It's just a copy of FIFA 15.

I heard it was Football Manager! But nevertheless since it's been used from last summer it's done a good job, minus the January loan deals.

I've never seen him play but from the pictures on the OS and what he's had to say, anyone else think that Cuco Martina looks pretty surprised by all this? He looks like he's won a competition!

Everyone's surprised. Twente fans can't believe Saints have paid money for him.

Even Saints seem a little bit lukewarm about the deal, having only given him a two year contract. When have you ever heard about a player younger than 34 getting just a two year contract? He's 25, in his "prime".

Let's hope he turns out to be a whole lot better than advertised, because I haven't heard or read a single comment about him from Dutch football supporters that is even slightly positive about his quality.

{Ed030's Note - Any idea how much he cost? }

Reports floating around, (don't know accuracy of them) but 3 million euros has been mentioned

Supposedly around 1m, Ed. Whether that's pounds or Euros or shirt buttons, who knows?

€1.5m

If Toby has signed for Spurs and Spider goes we are in trouble. We desperately need two class central defenders, a wide right winger and a creative mid fielder.

If we don't we will do a Newcastle in 2015/16 and struggle. We won't reach the success of the past seasons. Perhaps that's no mean thing. Why should we produce great players just for the big 4 to purchase? Are we first a business and secondly a football club? Perhaps we are.

Roko must be getting frustrated. We are not giving the fans good vibs at present.

What we need, gtsaint, are committed players who WANT to play for the club. As has been proved many times in the past a good team will always bneat the best eleven.
I believe in our stucture and our vision. Cheque book team builders are Ten a Penny what we have at Southampton are deicated club builders I will go with that anyday.

Steady. I think I'm right in saying Saints hadn't signed ANYONE at this stage last summer, so there's plenty of time yet (and four deals, of varying quality, already in the bag).

If they replace Alderweireld and Schneiderlin, the balance of the squad will be pretty much as it was last season, albeit probably down on quality as it'll be hard to find comparable replacements.

But I don't see a "Newcastle" struggle on the horizon. That club is rotten to the core. Saints might drop off to around 9th-12th, not least due to the extra workload of Europe and a thin squad, but I'm saying that without knowing who else is being lined up to come in. They might have an ace or two up their sleeve.

Toby to Spurs is all done. Les Reed is negotiating with AM over the €2m buyback clause they had - not the permanent transfer of him.

However.Vic Alderweireld said: “We have a concrete agreement with no one. There are conversations right and left but currently there are no changes from the last few weeks.”

And you know this how?

Agree0 Disagree0

07 Jul 2015 20:58:43
wrong.

you really think a club, who has directors and lawyers with their heads screwed on would take legal action (potentially spending more than that €2 million) when they'd get the money anyway? Some say the club already received the money, just after the deadline Althletico had to pay

The whole situation isn't that Athletico haven't or won't pay the money, it's that they didn't pay it in time and the club believe that they're still entitled to buy him for the 6.8 we agreed on because of that. The only thing the club are arguing over is to force Athletico to accept the 6.8 million

We still seam short of good defensive signings. On the Toby front, if we had a genuine agreement with AM we should go to court to prevent any climb signing him.

Also, in my book, we should now offer Spider a contract he deserves, and keep hold of him.

Why should we sell our players just to sit on a reserves bench?

So we've officially signed Martina from Twente. Seems like a stop gap signing for me. Twente fans helpfully gave their prespective, fair play to them. 2 year contract pretty much shows how confident (Or unconfident?) He gives us time until Target can challenge Bertrand again and until we decide if another RB should be signed to challenge Soares.
Pros: He's very versatile, supposedly able to play anywhere in the back four. So that's added depth for Euro there. He also had a good season under Erwin Koeman before Twente (Probably why they signed him in the first place) unfortunately it didn't work out. He's cheap, and does not have sky high wages. 25 yo relatively young for a defender.
Cons: Versatility means that we probably won't see Stephens or Turnbull this season, McCarthy's as well. He's also making a big jump to the PL. I can understand how Pelle's and Tadic's transition seems easy at first because they left on a high from big clubs. Martina's last decent season is probably still at RKC, who (no offense) are below Saints level.
To summarize, I think he'd be a useful squad player. I trust both the Koeman brothers.

I watched the two Jack's at Swindon quite a bit last season - they're not ready to step up as yet. I think a loan to a Championship club would suit them best this season in my opinion.

I never thought we'd see much of Stephens or Turnbull this year. Center backs take a lot longer to develop than other positions, so I expect they'll be back out on loan for at least another season, perhaps two. McCarthy is a little younger. I expect he'll spend another season with the U-21s and go out on loan next season.

He is a RB.

08 Jul 2015 00:06:53
He may be mainly an RB, but can play CB and apparently mostly played LB last season. He's a multi-position player signed for his versatility and (presumably) his relationship to Erwin Koeman.
