Anyone watching the game today knows, things don't look good desperately need a striker and this hasn't even been mentioned!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I enjoyed the match really it was nil nil performance but Taider Clone Fonte Tadic Ramirez Wanayma were good. We lacked some cohesion and pace at times. But we were not outplayed. We created good chances but failed to finish. Pelle needs more support was anonymous at times against a good German defence. Reason for hope at time's played as well if not better than last seaons team. Easy daysbut I'm hopeful

Agree with both of you. I thought the midfield was good
But
We desperately need a striker. Pelle cannot be expected to be on his own against some of the greatest defences in the world.
Our defence also needs at least a couple of people to even have a chance against some of the top strikers in the world.

I've got a quick question for you Saints fans.

I am an Arsenal fan and I've been wondering: If we were to loan you Gnabry (which has been mentioned in the past), would start for the first team?

I don't mean to offend in any way, just curious.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The first thing I would suggest is like any other player he would probably have to fight for his place. But I am not sure he would be a regular first choice with players like Tadic, Ramirez and on his return Rodriguez in front of him.

Plus with our own youth there to compete already I would be a little surprised at least if we were to sign Gnabry, not that I wouldn't welcome the additional cover of quite a good player.

Agree0 Disagree0

Can he play on the left? If so he'd probably get in the team until J-Rod's fit after then I doubt he'd be a starter

Phillipp Wollscheid looked very good when he came on against us at St. Mary's today. Get your cheque book out Ron, and save £10m by not signing Rojo. We need players who want to be here, not forced to be here or offered silly money.

Is grove, clyne, Bertrand having a great game (1st half), JWP seems to be running the shop. Much to be positive about despite 0-0

Need another striker and some defence. Think we will struggle otherwise

Agree0 Disagree0

Your joking right? Didn't think we were all that to be honest don't think Leverkusen even got out of 1st gear but saints were really trying. Isgrove did a lot of running which didn't come to much Tadic didn't do anything exciting don't think he got round anyone. Pelle nothing to shout about, Wardprowse kept losing the ball, Bertrand nowhere near as good as shaw at getting forward. Best players out there were Clyne, Fonte, and Taider. We missed morgan and lack a quality pacey striker and and cb don't think pelle tadic Bertrand are a patch on lambert lallana and shaw also koeman has to leave his white trousers on his riverboat because he looked like he should of been an umpire at a cricket match. Taider looked a cut above the rest. Sorry about my class half empty approach but just being realistic.

Agree0 Disagree0

I completely diagree with you Mikey, we dominated the match despite it just being a friendly and the link up play between players looked very good, particularly between Tadic, Clyne and Davies in the first half, our problem today was our final ball, as we were getting into good positions but we barely gave Pelle any chances to finish off, we had chances to score with Yoshida going close and then we hit the woodwork twice, with a bit more luck and if we get these players we're targeting in we'll be fine

Hope so st sam hope so!

Just a quick response Mikey but how many games did we dominate last season but couldn't score? Looks to me that we will struggle unless we find someone of quality to play off Pelle who let's face it can't do it all by himself. All the top Prem teams also have goal scoring midfielders, we don't. Jack Cork (as good a player as he is) has still not scored in the league for Saints since he joined us 3 years ago, surely that can't be good enough.

Just to say ed007 I have been very greatful for your input concerning southamptons interest in your players so would like to thank you for being so open and helpful.

What i'd like to ask is what are forsters strengths weaknesses and how do you think he will do in the prem what level of goalkeeper and we putting him on par with I saw you rate him more then mignolet. Who was decent before his liverhampton move.

His reaction saves in my opinion are some of the best I've seen reminded me of that mexican keeper at the world cup with some of the point blank saves he made.

{Ed007's Note - No need to thank me and you're welcome. Forster's main weakness is he sometimes struggles to command his area and come for crosses, I've said for a couple of seasons it must be a confidence thing because he is as brave as a lion coming off his line and diving at player's feet etc, he has got progressively better season by season though so I expect he will continue to improve that part of his game. His distribution can sometimes be a bit suspect but Neil Lennon wanted him to get the ball forward as quickly as possible so any GK would be a bit hit & miss constantly hitting big punts up the park all the time.
Where Forster comes into his own is his shot-stopping, it really takes something special (or freakish) to beat him from distance, his huge frame literally fills the goal and he'll use any part of his body to try and block the ball. He also has quick reflexes and can pull off close range saves that'll have you wondering how he kept the ball out. Like Peter Schmeichel, Forster likes to stay on his feet and stay big for as long as possible before committing himself.
I've said before that if Forster had already been playing in England he would be a serious challenger to Hart for the England No.1 jersey, I'd take Forster over Hart all day long and I expect it to be a close call who is between the sticks for England at France 2016.
If Cech, De Gea are the cream of GKs in England I'd have Forster in the group just under them with Hart and possibly Krul, he's better than the likes of of Mignolet and Szczesny at Arsenal. I'm actually surprised that Arsenal didn't try and sign him.}

Cheers Ed, I'm delighted we've signed him, he sounds class!

Intrigued to know who the club are looking at as striker option, pretty much under the radar apart from obvious press speculation.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Dojo will not be coming to us because he does not rate u and there isn't champions league football whatever we offer so best look elsewhere

I must admit to not watching / reviewing any pre season games this year but IF we sign those we're linked to, how does this look?

Forster.

Wollscheild.
Fonte. Rojo.

Clyne. Bertrand.
Wanyama.
Taider. Tadic.

Pelle. Rodrigues.

Wollscheid

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Haven't heard the Wollscheid link before, would be a decent signing though. So far in pre season we've lined up with 4 at the back and one up front so it'll probably be more like;

GK Forster/Boruc
RB Clyne
CB Fonte
CB Yoshida/Rojo/Gardos/Wollscheid
LB Bertrand
DM Wanyama
DM Cork
CM/CAM Davis/JWP/Taider/Ramirez
RW Tadic
LW Isgrove (J-Rod when fit)
ST Pelle

Or the same with Davis and Tadic as CAM with JWP/Taider in the CM role

On hearing that Morgan's toys are are strewn all around his pram, it seems to me that an obvious solution has presented itself. Sign Jordy Clasie. I know he plays in a slightly more advanced position than Morgan, but I think he could make a big difference for us this year.

We no longer need a direct replacement for him as we have Wanyama, Cork, Taider, Reed etc. So why not use the money on Clasie who, as soon as Koeman took over, was said to be the most likely to follow his boss.

The only problem is that with Morgan, the board and Koeman, have decided to take a stand. Which is in itself great; but if it results in him either under performing or not playing this season, then it will result in a cut price deal in January or next summer. I know that football clubs should take a stand against contract rebels, but that's a stand I'd like a richer club to make!

I feel that the board were right to sell the disgruntled players this summer and get the right money, rather than risk unrest; and they should continue in the same vane with Morgan.

We are now signing some good replacements and yes we may not achieve what we did last year but we are again building for the future.

Sign up Forster, Rojo, Clasie (or Will Hughes), Patrick Roberts and Ings for 50 million quid. New contract for Jack Cork and big new contract for Jayrod.

Below is how I see our team lining up if we can complete the Rojo & Forster deals.

Need a few more for squad depth and I would like to se us sell some players that aren't needed e.g Hooiveld, Sharp etc.

Personally I think we should get rid of Schneiderlin, A real shame about his attitude close season, Yes he has been a very good player for us. But with this Tantrum and behaviour going on is only going to unsettle other players.
If he doesn't want to play for RK and Southampton happily let him go, He is no good to us with this attitude
Re - invest and move on, Let Big Ron rebuild with dedicated players who are keen to show there worth and ability in the Premiership
A new era begins, let's have it! COYS

I've seen recently that we're in for biabiany, I don't know if this is true but I hope it is, because tbh isgrove is a great young player but I don't think he is quite ready for the top flight yet I think biabiany should be a good signing if the interest in him is true of course.
