Believable7 Unbelievable4

You surely mean Dusan, right?
I'm not sure a woman would hack it in the BPL.

Lol what a fail by ruffhead ;)

Agree5 Disagree11

Him and pelle are considerd the best two players in the eredivisie. Would be good for southampton

Agree8 Disagree2

Not really a fail you state, just an auto correct mistake

Agree6 Disagree6

Tadic sounds like a very good player, could be a very good first signing

Agree5 Disagree2

I would deem a pointless reply a fail over a typo / autocorrect. But that's me. However not using a capital when using someones log on name is also a fail. Back to the point - quality player and for me would be realistic.

So here we go again, more foreigners coming into the premier league in place of English talented youngsters, I actually thought that our club was bucking the trend of bringing in average foreigners, because that is what they will be, because if they were that great then the really big clubs would be snapping them up. If we take a look at players in and around the fringe of the England squad a great number of them have passed through our academy and club, so what is the point of bringing these foreigners in? Try to keep the players we have would be a better option and give the academy boys a real chance, because it doesn't sound like they are going to do that now. No wonder the England team has so little to choose from when every premier league team plays with a majority of foreigners, I thought we were different, shame on the club, shame on the Premier league

Wow saintjones I understand the pessimism surrounding the England team but I think your comments on Southampton are unfounded. If we are to make a sustained effort of achieving CL football then we need to increase the side of squad and create competition for places. Fact is academy players are not the finished article and will need to be drip feeded into the first team over the coming years. I have no doubt we will continue our path of promoting youth otherwise we would not have spent so much on training facilities. Any company in the UK would only promote an employee when they are good enough for the higher position. They would not keep that position empty until someone is ready to make the step up. Remain positive! I am sure it will all be ok!

Agree12 Disagree4

1- You can't have a go at Southampton not bucking the trend when we haven't actually signed anyone yet. This is all just rumor and speculation non of it is actual fact.

2- Southampton had a good amount of English players last season and all credit to them for doing so, but whilst we develop the next crop (assuming Lallana and Shaw leave) 'average' foreign players may have to fill in as the 'top' ones are snapped up by bigger clubs.

I personally think Saints are a good role model to the leagues blending good home grown talent with some foreign players. I can see future England squads lined fully with our academy products

Agree11 Disagree4

English players are well overpriced, lallana and shaw are not worth what is being offered and lallana wouldn't be nowhere near the amount that's being talked about if he was foreign. that's a pretty good reason to search elsewhere

Agree5 Disagree4

What nonsense! Sorry but blaming the failings of our national team on saints showing an interest in a foreign player is ludicrous! Considering all good players to come through our ranks in recent years have all LEFT us and moved to clubs that have ruined them (bale aside) I can't see how we are to blame.

Agree8 Disagree4

I think Ings would be a great addition instead of foreign players. Any news ed? coyr

Agree5 Disagree10

It's about finding a balance, many said J Rod was over priced but now 8m seems like a bargain for him, we need a combination of both IMO, we need more squad depth to push on next year including a keeper, CB, ST and possibly and attacking mid like Tadic who can play off the striker, some of our academy will fill these postions I'm sure, others will be signed, I don't worry about signing foreign players as we'll always have an abundance of young talent in our squad due to our youth academy

Agree5 Disagree4

Tadic would be the perfect replacement for lallana if he leaves, he plays very similar and and is known as one of the best players in the eredivisie. Speaks of lallana once again being watched by liverpool againmakes me thing the tadic deal could well take place

Agree4 Disagree3

So its ok to think more of your club at the expense of the national side then? And when England are pitiful at major tournaments and you are deflated and crying in your beer (figure of speech) You will still be in denial as to what the real reasons for the mess the national side is in. I can go back to the days when clubs would have all local lads laying in their youth set ups and even just british lads and we had a much stronger England set up. The balance is not right now and something has to be done with it, or do you not really care about England? If all clubs had a quota on foreigners then I think yo will find that we would have a much better chance of champions league qualification, after all we had a strong youth set up under Big Lawrie and brought through our younger payers with great older English players. I for one want to see a strong England team, and feel the way I did when I thought we had a chance of winning something, if you don't want that then fair enough, but I suspect you are the sort of people who moan about how bad England are, and I bet you are gutted inside too

Agree5 Disagree5

And one more point, as to English players being more expensive than foreign players is in part due to the fact that English players are at a premium because there are so few of them, and if you get an English youngster given a chance to shine in the Premier league ( and what's the BPL by the way? lol) and has a good season or two in the premier league then they are bound to be more expensive than players coming from places like the French league or dutch or Belgian and the like as these league are deemed to be inferior and bringing in players that are not from top clubs are bound to be cheaper as they would not be tried and tested in the premier league, hence why so many foreign players are so mediocre, so please tell me why this is better than all the premier league having a quota on say a max of 4-5 foreign players in a squad, not a team but a squad?

Agree4 Disagree1

^ Even if we had to top English talent would they get picked? Look at Clyne & Chambers - probably the best English RBs over the whole of last season, Hodgson took Johnson with Jones as back up and even stuck Milner at RB before him. Look at Cork, we all know how good he is, Hodgson must have seen him a few times over the season. Did he get picked? No. Would he have been a better choice than Lampard or Milner? Yes. I know Lallana, Shaw, Lambert were picked, but how much did they really play? And would they have been picked without the hype from the press?

one foreign player isn't going to make a difference when you have teams like city who played a grand total 3? English players last season. At this point I'm used to England being rubbish, Saint's are who I spend my money watching week in and week out, as far as I'm concerned as long as Saints are doing well I couldn't give a stuff about the national team, so if Saint's need to buy someone foreign to improve the team then that's okay with me

I couldn't agree more that part of the reason England fail to do well in tournaments is due the lack of quality English players playing at top level in our league. I feel that this is very much down to many clubs not given their youths a chance at the top level. However Southampton have not been one of these clubs and have excelled at bringing through talent in the past and will continue to do so. You only have to look at the likes of chamber, ward-prowse, gallagher, shaw etc. I also think next season we will see much more of the likes of reed, Isgrove, stephens and many more of the lads making great progress. However to slate southampton for looking at foreign players is also wrong. Just look at what the likes of morgan schneiderlin, lovren and fonte have done for our club. Yes I feel we have far to many foreign players in the premier league however we are not one of those clubs which field only one or two English players. At the same time we do need to create depth and competition with high level talent for our younger guys to learn from. We also want to become more competitive so we can get into europe and are able to offer our players something to keep them at the club rather than feeling the need to move to bigger clubs where they can play at the very top level competition. With the lack of affordable English talent about unfortunately that does mean sometime we need to look abroad. That doesn't mean are ethos has changed or we are any less likely to field our English talent. We just need to make sure that we only bring in foreign players who are going to take our club forward and improve our club and not just to do a job that one of our lads can do. Also to put our performances in the world cup purely down to foreign players swamping the premier league is slightly unfair. If we want to improve our performance we need to take things right back to the grass roots level. Very few players are able to hold onto the ball and are comfortable with the ball at their feet (lallana withstanding). If we want that to change we need to coach kids at early stages how to play with the ball at their feet and not just boot the ball away from dangerous positions.

Saintjones. BPL = Barclays Premier League. Doh

Agree2 Disagree1

Let me have a try at putting this to bed. The reason england didn't do very well is because we simply don't have good enough world class players. The reason for this is down to a few things, the first being that teams at the top of the BPL have historically and currently " buy" the title with expensive world class players, this has been happening since utd, Blackburn even, arsenal and Chelsea and more recently man city. They buy the title rather than building towards it because the managers are out under pressure to get results TODAY. The wonders throw money at the clubs and they buy the top players. This stops the young good ENGLISH players breaking through. On top of this there seems to be a culture among youngsters now to play video games and watch TV. When I was a kid I played football all weekend and every evening after school, like they do in Brazil and Argentina. Now kids play playstation football. The reason why good English players move on to the top clubs for large fees is because uefa regulations stipulate that you need a certain number of English players in the squad and the big teams need these players to meet these regs. They pay the players a premium wage to attract them and this incentivises then to move on from clubs like us that can't guarantee regular European footbsll. Hence why the champions league is SOO important to qualify for. More important than even winning the title often and certainly more than the FA and league cup. Until we can get a regular stint in European football we will never be able to keep our great young English stars, unless we get a rare loyal player who as we all know, this country hasn't seen since MLT. And even before then was a long time ago. Until we see a player wage "cap" or transfer fee "cap" I honestly can't see it changing. And kids need to ask for footballs and football boots for Christmas rather than barca shirts and x boxes. #blatterout

Dear oh dear, Saints fans don't seem to be any different to all the others in this country, I actually thought we were better than that, sadly it appears different. Is it any wonder English football is in such a mess? Looks to me that there's very little passion for our country in this forum. I always though supporting your home team and your national team ran parallel with each other, it always has for me. I actually thought we were bucking the trend at saints bringing young English players through. Judging by what has been reported as we are linked with it looks very doubtful we will continue bucking that trend and join the rest of the premier league and buy Johnny Foreigner. Judging by those reports it looks like the departure of our England boys and their replacements being foreign with a few more foreign for other positions it looks like the only two positions not to be filled will be Clyne/Chambers and Jay Rods, all the others look like they will be foreign if those reports come to fruition. I care about my club but not at the expense of my nation, I come from a generation who cares about their country. The other clubs have been banging their nails into England's coffin for years, and it now seems, if those reports are true, Saints fans are willing to pick their hammers up and join in. let's just see how many English players are regulars for us this coming season to see if I am right, sadly I suspect I will be.

According to reports in Portugal saints in for paulinho from Livorno for 10million euro's

Believable9 Unbelievable6

Does anyone know much about him. I know that he has played in lower leagues for most of his career and is 29 in January. Surely we should look to buy someone younger with potential, especially as this transfer of osvaldo look a like paulinho would cost £8 million.

Agree4 Disagree0

Very good player. Watched a lot of him last season. Would be thrilled to have him at Saints.
