Saints manager is in communication with mourinho about signing Torres on a six month loan deal if they can sign Rooney from utd with an option to buy for 15 million in jan!
Seems odd but spoatentl Torres wants to stay in England and ponch and mourinho are good friends, I csn see him letting him go if he is surplus and giving saints, in theory, first option if we did loan him.

Believable3 Unbelievable29

You've completely made that up and added 2+2 and come up with 610.

Agree24 Disagree2

No thanks

Agree15 Disagree2

Shame this is not true

Agree3 Disagree12

We all know that poch and mourihnio are great freinds but this your alright they can keep him why not ba makes more sense if chelsea get another striker and is 50x better than torres

Agree4 Disagree3

So how much of his 200k a week are we going to pay?

Agree8 Disagree1

If they get Rooney. Brilliant. Haven't laughed this much for ages.

In other believable news, Saints buy the moon

Agree12 Disagree1

At the very least when you make up a rumour make sure it is 1% believable.

Agree5 Disagree0

Dont be silly, Man City already have a bid for the moon.

Agree12 Disagree0

Would love this to be true but i'm 100 percent certain we won't get him

st stuie

Agree1 Disagree1

Ha, he isn't worth the wages, sure it was reported he was on 120k + a week. Can't see NC allowing that

Agree1 Disagree0

School holidays have started I see!

Agree8 Disagree1

Ba would make SOME sense. JM has said that he is not in his plans. Wages would be an issue, but the fee might be reasonable in the scheme of things

Agree0 Disagree1

MoPo is friends with JoMo and also was team mates with the new Barca gaffer so any good cast offs welcome.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol Saints buy the moon. Excellent.

Southampton still want to sign a right back, centre back, winger and striker, any ideas who?

Believable2 Unbelievable3

{Ed029's Note - You may find out who the right-back is tomorrow.

Why mite we find out tmoz?

Agree3 Disagree3

{Ed029's Note - It came from Simon Peach.. Have to see if it amounts to anything tomorrow.

May we? Speculation or based on reasonable intelligence?

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed029's Note - Not sure I'd give him that much credit tbf ;)

Interesting, one in england or abroad?

Agree1 Disagree1

Why do we need a right back?

Agree2 Disagree5

Ed, nooooooooooo!!!

Agree3 Disagree0

Probably because we have no exp. cover in RB? Cork and Maya can drop in that slot but not nearly good enough cover as a fledged RB imo

Agree5 Disagree0

Toby Alderweireld? Nice.

Agree3 Disagree1

Cork and Maya are capable deputies to a very good player in Clyne. On top of that we've taken Chambers on preseason who has retrained as a right back and told saints website that is his new position and long term he wants to be competition for Clyne.

In summary why the heck would we buy a RB with all that available!

I also say Simon Peaches tweet. Unless its someone of the Micah Richards quality then I'm not interested.

Jannersaint

Agree3 Disagree1

Micah Richards anyone

Agree3 Disagree3

If this is true, it has been the best kept secret signing of the year!

Agree7 Disagree1

Dont think its a signing. Looks like it is just another "saints are interested in" hitting the papers. In fact, wouldn't be surprised if the jesus gamez from malaga one crop up again.

Agree4 Disagree1

How can it be a best kept secret, when the secret is out

Agree2 Disagree2

Maya did well last year when needed and chambers is ment to be coming on and even wants to 'challenge for the slot' at RB could it be striker, winger even a cb ed's?

Agree1 Disagree1

Why edo29? What do you know?

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed029's Note - You're after Kyle Naughton.

Saints to make a move for edin dzeko?
Thoughts.
Osvaldo, damiao not happening, would be a good signing.
Saintsmiff

Believable3 Unbelievable10

I'd love to see Dzeko in a saints shirt, proven at this level, IMO would be a quality signing!

Agree4 Disagree2

We wouldn't pay him a quarter of what he gets at city. nice sentiment, but dzeko is out of our range. for now.

Agree9 Disagree2

True, forgot about the wage demands. Would be a great signing for saints. But what money would osvaldo and damiao demand? Hi haven't a clue on our wage structure. I think ramires is on around 50,000 a week?
Saintsmiff

Agree2 Disagree0

We have a sound financial structure and pretty sure we will work to a wage cap, we won't break it for any of the above. otherwise we are pretty much pressing a self distuct button How would you know what Ramirez is on?

Agree2 Disagree1

I know a wage structure is a good thing but surely if we want to get/attract a better quality of player than that will ultimately have to go up?

Agree3 Disagree1

I don't know what ramires is on, but top players would have to be on around that mark. I mean what do you think dzeko is on? Can't see him being above £100,000. Damiao would surely want 70 odd? Please somebody correct me it can't be that much of a secret. What I'm saying is if we were to sign somebody of damiao or osvaldo calibre, they would have to be our top earners by quite a mark

Agree2 Disagree2

Just had a google, most reports suggest dzeko is on 100-130,000 a week!

Agree1 Disagree1

If we can get dzeko for cheap then wages aren't such an issue. If he's around the £12m mark, a 3 or 4 year deal will be worth a few extra million, which still makes him cheaper than Osvaldo.

Although I hope we don't break out current wage structure.

Agree1 Disagree0

Paying one player that would ruin the harmony and open the doors for mercenarys like Rooney to demand what they think they are worth. NC is a good business man as we all know and won't allow it. Hence any player on extortionate wages will either have to accept a massive pay cut or we won't bring them in.

Agree1 Disagree0

What are the new rules on wages against % income, our income isn't that high therefore we won't pay high wages.

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunately all of the "We will be in the top 6 brigade" will have to accept that the only way this would happen is if we bring in major top class players. They of course would only come if we meet their wage demands. No win situation really, so we either accept mid table obscurity or push the financial boat out to achieve Markus's dream. I have a feeling we will probably keep the boat pretty close to shore. The major problem we have is enticing these top players to unfashionable Southampton. We love our club but I think many top players wouldn't even know in which part of Britain it's in. Don't want to be a gloom and doom merchant but unless we can improve our profile with big stadium and loads of media attention I think the big days are still a long way off.

Agree2 Disagree0

Osvaldo is worth 8m euros which is about 6. 5 m so how would dzeko be cheaper?

News just filtering through the grapevine to expect something on friday. not sure where this is pointing so will hassle for more info but could explain the recent quiet patch & just where has NC & his chequebook travelled?

Believable6 Unbelievable8

I'm off on hols on Friday. How did you know?!

Agree3 Disagree4

Thats not news at all?

Agree7 Disagree3

Let's be honest. both you and I know there's no truth in this.

Deals are complicated, would be impossible to say when a deal will be completed days in advance!

Agree12 Disagree3

Cortese said 2 days in advance when Saints U21 played the friendly at Sholing that the Wanyama deal was basically complete and we would hear in a couple of days, 2 days later and the deal is complete

Agree4 Disagree7

Yeh Yeh say this every Friday of the transfer window and one time you will be "proved right" you'll be able to hold your head up high and say I told you so, and we will bow and cheer you.

Agree7 Disagree1

The sun reports Gaston wants to go back to serie A with Inter interested. Do these reporters ever stop making crap up. Gaston has said himself he wants to stay and it's his Agent who has spoken to the media to try and force a move so he can get a fat cheque. Why not report saints are after Messi as now Neymar is at the club Messi feels he will not be number one anymore.

Agree7 Disagree6

I think the comments from Gastons agent are reasonable. He has said Gaston is happy and want to prove himself to Southampton and the Premierleague.

He ha also gone on to say that if inter want Gaston it will take a big bid.

All sounds fair to me. Different papers putting different spin on the comments.

Jannersaint

Agree7 Disagree2

When you compare Gaston to Courtinho then so far Gaston has been not much more than hype so far in the BPL, and if he performs performs like last year then he will find it difficult to get a start never mind 90min.

Sorry but I don't think he has made any significant improvement to the team as yet that £12m sale wouldn't cover.

When he gets subbed and Punch comes on I'm not left thinking - oh we'll never do it now!

I would be sad to see him go but Saints wouldn't suffer too much.

Would be fantastic if he rips up the BPL and plays a blinder this year and I hope he does - but I'm not expecting it.

Agree1 Disagree3

Actually, although deals are complicated it is fairly easy to predict when contracts are signed. What isn't so easy is when those signings are actually made public. Lovren for example was completed a full 10 days before the official announcement. So far we have reasonable knowledge that we have at least 3 rods in the fire so to speak. As to whether or not they come to fruition & as to what people believe they read in the media are another. Those with access to the right info know that at least one of these deals is in the advanced stages although having also heard that we may be hearing something positive this week, I'm not certain that it is going to be one of these higher profile players just yet. It appears we are also chasing a number of backup options & I reckon it will be one of these that is unveiled sooner rather than later. We are still expecting a couple more outgoing players & 1-3 incoming.

Agree1 Disagree0

What I often fail to remember is that Gaston is so young. I mean, he's a similar age to Ben Reeves, and younger than the likes of Schneidelin, cork etc.

Then, he's had serious family problems, moved to a strange new country, and playing in a league where the tempo of the game is totally different.
We also expect him to "work like a dog" as Osvaldo put it, which let's face it, isn't really his type of game.
Put all that together, and it's enough to give the kid problems.

Yes, he cost a lot of money, but a large part of that was paying for future potential. For example, Alex the Ox wouldn't have been worth £15m if he had been 26 or 28.

So we've got an hugely talented kid, that needs time and patience.

One thing is for sure. Gaston will make like fine wine, and get better and better with age.

Agree10 Disagree0

Well that's the sun for you!

Agree1 Disagree0

St Christopher, bravo. Some sensible posting. So easy to heap expectation on these players, but like you said they're young and it's a tough competitive world out there, in a new country for them.

They need support and patience, not criticism. Ramirez works his backside off and gets on well with the squad. By all accounts he's a nice, hard-working lad. That's all we can ask from him, the rest is just supporting him and hoping it works out.

There has always been a nice feeling about Saints. We're a family, not a club. Not like your Chelsea's etc. We don't act spoilt and the players don't owe us the world, just a positive attitude.

Agree3 Disagree0

Great post chris, I fully expect Gaston to become a good player, hopefully with us. Time will tell!
