We need to sign a left footed CB, to compliment Lovren any thoughts?

Believable12 Unbelievable5

Too much change will destabilize the team, Yoshida and Lovren will be more than capable. We don't necessarily need a left footer to play left centre, neither Fonte or Yoshida are left footed yet they partnered each other well until Fonte got injured

Agree7 Disagree6

I think you're completely disregarding yoshida and fonte they can Interchange and swap within the three of them.

Agree4 Disagree4

We have been highly linked with frederic Sorensen of bologna and frocks on erazo. I imagine we could be looking at singing two CB if we let both hoiveld and fonte go. Personally I would love is to sign someone in the ilk of inigo Martinez or hector Moreno. Young but experienced head.
JS

Agree3 Disagree2

If lovren gets injured we are back with and unreliable pairing. Yoshida positioning is poor and he rushes in to much, Jos is just Jos lol and Fonte just is a lower prem club player. If we want to push on I think we need to strengthen with another CB.

Agree7 Disagree0

Wouldn't mind bringing in Coates from Liverpool. A Uruguayan friend for Gaston

Agree3 Disagree7

I agree too much change may destabilize us but surely if we are aspiring to play European football, we need to improve on Jos and Jose

Agree5 Disagree3

Victor Ruiz

Agree4 Disagree4

Why a left footed one? decent players can play with either foot. the need for a left/right pairing was an Adkins thing, we will be fine with two good right footed CB's

Agree3 Disagree4

Terry, luiz, Cahill, ivanovic.
Ferdinand, smalling, vidic
All right footed and never done these any harm. I wouldn't worry.
Vermaelen is left footed and his partnership with anyone has been far from outstanding. I think waynama would be our back up behind yoshida, lovren.
Saintsmiff

Agree3 Disagree2

I thought Lovren was a left sides cb?

Agree1 Disagree1

Lovren is Right footed.

Victor Ruiz is a great shout as he can also cover LB.

Agree2 Disagree0

I'm not disregarding Fonte or Yoshida, but I don't think Hoiveld is up to it and if we can get a CB who is comfortable with either foot then great, I thought Forren was the solution but he's clearly not and has left because of it, Vinctor Ruiz sounds like a good shout though, would be good cover

Agree0 Disagree0

Martins-Indi would be good, can cover left back too

Agree0 Disagree0

We need a left footer for the left side purly for the balance it brings to the team i'm sure poch knows what he's taking about in that department

Agree2 Disagree0

We can't just go out and buy players who are better than what we have, we need to build slowly with one or two quality players coming in every season. We could sign the best player in the world in every position, but it wouldn't make them a good team. Boruc, Shaw, Yoshida and Clyne all know how each other play, therefore keeping Yoshida in the team will create a stronger defence than if we changed both CB's

Agree0 Disagree0

Victor Ruiz or Charlie Mulgrew

This seemed far fetched to me but someone has told me Southampton have moved for a double bid for AS Roma young duo Marquinhos and Erik Lamela. I can see us trying to get Marquinhos to replace Forren but I thought we'd already established Lamela wasn't going to happen.

Believable4 Unbelievable8

Marquinhos is in talks with PSG.

Agree2 Disagree2

Pure comedy. oh I change that.
pure bad comedy.

Agree6 Disagree2

Are you kidding? That's such a terrible attempt at a rumour. It's not even far fetched. It's beyond far fetched. It's not even 0. 00000001% likely to happen.

Firstly, Marquinhos is being linked with PSG et al. BIG clubs. RICH clubs.

Secondly, combined fee would be in the region of £45million.

Thirdly, doubt Roma would sell their two greatest assets and best young players at once, to one team. Maybe they'll sell one, not both at once. Unless the buyer is paying ridiculously over the odds.

Go to bed.

Agree3 Disagree2

I doubt we'll get Lamela, I think he'll stay at Roma

Agree1 Disagree2

Would be an incredible duo to snap up.
I think we have a better chance with Lamela, he would fit in with exactly what we need now as well

Agree2 Disagree3

I reckon Lamela is exactly the type of player we want. No chance of Marquinhos.
In fact, I think it is Lamela that we have wanted all along and the whole Osvaldo thing is a smoke screen.
Am not sure how Roma are financing all the signings they are going for, but having missed CL qualification, they need some player sales

Agree3 Disagree0

Combined fee would be closer to £55m.

Agree0 Disagree1

Marquinhos will go for between £20-30m. I'm sure they won't need to sell more players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Who says Marquinhos will leave? He has publicly said he wants to stay at Roma and wants to continue developing. He's only 19 and hardly wants to risk sitting on PSGs bench the year before a world cup.

Napoli have completed the signing of striker Jose Callejon from Real Madrid on a four-year deal.

So does this mean they are not still after Damiao?

Believable4 Unbelievable2

I don't think Damiao will be leaving Internacional. I think this will drag on as it has done multiple times before and result in nothing. Maybe it's time to look into other striking options at the top end of the game.

Agree4 Disagree10

I hope so, callejon isn't an out in out striker though.

Agree6 Disagree4

Apprently ye it means they won't be chasing dmaaio anymore let's hope we get him and now forrens left another class cb

Agree4 Disagree3

Lukaku is your man he ripped saints to shreads in the game at st marys

Agree16 Disagree1

Yeah, you're right there. Would love to sign him. Don't think we will though

Agree4 Disagree2

Pocc did say all the transfers are going to be done on their terms. I am starting to believe the 8 odd mill bid for banega was accepted weeks ago and are well ahead of talks. and for damiao, I also believe we have matched their valuation. all these rumours must have some substance, the press knew we were interested before the press conference. cortese doesn't seem to be messing about
saint smiff

Agree7 Disagree0

Internacional have put a bid in for robinho to cover for the loss of dameio!
It was on sky site yesterday

Agree0 Disagree1

Callejon is more of a winger. Doubt he'd be the replacement for Cavani that Napoli are seeking. He cost £8.5m pounds so it's a bit of a step down from £20m rated Damiao if that's the alternate transfer option.

Don't think Napoli will be out of the running just yet. See what happens after Cavani moves to PSG.

Also Damaio wants a big club and Champs league. And Internacional are notoriously difficult to deal with so can't see Cortese seeing eye to eye with them.

Sorry to have such a pessimistic view. Just too many unlikely factors need to align for it to go through, and I just don't see us sorting them all out.

On the plus side, I think we'd have to over spend for him so it's probably a good thing we aren't going to sign him. Doesn't strike me as a £20m+ player.

Banega much more likely and an absolute steal at the reported £7m-£9m rumours going around.

Agree2 Disagree2

Banega yes but Damiao not quite there yet in my opinion. Would love to be proved wrong though.

Wanyama deal has gone through, for an estimated £12.5 million pounds.

Believable13 Unbelievable1

Youve got an absolute bargain the guy is sensational, all the best for the new season hail hail

Agree14 Disagree4

What a player you have got, from a celtic fan, best player since larrson, good luck saints

Agree16 Disagree1

Fair play to all the celtic fans wishing us and wanyama all the best. Its nice to see and good luck in the ucl this year

Agree15 Disagree2

I do feel as if this deal has been set up to be announced today as has the departure of Forren just to distract from the abysmal failure that was. Can't understand what's happened there. Still a very good piece of business to sign Wanyama.

Agree3 Disagree1

The forren thing must be a personal issue like homesickness or he just has a problem with somebody at the club or perhaps he's just proper sh!te either way its very strange and wish the lad all the best. Sad to see chaplow leave aswell but he will be a great addition to any championship club.

Agree8 Disagree1

Don't wish to appear gready but next please.

Agree14 Disagree0

Shame about Forren, I hoped he would be a really good signing. Did we sign him for £3.5m? If so, some reports suggest he was released by us. Also, MP said that he knew about the Forren signing before it happened and before Adkins was sacked so its all a bit strange in my opinion.

Agree4 Disagree1

Les Reed signed him. There's no confusion. Reed also signed Tadanari Lee & Mayuka. So no confusion!
Have heard that Poch demanded full control of targets when he took the job so Reed has reverted to scouting/ negotiations.

Agree4 Disagree1

Forren wasn't released. The official club statement said only Chaplow was released. Forren was sold for an 'undisclosed fee'.

Agree4 Disagree0

Forren is basically what happens when the manager has no input in the transfer. ie Adkins and Poch. Neither signed him

Agree2 Disagree2

Big shout out to Celtic! They have helped produce a fantastic player in the big Wan. I wish Celtic another great season with an even better CL run than last!

Agree1 Disagree0

I don't know why everyone is so negative about the Forren thing. Its a mistake. What we paid and what we got I reckon we lost about 1m as I doubt we paid 3. 5 up front.

It was a risk that didn't pay off. It might turn out to be a mistake selling him back yet!

Agree1 Disagree0

Celtic fan here just to wish big vic all the best at his new club, this boy can play guy's give him time to settle then watch him go great ball winner in the middle of the park, you also have our old keeper Boruc who a few years back was superb in a Celtic jersey saints now my epl team have a great season lads and enjoy your football.

Wanyama has signed but it will not be announced until tomorrow as it will be a double signing and triple unveiling. Pal of mine heard this on a stadium tour this arvo that was cut short. He doesn't know which player it will be but it's apparently "big news", whereas the third will be Luke Shaw signing his 5yr deal on his birthday. Watch this space.

Believable4 Unbelievable18

Awkward

It has just been announced.

Agree5 Disagree1

Well that was BS

Agree5 Disagree0

There won't be another signing tomorrow apart from Luke shaw

Agree7 Disagree0

Hmm. Oh really?

Agree0 Disagree2

I think it will be cork and shaw signing new contracts
smugsaint

Agree5 Disagree1

Actually there is still one more signing waiting in the wings. We know it is an overseas player due to delay in announcement. Also yesterday we knew about the photoshoot taking place at sms however one of the locations to be cleared was the stand & as yet we haven't seen any pics of wanyama in the stand suggesting those pics were done tonight for this player.

Agree2 Disagree3

Sorry, was just quoting what had apparently been said within the club yesterday. I did laugh when I submitted this then Wanyama got announced! D'oh.

Focus more on the signing announcement today + Luke Shaw.

Not trying to spout BS, just saying what's been heard. Don't get nasty if I'm wrong. COYS!

I really liked Chaplow. Still think he could have done a job for us but we are evolving all the time and I'd rather an honest hard working player like him got 1st team football where he can show his metal. Good luck Chappers

demichelis has joined atletico madrid, saw a few articles linking him to us. i'd say another defender could be possible now though seeing as hooiveld is our only left footer now!

Believable2 Unbelievable0

I think another CB may be worth some consideration now Forren's gone back to Molde. I've seen Frederik Sorensen from Bologna's name pop up a lot recently.

Agree3 Disagree1

Expect to see Sorensen sign soon and the departure of either Hooiveld or Fonte depart. My pref would be Hooiveld.

Sorensen can also play RB therefore a useful addition.

Reports in Norwegian media state that Forren is on his way back to Molde. Press conference at 1630 norwegian time.

Jean Norway

Believable8 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - just in case: http://www.rbnett.no/100Sport/fotball/article381503.snd that is a Norwegian article stating he is returning, purely on the strength of him having been spotted in town.}

Hope so he is not really going to get into the first team, so atleast he will get first team football now. We will now move on to buy another CB.

Agree3 Disagree5

This is forrens report on the matter

The Norway centre-back is yet to feature for the Saints after joining in January but has turned down a move in order to fight for his place ahead of the new season
Southampton defender Vegard Forren has rejected a loan move to former club Molde in order to fight for his place on the south coast.

The 25-year-old, who has seven caps for Norway, only joined the Saints in January for a fee of around £3.5 million but is yet to feature in the Premier League.

However, the defender looks prepared to fight for a spot in Mauricio Pochettino's team, despite the club already signing fellow centre-back Dejan Lovren earlier in June.

"I am very fond of Molde and hope they do well, " Forren told the Daily Echo, "but right now it's not an option for me. "

Agree2 Disagree3

I'd hope not, seems such a waste if this is true. I thought he was supposed to be the next big thing from Norwegian football.

Agree1 Disagree1

I met him last game of the season and he said to me he was really keen to get into the team this year so why would he leave could just be going back to his home town?

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - that is why I posted up the report, so you could have a look and see just how little basis it was being made on. The guy's family lives there, it is hardly a shock that he was there during the off season! Especially when you consider he has already rejected their initial offer to return on loan, just a few weeks back.}

The press conference is on Norwegian television right now. Forren have signed a 3, 5 years contract.
Jean Norway

Agree2 Disagree0

Forren is off, and permanently. don't quite get this

Agree2 Disagree1

There is official confirmation of Forren leaving for Molde. Look on the OS.

Agree2 Disagree0

Forrens gone. Totally baffled by this decision. We paid 3.5 million quid for him and the guy never got a look in. Sorry, can't work that one out.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that is bizarre, he only rejected a loan move back last month saying he wanted to fight for his place!}

Well its offical he is back at Molde actually had some basis to it after all!

Agree1 Disagree0

What is so strange? He was bought in the January window to cover a fairly desperate CB situation. Since then a new manager has come in, and Jos started to sort himself out (somewhat!). Now we have signed another CB with possibility of another on the way. So, would Forren really have played much next season-don't think so. Therefore best all round he can return to Norway and continue his career.

Southampton haven't finished buying from celtic yet.
Once the deal for wanyama is done, saints want defender charlie mulgrew for a reported fee of £5million

Believable4 Unbelievable14

No we don't. We are fine for CB places now.

Lenny

Agree6 Disagree6

Doubt it hooper more likely

Agree3 Disagree7

Nonsense!

Agree3 Disagree0

What do you mean were ok for centre backs? we have yoshida, hooiveld (fans want him out) forren (not played yet) fonte (fans calling for him to be dropped) so yes another centre back is needed

Agree4 Disagree3

It was going to be a million cash but we insisted on a player in the deal so now it is five million plus jos h.

Agree0 Disagree0

Only reason Forren hasn't played yet is because the Norweigan League's season had only just finished when we signed him so he needed rest. I reckon we'll see a lot of him this season.

Agree1 Disagree10

Well looks like he's off back to Molde without playing a single minute for us lads!

Agree3 Disagree3

Mulgrew distribution is poor

Agree0 Disagree2

To the fourth reply that I assume was replying to me:

Even now Forren has left, I'm more than content with having Lovren and Yoshida as our primary centre halfs with Fonte and Hooiveld for cover. We even have a youngster in Stephans who I believe can make the first team as well.

So I'm not too bothered about another CB and I don't think we'll sign another one.

Luke Shaw set to snub a £12 million move to Chelsea and will sign a 5-year contract with Southampton - the new contract will have a release clause though.

Wanyana will sign for Saints this week but there has been persistent interest from another club, probably Cardiff.

Things are falling into place but as I indicated previously, there was never going to be much transfer activity before the start of July.

Believable9 Unbelievable6

Shaw was always going to sign his Proffesional contract with us. The Chelsea links were just made up by the press because as a kid he supported them. he knows he is in the best club for developing players.

As it seems Wanyama is on the verge of signing, I here we're apparantly interested Cheikhou Kouyate, would love this, as he sound class, but we don't need another CB really unless we were to sell 2, I still think we need cover for LB, RB, RW or LW and ST, I think we should use Taggart and Chambers for cover for LB and RB cover also Cork will be able to cover RB, possibly use Isgrove or Rowe as cover for wings but it's they may not be ready, but it's more likely we'll sign someone I'd love Moses or Sinclair to sign or even Ince would be quality and a for striker if Jake Sinclair or Ryan Seager are not ready then I think we should go for Dalmio of course, or Adrian maybe Morrata, I think we need to spend big on a striker, I think we have great prospects for next season, I think a top 8 finish is very possible and who knows maybe even higher? COYR!

Believable2 Unbelievable8

Blimey you have just covered most of the reserves and then say we need a top class expensive forward/striker. At the stage we are at we can't risk the academy boys/reserves, this season experience is absolutely paramount. We know a lot of our young lads have great potential but we need to establish ourselves in the prem first. Good finish this season and use a few of them as subs when we are in a strong winning position for experience is the only way to go. The EPL is a very tough league with guys out there that would eat our young boys for breakfast. Understand your post but we can't take risks.

Agree7 Disagree0

We can't keep buying a ton of player as cover, and expect them to happy to be on the bench! We got plenty of cover in defense (to back up Clyne - Lovren - Yoshida/FonteForren/Hooiveld - Shaw): Cork, Yoshida can play RB. Clyne can switch to LB if needed as he has done before. Wingers: Punch, Lallana, Ramirèz, Rodriguez. But the big money should be spent up front as Lambert won't score 15+ goals every season, and let's face it; He's not getting any younger.

Agree8 Disagree1

If Wanyama does sign, then Striker's definitley going to be the next top priority. Damiao would be a coup if it happened although I think he's more likely to go to Napoli if i'm honest and Ince looks to be on his way to Cardiff. I wonder if it would be worth looking into Mauro Zárate who's fallen out of favour at Lazio recently.

I think we're good for CBs now. I'd expect Lovren, Yoshida and possibly Forren to be regular starters next season. I think Taggart and Fox are good enough back up for Luke but we could do with another RB as back up for Clyne now Richardson's gone. I know Yoshida and Cork can play there but it's not their primary position. Could see Cork filling that role if Wanyama will be challenging for his position in DM.

Agree3 Disagree1

I totally agree St. Peter. At the moment I worry about how we are going to do up front. Towards the last third of the season we really struggled with goals. Whether it was service or just the strikers. Rickie is a good intelligent player but we NEED someone who is going to score us 20+ and someone who is going to keep sending in the good crosses/passes.

Agree2 Disagree0

Forren can play lb and cb. Yoshida and cork rb. Think that's enough cover tbh. Also I'm starting to believe pocc and cortese will bring in just 2 more players. Damiao and banega. I hope
