Southampton FC are looking at a number of transfer targets. They will try and sign 5-6 players this summer, these being, Jesus Gamez from Malaga, Davide Astori from Cagliari, Victor Wanyama from Celtic, Erik Lamela from Roma, Adrian from Athletico or Lukaku from Chelsea.

Believable10 Unbelievable10

Wow, with those players we might actually have a shot at the Champions League. However, all of them would cost well over Cortese's reported £30 million transfer kitty, plus only Astori and possibly Gamez are realistic, other will want something that Saints can't currently give them.

Agree5 Disagree1

Cortesse may only have a 30 mill kitty but if champions league is wanted then well need to spend big i'm shore if we sign these players which I think are realisitic hell be willing to pay more than 30 mill whatever it takes in my view

Trev saint

Agree3 Disagree4

Would be amazing and would put us top six but realistically all this would cost around 50 to 60 mill.

Agree2 Disagree1

Who said there's only 30 mill to spend

st stuie

Agree9 Disagree2

Come on let's be realistic we are never going to but Lukaku. The only way we could get him would be on loan but I think chelsea would want him back after the season he has just had

Agree3 Disagree2

I really hope this is true!
We will be class if we sign all of these players.
^Agree, these would cost around 50-60 million
^^and agree again, who said there is only 30 million to spend.
If this does happen, a 32,000 seater stadium would not be enough.
I wonder if this was corteses plan all along.
Step 1: get to the prem
Step 2: Spend a bit and stay in the prem
Step 3: Once a season in the prem is done spend 60 mill.
What ever he does, it is back by the owner, which is really good.

Agree6 Disagree1

I don't want him spending 60m. I don't want to end up doing a QPR. Players that are with us just for the money. Saying that though. Cortese is a shrewd business man and knows what he's doing.

Agree8 Disagree0

After cortese saying he will quit for the board interjection, he decided to stay and the board decided to support him. could he have asked for a massive transfer fund?

Agree0 Disagree0

Why does everyone seem to think its common knowledge the amount of money that cortese has to spend? did he say it in a statement somewhere or is it all just bull?

Agree4 Disagree0

£30 million is a figure being floated about as part of the negotiation between NC and Katarina Leiberr. I've seen it on tv and various tabloid rags.

Not saying they've got it right but £30 mil seems reasonable to me, i. e. for a club of our stature to push on in a sustainable way.

Agree2 Disagree2

£30 million is purely sensible speculation. Not fact. Not wrong. Just seems the amount we would spend.

Agree1 Disagree1

The £30m was a guess by the press! They were wrong before when they did the same and they will be wrong this time.
Simples. No-one knows!

Saint Martin

Agree6 Disagree0

Tabloids just picked that figure out of the air I think for the right players we will need to add 20/30 million on top of that if w really want to progress next year, we have a lot of deadwood to chop off and replace.

Agree1 Disagree0

Ok well we all know Lukaku won't happen he'll be leading the Chelsea line next season, but Adrian could definetly happen and with those other players we'll have an incrdible squad! I'm particularly liking the Eric Lamela rumour he'd be class!

Agree0 Disagree0

Lukaku won't be leading the Chelsea line. They are going to spend millions on yet another striker. With the return of Mourinho and the good relationship between him and Pochettino we could well take Lukaku on a good deal.

Agree1 Disagree1

The thing is though if we spend 50 mill there will be a huge difference between the type of player we buy and the type of players QPR bought. We will buy young players with huge potential and pretty much guaranteed sell on value so in theory there is no risk as we can get more money than we paid for these players two or three years on

Agree1 Disagree0

Doubt ALL of these players will come but hopefully 2-3 will

Hi,

I first post a week ago about Southampton trying to sign Roma Erik Lamela.

Southampton still interested in our Lamela and have given a bid 20 million euros with future adds.

Not yet accepted. Your chairman here for further talks. Roma not want to sell.

Believable8 Unbelievable5

If Roma aren't willing to sell, what are they doing discussing the possible transfer?

Agree4 Disagree4

Cant see this happening as Man City were after him last month? 20m Euros won't be enough. can't see us spending most of out kitty on one player, although he would be worth the money.

Agree1 Disagree3

Might be possible, with Ramirez in part of the deal (if he is having trouble settling in UK)?

Agree1 Disagree4

No Ramirez will stay, how much can we spend without breaking the Fair Play rules?

Agree2 Disagree0

We can spend the amount of profit we make plus £105million over a three year period. Basically though it is far more likely we will eat into our profits and attempt to not go over them by much. Especially seeing as our wage bill is low we probably won't come close to breaking these rules.

Cortese looking at soldado, perfect player to spear the attack. Valencia will sell for 12 million as having money trouble. goal scorer who can push saints on. believes in cortese ambition

Believable2 Unbelievable10

Surely he is just too good to accept a move to us? He's an incredible player and if he wanted it could land a move to Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, so why would he come to us? Plus only 12 million? I can't see this being true.

Agree6 Disagree2

Would love it, and can see why he's being linked with us (He's being linked with everyone). But he said himself he'd only move for CL this year. So that's a no to us unfortunately.

Agree3 Disagree0

This would be absolutely amazing if saints signed him, we will see corteses ambition if we do. I think saints will make some really good signings but maybe this is a bit far, also that price tag is a tad on the small side, we will see.

Can I ask where did you hear this from?

Agree1 Disagree1

Valencia are strapped for cash but as much as I would love it to happen, it just won't.

Agree3 Disagree0

I've heard from a family member that NC has been seen in Milan, could suggest linking up with Bojan following potential talks with roma

Agree0 Disagree2

Thow i'd love sodado 1 12million is way below what he's worth an 2 top sides want him man city munich Manchester United we have no chance

Trev saint

Agree1 Disagree0

He has already played for Madrid and they deemed him not good enough.

Ed could you clarify the realistic chances of southampton signing lamela, as I believe its very unlikely and isn't he also owned by more theb one party hence why some of the bigger clubs interested cooled there interest?

thanks in advance

clarkey saint

ps I say this because i'm sure during jan or last summer he was interesting man u or arsenal? {Ed001's Note - I believe you are correct in that it is ownership issues that are the problem. Which is why he is more likely to head to another European club which don't have the same rules against multiple player ownership.}

News today Cortese supposedly spotted at Stadio Olimpico, the ground is shared between Lazio and Roma so he could be there to talk to either club.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

Lamela?

Agree9 Disagree1

Lamela hopfully

Trev saint

Agree8 Disagree2

So these lamela rumours could be true. Everyone is saying that there will be a big money move, we have already enquirer about him and as he plays for Roma this could be true. Hope it is because he is a quality player in real life. COYR!

Agree6 Disagree1

Hopefully it's Lamela.

But, assuming it's for negotiations and that it's not Lamela, I reckon it could be any of the following; Bojan, Pjanic, Nico Lopez, Cavanda, Onazi.

But it's probably/hopefully Lamela.

Agree9 Disagree0

Could also be marquinhos for defensive cover. He's the sort of player, lik that lot we might go for.

Agree2 Disagree1

Romagnoli, if this is the game we're playing. but yeah probably nad hopefully lamela.

Agree2 Disagree0

Florenzi, destro. if were just naming good young roma players.
LAMELA COYR.

Agree5 Disagree1

Hopefully this is true. Who supposedly spotted him?

Agree4 Disagree0

The only thing I can find about this guy is that he's linked to Manchester United and man city.

Agree0 Disagree1

Where did u hear that cortese is at Stadio Olimpico?

Agree3 Disagree0

Lamela scored 15 goals in Serie A this season. He won't come cheap.

Agree3 Disagree0

Hopefully Hernanes from Lazio

Agree5 Disagree1

Osvaldo was at Espanyol with Pochettino.

Agree3 Disagree0

My father is touring famous places across Europe including football stadiums. He is going to be in Rome for a few days and he very excitedly called me earlier to say he'd spotted Cortese being greeted by someone he didn't recognise in the Stadio Olimpico before basically being blocked by security from going to speak with either of them.

Agree4 Disagree5

Can't see it with Man U and city supposedly in for him maybe its agent games again remember that happening a lot last transfer windows

Agree1 Disagree1

What aboit diakite, he'd be a great signing

Agree1 Disagree2

"My father. "

Oh, so it's bull****. Damn. Well, at least we know he's in Italy anyway. Probably Astori then.

Agree6 Disagree2

Pablo Osvaldo and Miralem Pjanicare both names mentioned that play for Roma. There is a good possibility it could be one of these.

Lenny

Agree2 Disagree1

I don't get it. When someone comes on here with information from someone who knows them quite well i. e. a friend or relative you automatically assume it's bull? Then why do you come on here? Clearly this sort of site is for the people who've managed to get an inside scoop on something in some way. Granted people will abuse this but not everyone will and for once I have a good source i. e. my own dad who has been a loyal saint for over 70 years.

Agree8 Disagree4

Sounds great but I think defensive cover should be our priority for the new season. I guess time will tell.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's osvaldo

Agree0 Disagree0

How did your father get hold of this information?

Lenny

Agree1 Disagree0

Lenny, I have already sort of answered this in an earlier response but I'll attempt to give more detail in case it is in any way helpful.

Basically he's on a European sightseeing tour and has decided to tour as many 'top' football grounds as he can as well. He's in Rome at the moment for a few days and today he was touring the Stadio Olimpico, from which he called me very excitedly earlier to tell me where he was and that he'd seen someone, who he was certain was Cortese, show up in a fancy car and get greeted by someone who he assumed was a chairman/manager of Lazio or Roma (i. e. the two clubs who play there) and security were preventing him getting to talk to either of them, or give away any information on who they were, or what they were doing. That's pretty much all I know about it.
Sorry I can't be much more help about specific players or any other information but feel free to ask other questions and I'll do my best to answer but I think I've pretty much given all the information I have on this one.

Agree5 Disagree0

You can't say fairer than that Lenny!

Agree3 Disagree0

Your dad had you on mate ha

Cortese has traveled to Italy on what is transfer business. Various sources indicate that Davide Astori is one of them after failed bids in January and 1 other player playing in Italy

Believable9 Unbelievable4

We're linked to a lot of Serie A players at the moment so it's anybody's guess really, if this is true anyway.

Agree5 Disagree2

Alan Nixon has reported that Nicola is looking to make a big money signing in Italy so this certainly could be true. I would be chuffed with Astori.

Lenny

Agree3 Disagree2

Doubt it's Astori, Cortese is in Rome and Calgiari's around 400 miles away on a different island. More likely to be someone from Roma or Lazio.

Agree7 Disagree0

Lorenzo insigne

Agree2 Disagree2

How do u know cortese is in rome

Agree0 Disagree1

Insigne plays for Napoli?

Agree1 Disagree1

Naples is nowhere near Rome if that is where Cortese is. If it were Insigne, it wouldn't be happening in Rome.

Agree3 Disagree1

He can travel from to another part of Italy after being in Rome you know! That is possible! He isn't limited to one place in Italy per visit!

Agree0 Disagree0

To be honest, I really hope it is Davide Astori. We havn't really had much trouble scoring goals this season it's been conceding them, so I would hope that a new centre back comes first.
