Having sacked AVB, rumours circulate that Spurs have placed Pochettino's name on shortlist for their manager's job. Alongside the likes of Capello, Hoddle, Laudrup and Klinsmann.

Pochettino is soon going to be in demand from the "big" clubs, and if he wants a stepping-stone job before then, he'd stand a good chance of getting offered it.

Saint Etienne.

MoPo is pretty loyal, he's the type of person who'd rather make a smaller club into a big club than to have it handed to him. Besides, I have a pretty good idea where NC will tell Levy where to stick it if he comes knocking

Agree13 Disagree2

I instantly thought this. I just hope the don tells levy where to go! Hoping poch has bought into our ethos and is as loyal as we all think/hope. Bit u never know in football anymore?

Agree8 Disagree1

Spurs, well mr levy, consider themselves to be a much bigger club than they are in reality. I believe that mo will not be of interest to them they will want a a big manager for their big club.

In sacking AVB I reckon they have left themselves with a problem spurs have taken a couple of stuffings but are two points off the champion league place in the QF of the league cup and the last 16 in the eufa cup having won all their group games. So, let's sack the manager. Smart move. Who will want to go and work in this sort of dysfunctional environment.

Outside bet redknapp back from QPR!

Poch is a perfect fit for Spurs who are near champs league, £100m+ of talent and have an impatient chairman. What's different about Saints? £100M+ of talent and The Don will want serious compensation which Levy won't pay so Poch is staying so that's then end of that

Agree7 Disagree0

Poch may be a perfect fit for Spurs, but I'm not so sure that he'd want to go. I get the feeling that he's fairly loyal. When he started at Espanyol, quite frankly he did a remarkable job under extremely difficult circumstances. I'm sure that he would have had numerous offers to go to bigger clubs during his first three years in charge there.

According to Poch, one of the main reason for choosing Saints, other than the Passion and ambition of the club, was the academy system, and the desire of the club to bring through a high percentage of academy players into the first team squad - That's something that Pochettino had a track record of doing at Espanyol.

Spurs have a totally different set of objectives - Fit the mass of newly purchased players into a winning side - hell that could take up to 18 months - and Levy isn't that patient.

You have to question the lack of wisdom by Spurs, and clubs of a similar ilk that buy so many players and expect them to just fall into place. Just like at Sunderland, a Director of Football buys too many players, and the manager pays the price.

For me, this just underlines how well Southampton Football Club is run. I'm not saying Pochettino won't go to Spurs, but I'd be astounded if he did.

Do spurs really have £100M+ worth of talent of have they just extremely over paid? I think the latter

According to reports, we are in advanced talks with Julio Cesar. He is currently on £90,000 a week but we are only going to offer him £45,000 a week maximum. If he wants to be a serious contender to be in the Brazilian team for the world cup then he might just have to make the pay cut. I personally would love to have Julio Cesar. He is a great shot-stopper and this would give Artur Boruc some serious competition to get into the first team (this could make him stop conceding to many mistakes). What do you guys think about this? Do we need him or not?

Believable6 Unbelievable9

Or, pressurising his place may cause him to make more mistakes, honestly, don't expect anything major until the summer

Agree2 Disagree1

Not even I would pay £45k a week to play for Saints rather than warming the bench for £90k a week. He is 34 and looking for retirement money not trying to launch a career.

Would QPR make the rest up perhaps?

Well well. Fat sams after rickie lambert again lol whens he going to realize we won't sell him

Believable8 Unbelievable2

Actually hate to say this but I can see us letting him go if we can secure one or two other striking options. He's not exactly on form this year and he's not getting any younger. Overcharge them and invest in future prospects.

Agree10 Disagree12

Fat sam will be sacked before xmas
plus rickie to good for wet sham

Agree11 Disagree1

Sad to say that I can see this happening, anytime in the next 18 months.

Agree5 Disagree6

^ Rickie will have retired within 18 months, he's too big of an influence on the younger players to sell, like Kelvin

Agree8 Disagree4

If you see him as retired within 18 months then you would have to look at what Sam is offering.

Agree3 Disagree1

What are you all on about, Ricky is a key player for the team, he hasn't scored as many goals this year but has still had a big impact with his link up play and assists he's our best striker atm, Obsvaldo is to hot or cold, he's key to the team so it won't happen.

Agree7 Disagree3

Seeing that we are being linked with a move for Quagliarella from Juventus today.

Could this be to play two up front as Rickie and Osvaldo are still not clicking, and Osvaldo is lost up there on his own.

Rickie is a key part of the team (but for how much longer) and Adkins was a bigger part.

Agree3 Disagree0

Logically, this would be very unlikely. West Ham unlikely to want to spend more than a few mil on Rickie due to his age and for us he is worth more than that. Granted, he is not scoring as freely as last season but is still a big part of the team. They would not be willing to pay what he is worth to us.

Agree3 Disagree1

Juventus only want 3 million for Quagliarella, so to get a few million for Rickie would just about cover it.

Would be a sad sad day though and i'm not sure at all it would work - but I said the same thing when MoPo joined.

Agree1 Disagree0

Fat Sam is supposed to be after Rickie every window and it will not happen!

Fat Sam likes forwards who are good at falling over and gaining free kicks-suggest he should take a look at Ashley Young! Seriously, following recent comments coming out of West Ham United I would be surprised if Sam is allowed to make any signing in January.

Saint Martin

Agree2 Disagree1

Why would rickie leave saints for a team in a relegation battle
not happening ever

I have it on good accord Southampton have opened talks with Celtic over signing Joe Ledley and Fraser Forster. Ledley contract is up this summer and Celtic are hoping to sell him in this window before they lose him for nothing. Forster is looking to go to brazil and feels he has a better chance of going if he is playing outside of Scotland. I think both these lads will be good additions

Believable4 Unbelievable9

Personally I don't think Forster would get in our team over boruc

Agree7 Disagree5

Joe Ledley? Joe Ledley? Honestly Joe Ledley, why are we looking at championship standard players? Not the way to get in the Champions league. Suppose Celtic are our feeder club now.

Agree6 Disagree1

If Southampton are planning to continue the theme of buying players from Celtic, despite Joe Ledley being a pretty damn good footballer (Cardiff are more likely to re-sign him though) can Pochettino instead just jump into a time machine, go to somewhere in early 1977, and sign a Celtic star by the name of Kenny Dalglish.

I guess my dream transfer rumour of Saints signing Messi in January doesn't seem too unrealistic after all now.

comment by Saint Etienne

Agree1 Disagree2

I think both are good players who are not championship standard. However we don't need Ledley as we have enough CDM/CM's however we could do with a keeper and I think Boruc on his day is better than Forster but is also less consistant and sloppier, also Forster has the potential to be better, so I'd love to sign him
