Rojo, young Argentinian left back being linked with saints. Been reported on one site but starting to gather momentum now. Sprightly little young player, could be a gamble but got to be worth a punt? He's 24 and also been linked with Chelsea and Liverpool so I would expect is to sign him then accept an offer for him next summer from Liverpool.

Believable10 Unbelievable4

I can imagine players that have previously been linked with bigger clubs may hold out longer to see if any other clubs come in for him.
On the other hand, seeing the success of lovren in his 1st season may persuade him to come.

Agree7 Disagree2

Thought he looked really good a the WC. Go get him RK!

Saints offered below the said £7.5m for Forster and have now upset Celtic by putting in a silly offer which could of ruined any further business that could of gone on

Believable9 Unbelievable11

I wouldn't read much into that - tell me a club that offer top money straight away.

Agree8 Disagree1

7. 5 is ridiculous money in scotland, rubbish

Agree4 Disagree1

Don't badmouth Scotland, they'll declare independence.

Lol Phil!

Am trying not to read too much into this and whilst I agree that you don't always go in with the asking price, it does make me wonder how low we went. I would far rather we went in at the lower end of sensible to try and get it finalised. We do need these players

Agree2 Disagree0

Didn't the same thing happen with Victor last summer?

The thing is, everyone knows that we have just brought in a few quid from the sales of Rickie, Judas, and Judas, so if we go in higher, Celtic just say no, give us more cash.

We have to be prudent with our cash, but at the same time RoKo, just get the flippin' players in would ya!

Agree5 Disagree0

Apparently we offered around 4m! what a joke. stop messing about get players in and maybe we can keep lovren and spider or unless we have already conceeded to losing both.

Agree5 Disagree2

Why is 4 million a joke?? he's been playing in a micky mouse league for about three seasons and before that he couldn't get into a prem team

Agree6 Disagree4

Evra (who won absolutely everything) went to juve for 1. 25

Agree5 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - Evra is in his 30s and only had a one year contract. Plus they had already replaced him for £30m+, so he was only going to be sat on the bench most of the season. You can't compare the two.}

Because they are never going to accept 4m. waste of time and risk insulting our feeder club. van dijk scored 2 last night. just saying.

Agree4 Disagree0

Saintgibbs: spot on mate! Spot on! If we actually manged to get some quality, real quality signings over the line like a benteke as an example!!!! There is a chance! However slight that maybe that spider and even Lovren thought actually I want to stay!!

Come on Ronald and southampton please please please surprise us! Let's show se ambition in the transfer market!

I have to admit, out of the names being banded about the Argentina left back looks the nuts! Would love it if we signed him and more like this one please southampton. COYR!!

Agree6 Disagree2

The snowball effect. lambert should not have left first and so early, it made it a lot easier for lallana to follow. the appointment of RK was left too long. a marquee signing is being left too and is desperately needed to settle nerves on ambition for players and the fans. (now i'm seeing articles saying we should remember who we are and that we should fall in line and comply with the top 6) this was not the markus liebherr vision. the board have made an absolute hash of everything since cortese left. they are clueless! Kreuger lost my faith instantly. comes in talking about transparency and openess then goes off the radar for 2 months when this was all going on. why people are still sticking up for them I don't know. even still they are pulling the wool over our eyes with the "war chest", whilst the sky money slips off unmentioned. we need someone that knows the industry. we missed the trick with john williams. instead we appoint an ice hockey player whos first action was to make a statement about openness and honesty (which was just a dig at cortese) and all they have done since is the exact opposite. les reed standing there saying "were not selling" and then we go sell. its the foundations that have been laid by the people before them that is saving us. I know I moan a lot but its the passion! I just feel we have been giving no reason to trust this board but every reason not to. I just hope all this mincing about doesn't cost us dearly and we miss out on our targets. we are really not in a position for that.

Agree6 Disagree5

I sort of see your point but the signing process was just as long winded when Cortese was here. Adkins and MoPo took ages to sign Wanyama, Ramirez and the cowboy Osvaldo. Frustrating I know but seems more complicated for us than others don't know why but can only guess we are trying bargain basement tactics which often turns round and shoots you in the foot.

Agree2 Disagree0

As to the sky money 'slipping off', there are out her expenses to consider. Also if this rumoured stadium expansion (reported will cost £50mil) is going to happen the we will need as little bit of money in the bank!

I don't think everyone should be so quick to jump on the new management, let's just give it time and see where we are after the season settles in

Agree5 Disagree2

There's no point in making your first offer high, 'cause they could always turn round and say to up that. make it low, make it known you're not desperate (even if you are) and meet in the middle eventually.

Agree3 Disagree0

Do we need an exspansion?

Agree3 Disagree1

Expansion would be good, due to the ffp the club can only spend what it makes in revenue on players, more tickets sold = higher revenue and more money for wages and stuff

Agree3 Disagree0

@SaintGibbs For goodness sake! So many different posters have been over this, the sales were necessary and good business! Lambert, Shaw & Lallana would have unsettled the squad if their moves hadn't been granted so the board did the best and only thing possible, to sell them above their worth.

While you and some others go around calling them Judas and acting as if you know everything, the Southampton board - who are more than capable of doing their job - actually work & do good for the club.

The board have done nothing wrong, Koeman will be a success and Southampton will probably perform well this season. Reed said during the announcement of the Bayer Leverkusen game that that match would be an unveiling of the squad and there are still weeks before August 9 so just slow down, relax and wait for it all to work out.

Agree5 Disagree0

You are right, I just think we are all so disappointed that we don't look as if we are building on last year After all those difficult years I can feel the frustration in nearly all of these posts A real class buy would settle the nerves, this penny pinching is all very well but sometimes you have to pay the price being asked!Feels like, we couldn, t run a car boot is that unfair? if we really wanted Forster yesterday, then the negotiations were handled very badly. get a proper buyer in in knows what he is doing!

"Mummy, I must have a new computer 'cause all my mates have got a new one. Don't care what it is just buy it Mum."

"Mummy, this computer is rubbish and I now find my mates all have better ones because their Mummies took their time and picked the best and most economical."

"Oh well Mummy, just go and buy another one."

To mix up a quotation, "spend in haste, end up in L2."

Patience!

Agree1 Disagree1

Thats what you got from that lucky finn - i'm upset that shaw lambert and lallana have left?? *bangs head off wall*

Agree0 Disagree2

Its about the instability the board have caused from their inexperience and extremely poor handling of everything. ralph kreuger and kathrina liebherr know what they're doing agree or disagree

Agree2 Disagree1

Leave transfers till the last minute you end up paying over the top and missing out and then paying over the top again in January. exactly why united were so poor last season they were not effective and decisive in the transfer window.

Agree0 Disagree1

It really doesn't work like that. You can't just be quick in the transfer window. Most high quality players and agents want to hold out to see what happens offer wise before committing to a decision with the exception of those involved with big club offers, however often these big clubs have a selection of targets and they themselves may want to wait to see the result of another clubs transfer or see who might come available. Beginning of August is when things start to move, the idea certain clubs are slow or fast is a myth.

I'm reading a lot that we're making a bid for Caulker and have bid for Fraser Forster both would be quality and now hearing that we want Marcus Rojo!! What a signing he would be, would be a great signing at CB and could cover LB while Taggart develops into the role, that's the level of ambition we want! Is it clear the ambitions gone now Lovren?

Believable4 Unbelievable5

Caulker will be joining qpr.

Agree12 Disagree1

Celtic have rejected a "misory" bid from us that is well below the 7.5m kicking about.

Agree6 Disagree2

Rojo is primarily a LB I thought? nevertheless would be a brilliant signing!

Agree7 Disagree2

I think we need two cbs, needed one before lovren became a 1st class person a left back and central midfield if gaston doesn't step up, maybe even another striker

Agree4 Disagree1

Caulker going to QPR thankfully, mistake prone, de vrij and rojo much better options at the back

Agree6 Disagree0

There is no maybe about another striker I think we need another 2! jay rod won't be back for a while, osvaldo is going.

Agree5 Disagree0

As soon as koeman was appointed I was saying lovren and de vrij would be an amazing partenership (this was before the whole lovren saga) could a double signing of rojo ad de vrij sway him to stay? I highly doubt we will end up with either and now caulker is not an option who else will we be looking at?

Agree1 Disagree3

Rojo is a versatile left "wing back" who can also play CB.

Agree1 Disagree1

Caulker was on £60k a week at Cardiff. I imagine QPR are paying him even more.

Agree1 Disagree0

On another website it says he's a CB and can play LB, either way would be a top signing

Some reports saying we have bid £7.5 million for Forster, It also mentions there is a 25% sell on fee to Newcastle.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

Apparently Celtic have rejected the bid for Forster, the bid was far wide of the reported 7.5 million

According to news now we are in for Argentina ace rojo

Believable7 Unbelievable3

Would love this to be true. Also Ron Vlaar is being tracked by RoKo.

Agree5 Disagree2

Too much money for vlarr and rojo would be amazing signings but as lovren has said no ambition only interested in mediocrity don't like what lovren has done out of order but there is some truth there more players to leave than come

Agree6 Disagree3

22 Jul 2014 11:58:05
Although Goal aren't really a reliable source, they believe that we are in the front seat to sign Sporting Lisbon and Argentinian LB and/or CB Marcos Rojo. Koeman believes that he will give us much needed cover for both CB and LB. In my opinion this would be a fantastic signing. What do you guys think.

We Are Close To Signing Celtics GoalKeeper Forster I Liked Marshall Better But Forster Will Do For Us He Is Alright But Marshall Seems To Play Better And Try Harder For He's Club

Believable4 Unbelievable5

Tries harder? I don't think I've ever seen a lazy goalkeeper, who can't really be bothered making saves.

Could be the Le Tissier of keepers.

Agree7 Disagree2

Can't remember ever seeing Marshall keep Barcelona at bay. Forster has grown as a player since moving from Newcastle where he never really played.

Agree2 Disagree3

That certainly can't be said of Marshall or Forster

Agree1 Disagree0

Wills - do you mean the lazy bit?
Both are good keepers just personally I would take forster.

Agree3 Disagree1

Yes the lazy bit, sorry, I'll elaborate next time

Southampton look like they have missed out on marshall anyway as he has been seen near Brighton football club buy fans of theres.

Southampton want Stefan de Vrij to replace Dejan Lovren but face a fight with Manchester United.

Southampton will battle Deportivo La Coruna for River Plate's £7m-rated striker Teofilo Gutierrez.

Been told some news by the same people who've told me about Koeman, Osvaldo, Wanyama and loads others

We've made 'firm' offers for Forster, de Vrij, Kolo, Clasie and Guidetti

Clasie is the least likely as the club are pretty stocked in MF but Koeman likes him and wants to bring him here, whilst Forster is pretty much 100% to happen

Don't take is as gospel cause they could always be wrong, but they've been pretty reliable so far

Believable6 Unbelievable5

Would all make sense, love it if we get de Vrij! Is Kolo that LB with the long name?

Agree5 Disagree1

Cheers, it's nice to hear follow ups on players we are looking at bringing in. Just hope there is some truth behind it!

Agree4 Disagree1

Hope true

Fingers crossed. Some excellent names in therr

Agree2 Disagree1

Clasie is very classy and I would love to have him at Southampton. Please organise accordingly Ron.

Agree3 Disagree0

Met a feyenoord fan when we sighned koeman and he said the one player he will definatly take is clasie

Saints to sign Forster over Marshall as. Celtic willing to accept less then what Cardiff want for Marshall and caulker to join us over qpr due to our philosophy of showcasing English talent

Believable2 Unbelievable12

Caulker having a medical at QPR sky sports news!

Agree5 Disagree2

A journo at the game said last night that Saints were never in for Caulker.

Agree4 Disagree4

So much disinformation. I trust the manager to get this right! only slight concern is that we are trying to get players on the cheap, when every one knows we have the money!players will come in shortly and we will have a good mix of youth and experience. really looking forward to a great season. onwards and upwards.

Agree3 Disagree1

Really I want Marshall with us

22 Jul 2014 14:39:22
yet another very low offer put in, this time Forster. The guy is worth ten so pay it, or he will go some where else!Every top side builds from the back, with the best they can afford, so come on saints, go and get him!!

Agree0 Disagree1

Just because we have the money why do we have to pay over the odds? Good financial management!

How is this trying to get players on the cheap?

Agree1 Disagree0

22 Jul 2014 15:33:39
I really am very uncomfortable with the way we are doing our negotiating. Its all very well being careful with money, but sometimes you have to pay the price and not take the mickey.

Agree2 Disagree4

8m would get him. we offered 4m, what a liberty.
