I'm a newby poster but long time reader of this page.
Lots of people on here thinking of right wingers in the team but I can't see that. If you look at our midfield and attack we have too many decent players.
If you think we have lallana left wing, centre mid we got cork. Shned, Davis, Hammond and chappers. Up top we got rick, j-rod, sharp, Tadanari, and do prado. Including de ridder at RW there is simply no space in the squad for extra players. So guly and others that some fans think wont cut it (not me) will have to leave before we bring in. I can only see defensive signings and GK in the future. I hope for butland over mcgregor and Clyde and a good young CB.
These are just my thoughts. Sorry it was a long one.

You may be a long time reader, but you are certainly not a long time saints fan or one who goes to matches. if you did you should really believe that we dont have a good enough right winger. lallana plays on the left (can play right but is arguably our best player and therefore wont be moved elsewhere unless need be, schneiderlin, davis, hammond, cork and chaplow are all CM's despite playing out of position on the right. that leaves guly, de ridder (who both i dont believe are prem standards) and jay rod who again has been playing well for Burnley as a striker. he will also be used there. Right Wing therefore needed.

I think if anyone were to be sold it would be puncheon, although I can see us playing 4312 meaning that we don't need another rm

Agree0 Disagree0

People aren't suggesting we sign a RM/RW to fill space, it is quality that people are concerned about. We definitely need RB/CB/GK but we could also be found lacking in the RM/RW department because De Ridder is relatively un-tested and questionable defensively and none of the other players you have mentioned are naturally RM/RW, they are either CM or CAM.

I know what you mean though, there is no point filling our squad with midfielders, but I think it is an area we could do with looking into in the future. Perhaps wait til January and see how we fare, then get a RM/RW in if it seems we could do with a bit more stability in that position.

Agree1 Disagree0

We all know adam lallana can play on the left, and play on the right and that he makes messi look s**te... maybe relistic saint isnt a true fan either..

Agree5 Disagree0

To the person suggesting we will play 4312 you are a muppet and very very wrong.

We would never play that narrow and defensive. Most of our play last season went down the wings and was about having a wide spread, disciplined 442 or 451.

We'll stick with 4141 to fill the midfield but have attack minded players who can push up and support lambert/jay rod

Something like..

Davis
RB Hooiveld CB Fox
Schniederlin
Lee Davis Lallana Buttner
Lambert/Rod

Agree2 Disagree4

I'm not a muppet if you look at a signing lined up its a wing back buttner who will bomb down the flank at any opportunity, I think if we sign a right back he will be a similar player that will provide with and plus when we played the formation last year it was very fluid meaning lallana will drift out wide

Agree0 Disagree1

I never said we don't need better quality down the right wing RS. All I'm saying is that if you look at the list I have given I can't see many of the not being in a 25 man squad. So unless we offload we can't bring in. I never said I wouldn't accept a better class of a right winger I wanted to offer my opinion. And to say I don't go to games I see as unfair I imagine you go to your fair share of games but don't assume others positions. I go to every game I can, in fact in our second league one campaign missed only 5 games. So I've offered my opinion doesn't mean what I say is right or wrong. But as a REALISTIC saints fan I cannot see another attacking player brought in without losing one of the 25 man squad. We can all say bring in Adam Johnson or players like this. Would be super but I cannot see it.

Celtic boss Neil Lennon is desperate not to lose Gary Hooper.

Southampton are keen to bring the Englishman to the Premier League.

Lennon said: "He's a player I like and he's done really well here.

"We'd like to tie him down for a bit longer if we could.

"He's really enjoying it here and at just 24 he's still got plenty of progress in him.

"He knows he has a big season ahead of him in terms of Europe and the domestic scene and he wants a wee taste of that again.

"We met his reps at the end of May so I'd assume talks will continue in the next few weeks."

It would be bad for us to look like we will always come back with a better offer if refused. We have to draw the line and I believe that was done once we signed Rod.

I know people say we don't need another striker, but I think we do need one more... The reason being that despite having a very talented 4 in Jay Rod, Rickie, Lee and Billy, none of them have Prem, or top level in Europe e.g la liga or serie a, experience. I think bringing in just one more striker would be a sensible idea! But we do need to prioritise and sign a GK, CB and RB first. But if not a striker then at least an attacking midfielder who plays a similar way to how Silva played for Spain during the Euros.
I appreciate many may disagree with me, but I think we may need that one more attacker with top level experience...

Lee was wanted by many other premiership sides but we got him that's why everyone was so shocked by NA/NC buying him as know one saw it coming, Sharp deserves a chance and will play better because its a challenge for any striker to get into the squad, this year to get a game they will have to up their game in order to play. I can see NA using Rickie Lambert along side Jay Rodriguez for the first game and then Lee and Sharp for the next and then mixing it back up to see who plays well together, and so on! this will take place during the Pre-season matches until NA finds out who he would like to play together for the first match against Man City. Don't forget our youth coming through i'm sure James Ward-Prowse would love to make his mark on the premier league this season with a few goals, So we have five strikers which are all good especially Rickie Lambert who is premier league quality as Alan Pardew wanted him at Newcastle but couldn't get him because he wanted to stay at Southampton. So overall we are safe in the front line of attack and mid-field now as we have Adam Lallana on the left Steve De Ridder on the right (expect him to play a big part next year as NA highly rates him) and Steven Davies in Mid, then In LB we will have Alexander Buttner, Fonte Cb, as for RB i'm not sure who will play there and as for the other CB i'm not sure either both those place are the areas most probably being look at now as well as a new GK. That's why we know we wont need another striker as we have five already and i think that is enough to make all those players challenge for a spot in the team each game! Plus we will have a strong squad if we fill these three areas quickly RB,CB and Gk! if we fill them three areas are squad will be able to give anyone a game next season and i reckon in the January transfer window we will sell some players and bring some players in. That's what i'm expecting to happen next season.
