Same website that broke Dejan Lovren to southampton 8 days ago are reporting a 9m Euro bid from Saints for for Valencia's Ever Banega.

This might be a bargain. He was apparently bought for 18 million euro originally, but some freak accident involving his own car broke his leg in two places. Not all injuries should cause devaluations of players, but do in the minds of those who want perfect youth.

Agree3 Disagree2

I hope this is true he is a class player

Agree8 Disagree0

Good I think banega is class

Agree9 Disagree0

Would make a superb signing. He will probably displace Cork, to play alongside Spider, if we sign him. If we want to make serious progress as a team though, that is the tough kind of call that needs to be made.

Agree11 Disagree5

He'd be welcome competition for Schneiderlin and Cork in the engine room and it also means that we won't have another spell like the start of last season (when Cork was out injured).

Agree8 Disagree0

He will have to be seriously good to replace cork as I seem to recall our increase in performances and results seemed to coincide with corks return to the team after injury. As good as spider is, cork gives us some real grit and determination in midfield and I wouldn't mind seeing us try a 4-3-2-1 formation in some games as winning the midfield can often win you the game.

Agree10 Disagree2

If this happens Cork becomes the cover / competition for right back. No signing required. JWP and Davis cover for central.

Agree6 Disagree5

Interesting views on this. I can see Schneiderlin, Cork and Banega being able to all start. Banega sat in front of them (a bit like Davis has done this year) then a Uruguayan-English front 3 full of pace, skill and power (Lambert, Rodriguez, Ramirez, Lallana and this Bueno chap). Sounds like a formula that would dominate midfield and put fear into any defence.

My starting XI next year:

Boruc
Clyne - Lovren - Forren - Shaw
Schneiderlin - Cork
Banega
Rodriguez - Lambert - Ramirez

Subs:
Gazzanigga
Yoshida
Gamez
JWP
Davis
Lallana
Bueno

Agree7 Disagree17

What no jason pucheon?

Agree14 Disagree3

Mine would be, given what we know.

Boruc
Clyne - Lovren - Yoshida - Shaw
Schneiderlin - Cork
Ramirez
Rodriguez - Lambert - Lallana {Ed016's Note - Yoshida over Fonte?}

Agree8 Disagree6

Yoshida over Fonte for me any day. He played well against Brazil last night. Thought he looked pretty solid.

Agree18 Disagree0

Hope we don't split cork and spider up they are like peas and carrots if it isn't broke don't fix it! the more they play together the better they will get maybe rotate them tho.

Agree8 Disagree3

Agree with comments about Cork should be in England squad. The reason he is not in is because he does not play for one of the top six clubs. He made a huge difference when he returned from injury and meets the all requirements to play our pressing game.

Agree3 Disagree0

Southampton team next season.

GK- Boruc

LB- Shaw
CB- Astori
CB- Lovren
RB- Clyne

DCM- Nainggolan
DCM- Schneiderlin

LAM- Lallana
CAM- Ramirez
RAM- Lamela

ST- J Rodriguez

Subs- Davis, Yoshida, Gamez, Cork, JWP, Bueno, Lambert.

Amrit.

Agree3 Disagree10

Lamela is very unlikely to sign. Don't think Astori will now we have Lovren. Don't think, even if we did sign Nainggolan, he'd displace Cork. Cork is very solid and a key player in the heart of midfield. Him and Spiderman are a great duo and play so well off each other I genuinely believe we can't do better than that central midfield duo at Southampton. Nainggolan would have to be a back up option.

DCM SCHNEIDRELIN

We are looking at ruben garcia from levante and the daily rag are saying K. Navas (GK)

Believable12 Unbelievable8

They would both be quality signing.

Saint James

Agree10 Disagree4

Wouldn't say a keeper is an absolute priority though

Agree4 Disagree3

No full back cover is next, then a striker, then a winger, then CDM, then a keeper. Probs don't need another CDM though, I'd like to see Prowsey roated with Cork and Shneiderlin next season

Believable20 Unbelievable17

Agree, but if you express your thoughts on this site other people have the right to express theirs, just because you don't agree with it doesn't make it wrong.
If you don't want to read other fans thoughts/feelings don't come on this site.

Great signing so happy with this, does anyone know if we are still chasing astori? And any news on lamela?

Agree4 Disagree1

Bueno will be a great signing and will be good for gaston too. source came from a tweet on a south american twitter news feed. and after posting this last night I noticed a few of the saints forums have spotted it too. personally wanna see a move for astori but looks like the rumours are wearing thin. I've not heard any fresh news on lamela but imo bueno will be better than lamela. but only time will tell :)

niftysaint (dan)

Agree2 Disagree7

Astori won't sign he would of in january if he was and I don't think lamela is intrested but I was wrong ramirez

Agree2 Disagree1

Lamela is streaks ahead of Bueno. Can't compare the two.

Both similar age. Lamela has played for Roma and Argentina, whilst Bueno has played for Nacional and Uruguay U21s! Different worlds currently at a similar age.

Lamela been dubbed next Ronaldo and been linked with City and United etc. We never stood a chance of signing him, different gravy to Bueno!

Having said that, Bueno would be a great signing. Seems a talented, grounded lad. Good bit of pace, good skill. Will take some time bedding into the Prem though. Also echo your sentiments of helping Ramirez. Can't be easy being a young lad coming to a new foreign city and having so much pressure.

Agree5 Disagree0

Last I heard we said no to bueno and have moved on

Agree2 Disagree1

Yea I know lamela is something special but would cost a lot let's be realistic would the kid being dubbed the next ronaldo come to saints he'll be aiming for a higher recognised club if he does leave roma this season. what I like about bueno is he shows real promise of becoming special and will be cheaper too. its all about watching the younguns progress and for me personally i'm looking forward to the future and watching these players develop

Agree3 Disagree2

But, I would have thought Lovren would have snubbed us (as many others did) to go to Liverpool, Inter Milan, AC Milan or Tottneham, yet he has come here and the word which keeps coming up after we sign a class player is the "project" and I think that our future plans is the perfect place for young players and someone like Lamela may see us as an up and coming club and think that he can get 1st team football with us and want to be part of our journey towards becoming a Top team, as we all know Cortese will probably be thinking of Championsleague qualification in a few years time, so why not come here?

Agree3 Disagree0

I agree there's not a lot of chance that lamela would choose us if he had offers.

Bueno I'm still unconvinced as to whether we would want him in the premiership. He is fast but is just so easily knocked off the ball. Watch the videos of him. Looks skilful but. that's it. he would need time on the ball. you don't get it in the EPL.
One of the reasons Rickie has done so well is apart from his intelligence off the ball, he has physique.

Agree0 Disagree0

Think you will find Bueno is 19, Lamela is 21. You would expect any talented young player (if they continued to develop strongly) to really show improvement between 19 to 21. So do you look to bring in a 19 year old for around £10m or a 21 year old at £30m? Not saying either will happen, but don't think trying to make a direct comparison really works either.

Saint Martin

Agree8 Disagree1

Astori won't sign because he would have in January-sorry mate, but we were heading for possible relegation then! I think you will find it a lot easier for NC to attract players this summer.

Saint Martin

Agree2 Disagree0

Saint Martin you are wrong with the ages. Bueno is 20, Lamela is 21. There are just over 10 months between them which is pretty similar. And if you do an age comparison you'll still see Lamela representing Argentina and AS Roma whilst at the same age Bueno has yet to play outside of S. America clubs and has yet to represent Uruguay at a Senior level.

They are both in the same age bracket I'm afraid - young up and comers no longer playing youth football and looking to push on in their careers. (They're certainly not 2 years apart as you are insinuating).

Also you are saying making a direct comparison worked. all you can do is make a direct comparison when asked to compare two players at the same stage in their career! There is no indirect way of comparing them.

Agree1 Disagree1

St martin. You may be right about astori I hope you are just that I keep hearing that rumor and starting to think it won't happen but like I also said I thoght the same about ramirez last summer

Agree1 Disagree0

I'm happy with Lovren. Him and Astori are the same calibre of player anyway. We still have Yoshida, a top notch defender, and Forren who is clearly a talent.
