Loan or buy?

Agree3 Disagree1

Lets hope so!

Agree7 Disagree1

It's a loan deal though I think.

Agree4 Disagree3

Its a permanent deal.

I reckon we give him another chance, we can't forgive what he did, but he's a class act and we'll struggle with our attacking options

Agree2 Disagree18

Terms have been agreed, saints wanna sell him so are looking for a price. Hopefully we get something decent but if saints are asking for the 15 mil we paid for him they can think again

Rumour has it that Celtic are going to want stupid money for Forster. Everybody keeps on about how great he is but when did you see him play? I doubt that you have all been eagerly tuning in to the SPL and that said he is only 3rd choice for England which to me doesn't say much. Now then, get back in touch with Solksaer at Cardiff and offer sensible money for David Marshall. If he was English I am sure he would be above Forster in the pecking order as top keeper. I watched a lot of him last year and he really was outstanding all season.

Peopleschoice says Ron Vlaar nearly done, not according to the bookies he was 6/4 to sign yesterday and is 7/4 today. These odds are very generous for bookies and if the deal was about to happen they would either suspend the betting or offer ludicrous odds of about 1/12. The satchel man is seldom wrong.

Agree3 Disagree2

If clubs are asking we pay the 8 - 10 million asking price for Marshall or Forster, why not look at Begovic, surely would cost about the same, yet with years of prem experience and still only 28 (I think)

Agree5 Disagree3

I would prefer Forster to be honest. Having said that, I think that Artur will testify to the fact that Begovic has quite a useful long ball!! :)

Vlaar deal nearly finalised believed to be in the region of £9m has been told he will be the captain.

What happened to vlaar is not leaving?

i don't see why everyone is so hyped up by the ron vlaar transfer only cause he had a great WC in a 5-3-2 system doesn't mean he's as good in a system with 4 defenders

Agree11 Disagree12

The Express also says Hamburg are competing with Southampton to land Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk and are preparing a £6million bid - although the paper also reports that figure is likely to be rejected by the Scottish champions.

Agree8 Disagree0

Reports saying spurs now in for vlaar as per usual les and the boys taking to long to sign there targets

Agree8 Disagree3

We may well sign him but can't see him being instantly made captain, Fonte for me.

Agree4 Disagree10

Any deal for vlaar will drag on. with just a year left on his contract and lambert not wanting to sell him they will be holding talks & putting down offers etc.

All Koeman said was that he was a possibility, I'm sure there is a long list of people who could possibly be brought in. I think Vlaar is a top player and I wouldn't complain if he did sign, but I do think the amount of money Villa would ask for, if we did make a bid, could be spent on a better player IMO

Isn't he captain with Villa? Might be the final strae to get him here. can't see its as close as o.p says. Is mentioned on newsnow that we want him and villa might struggle to get him to say now villa are being sold.

As far as de vrij, aren't Man U in for him?

Agree6 Disagree0

Instantly making him captain is ludicrous, could see that annoying the likes of Fonte and Schneiderlin as well which we don't really want to do in our situation.

Agree4 Disagree5

@dj-mcg Vlaar is a great cb he's pretty much the sole reason villa haven't gone down yet and he'll probably be even better in a defense that doesn't let him down as much

Agree5 Disagree3

@saint marco just because it's been reported that another team are in for a player doesn't mean the board are taking too long. Everyone knows the club do things on the quiet, we could be at any stage of negotiations with any team for any player. Be patient, quit moaning about the board when you have no facts to back it up

Agree9 Disagree2

Vlaar is not as good as lovren simple as that we have taken a step backwards with all our signings so far.

Agree4 Disagree8

Maybe but 20m would get us vlaar and van dijk who is mustard. and we would have change left.

Agree6 Disagree2

Lallana T**tbeard is not as good as Tadic and Sir rl is not as good as Pelle and Targett? can kick with his right foot, Shaw can't.

Agree6 Disagree5

Vlarr is not worth 5 million. Good defender but think we should look elsewhere someone a bit younger

Agree2 Disagree7

I agree, I'd prefer someone younger than Vlaar, and all Koeman said was that he's a possibility

Agree2 Disagree3

Vlaar would be a straight replacement, but short term replacement. I would trust vlaar to do a good job as he has plenty of pl experience. We should also buy another, but if they have no pl experience it would be risky.
That said I don't feel we will get him. I can't see us bidding 9m as we only bid 3. 5 for Forster. I doubt we would make him captain

Agree0 Disagree2

I agree with Saintsmiff that he would be a short term replacement. Similar to Pellegrini bringing Demichelis to Man City because he knew he would get the job done, Aston Villa will want more than 5 million at the bare minimum, which is too high for a short term replacement IMO

Agree0 Disagree2

why would he want to leave Villa for soton

Agree2 Disagree6

Because villa will do well to remain in the prem during the next 3 seasons. Lerner didn't want to bank roll villa to take them to the next level hence MON left. Been on a slippery slope since. Saints maybe a mid table team now but future prospects are brighter.

Agree3 Disagree1

He may want leave as he isn't getting any younger and may want a new challenge. Previously working with koeman is also a plus. The question you should ask, is why he would want to stay at villa? They are as guilty of saints of lacking ambition and the fact that villa are up for sale, can't see any changes there for a while

Vlar is a top lead defender. He completely controled the dutch back line which was one of the best defensive units in the world cup. Just because you play a back 5 doesn't necesarrly make your job easier. As a lead defender you have more bodies to keep inline, which he did fantastically. As well as keeping villa up last season and having tons of prem experience. As RK likes to play a back 5 anyway he would be a perfect fit, and at 29 he is probably into his best years as a player. Would give us at least 3 or 4 real good seasons and allow a younger CB like van dijk or de vrij or someone to develop and take over. Think he would be a top signing

Don't know if this is true but just because Lambert said he's not for sale doesn't mean the owner won't sell, at the end of the day it will be him that accepts or rejects a bid. He wants out of the club doesn't he
