With the money we have generated, we really shouldn't be wasting time with below par bidding for players. 3. 5 for Redmond? Give them 6 and see what they say, same with De Vrij, Utd are linked but if we can sort it out before they've got their hands on him, a 10 million bid should be good enough to land him with utd probably thinking of players like Rodriguez of Monaco and other big name players. The sooner we sign more players, the more time we have to generate good squad morale and will show the other teams we mean buisness.

I agree in principle but it partly comes down to the player demands and if they know Man U are waiting with a vastly improved wage offer then it could cause us problems. Especially if their reps are telling them to wait. I really do think we should go back and offer the 6 for redmond asap.

Agree5 Disagree0

Saying we should pay what teams are asking just because the club has the money is like going into a car dealership and not trying to get yourself a better deal just because you have the money

Agree6 Disagree2

Rodrigues who was arguably the best player at the world cup? I Take that is a joke?
Don't know why everybody thinks Redmond is that good anyway? Only a handful of good games last year.
I suspect with the scouting team the club goes on about, we will have many targets, some the media haven't reported yet. Just chill and I'm sure some good appointments will be made at the right price.

Agree5 Disagree6

Afraid that's not how it works in football. Why would you bid 6 if they would accept say 4.5 mill but 3. 5 was to low. That's 1.5 mill that could go on something else.

Agree5 Disagree0

How is that a joke Saintsmiff? James Rodriguez definitely was one of the best players at the World Cup? He won the golden boot!

Agree5 Disagree1

Haha de vrij and rodriguez as if, if any other fans read this then were all going to look crazy, please stop

Agree3 Disagree3

I don't think some of you read my post correctly, at no point do I say we should get James Rodriguez, I just said Utd would be looking at players like him and others right now. And yes, the cheaper we can get the players the better but if a club has already named a price, why are we wasting time by bidding less? "We want 20 + for Lovren" and Liverpool bid 15. If they bid small, we will probably end up keeping, if they cough up 20, he's their player and done deal. Same with Redmond.

Agree4 Disagree1

And to saintysaintsaint, I agree with your statement completely, but this isn't a car dealership where we're tryna get £500 off or £1000 off. Football is surrounded by stupid money where 500,000 and a million difference isn't much to pay more.

Agree3 Disagree1

You've misinterpreted what he said. He mean United should be looking at players of Rodriguez quality, not De Vrij's.

Agree6 Disagree0

The joke is thinking we could get somebody like Rodrigues.

Agree2 Disagree7

I don't mean to ruin the party or anything but I think that SaintJamie was trying to say that, because Manchester Utd have the big name players on their hands such as James Rodriguez, there is the opportunity for us to move in and take the slightly smaller players from under the noses. The whole notion is that they are going to prioritize the big name players and not smaller ones, so we can take advantage of this opportunity. I'm not saying I agree with what he said, just that I think the wrong idea came across - no, we are not going to sign james rodriguez

Agree5 Disagree0

At the risk of sounding cheesy.
There's only 1 J Rodriguez

Agree6 Disagree0

Saintsmiff & S1 you might want to read the original post through one more time!

Agree3 Disagree0

Seattle Saint, after reading the above post I have to agree. And I see what u mean. It did sound crazy that somebody was trying to link us with James Rodrigues

Agree1 Disagree0

Individually it might not seem a lot in comparison but paying an extra million plus on 4/5 players that we could have saved is enough to buy another player, it's definitely worth the club trying to save as much as they can

Agree0 Disagree0

I didn't misread the post but your sugesting we throw big team money about united have built their empire over about 20 yrs, we have been back in the prem for two seasons we DEFINATLY should not start acting like manchester united becaus we are nowhere near the size of them, we are the best midtable team with without doubt the best academy were streets ahead there, but that doesn't make our first team one of the bigboys and we need to stop thinking we are

Agree0 Disagree3

De vrij signing will depend on whether Lovren leaves, 24 mill in 8mill out is really good business

4 0 sharp pen and steve davis rocket, I know its a meaningless game but well done Billy lad never thought you would score wearin the famous stripes again!

Believable8 Unbelievable2

I agree SouthCoast I'd like to see him being given a chance, I noticed no Dejan appearance though

Agree7 Disagree1

Billy Sharp!Sharp! Sharp! Sharp!, get in!

COYS

Agree5 Disagree1

Would love sharp to finally get a decent crack at the prem even as a bench/sqaud player as I've always felt he could grab a few for us given the chance

Pelle, Lovren and Yoshida weren't playing as they're still being assessed

Agree3 Disagree1

Dejan and maya Wernt included due to having an extra rest from Wc.

Anyone an idea about how tadic played?

Agree2 Disagree0

Lovren, Maya & Boruc were late joining the pre season start due to wc so were left out of this game as their fitness wasn't up to right levels yet. This was confirmed via saints official twitter

Agree2 Disagree2

Boruc? Poland weren't in the World Cup?

Agree2 Disagree0

16 Jul 2014 11:47:26
poland played a few friendlys after the season finished . proberly taking an extra weeks break

Watched the game, Mcqueen really showed class and composure, took some great corner kicksThink he deserves more first team football this season. As for dusan, hit the post in the 2nd half, apart from that passed the ball well and played a good game overall. Matt targett did well on the left, playing many good passes down the left wing and defending well.

Saints and Stoke have had £3.5m bids for Nathan Redmond rejected by Norwich, who are holding out for £6m.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

Can I suggest that Saints meet the £6m asking price. This is a seriously talented young footballer, who will be an asset to the club and eventually worth 3 times that amount.

Agree7 Disagree7

Come on saints sign him up, 3.5m never enough, surely worth at least 5 m, great pace and an eye for a goal

Agree6 Disagree2

I think it'll end up being that price, but all clubs now seem to edge up over a period of weeks to try and get a bargain if possible. It makes good business sense - Why show your hand straight away? He would be fantastic playing in that line of 3 behind Pelle! Bags of pace and ability.

Agree5 Disagree0

Even £6m is a steal. Pay it.

Agree9 Disagree2

Wouldn't be overly impressed he's a raw talent needs developing he scored against us and people seem to think he's an English Robben.

Could become a decent player but wouldn't be overly shocked if he was nothing more then cover for JayRod

Agree6 Disagree3

6 mill is a steal, already tore it up in the prem for a crap team imagine him in ours would be like having hazard

Agree7 Disagree10

Lol hazard

According to TV we have offered Jay Rodriquez a new 5 year deal.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

I wonder what SaintySaintSaint thinks of this! Big risk signing him on an extended contract with an injury. How did he pass the fitness test?! :)

Agree2 Disagree7

Fitness tests are only for players moving clubs, think it through before you try and be smart badgergk1 :)

Agree4 Disagree4

I think the joke was lost. My point is that its not a risk extending his contract because the club knows he will be fine. Equally its not a risk signing Benteke if you know he will be fine

Agree1 Disagree0

TV reporting we have offered Jayrod a new 5 year contract!

Not a rumour I know but was just wondering what other people think of TV live game schedule. After finishing eighth in the PL and playing very attractive football we have been given 2 live games between the start of the season and the beginning of December. Just goes to show that apart from us ( the loyal supporters of a great club ) nobody really is interested in us or taking us seriously. I say let's give Koeman and the team the best support we can to prove them wrong and show the rest of the country what they will be missing.

Agree9 Disagree2

Must be a bid on the table for him from Liverhampton or Spuds. sign jay sign!

Just read that RK is considering rivaling Lazio and Utd for De vrij. Feyenoord are ready to listen for offers in the region of £7 million. I thought he was great during the world cup and would be a steal at that price. The lure of Utd maybe too much but, surely we'd have a chance with him playing under RK before.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

If that choice did come up, he would choose utd. But between us and lazio I would consider us favourites. Can't see this deal happening for less than £10m though

Agree4 Disagree2

He is in the last year of his contract so they may be forced into accepting lower offers around £7million, which still sounds a lot for a defender but it's around what we paid for Lovren anyway. Could be a good signing but sounds like competition for his signature is intense.

Agree3 Disagree0

De Vrij gets along really well with Koeman and Kluitenberg, he might prefer that and guaranteed first team football to possibly sitting on the bench at utd

Agree6 Disagree0

I do feel sorry for feyenoored as they have lost their manager to us lost many players and are continuing to loss players I feel like Liverpool to them and doing what they did to us. But yes de vrij would be a frat signing

Agree5 Disagree0

15 Jul 2014 18:25:52
Southnoord?

Agree6 Disagree0

I would just tell feyenoord to blame Liverpool. If they hadn't tapped up our players, there would be no need for us to raid them! Lol

Agree7 Disagree0

15 Jul 2014 18:32:44
I don't think they lost their manager directly to us - he resigned at the end of the season (just so happens we took advantage!)

Connor Wickham has rejected a three year contract extension at Sunderland with Southampton monitoring the situation. Think this would be a good signing. Showed great promise end of last season and I think its safe to say we need the the depth upfront. Always good to buy young English talent

I have heard a strong rumour that Southampton are very interested in Benteke. A mate who has strong links with Villa (he knew Senderos, Cole and Richardson were joining before any rumours or news) has said Southampton have made an approach to sign him. Apparently an initial bid of 15mill, Villa are either thinking about it or waiting to see if any bigger offers come in. He said they need the money and need to strengthen the squad quickly, cashing in on Benteke now will mean they can get 3 or 4 players in before the season starts

Believable7 Unbelievable3

I just can't see us spending that much on a player who is still recovering from a serious injury. I think he's a great player but too much of a risk at the moment in my opinion.

Agree3 Disagree4

He will be fit by September, apparently training already at Bodymoor Heath. He is at the same stage in recovery as Jay Rod

Agree3 Disagree1

If he's at the same stage as J-Rod, there's no way he'd pass a fitness test

Agree1 Disagree4

I can assure you he would pass a fitness test. All he needs to do is have the injury passed off as being ok within a certain time scale and we get him at a discounted price due to it. I know a few physios and one that works with AVFC U21. If a physio and a doctor know a player will get over an injury, within a certain time, with no long lasting damage, then the club will buy

Agree2 Disagree1

Players with injuries, therefore, not fit, do not pass fitness tests.

Agree0 Disagree6

So a team wants to sign a top player, let's call him Messi for now. The selling club is happy to sell him due to the massive amount on offer and the buying club really want him and know this is their only chance to agree the deal. Buying club realises he has an injury that will take a couple months to sort out but its ok because its not during the season and he should be fine by the start of the season. Does the buying club say the deal is off knowing that they will never get this chance again or does the buying club take advice from medical staff and sign him in the knowledge he will fully recover at the start of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

BadgerGK1's scenario reminds me of the Charlie George scenario back in 78, signed him anyway

Agree0 Disagree0

Absolutely not.

Because the selling club will have their own medical staff telling the club that the player will recover. Therefore, there is no need for a discounted price.

What you might get is an injury prone player sold at a reduced price.

Don't forget that insurance companies will block the transfer of an injured player
