Koeman knows this player well - would be another very astute signing at a low price in today's market. Like I have said before Pelle needs competition to up his scoring rate - with this player and Rodrigues coming back and Long as well we will have a strong attack. (Not forgetting young Gallagher as well ! ) COYR's

maybe man city won't let us have him till after this season is over?

We need better than Guidetti and this business about Pelle upping his scoring rate, well what else can he do apart from hold the ball up and distribute it brilliantly ( alone). If just in our wildest dreams we were to make it to the CL we would want a bit of class and that costs money which we have got. No half measures, all or nothing.

Calm down Chris and I still maintain that Pelle needs competition which the big clubs have in place. As for distribution look no further than our departed Rickie Lambert who done this and scored more regularly. As for the comment all or nothing - this attitude could end up with Saints falling badly into debt. Trust in Koeman and the academy as well. COYR

Guidetti is only 22 has a good goal record wherever he has played and got game time koeman knows him well. If you want to see class check his rainbow flick out.

So if Guidetti is such hot property why I can't see anybody else queuing up to get him, wonder why ? As for the quote about getting us in to serious debt by going for it, we signed players at great expense like Gaston and Osvaldo whilst Cortese was in charge, he thought wrongfully at that stage that we could do it. We are going for the CL place like it or not as we have no choice so we must get top quality players in with Koeman giving his rubber stamp on them, he has done ok so far hasn't he ?. Stadium selling out early for every game so take the risk and make this club the alternative to the regular top four formula, it is possible you know, the longer the season goes on if we stay where we are the more people are going to believe it, especially players that may be would have never considered joining us just a few months ago.

so if koeman signs guidetti you think he has made a mistake?

if we had any other manager, I'd say no to signing Guidetti, but Koeman seems to work magic with every player he coaches and not one of his signings have been bad so far.

@chrisdownj
Surely an alternative to the regular top 4 formula would be to not splash cash at the situation to sign big name players and rather sign players like Guidetti, who may not be the best technically but have the desire and hunger to put in 120% every time they're a saints shirt, whilst developing our own and make them into the next gen of big names?

All your replies to my post I don't disagree with and if Koeman signs Guidetti so be it, I just don't think he will because he had a chance before and didn't. I personally believe the media will link us with any player that has played under Ronald before and assume for some reason that he needs to sign them. I think there is a good chance we won't sign anybody this window. I would still like him to sign somebody like Charlie Austin but we must trust what he's doing as it seems to be working so far.

Now Charlie Austin would be a hell of a player but unfortunately can't see it happening. if anything is going to happen in the transfer window it's likely to happen at the last moment. Would love to see worlds top talent here but that would see sky high wages that would be a hell of a gamble. As stated before I am a realist in life and we will never have the financial clout of the big boys. But one thing is for sure with our squad, academy and Koeman we can certainly upset the top 6 clubs and get in amongst them. Whatever happens what a season we are having!COYR's

Never quite sure how the finances work out at the very top of the football scale, there is so much money in TV rights, sponsorship and marketing I have a feeling we could actually become one of the big boys and make more money than we invest. Problem is you can't do it overnight so there is this transition period where it is likely to cost you big time. We do have an extremely wealthy owner but she is a business person and not a Russian or an Arab just using the EPL as an expensive hobby and to them many millions is just petty cash. If we do make it in to the top four this season we will have to do something to improve the squad and the charisma of our wonderful football club or just take it as a one off like winning a cup and then reverting back to the status quo. I am not sure we are geared up to do it but if you live your life dreaming of an opportunity like this it would be crazy to reject it purely on financial grounds. We are lucky to be experiencing what is happening at the moment and don't forget less than 5 years ago we were playing teams like Hartlepool ( Sorry Jeff )

I am sure that if we qualify for the CL or Europe then Koeman will be given enough dosh to get in players that will give us the squad to compete. The board (especially Katarina) would love this to happen. What won't happen is silly money being thrown about. We nearly went out of existence under Rupert and I would rather see us competing in the Premier and cup matches then have that experience again.

We nearly went out of business when Lowe was here because we didn't have any money and what we did have was shafted away in his bank account or wasted on a couple of cheap dodgy players. To top it all he employed Harry the Hood and the rest is history. I don't think people realise that our owner is a very, very rich woman running a company that is worth 3 billion pounds, I know it isn't toy money to throw around but we would be able to hold our own quite easily with the big boys in the PL purely on finance if she decided to. Our problem will be and always has been a question of marketability ( if there is such a word ). To make the name Southampton register within the global football market is going to take time and maybe will never be successful. Summing up, the old expression comes to mind " It's not what you are but who you are that matters "

Spot on Chris about marketability at the moment. The Saints Academy is the envy of Europe and very well known for producing exciting young players. This is marketability in its infancy - we need to let it grow slow but sure. The business empire that Katarina is fronting is was built and still building on being frugal with money. Therefore funds will be available but not silly money and the wages that go with it. Desperately need a striker now Long will be out for about 4-5 weeks. Shame about the result yesterday but now to concentrate on the league COYR's

Dani Osvaldo has been absent from training for consecutive days and appears to have vanished without informing anyone at Inter.

The player's departure from the Nerazzurri seems virtually certain now, with the Italian oriundo repeatedly left out of the squad and from training with his teammates, following rows with Mauro Icardi and Roberto Mancini.

New developments suggest that the crisis may be getting even deeper, as the Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the player has been absent from training for two days now and his whereabouts are unknown.

A posting on Twitter yesterday retweeted by the player indicated that he had been in Madrid visiting former Espanyol teammate and current Rayo Vallecano man Cristian Alvarez.

However, the Gazzetta say that this visit dates back to the weekend, so Monday and Tuesday’s absence remains unexplained.

In the meantime, Sky Sport Italia reveal interest in the player from Premier League side Queen Park Rangers.
