Looks like we will sign victor Wayama for a fee of about £12 million. Apparently Nicola cortese has been approaching Celtic for Wanyama for a few weeks now and Wanyama will be able to speak to the club soon.

£12million! I'm a bit concerned by that. I thought £10million was was a bit of a stretch. Yes he's good but I'd have thought he should be cheaper really.

Agree4 Disagree7

If we get him for 12 million, then that's a bargain. He's reported to be worth a whopping 25 million.

Agree9 Disagree1

I am as well but only time will tell and he is very young

Agree0 Disagree3

Believe me, £12m is a very good price. When he proves himself in the premier league I wouldn't be surprised if he's worth double that! He's only 21 and he already has 25 Caps for Kenya and he's there captain! :)

Mini-Saint

Agree7 Disagree0

He will end up going to arsenal. I get the feeling we are being used to generate a bidding war

Agree5 Disagree3

Holy cow. 25 caps for Kenya!

Do barca know about this fella.

Agree5 Disagree2

Plays in a pub league. Risky at that price. Competition for Lambert a higher priority.

Agree3 Disagree6

I think you will find Arsenal are after Fellaini.

Agree3 Disagree1

Yes barca do know abt this platee he ran there midfield ragged the last time they played iniesta and Xavi got tgrough abt off this guy he's an animal and technicaly gifted

Apparently billy sharp didn't have a medical at reading after all?

Believable10 Unbelievable2

Yeah he announced it on his twitter

Agree5 Disagree1

He may be trying to throw people off of the fact he failed a medical in order to try to keep other clubs interested.

Agree3 Disagree2

No! It means he really is going to Accrington Stanley.!:)

Agree5 Disagree1

It would be entertaining if he did join Accrington but I'd be a bit concerned about the low fee we'd probably get the following summer if we managed to sell him then. {Ed003's Note - pompous }

Agree0 Disagree1

It just means that even if its in all the papers and all the so called 'reliable sources' from journalists and others on twitter. 90% of it is bulls**t

Agree1 Disagree0

What ed just said. Billy Sharp was great/awesome for us, albeit for a relatively short time. How soon people forget. I'm Still livid at the fact that some people on other forums want to see Lambert and lallana completely replaced this window for not doing enough last season. Surely 15 goals is enough to warrant a stab at the next season. Some of our 'fans' need to get a grip. (IMO)

Agree3 Disagree2

He said he didn't have a medical, doesn't mean he didn't go to Reading

Agree1 Disagree0

Funnily enough he actually tweeted "I haven't had no medical" which means he did have one. Just sayin'.

Agree3 Disagree0

Actually his twitter post implies that he did have a medical, use of a double negative "I haven't had no medical at Reading", meaning he has had one!

saints interested in jesus zavala of CF Monterrey. 25 year old, mexican defensive midfielder, believed to be offering competition to Schniederlin, Cork and Prowse

Believable4 Unbelievable10

Very, very good player, but Mexican agent-talk is ridiculous, so there's probably nothing in this.

Agree3 Disagree0

Jesus. That would make up a great Saints triumvirate of Best, Pele & now Jesus, not to mention his "Dad', Le God!

Southampton have 60 million to spend this summer, lovren 8 million, gamez 4 million, Wanyama 10 million, Stoch 5 million, Banega 8 million, Osvaldo 15 million {Ed016's Note - Wanyama is desperate for CL, he wont go to Southampton}

Believable12 Unbelievable16

Think we already have good enough central midfielders. We can't just push players that did well last season out by buying more foreign players. Agree we need a full back who can play on the right and left, winger and striker though

Agree3 Disagree2

Invest in success

Agree3 Disagree2

Haha 60m? Some of our fans are either stupid or deluded

Agree4 Disagree9

£4million for Gamez? Signing Osvaldo? I think you are making things up. Also Wanyama could sign for Southampton. Not sure how likely it is but if he believes in the project sold by Cortese he could be playing Champions league again soon anyway.

Agree3 Disagree3

Ed he has done champs league with celtic the challenge will be to get there with saints at the end of the day the best thing for him to do is come to saints and become a better player in a better league

Agree8 Disagree3

AS Roma's Osvaldo to saints was tipped in the Italian press. At 27 he doesn't fit our profile, but he could certainly do a job for us.

Osvaldo was previously at Espanyol, so it's isn't too hard to see where the rumors have come from, but the club are looking to sell him.

Just read you've bid £7.5m for Ever Banega. I'm an everton fan but I've got to admit, it looks like you'll have a dangerous squad next year: Shaw, Lovren, Ramirez, Lallana, Wanyama, Banega and especially Schneiderlin; all excellent players. Bright times ahead for you boys.

AB1878

Believable33 Unbelievable3

Cheers
lets see if this happens though

Agree16 Disagree2

Is it only me who though Boruc was one of the best keepers in the premiership last year? And hopefully this season we will do well and push for top 10!

Agree20 Disagree10

Don't forget Rickie, he will still be dangerous next season

Agree9 Disagree4

Cheers for the comment and good luck under Martinez. I agree Boruc was incredible when he returned to the squad for the Arsenal game onwards (despite his few early spills against Arsenal). I am not sure how many of these players will join though as well as not sure how many un-mentionned players will join us as Cortese is good at keeping secrets.

Agree3 Disagree0

Good luck to everton next season best club on Merseyside from a saints fan {Ed030's Note - haha,I don't thinks so mate . }

Agree3 Disagree1

Where did Liverpool finish. League table don't lie {Ed030's Note - So lets go by league tables so Stoke are better than Southampton. }

Agree3 Disagree1

Finished above the reds nuff said. let's see u put this up on the site then. {Ed030's Note - No problem. }

Agree2 Disagree0

Haha ed030 last to seasons beg to differ {Ed030's Note - Liverpool will always be the biggest team on Merseyside what do you class as 'best club' it could mean biggest,Most successful,Biggest fan base all of which Everton will come on where near Liverpool.Liverpool gross nearly twice as much as Everton even in our less successful seasons,But my point is with Liverpool gaining stability and building,Everton have lost there manager and will look to introduce a new playing style so I think Liverpool will be the more successful of the Merseyside clubs. }

Agree3 Disagree1

Boruc was great but his distribution wasn't the best.

Agree1 Disagree0

I don't think you can call Everton the bigger club whoever you are. Liverpool have the bigger fan base and are much better known globally. May not be the case for ever but Everton have a lot to do if they want to become the more famous of the two. I like both the Merseyside clubs personally because they both play good football.

Also think we are growing as a team and will show ourselves with a better finish than Stoke next season. Signings like Lovren show the ambition just hope we can show the league we aren't just some little club by giving a big name a run for a top spot. I'd love for us to get into a 6th/7th/8th battle with Liverpool and Everton (assuming neither get that close to Europe again but any of the teams in the top 7 last season would be great to be challenging for those spots even if we came 8th in the end just below the big 7).

Agree2 Disagree0

Another Liverpool history lesson yes you were ONCE the biggest and best club in the world but that was 30 years ago all you lot are now is a top 7 club it must hurt knowing that a club like everton with not a lot of money finished above you live for the present forget the past

Southampton are close to completing the signings of Victor Wanyama and Miroslav Stoch from Celtic and Fenerbache for a combined fee of 15 million. They are also lookign to add Banega to the squad as a centre attacking midfielder and also a right back and a striker. {Ed016's Note - Wanyama is a no way}

According to the mirror. We are to make a 15 million double signing of wanyama and stoch
Thoughts?

Believable12 Unbelievable7

Would love it if its true. That's a decent price for those 2 as well.

Agree9 Disagree2

Wanyama would be a good signing, very disciplined holding midfielder with C/L experience. Would break up play well and give Schniederlin and Ramires freedom to be creative. Also good to have more competition for places in the engine room.

Agree6 Disagree2

Mmm, if it's true, wonder why we are majoring so much on midfielders when we have Cork and Schneiderlin (sp?), although Stoch plays further forward apparently, so might replace Punch, or compete with Ramirez?

Not sure what other Saints fans think, but I though Lallana struggled lst year, particularly in the 2nd half of the season, so that link may need strengthening.

Mind you if Fox goes, Stoch would certainly help us maintain ground in the heavily tattooed footballer stakes.

Isn't it great we are even discussing all these potential signings. Seems like only yesterday we thought Saints had gone crazy by signing Lambert for £1m.

My prediction for next year in the Prem - 9th. Where Swansea finished last year. Would be quite happy with that.

Mumbler

Agree13 Disagree4

Good players but strange in that we don't need another DM. Unless the theory is that Wanyama can cover CB in an emergency and Cork could do likewise at RB?
Stoch looks good but again we have some decent AM's already and I would prefer to bring in Banega personally. Time will tell.

Agree3 Disagree1

Why do posts continue to dwell on who we might sign only in terms of the best 11?

Yes, clubs in the first season in the Premiership do tend to play a best 11 for much of the season because they lack sufficient depth, but once established, and wanting to push on in the league and do better in the cups there is much more need for rotation. Don't see Utd. playing the same 11 week in week out. And, as I have posted before, MP wants a very exhausting style of play to be utilised so I suspect the current rumours (if founded) don't signal current players not being part of the team, but simply a stronger SQUAD being considered. (Perhaps all those draws at the end of last season could have been wins with fresher legs and minds to bring in?)

Saint Martin

Agree16 Disagree0

Yes we do have Morgan and Cork but we were very lucky with injuries and suspensions last year. We need more strength in depth to allow rotation, strong substitutions and different selection options. This is about building and improving the squad not just the first 11

Agree12 Disagree0

I think the poster above is missing the point re: squad depth. We play with two holding midfielders. Morgan and Cork with JWP as back up and Davies too (although he has been used in a more advanced role so far). If we bring in Wanyama we will have to justify the price tag by mainly starting him and therefore breaking up a great partnership and possibly risk upsetting Cork as he won't get enough starts and JWP will have his development put on ice. Barring a host of injuries Davies will be pretty much redundant?
In other positions, the likes of Calum Chambers and Jack Stephens will be pushed further into the squad this year as Shaw and JWP were last season.
There is no point at all in having a world renowned academy if we don't use the players we develop? Otherwise we are just a giant feeder club!
