I just read that Danny Ings is now free to speak to both Newcastle & Saints after both clubs matched Burnleys' valuation of him.
We've got to be favourites to sign him.
Looks like we might have some strength in depth and dare I say it a Plan B for next season if Pellè comes and Osvaldo comes back without his head up his arse!

Believable9 Unbelievable5

I wouldn't be so sure about him choosing us over Newcastle, yes he supports us but they'll offer him more money. Particularly seeing as we're looking to make financial gains wherever possible at the moment.

Agree6 Disagree10

^ why are people convinced the owners just want to use us to make money, they wouldn't have done the work at the stadium if that was the case - the lights and extra drainage are a pretty big cost that's non essential

Anyway I agree that ings probably wouldn't choose us, not on the money front but apparently he's said he's reluctant to play for us

Agree4 Disagree3

Not a rumour but would love it to be, the best player I have seen at the world cup is Alexis Sanchez. Silly I know but you could at least ask Barca just for the hell of it. If we want to be up there with the big boys we have to aim to get players of his quality. If we won't or can't then the Champions League dream will never happen. We must put Southampton on the map internationally to attract these type of players, we were just doing that and then the exodus occurred. Back to the drawing board I'm afraid.

Agree2 Disagree6

Can I ask why you think he would be reluctant to play for us? Is it his desire for Europe or something closer to home

Agree1 Disagree0

Alexis Sanchez? Lol
The club are building for the future. Not next season. With the appointment of sammy lee and Watson shows our ambition. They want to restructure the academy so the kids are playing the southampton way from the moment they sign up. This to me indicates they are looking long term, to produce more youngsters and attract more as well. Any youngster out there looking at shaw and lallana will want to join our academy.
Eventually we will be churning out more English youngsters than we can sell. That will bring success. Not overpaid foreigners

Agree2 Disagree1

Point taken but we won't stay in the Premier League waiting for the academy to sort us. The EPL is big business and to succeed you need to employ the big guns, sorry but true.

Agree1 Disagree1

It's not my opinion that he'd be reluctant to play for us, it's just something I've heard from a few sort of itk people and one of the eds on here has said it too I think. I personally wouldn't want us to sign him, he's had a good season but I think he's still got to prove alot, especially if the 10 million figure is correct

Agree0 Disagree0

Great post Saintsmiff, that's exactly the plan going forward regarding youth.

if Manchester United sign vidal Southampton will ask utd for fellaini on loan if arsenal or spurs buy schneiderlin they will go for witsel there rumours that they want a st with prem experience. the old rumour that jay rodriguez will follow his old manager to spurs is more than likely in January

Believable1 Unbelievable22

That all sounds like it came off the top of your head. Recycled stuff from this page and newspapers jumbled up together.

Agree8 Disagree2

Can only see Morgan going to arsenal or abroad

Agree6 Disagree2

Just a quick one to SaintPhil about Rickie. I do know that nobody has knocked him about leaving but just wonder what the difference between him and Lallana is, still just left no matter what. I remember when Hoddle left to manage the Spuds everybody sent him hate male and when he was considering a comeback to manage Saints again the fans vocally blocked any chance of that happening. That was all about the boyhood dream and home club thing. Just think everybody's being a bit tough on AL, he gave us great service and just could not resist the chance of his life. I do believe you would do the same SaintPhil. I come in peace by the way just a different opinion. Cheers.

Lallana has taken out a 1 page ad in tomorrows Daily Echo to say his farewells to the fans.

Believable6 Unbelievable5

Hopefully the saints fans won't be taken in by all the rubbish that he will be spouting has not gone to improve career gone solely for money same as shaw wish rickie all the best class act but shaw and lallana are a disgrace and the fans are not as stupid and gullable as they might think onwards and upwards

Agree9 Disagree6

Sad to see him go and he deserves a shot at the big time. Saints will be there in 3/4 years. At least he has bothered to do anything. Coyr

Agree8 Disagree7

Not too bothered about Shaw leaving, at least he didn't come out with all the 'I love the club, I want to be here for my career' soon before demanding his exit.

Agree7 Disagree3

Saintphil, I think you hit the nail on the head there, it's the outright contradiction that has cheesed me off.

Agree5 Disagree1

Get over it guys, all this stuff about loyalty and promises. He's a 26 year old guy with probably one big transfer left in his life. The club did well out of the deal. So he said something and then he changed his mind. Wouldn't you have done the same with the offer of champions league football and £100k a week,

How loyal do you really expect him to be with that offer (which the club chose to accept). He did a great job for us. Wake up.

Agree7 Disagree3

He didn't say something and then change his mind, he's said on the liverpool site he was looking at a big transfer all season

Agree4 Disagree2

After reading lallanas, Clattenburg has taken out an advert also in the Echo saying "I Told you so".

Agree12 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that was a good one!}

It's just a big picture of himself really - not much more.

Agree4 Disagree0

To be honest Shaw has the ability to play at the very top, Lallana has been at the club for such a long time we should be thanking him not slating, Lambert deserves his move but no more than Adam, if Spider goes then best luck to him he played his part in getting Saints to the Prem and Lovren hasn't handed in a transfer request and I doubt he will leave if he is offered Captaincy

I saw in a greek sports website, that there's interest from Southampton for Greek National "Jose Holebas". He's made some really good games in the world cup against Cote D'Ivoire & Costa Rica.
He plays at Left Back, and can cover the whole wing. On the downside he's 30. His team (Olympiacos) had set his price at 2m GBP, but after the good WC matches they'll probably ask for about 3.

Believable4 Unbelievable6

At 30, he could be a good role model to Targett, who would provide a season or two of development for Targett who would then in all likelihood go on to replace him. So looked at like that, a 30 yr old left back might not be too bad.

Agree6 Disagree2

I like this idea as a short-term fix for the left back position while Targett grows into the position. I think Cholebas is a solid, attacking left back.

Agree4 Disagree1

Think he could be good for us until target develops

Agree3 Disagree1

If we go for a mentor then go for Ashley Cole not some Greek dude who has never been near the Perm.

Agree7 Disagree5

Cole would be good, at the very least Targett would learn how to use an air rifle.

Agree8 Disagree1

I was thinking get cole earlier now is free from Chelsea how ever his wage demands may be huge

Agree6 Disagree3

I think you will find the youngsters name is Matty TAGGART!!

Agree1 Disagree13

01 Jul 2014 19:29:49
Got to say I agree. This bloke hasn't played in the premiership and to expect him at 30 to hit the ground running is a bit tough.

Agree4 Disagree2

No it's Targett

Agree6 Disagree0

I think you'll find it's Matty Targett

Holebas is a player Olympiacos was eager to sell since last year. They didn't find a club for him then, even though they were only asking for 2m, and both the fans and the board was really dissapointed with that. I doubt he could really help your team this year, even though he played good in the WC. Those good perfomances were pretty much his own personal attempt to prove all greeks that didn't believe in him so far.

ps. i'm an Olympiacos fan , that really like the Saints, and would love to see Holebas sold.

According to many dutch newspapers, the signing of Dusan Tadic is imminent. A fee of about £12 million has been accepted and he is now going to fly over to complete a medical. Also, talks are ongoing with Graziano Pelle as a bid of about £8 million has been accepted but personal terms are still not complete.

Believable10 Unbelievable3

01 Jul 2014 15:50:06
Saw on newsnow that he is apparently going to fly out tomorrow. Does he have a lot of potential for us?

Agree4 Disagree1

Being a bit pedantic here but it's Euros not Pounds according to the Dutch papers so costs a fair bit less really.

Agree4 Disagree1

I'm gutted we've sold our players, this has all happened before and look where we are now. the fact we're being linked with pelle, tadic, witsel, is amazing!

Agree8 Disagree1

On skysports that we've agreed a fee for Tadic. hope this is true

Agree6 Disagree1

01 Jul 2014 16:47:33
I've also seen it on Sky and they're usually correct.

Agree5 Disagree0

If we've sold Lallana for £25 million and replaced him with for Tadic €12 and Witsel for £14. 5 i'll actually wet myself with joy.

Agree9 Disagree1

01 Jul 2014 12:28:22
Schneiderlin doesn't want to leave. All he means is that if a top club come in for him he'd like the chance to hold talks with them, but I think he will be offered the captaincy and a bumper new contract to convince him to stay. And Dejan Lovren handing in a transfer request is complete nonsense, its very simular to Schneiderlin. I think we can all respect that, but what we can't respect is Adam Lallana basically going on strike and Luke Shaw handing in a transfer request 10 minutes after the last game of the season ended. Axel Witsel coming in, has anybody got any info on it? Also heard Danny Ings is all but a Southampton player and David Marshall is interested in coming too.

Believable12 Unbelievable9

01 Jul 2014 12:45:21
I think, sadly, that you are dreaming Jamie. #OurDreamIsReal #ItsHappening
#ButNotAsWeImagined

Agree6 Disagree9

Although lallana has done a lot for the club means nothing to me, as soon as the club needed him most as everyone else was leaving he just jumps off, he should have stayed and set an example, what a true club legend or captain would/should do

Agree11 Disagree1

01 Jul 2014 13:03:02
Can you elaborate on the Ings transfer? Looks like Witsel might come or £14.8million too.

Agree2 Disagree3

Oh, come on, let's be realistic here.
Shaw wanted to leave last summer
Lallana agitated for a move
Morgan wants a move; he has been admitting it in the media
Lovren is likely to want a move (can't confirm this)
Chambers is being linked with Spurs.
Why do fans stick their heads in the sand when it comes to player loyalty?

This isn't a surprise nor isn't a drama. Southampton appointed a good manager, the club is well run and there is money to spend.

The club will never be top 4 but there is so much promise, as long as fans get real

Agree13 Disagree5

01 Jul 2014 14:28:47
I completely agree Fatdave. This isn't a surprise at all.

I think Chambers will stay, but Morgan and Lovren want to go and will go.

We are being heavily linked with a number of good quality replacements, Tadic, Pelle, Immers, Kongolo & Guidetti etc. I sure others will also arrive to give us far more strength in depth than last season.

Coaching team looks strong, all is well, a little patience is all that is required.

Agree5 Disagree3

They all want to go, so is there any truth in the rumour that players did not get their bonuses as NC promised? If this is true, no wonder they want to leave. You can't go back on a promise of bonuses then not pay out!

Agree5 Disagree5

Yes true, bonuses weren't paid

Agree4 Disagree3

Sorry, but if bonuses weren't paid wouldn't the players be taking the club to court for breach of contract?

Agree8 Disagree0

01 Jul 2014 17:27:40
Suspect these "bonuses" were not in their contracts, but a promise by someone without the authority to do so. I have seen it before in business, and whether they get paid is a matter of whether the persons in authority finally believe they were reasonable although unauthorised.
Lesson in this-always make certain any such promises are deliverable. (For all we know this could have been "agreed" in an alcoholic haze!)

Agree5 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - you are correct, they were not contractual bonuses, which was one of the main reasons Cortese was removed from his position. It was felt he should not have been making those kind of promises and had over reached himself. Unfortunately, and understandably from a player's point of view who finds that a promise is not being adhered to, and also understandable from the club's point of view as they were not responsible for those promises, it has led to unhappiness amongst the players. Doesn't mean they can't continue to perform their role with the club though, the players at Blackpool continued to play while in the middle of a court case with the club over unpaid bonuses.}

Personally I stated bonuses should have been paid if promised how ever I think it would be intresting to see who doesn't make a fuss works hard and still wants to be here then pay them some compensation even if it's only quarter the bonus cortesse offered

Official. Lallana has gone.

Believable12 Unbelievable6

Good. Once he had decided he wanted to leave it was always best for the club to shift him out ASAP for the best price. Now the remaining players can focus on pre season and Reed can concentrate on strengthening. Definitely didn't want this dragging on any longer. COYR

Agree13 Disagree1

Good!he's already yesterday's old news
Bring forth the days of big Ron!
And let's shut up all are haters!
(THIS IS SOUTHAMPTON AND WE ARE THE SAINTS!!!!!)

Agree14 Disagree2

He has turned into a big head fwit since called for England.

I am glad to see him go, no honour with any mention of Saints just how great Liverpool are. Stated at the end of season dinner that he wanted to stay at this special club so you can't trust a word he says.

Agree16 Disagree2

I'm glad he's finally gone. We don't need players who aren't 100% behind the club. It's sad that three of the English lads we became so proud of have deserted us (though I don't begrudge Rickie his dream move). They'll inevitably be replaced with foreign alternatives to get us through this transition, but we have a wealth of homegrown talent coming through the ranks and in a season or two we'll be stronger than ever and the main provider to the national team.

Agree8 Disagree2

I wasn't one of the Lallana haters but just seen an interview and not once did he thank the club for helping him to progress to where he has got.
Agreed he does sound a little self important now so let's see how he settles in once a bit of Sterling's influence had rubbed off.
Its a shame to end on a sour note with him. He's been great for us and I still hope he doesn't fail. Just wouldn't mind him failing in the first match.

Agree6 Disagree3

Your right clattenburg, he has changed. I thought he was going to be a club legend.

Agree8 Disagree1

What this really shows is not Lallana's lack of loyalty but the naivety of football fans.
Pledging allegiance, kissing football shirts, signing new contracts blah blah. All meaningless.
What matters is how the club manages the future.

Agree9 Disagree2

As much as I hate Lallanna he has thanked everyone at southampton. Watch the video.

Still hate the way he has got his move though. He obviously does not care for the saints like he led us to believe!

Agree2 Disagree2

Speaking to one of the Ex-Saints players at the weekend, I was told that AL had been stirring things up at the club since the end of season and seemed to have a thing against Saints for not trying to keep MP.

Agree6 Disagree0

I really wish some of our fans will start too GROW UP. Yes to you Southampton and football is an unrivaled passion and you want to see all of our players share that. But remember to them it is a JOB!! They are not necessarily supporters of the club, they may love to work for the club but that is what they are doing WORKING!

If you were offered over twice the salary to do the same job at a different company, would you really stay where you are? I mean honestly, let's not forget they all have career development on their minds exactly the same as we all do. Put aside your own passion for 1 minute and look at it from this point and I think we would all make the same decision in our careers.

I am not saying the way he went about his transfer is right, but I would act the same way if someone from my work was blocking a life changing career move!

Agree8 Disagree1

BedfordshireSaint, I like your pragmatic approach. It has certainly reframed my thinking. We are fans passionate and true and well, yes it is a job to most, but not all players.
However, I will not be applauding AL when he steps out at St Mary's wearing a LFC shirt.

Agree6 Disagree0

BedforshireSaint I don't think anyone begrudges him a move if he wants it.

Its the way he has gone about it and his quotes after that have got peoples back up.

Agree7 Disagree0

I have said this before and will say it again, we should turn our backs to him when he does the usual meaningless clap to our fans (if he does) because you know it won't be heart felt. What amazes me is the lack of loyalty after he has been looked after by us since he was 12, it's not like he was bought a couple of years ago, this club invested a lot into him, financially and emotionally, he was idolised by the fans, they believed his nonsense. I agree with Clattenburg too, he has got a bit too big for his boots since he started playing for England. I am sure that the likes of Gerrard turned his head and Rogers probably got him to do it too

just seen lallana report on meridian
what great england players in liverpool team
is that why we came home early from the world cup
not a good player amongst them or Manchester United while on the subject of great plyers
11 flops more like it and you ll be in the same boat as them because you won't improve anymore

Southampton are expected to bid for Virgil Van Dijk of Celtic and hope to sign the 6ft 4 defender. There is nterest from Newcastle and Sevilla but Southampton, with their war chest and pay a premium price and can beat off other suitors. If this is true and we get Virgil Van Dijk, would this be a good signing?

Believable17 Unbelievable4

This would be great. I hope so, good player

Agree11 Disagree3

May need some significant strengthening at CB even if Lovren stays. Big Ron loves a 5-2-1-2 so having a strong pool of CBs is imperative. Would be a great signing.

Excellent player but Man U are apparently very keen on him. I know the manager has said he wants to keep him but will invite 'silly bids'

Agree3 Disagree3

Well one thing is for sure, we need to sign someone soon, a decent signing to stop the other s also jumping ship, 17 first team players and counting.
