signed a loan deal with Roma for the the rest of the season. We could still get Astori though 😊

Stay happy Saints' fans

Probs won't get either unless Yoshida goes, which I think he will to secure his place to Brazil

Agree0 Disagree0

I would have been surprised if we actually were in for Nainggolan. It's not as if we are without cover in the centre of the park. Astori is more believable as we seem to be light at the back with only the partnership of Lovren and Fonte looking up to Premiership standard. (Although Yoshida has not been as bad as some seem to say).

What about Danny Ings? not a rumour apart from local chit chat, but thought on this?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I did wonder about this earlier this season, one of the reasons I made a point of going to the FA Cup game.

I didn't realise how fast he was. He looked very sharp, and a real handful alongside Volkes up front, with the pair catching both Jos and Maya napping several times.

I guess he'd probably go for a similar fee to Jay-Rod, but with Burnley in the hunt for a Premier League spot, there is no way that they'd want to sell either of their free scoring strikers.

Agree0 Disagree0

The one thing wth danny ings is he is great and everthing and I would lve him at saints but he is just the same as jayrod but he is smaller and maybe sightly faster than jay

Yoshida could be on his way out to boost chances of being involved with World Cup squad, surely we'd bring in a replacement if so?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's be one of those revolving doors / merry-go-round scenarios. One leaves because one comes in.

His replacement could be, one from, the following:
Davide Astori
Joleon Lescott
Scott Dann
Andrea Ranochia
That Argentine international Roger or something Rojas?. well him
Rio (not Anton!) Ferdinand
Cheeky Coubaly (spell check denied!)
and as someone said him earlier, Ryan Shawcross as an outside shout.

Astori transfer, but whether it's now or in summertime, will surely happen.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think a better, more fitting and cheaper selection would be Eric Dier from Sporting Lisbon. A few people mentioned him on here back in the summer, a young English talent who would provide competition for Fonte as well as our other defensive youngsters looking to get into the first team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Scott Dann's an interesting one, I think he'd but a great signing, he's an underated English CB, also Eric Dier would fit our young player mould better, but we could just use Turnball or Stephens?

Agree0 Disagree0

Given a choice, I'd take Kurt Zouma.

The guy is a beast = 91% successful tackle rate this season, and what more he's still a kid - Hate to think how good he'll be when he grows up!

Agree0 Disagree0

Buying Eric Dier will show a complete lack of faith in Stephens and Turnbull can't see us signing centre backs as young as him

Further down somebody mentioned that we are favourites to sign Nathan Dyer. I also heard this and I heard he'd welcome a return. Would be a decent signing I think, he's improved massively as a player. Also something unrelated, I wonder if Forren will be following his old boss to Cardiff? Would be interesting to see.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah, the Vegard Forren rumour kicked off shortly after The Baby Faced Assassin (Solskjaer) was found walking alongside Vincent "get out of football" Tan. Apparently Forren was superb for Molde last season, when Solskjaer's side won another title, etc etc. Solskjaer does want to take two or three of his old players with him, and according to all the right places, Forren could, could, be one of them, Alongside a bunch of Man United academy products who the red devils let leave.

Oh, that makes Cardiff faves to sign Ravel Morrison then?!

Vegard Forren's signing for Saints was a strange one. Biggest flop in our history? Well, uh hum, I'm sure "George Weah's Cousin" would agree with me ;) LOL

What do you lot think about a cheeky bid for Shane Long from Wba? Suits our fast paced closing down style and wouldn't cost the world? Premier league quality and not a 'could be' player?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yeah, Shane Long is possibly on our radar I'd imagine. I'd have him. Another good player who should be flying. He'll probably leave WBA but I don't know who for. Are Hull still gagging for him?

Southampton will need to off load players
To clear space on the wage bill prior to signing anyone else in.
Barnard
Forte
Martin
Sharp
Lee
Plus many fringe players who are not good enough
All stil on wage bill
Mayuka also

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Mayuka?! Are you serious? He's been brilliant at Sochaux this season, could be great when he returns.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lets keep Mayuka, he has bags of potential and has done well out on loan

RIO FERDINAND

So I've heard Rio Ferdinand's Manchester United contract expires this summer and talks haven't really taken place yet regarding extending it. The former England defender, seen as one of the greatest centre backs of his generation, is nearing the end of his career. Now, as Saints are building a young and refreshing squad, would it benefit having one or two senior heads joining it? I for one would love to see Rio in a Southampton shirt. Wages would be a stumbling block, and his fitness levels would need to be tested, but he's still a top, top, player. Would be delighted, as well as surprised though, if we signed Rio Ferdinand.

He's on my list of players, of all styles and ages, who I'd like to see pop up at our club.
I know those days are long gone, the era of Saints being a retirement home for England legends is in the past, but hey, we DO need an extra defender.

Saint Etienne.

Southampton, however, had noted how Clattenburg did not officiate at Goodison Park for six years following a controversial Merseyside derby and they believe that he must have been under particular pressure during their fixture at Everton nine days ago.
