Southampton latest transfer news:

Alexander Buttner:
Saints should complete the signing of Vitesse Arnhem defender Alexander Buttner before the start of next week - mostly likely over the weekend.

Steven Davis (Signed):
FIFA have granted Saints a provisional international license whilst Southampton sort out the legalities with Rangers 'newco' over the issue of international clearance.

Nathaniel Clyne:
Saints are very close to signing Nathaniel Clyne from Championship side Crystal Palace, according to @reluctantnicko (Twitter) of the Daily Mirror - "deal should be completed within next 24 hours".

Michu:
According to the very reliable source '@FourthOfficial' (who has been based in Southampton for the last few days), Southampton have made an 'Official Approach' to Spanish side Rayo Vallecano for their highly rated midfielder Michu.

You could be right, but what concerns me with just over a month till our triumphant PL return is three recognised CBs and Tommy Forcaste as 2nd keeper. At this rate I think we will be fine in that we will score a lot of goals but it sure won't be pretty at the back... Ps does anyone know about the American lad who played against Sholing the other night?

This would be great if it all happened

Stop worrying about CB and GK-all signs are both are covered-why would Saints let these two positions become thread bare if they did not have plans underway??

There was a discussion about the American lad the other day. He got released by Ipswich but is the USA U20 GK and I think our scouts see potential in him however he isn't ready yet

Saint Martin - I am not worried that these positions will not be covered, particularly noting that Adkins normally underplays transfer talk. It is strange, however, that for the reason you state, signings have not yet been made. Signings seem to be being made in the reverse order of the areas which needed strengthening most!

Yes, I understand where you are coming from, but it could simply mean that there have been some need to change direction for these positions. Maybe Butland was the first target and time was required to see if he was realistic before moving on elsewhere-just a guess?
I have a feeling that the CB position cover could be a real surprise, and it could be that it is seen as a real key signing to give some serious international experience into the defensive areas where we could be found wanting in the Premiership. Another guess, but it could explain why it is taking some time. Also, other transfers may have required accelerating simply to secure a player against another sides interest.
Time will tell, but I honestly think we will see more pieces of the jigsaw in place this weekend.

I reckon Butland will force a move away from birmingham towards end of transfer market, cos birminghams signings are awful, swear theyre trying to get out of championshipship not go down, signing Hayden Mullins is a sign of desperation

Might do mate but he says he wants to see how things go atm! hearing NA/NC are in for a young italian keeper that many to clubs are after though, i just dont know his name lol

Spoke to a member of the security staff today that tells me rumour around the stadium (so this isn't def)that Michu is due to be the Marquee signing at the Cup Weekend! As per previous foreign imports....

I hope the zaha and Clyne is true, fut the mould and could triple in price if they make it. NA is preparing for the future assembling a future title winning side. Buy smart and I see us mid table 15-10

Zaha and Clyne a great possibility considering saints have previous dealings with Jose fonte and more recently the loan deal involving Aaron Martin. This could mean saints have a great chance of negotiating a deal
