Not a rumour but opinion. Although we have lost good players and possibly lose more in Lovren, Morgan and Jay as rumoured in various sources, I believe we can still improve on last season. We have received high fees from those lost (bar Lambert) which IF re-invested can help create not only a strong 1st XI as with last season but create a very strong squad. unlike last season. Out of the rumours around the world our squad could look like this (im hoping!)

GK Boruc
Forster

DL Targett
Rojo

DC De Vrij
Fonte
Yoshida
Vlaar/Lovren

DR Chambers
Clyne

MC Ward-Prowse
Davis
Wanyama
Morgan/Clasie
Banega

LW Gaston
Jay-Rod

RW Reeves
Tadic

ST Pelle
Gallagher

I think that's a pretty strong squad. Although even with above I would like to see a further CM, Winger and Forward.

Believable5 Unbelievable13

Reeves isn't with us anymore. maybe u mean isgrove/harry reed

Agree11 Disagree1

Also it's not about what's better on paper it's how the team performs together, for example when QPR got relegated they had one of the best squads in the league

Agree5 Disagree7

Yeah I agree I'm happy if we bought only a couple more players this window. But I think banega isn't a realistic target anymore tbh. The rest I think are achievable

Agree2 Disagree3

Can't see any space for Cork - are you assuming he's leaving or was he forgot?

Agree3 Disagree2

The reason QPR got relegated was because they were being led by the same muppet who took us down. Why an earth anyone would think Rednapp was good enough for England Manager is beyond me

Agree9 Disagree1

McQueen, Reed and Cork have to be in there as well.

Will take our board 3 years to sign that lot at the rate they work

Villa have stated that vlaar is not going anywhere this year

Agree7 Disagree2

Paul Lambert says that Ron Vlaar is not for sale no matter what! In my experience that means that he is definitely leaving. Hopefully to us, we need his experience and 100% commitment. He would be a great signing.

Agree12 Disagree3

I wish

Agree5 Disagree0

Vlaar will go on for ages, lambert has said he is not for sale but with 1 year left on his contract its down to where vlaar wants to be imo.

Agree8 Disagree0

Out of them, we need Redmond, Forster, one of Vlaar or Kongolo, Rojo and another striker, I'd rather someone like De Vrij to Vlaar and Kongolo though personally

Agree7 Disagree2

23 Jul 2014 20:30:01
Vlaar has only a year left on his contract so Lambert can say what he likes but he won't be able to stop him moving on if he shall wish. I doubt Saints will sign all of them, but they are in talks with their first targets.

Agree3 Disagree3

I think we'd all be happy campers with that lot on board. petsonally i'd prefer De Vrij over Vlaar and another striker as we lack depth there at the moment. but hey I'm greedy. Fingers crossed. nice to see positive posts.

Agree4 Disagree2

I like the looks of that list. Two of the defenders should be the top priority, I'd think. If we don't get them soon, we might be looking at starting the season with Hooiveld again (!).

Agree6 Disagree2

{Ed005's Note - Ed2 has said on another that Rojo to SFC looks like it can be done save for a last minute offer from another side, so it looks good.}

Southampton will make improved bids for Forster & Redmond and look to give Fonte the Captain's armband. Schneiderlin is also set to return to the club.

Hope so with the signings. I read the same on newsnow.
Why not make spider captain?

Agree9 Disagree3

Would rather spider had the band.

Agree12 Disagree1

Not sure Fonte should even be in the first XI if the club is serious about making progress.

Assuming Lovren leaves, I think Saints need two new CBs.

Agree12 Disagree4

Fonte is a great servant and very loyal but he made a few costly errors last season. Not sure he's good enough for the prem let alone captain the side

Agree11 Disagree9

Seriously?
Fonte is commanding at the back, and a calming influence for the youth.
IMO would be an ideal captain. Yeah we need more cbs but to shut fonte out of the team would be a mistake, we are loosing enough experienced heads without dropping them on our own!

if saints are after redmond from norwich
better pull their finger out as stoke are after him also
as they had a bid rejected but going in with a higher bid
forestsaint

Agree4 Disagree0

Fonte not good enough for the prem?? Is that a joke? Obviously didn't watch much of our last campaign then

Agree8 Disagree4

Fonte is quality! He was solid at the back last season and I would love to see him with the armband! Amazing servant to the club and no1 would be better than Fonte for it! Coys!

Agree4 Disagree2

Fonte made some pretty big mistakes last season, he's good enough for the prem but he's no where near the same level as de Vrij etc

Agree5 Disagree3

23 Jul 2014 20:31:55
Deals are being done all the time, because we don't hear about them doesn't mean Saints aren't doing any business.

Agree4 Disagree2

Fonte was good last season but I felt the intention was to bring in a new CB and fonte would be back.

Agree1 Disagree0

Fonte definitely not good enough to be in the side let alone captain it. Flog him to Cardiff if they still want him. Fonte has been a great servant to the club??
So what -so was Guly but he wasn't good enough either.
2 new centre backs needed if Lovren does eventually go!!

Agree5 Disagree8

Fonte absolute diamond, so loyal and superb professional. Get De Vrij and Vlaar alongside Fonte. Vlaar can play anywhere at the back even full back. We need a strong back line as we gave away so many needless goals last season.

Agree10 Disagree1

Fonte would is more than adequate as a squad member.

Agree5 Disagree2

How can everyone be upset with Fonte? Lovren didn't do it all on his own last season. Yeah he made a few mistakes but so did Lovren. Spurs away comes to mind. He will make a great captain.

Being linked to lazio midfielder Onazi

Believable5 Unbelievable7

Didn't spurs want him?

Agree1 Disagree4

So where are all the people telling me we don't need to heavily reinvest or sign some top quality comments on this guy?

Agree0 Disagree1

Reports in Holland are saying saints are after feyenhoid captain jordie clasie,

Believable11 Unbelievable2

He wouldn't be a bad Addition to the Squad.

Agree3 Disagree2

He will go to Man U

Agree2 Disagree7

Regarding Clasie I think the last thing we need at the moment is another midfielder.

Agree5 Disagree4

Very good player but not what's needed.

Agree1 Disagree2

Morgan out - jordy in - classic panini swap

Agree3 Disagree3

Agree with you fu2, can only see clasie coming in if either Morgan or corky leave

Agree5 Disagree0

Even if Shneiderlin goes we have enough CM's especially with Reed coming through

Agree3 Disagree4

Morgan was the vital cog in our style of play last season. his tackles made and interceptions were amongst, if the not THE best in the PL. would be a bigger loss than AL LS or RL. suppose it depends on how RoKo wants to set up.

Agree4 Disagree3

See I disagree SaintGibbs, I think Cork was just as vital if not more and didn't think he had as much influence as he did the previous year, not that he had a bad season at all, just thought he was more crucial for us the previous season, although we must try to keep him as we are losing to many first team starters and the spine of our team

Agree0 Disagree0

Having watched the Bournemouth game, and I know it was very much a friendly, I was impressed by Cork and Reed and Pelle. Some reasonable performances out there, but the lack of speed and cutting edge will be worrying. We have some very good players at our club, confidence is clearly not what it should be with only a few weeks to go. speed down the wings will be critical. have very high hopes of Gallagher. Perhaps we might add to our squad this coming week!!
