Horrible feeling that their will be mass exodus of players.
Rumours abound in Newcastle that they and one or two others will use change of manager to put bids in for players.
Shaw, Ramirez and Lambert come to mind

Believable6 Unbelievable26

Ramirez can't leave, he's not eligible to play for another club until next season, Shaw won't go either after the long term contract thingy and Cortese's view on keeping him probably hasn't changed. Got a bad feeling you may have a point on Lambert though :(

Agree2 Disagree10

You mean the Ramirez who has already played for two clubs this season (can't play for 3)?

Understand your grief-but don't panic. Cortese may have been silly regarding Adkins but he is no fool and will have covered this.

Agree9 Disagree4

I've thought the same RE Ramirez.
You can be registered for 3 clubs but can only play competitively for 2 of them. Gaston did not play a competitive match for Bologna this season so can leave and play for another club :(

Agree3 Disagree3

Lambert won't go! He has said on numerous occasions that he wants end his career with saints!

Agree6 Disagree3

Ramirez played for two clubs?

Agree0 Disagree2

I doubt Ramirez will be off now its been rumoured that NA's demise was hastened by Southampton's better players like Ramirez et al not buying into the NA way.

Agree3 Disagree2

Ramirez was playing for Bologna in the first 1 or 2 games this season before his deadline day move.

Agree3 Disagree1

Yes bologna and saints

Agree2 Disagree1

Saints 7-0 Everton anyone? wouldn't be too surprised after today...

COYR

Agree12 Disagree6

Not sure what all you haters are on. i'd still do anything to sit at st marys and watch every game, let alone away. disgusted that some apparent 'saints fans' have said about ripping up their tickets for monday, or going on protest! what's that going to bring? what's donw is done, its gone now. protesting is not going to change a multi million pound contract that managers are on nowerdays. so how about all of you 'saints fans' take you head from you backside and sing youre heart out for the lads! no matter what, 11 men out there need our help, Adkins or no Adkins! the man was a legend and cortese was wrong to dismiss him, but we can't change that now. we just need to focus on winning, starting with three points against everton on monday, a tough but achievable aim. COYR we are premier league and WILL stay there! COYR!!

Agree19 Disagree3

Great post from whoever posted about getting behind the team. What will that achieve?

I'll tell you what it will achieve - relegation. We need to move together as one.

Agree3 Disagree9

Rameriz hasnt played for 2 clubs this season .. he hasnt had a single game for bologna in this current season

Agree3 Disagree5

NA did brilliantly, and the dismissal is almost as bad as the Chelsea fiasco with Benitez coming in. It's not good that there isn't an easy way for fans to say thanks to NA. He made the odd mistake, and sometimes was too full of business-speak, but it's pretty crazy that if he hadn't done so well with consecutive promotions he would still be in a job.
Best wishes to him for the future.
Listen to Fergie saying how crazy the world is.
But the players are still the players, the fans are still the fans, let's get behind the team on Monday and keep progressing up the table.
And thanks Nigel!

Agree9 Disagree0

Ramirez won't go, he now has a fellow South American at the club who speaks Spanish so would expect him to be fairly happy with this.

Agree4 Disagree0

Trust me, Ramirez won't be going anywhere now a Spanish speaking gaffer and the likely hood of quality South Americans Italians and Iberians joining the club. The club will never have felt so mediterranean. Plus as has already been mentioned it is believed on some internet blogs that Ramirez & co didn't wholly by into NA big dream and my have quickened his demise. So I don't think our big buys will leave but as for SRL I'm not so sure...........

Agree2 Disagree0

He can only register for to 2 epl clubs in a single season so clubs can bid for him

Agree1 Disagree0

We all agree NA has been treated shabbily, but given the decision was made weeks ago, he's left in the ascendant, not when stock at its lowest.
Had we employed Pochettino under different circumstance, we'd be saying it was an inspired choice. He might prove to be a bigger name to encourage signings (e.g. Verdu or Astori).
Back the side, COYR.

Agree5 Disagree0

Any manager with intelligence will see that Lambert is a gem you have to keep hold of. Big, good in the air, potent shooting ability, totally nerveless, and great positional sense and layoffs - he is such a complete player that if he had more pace he would be world-class.
He's also got himself up towards le Tiss hero territory in just a few years.
Surely MP wouldn't alienate the fans and damage the team by thinking it's OK to let him go.

Agree9 Disagree2

Any manager would keep lambert for if we need to hold the ball up alone, if that's not a trait he appreciates in a forward then he would keep him for his penalty taking alone

Espanyol forward rui fonte and winger simoa on way to saints

Believable8 Unbelievable5

You better be kidding! Espanyol are doing awful in the Spanish top flight we need better to stay up now.

Agree5 Disagree3

Although your point is based on nothing, rui fonte could happen, obviously being jose's brother.

Agree3 Disagree1

Espanyol had all their players sold whilst the new manager was there because they are more skint than the lot down the road. Pep Guadiola rates him, good enough for me. Cruel way for Nigel to go but there is no loyalty in big business, we all know that Cortese can be ruthless but that's him. He has put his money where his mouth is and as much as I rate Nigel it's the money that has been the thing that has got us where we are. Just one other thing Rickie was signed for us by Alan Pardew and could have been poached ages ago when he first went to Newcastle, he lives very near to me does Mr Lambert and has the odd pint in our local. I don't think he is going anywhere, he seems very happy with his lot down here and loves the area and I thinks he knows where he is best off. Thanks Nigel Adkins we owe you one us supporters you will be missed but your great legacy will continue for a long time to come.

Agree9 Disagree1

I think if you think that Rickie Lambert will hang around in the area to enjoy a pint with you then you are mistaken. Money talks. and his roots are in the Northwest...he's off, watch this space.

Agree1 Disagree5

Rui Fonte?!?!?! are you joking - Espanyol are doing terrible in La Liga and this guy isn't even first team quality for them let alone

Agree2 Disagree1

Did you also know that several of his family already live down south and have done for years. No rumour just fact. He is a clever boy who is 31 this year not going to get a great contract elsewhere, if I was him I think I'd know which side my breads buttered. Quality honest guy who I would guess was on a pretty good salary with us. He will I think finish his career here and then may be still part of the set up after that maybe with the academy.

Forren confirmed on Saints official twitter feed. Will be on OS later.

Believable11 Unbelievable1

Fingers crossed now all you 'true saints fans' grow up and start supporting the team instead of complaining! ok, the whole football world is shocked. but that doesn't mean you shouldn't get of your backside and go support the boys on monday, sing your heart out, and watch Lambert score some goals!! The world hasnt ended, so lets keep our club where they belong, in the Premier League!!!
COYR!! Nigel = LEGEND

Agree15 Disagree2

Totally agree with post above, however, let's not be assumptive here, the new manager may not play Lambert, who knows, what his thoughts are in relation to team selection!

Agree3 Disagree4

Well said mate.

Agree3 Disagree3

Not to be too disrespectful to Nigel he didn't play Rickie in quite a few of the games until we were behind at half time. We also had him playing on the wing quite often which I never understood. Give the new manager a chance we might find he uses Rickie more and uses his wonderful abilities to make him even more effective, then Premier League watch out. Nigel we really will miss you but the show must go on.

Agree4 Disagree3

If Cortese touches Lambert's contract.......

'Deep Breath!!' COYR!!

Agree3 Disagree2

Okay, so lamberts was a sub for a couple of games this year. but i'm sure nigel knew what he was doing! impact sub and it defo worked against city and chelsea!!

So, now that NC so shockingly sacked NA today, what transfer targets will the new boss have? Any thoughts?

Believable4 Unbelievable1

Well there was rumours at the start of january about coutinho he might prefer to como now as he work with him but not sure.

Agree2 Disagree2

Forren has officially signed

Agree5 Disagree0

Already signed Forren, implies Cortese is still running our transfer department. So I imagine we'll be back to the same old system of taking forever with whoever we go for.

Agree2 Disagree1

Forren has signed officialy

Agree2 Disagree1

Sacked.disgrace

Agree5 Disagree0

Forren signed

Agree1 Disagree1

Forren has signed

Agree3 Disagree1

New manager has been researching Southampton for weeks. Nigel stated he wasn't the person to be asking who was joining the Saints during his last interview for Saints player.

I would bet that Forren and all the other players we have been linked with were the new managers transfer targets anyway.

I'm totally gutted. Seeing the new guys interview made me Feel like I have just caught the Mrs with another man.

Agree16 Disagree1

Be very surprised if its NC who picks the players to sign, for me it's more likely that Les Reed is the fifth columnist at St Mary's. I also do not believe NC was picking the team as Gaston our marquee signing would never start on the bench and would play ever single minute of every single game. I'm not happy about it but I only hope when NA rules the world he acknowledges us the Southampton FC supporters who applauded cheered an chanted his name and doesn't as many today would quoting Oasis "look back in anger"

Agree2 Disagree2

It is obvious that the transfers are not being decided by the manager but by the board. Specifically Nicola Cortese. He signed Ramirez. He signed Forren. He sacked Adkins, which is sad because he was a great manager but let's support the team and see if NC is vindicated.

Hi, I've heard from my Dad's mate who gets lots of inside gossip as he knows people, like not saying this is definitely true, but rumor has it Cortese and Adkins had a massive argument last night because Cortese wanted to sell Rickie Lambert to Newcastle for a fairly large sum, and Adkins of course said no way. #OneNigelAdkins With Adkins gone, there is nothing preventing Cortese, which really worries me. I really do hope we don't lose the two best things about Southampton football club one after another. I am so shocked, and so upset about this.

JackForder
True Saint for 17 years

Believable5 Unbelievable9

New bloke has said he has been researching the squad for a few weeks so it has been in the pipeline for a while. Hope it goes well or things could well get nasty! While some of NA decisions left you scratching your head I believe we were all on the bus together but now the fans will expect results or else! Hope you are ready NC.

Agree7 Disagree0

If your information is correct, we are going down. Lambert is an incredibly good goal scorer and at this point who the hell are we expecting to get in to replace him for anything like a reasonable fee? Cortese is loosing it!

However I strongly suspect this has been a long time coming. Otherwise this manager switch wouldn't have happened so suddenly. I think Cortese has been trying to replace Adkins for a while and finally managed to get in a guy he wanted. I truly hope this turns out to not cost us our season, but this new guy needs to win over the locker room and the fans extremely quickly.

I am seriously worried he will fail to win over both. Adkins was very popular and will take some replacing. However I personally will give our new manager my backing. I don't really think it's his fault Cortese went to sack Adkins and I hope he has what it takes to save our skins. I know people will disagree with this statement but look, if it hadn't been him, someone else would've taken Adkins job. I imagine Cortese's mind has been made up for a while. The only man who should face the questioning is Cortese. We should continue to back our players and try to back our new manager for the sake of our league survival.

Agree9 Disagree2

Yeah I just heard this as a rumour so as its a rumour I posted it on the rumour page, and I really hope this isn't true! We've signed the centre back, Cortese has mugged Adkins off and I will never forgive that, but I guess this is football and we have no choice other than to get behind the Saints! We have to keep Lambert or we will go down! and I wish Nigel the best of times and he has allowed me to experience the best feelings of my life being promoted twice and running onto St Marys pitch!

Lets get behind the new gaffa though as it isn't his fault at all, and we are going to stay up and continue Adkins positivity and legacy

COYR

Agree8 Disagree1

The new manager will get my backing for the clubs sake please agree or disagree so we can get an idea of what things will be like ?

Agree14 Disagree5

Sorry, your Dads mate is wrong on this. You can't sign up a manager with less than 24 hours notice-this has been planned for some time.

Agree9 Disagree1

I m defo giving new gaffa support wouldn't be a true fan if I didnt, red and white through thick and thin. cortese has got big balls and big ambitions.

Agree7 Disagree2

I'm saying that it may have been the trigger or whatever, he knows quite a lot, knew they JayRod deal before it happened, and the Forren deal!

Agree1 Disagree2

Wouldnt surprise me. this is cortese after all

Agree1 Disagree1

I hope Nigel gets a job soon. I need a new team to support (unless Cortese goes next, he should sack himself for this blunder)

Agree5 Disagree7

Cortese a disgrace

Agree5 Disagree4

Surprised at the sacking of Atkins, but looking at the fact that Atkins was in his last year of his contract with the club, I think Cortese never saw him as a long term solution, and that when he found the manager he wanted he showed his hand. What surprises me most though is the timing of the sacking as le tissier said on tv why now, surely if he had a new manager lined up it would of made sense to announce it a few weeks ago.

Agree4 Disagree3

Well, if after two and a half years with ADKINS as manager, and you don't know his name, you are going to have a real problem with the new one!

Agree3 Disagree0

18 Jan 2013 13:51:54
To all fans around the country, many thanks for your kind words.

We Saints fans are shocked and disgusted by this decision from Cortese, god knows what will happen now.
If we get relegated it will be Cortese's head we will be after .

Saying that we need to get behind the team on Monday but also show our appreciation of Mr Adkins and what he did for our club.

Good luck Nigel, it will not be long before you are at
another club.

Confused Saint.

Believable12 Unbelievable1

Moan moan moan moan moan.

I bet you are one of the ones who moaned when Pardew was sacked and Adkins was appointed in the first place. We've spent in excess £30million, the 7th highest net transfer spend in Europe. We've hired a manager who is dubbed to be Real Madrids manager in the not too distant future.

Stop moaning and support Southampton FC. It's not Adkins FC. Cortese always does what is right for the club. This is progress. Get onboard or stop supporting Saints.

Agree9 Disagree9

I would too like to pass my thanks and best wishes to Nigel, thank you for all your hard work and getting us back to the premiership, you for me will always be a living legend and very much appreciated by us Saints fans.Ty #gutted

Agree10 Disagree1

Are you sure about the claim being
real next manager
have you looked at his record
it aren't all that

Agree1 Disagree6

Spanish journalist said today he thinks he will be real madrid or man united manager within 3 years.

Agree5 Disagree6

Not really the long term appointment we are being lead to believe if this is true then. This is a bad dream and I want to wake up now please!

Agree3 Disagree1

Lol, man you or rm manager within 3 years, the blokes a rubbish manager

Agree2 Disagree5

I heard that on the radio too. Guillerme Ballagué also had lots of good things to say about him. Looking forward to the rest of the window and the season. Sad to see NA go but I will support MP all the way. People like Perry McMillan and his SISA cronies who plan a protest on Monday should be denied entry to SMS. White hankies?! Really?! Mourn our loss over the weekend and get back to supporting the boys. I fully trust Cortese to keep us progressing, whether I agree with his methods or not, I can't deny they are working very well so far. Thanks Nigel and good luck.

Agree8 Disagree1

I like every other true saints fan am shocked and disgraced by Nigel Adkins losing his job. It's a travesty of justice that such a great manager lost his job. We had the potential for stability and continuity at saints.

However, like any true saints fan when I go to the match against Everton I'll still be cheering saints on. We cannot go the way of Chelsea where there players hate playing at their home ground.

We must take Adkins positivity forward, the only reason Pochettino 'failed' at Espanyol was a lack of resources whereas we do not have this issue.

Keep the faith. Keep supporting. In Adkins we trusted. March on forever more.

- TJ

Believable16 Unbelievable5

Couldn't agree move TJ. Every saints fan will be angry at this news, but we have to give the new fella a chance, otherwise we're bound for relegation.

We were all annoyed when Pardew got the sack, and confused when we signed the relatively unknown Adkins. That proved wildly successful, so maybe NC knows what he's doing.

Agree7 Disagree3

Toon fan here, can't believe Adkins is sacked . He was guiding you to saftey, strange decision, feel for you and him .Good luck.

Agree9 Disagree0

Couldn't agree anymore with everything said above. As a saints season ticket holder myself I will be there on Monday cheering the team on!
The decision to sack Adkins is morally completely wrong but from a business pont of view I can see why he has done it. For example if we had a big name manager in would we have already signed astori? most probably. The biggest problem Adkins had was he wasn't a big name to attract players! Even though he was a very good man manager and tactically adept sadly in the modern game that's not enough anymore.
I'm not convinced this new guy is the right person to do that but we will have to see I suppose!

Sunderland fan , CHAIRMEN of southampton haha you don't know what you are doing you are a joke feel sorry for your FANS

Agree5 Disagree5

DITTO shocked is not the word for it, my last chance to see him manage was at the Villa game, chanted his name, big wave back to the crowd, I really hope he is back in management shortly, Nigel give Blackpool a call, there need your experience and knowledge. Good Luck Nigel, Gutted your off!

Agree6 Disagree1

Well said mate

Echo that

CTS

Agree3 Disagree0

I think we owe a huge thanks to NA. What a top bloke. I think he must have known something before that Chelsea game. Watch the interview he did after the game. It's almost as though he is saying "look what we did" and a massive two fingers to someone. Even the celebrations at full time were a little "over the top"

Take a look at Pochettino though. I know quite a lot about Spanish football. This guy is OK. He had to leave his last club as he was fighting a battle against a board that was penny pinching and wanted to select sides (ooh that sounds a little familiar LOL). His win rate is not great but his sides did play nice football and is knows his stuff. My only concern is that this has happened when momentum was with us. Beaten twice in thirteen games. That's not a bad record by any standard.

Lets get behind the team Monday and not go down the Chelsea path with Benitez. That club is imploding and we are better than that. Lets toast NA but give the Pochettino a chance. None of this is his fault.

Agree6 Disagree1

Can't believe they sacked him......yipeee. All he deserves after the disrepectful comments he made about Celtic & Scottish football. The man has no class and obviously he's been found wanting talent wise as well. All you deluded Saints fans ..it's time foer a reality check.. enjoy you final few months in the BPL its back to the Championship next year. Celtic Bhoy

Agree3 Disagree8

Also, looks as though Forren may have signed. Love the way NC throws that curve ball into the mix LOL

Life is never dull as a Saints fan

Agree5 Disagree1

Nigel has been a true stalwart for southampton FC and its Fans. The culb was going in to meltdown financially he took over with no money and worked wonders. The fans Love him and the players seemed to want to achieve under him. a real football gentleman Thank you Nigel. As a SAINTS Fan I only hope the good work Nigel has done for the club won't be wittered away and that NC stands by his actions by empowring the new manager with a package that he can use to build on Nigels Legacy. MW

Agree1 Disagree1

Goes to show who IS buying the players just like guly ..

Agree2 Disagree1

Bye bye Lambert, Shaw and Puncheon hello expensive foreign imports

Agree4 Disagree6

To say I am appalled is an understatement!!
In order to fight a relegation battle the need to galvanise the players and the fans is essential. I believe Nigel achieved this and the signs were good, culminating in a superb come back against the Chelsea superstars in their own back yard.
What have you done Cortese?
Nigel, we all wish you well. I hope you go on to bigger and better things. Although hurting at the moment, I am sure you will be relieved now that the shackles of Cortese have been removed.

Agree1 Disagree3

Adkins next job apparently is to go to Leeds and bring up another club, hopefully he will get a proper chance once there in the prem though!

Agree2 Disagree1

Good man. I think we should also only sing 'theres only one Nigel Adkins' at appropriate times and Monday night is not one.

"Southampton Football Club has appointed Mauricio Pochettino as First Team Manager having relieved Nigel Adkins of his duties. #saintsfc"

We are bound to go down now! This is rubbish. Absoloutly rubbish.

Believable7 Unbelievable11

I can't believe they have done this. 2 defeats in 13 games. 4 Points off 10th and easy upcoming games. I have lost all faith in Southampton and I expect us to fall in to deep troubles.

Agree8 Disagree8

I am sure none of us agree with this but, come Monday, we have to get behind the boys. We don't want the same as what is happening at Chelsea's home matches. Absolutely disgusted by the treatment of Adkins though - he deserved a lot better than this after all he has done for the club.

Agree6 Disagree5

What an absolute disgrace. P off Cortese. Liebherr wouldn't have wanted this.

Aussie Saint

Agree7 Disagree6

Even as a Forest fan, I find this incredible. Feel sorry for you, best of luck to you for the rest of the season :(

Agree9 Disagree3

Well done cortese.
New manager with a poor record.
New ideas. Time to bed in whilst the team try and re adjust.
What happens to new signings now. Is that it for them?

That's us relegated then.

Agree5 Disagree5

For the love of god why! We have just found our feet, great results and we looked like we were on the up.

I would have expected this of Lowe but not Cortese.

Agree8 Disagree2

This is coming from a celtic fan that is terrible adkins has did fantastic your 3 points above relegation and got a great chance of staying up this guy guided use to back to back promotions I think you will end up going down now because of this it will be shock to the players as well

Agree4 Disagree3

I am a Newcastle fan, and I feel for the Southampton fans and Nigel, I really hope your season doesn't fall apart. But if I remember when Pardew was there he had nothing to work with almost got you promoted and was sacked for his efforts, your board mustr be as fickle as ours.

Agree5 Disagree4

WOW what a fool your chairman must be, I saw Adkins here at Scunthorpe many times he's got something about him and after steering you third from bottom in League 1 to back to back promotions and the possibility of keeping you in the Premier League you treat him like this. Shame on you Southampton!

Agree4 Disagree2

Sticks head above parapet - prepares to be flamed......

Have to admit to not being happy about this, but you have to believe that NC DOES have the future of Saints as his primary focus even though the decision may not seem logical, sensible or even sane right now.

I have been recently softening my opinion of NA, having thought of him as not having the tactical depth to find success in the EPL. Perhaps NC has different opinions to mine (no surprise, for me it's a 'game', but for him it's a business). You have to admit though, that sometimes our lads have seemed at a loss as to what to do next in a game and that's down to coaching.

Only time will tell if our new Coach is going to be a good 'un but, despite what we may feel about this and about NA, and he has my absolute respect for what he has achieved for us, we do have to move on and look forwards.

Mind you what would really hack me off is if this was another 'Lowe-type' "I'm in control, I am Southampton FC" excercise.

My missus is blazing right now, talking about boycotts etc - me, I say let's see what happens. Let's see if we do play 'better' or 'different'. Monday night is going to be 'challenging' though!

There is going to be a lot of pressure on our boys right now so let us show them that they have our support. Last thing I would want to see is for all this bad feeling to sink into a 'Chelsea boo'

We're here for the journey, wherever it may take us. We are all Saints fans now and I for one will ALWAYS be a Saints fan, irrespective of who the manager is, irrespective of what league we're in.

Block34

Agree8 Disagree1

What on earth are we doing. We should be showing loyalty to Nigel after two promotions and good from now in the Prem. I am beginning to think Cortese is a psychopath.

Agree4 Disagree2

Shell shocked, never saw that one coming ! Think cortese want s continental manager to attract cheaper and better continental players, love him or hate him cortese s got big plans and big ball s . I loved nige, but onwards and upwards sfc, three big signings coming our way !

Agree6 Disagree0

Looking at your last six games and position in the league. I find it utter madness to sack Adkins. To then replace him with Pochettino given his successful track record seems clueless.

(Liverpool fan)

Agree4 Disagree1

Pardew had plenty to work with mate.

Agree6 Disagree0

As an Everton fan, may I also say what a disgraceful decision. Absolutely shocking. Saints fans deserve better than this. From physio to manager in a few yrs and League 1 to PL and doing a great job for you. Looked like he was keeping you up, now I'm not so sure. All the best for the rest of the season aside from Monday of course ;-)

Agree7 Disagree2

Cortese can have my season ticket back. would rather go and watch bournemouth, eastleigh or even the blue few rather than be a part of this now.

Agree1 Disagree8

Disgraceful, but agree with earlier comment we saw what happened to Chelsea and all the furore with Benitez replacing di matteo they can no longer play at home and can feel the pressure. We need to get behind the team and not the board

Agree2 Disagree0

We Southampton FC should have died in 2009. Was the price for PL football really worth our souls?

Agree4 Disagree2

"Liebherr wouldn't have wanted this." - and you speak with the dead do you? Remember Markus had every faith in Nicola Cortese so I suggest we do likewise.

Agree6 Disagree1

Cortese your a fool. Things start to work and go in the right direction and you go and rock the ship. Nice one knob. Right at a critical time. So will the new players coming in play as the new manager wants them to do? Or did that not even cross your mind? Go back to banking or won't they want some one as stupid as you back?

Agree1 Disagree6

Firstly I wish Nigel all the best, and though I am shocked at his sacking, we need to get behind the team and the new manager just the same as if adkins was still there

Agree4 Disagree0

Fans up and down the country can not understand this good luck nigel a good man hopefully in work soon (A FOREST FAN) good luck saints fans

Agree2 Disagree0

Liebherr had high ethical and moral values when it came to business so it is fair to say that he would not have wanted this. Not only the sacking of Adkins but also the way it has been handled. Cortese has been with Pochettino for the last week - the results against Villa and Chelsea were irrelevant

Agree2 Disagree1

Bankers are generally far stupider than Cortese. This from having worked with a few of them a while ago. Cortese has made an appalling decision but we can't go blaming the team for this. It's not Lallana's fault, or Lambert's, or Shaw's or any other one of our players. We can't go booing them for Cortese's decision. Cortese has been unbelievably foolish though. Adkins was poised to guarantee us survival, if we go down I hope the Leibherr family sack Mr. Cortese!

Agree0 Disagree2

Not a Saints fan but I thought was doing a great job in building a team that could hold its own in the prem, I hope now that it comes to bite the greedy owners on the arse and the club goes into meltdown..instant success > it don't exist..pity these fools in charge can't see it !

Agree1 Disagree2

I spoke to billy sharp at just as he was heading to forest and he said cortese wanted him gone and wantwd a foreign manager in. I thought it was him being a little upset having to leave but I guess he was right. Gutted.

Agree1 Disagree0

I find it absolutely disgraceful that Adkins was sacked and Cortese already had someone lined up! This is a terrible day and I feel so sad for Nigel. Did Cortese not hear all the fans singing "theres only one Nigel Adkins" at every game. Cortese may be the next Rupert Lowe i'm afraid

Agree0 Disagree3

I have to say I am as shocked by this as everyone else. Most of us enjoyed our Bus ride with Nigel, and will be eternally grateful for everything he has managed to achieve.

To coin a phrase from our beloved NA though, we need to 'Draw a line under this, and focus on the next game'

My wife (who has worked in management all her life) has had a sneaky feeling that this was coming - indeed we had a row about it only last week. She believed that Saints was struggling to bring in the right type of player, and we would do far better in the transfer market with a more established manager.

Some people are saying this chap has an awful record, but they aren't seeing the whole picture, and this chap has been widely reported that he is one of the brightest managerial candidates in Europe.

Every thing that Mr Cortese has said he will do, he has done, and while I'm not happy that Nigel has gone, I don't think there are any Saints fans out there that can say that Nicola has made a bad managerial appointment yet.

I wish Nigel all the best for the future. One thing for sure is that he won't be unemployed for long, and will probably come back to bite us in the future.

For now we need to get behind the team. They are probably more shocked than we are, and we need to show the players that we are behind them!

Agree4 Disagree0

Agree with all you say, I just hope he learns to speak good English very swiftly otherwise I won't be a fan (of him that is)

Agree1 Disagree1

At Newcastle fan, I'm pretty sure Pardew was sacked for some naughty business behind the scenes.

Also heard that Pardrew was sacked for naughty business which I why I find it amusing when I hear Lambert is going to Newcastle, not unless they sack their manager

Agree1 Disagree0

Yes Adkins looked to be 'keeping us up' but the fact is the chairman expects more and why shouldn't we.

Genuinely rate NA and sincerely wish him the best. Lots said about NC buying the players but more likely positions in need of strengthening are identified and the identification left to Les Reed and the buying only to the chairman.

Sports Mole are reporting that Adkins has been sacked! I sincerely hope this is total BS!

This is a joke! adkins was best man for the job! we will get relegated now.adkins had the right tactics and right ideas for the club.how is this new guy gunna help the youngsters like shaw?! Sad day for saints fans

Agree4 Disagree1

This is a footballing tragedy how can you replace possibly the best manager saints have ever had for a European nobody :(

Agree4 Disagree1

This is not the way to treat the man that has brought us back to where we belong! I thought this constant manager change had stopped since Rupert Lowe had finally left! This has left me extremely disheartend as I'm sure it has for a lot of others! But never the less our red white army will march on!

Agree3 Disagree1

Of course we will always back our boys but this is a disgace.i doubt he speaks a word of english.we pride ourselves on our youth system and for all we know this guy may sell our top youngsters and replace them wiv argentinians that we've never heard of.wel be lucky to stay up!

Some Norweigen media have announced Southampton have agreed a £3.5M deal with Molde for Vergard Forrn and the player has agreed a 4 1/2 year deal at St Marys.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

English media are reporting the same thing. Forren will be unveiled as a Saint today.

Nigel Adkins is to be relieved of his duty and replaced with Mauricio Pochettino.
Spannish media are convinced this will happen. And rumours gathering pace in England too. Was in the Mirror and the Star this morning. That's doesn't mean much, but still it's a start

Believable6 Unbelievable6

Nc would have a riot on his hands if he did this!

Agree1 Disagree4

I have heard from a mate on that Adkins has been sacked today. Better not be true, has anybody else heard this carp?

Agree3 Disagree3

It's not true till it's printed in the Echo

Agree0 Disagree4

Surely not. There would be an uproar if he were sacked.

Aussie Saint

Agree3 Disagree2

If this happens I will be exteeeeemeeeely unhappy. He is a fantastic manager and is only going to get better. This argy has been sacked from espanyol for a POOR run of performances. Please NC don't do it.

Agree2 Disagree1

I posted this last night, but it wasnt shown on this site. its only if things get bad in 2nd half of season, other wise NA will be fine - chris

Agree0 Disagree3

Lol gotta laugh at this bull. Even if Adkins was going to get the sack, NC doesn't talk to the media. Nobody at Southampton FC do. So even if he did get sacked the media wouldn't know about it first. We just drew at Chelsea and have been playing brilliantly recently. If Adkins went there would be an uproar.

Agree4 Disagree4

There was some rumours last week before the villa game..... Something going on

CTS

Agree2 Disagree1

They say there is no smoke without fire, however, considering Saints usual procedure NOT to provide any information publically until the event is offically announced, I think this latest rumour should not be entirely dismissed but be taken with a serious pinch of salt - it's likely just the Daily Fail using up some spare photos and column inches - hopefully!

Agree1 Disagree0

To the person saying about Saints not talkin to the media. That's true. But this story has come from the Spannish end. Of course could be agent drumming up interest in a manager.
But just doesn't feel that way

Agree1 Disagree1

If Adkins was close to the sack he would have been sacked months ago when we were playing badly. Not when we have just drawn at the Bridge and won at Villa!

Agree1 Disagree4

Blimey, on the Saints website, Adkins has been sacked
