Good win today and exciting to be in the last 16 despite the problems in the last 2 weeks, fantastic that Gallagher gets his first goal and good for Guly scoring today, showed great team spirit letting him take the penalty which is exactly what we need at the moment, you may moan about him but you forget he's still been with us since league 1 and is probably one of the longest serving players in the current squad, also want to say it's great seeing Sharp score for Doncaster today good on him, one of my favorite players that has been loaned out and I still think he's worth a crack in the prem, rather him than Osvaldo tbh

Believable14 Unbelievable2

Sharp struggled in the Championship with Reading, that's why he's back at Doncaster.

The good news is Sam Gallagher, he took the goal very well, had a great chance for a second too. Rodriguez was wasteful today, Lambert has been off form lately and Osvaldo God knows!

Dow e have any good CBs in the academy? As there are vacancies opening up

Agree3 Disagree2

Jack stephens and jordan turnball both very confident

Agree6 Disagree1

Stephens and Turnball aren't ready for Prem football

Agree7 Disagree1

Central defenders need to be a bit more mature than most positions on the pitch so I think we need to buy rather than rely on our youth players. would love to see omar rowe given a chance in the first team if adam misses a game and joss sims in the under 18 is going to be a star in a couple of years

Agree3 Disagree0

Josh Debayo is our likely CB star in the academy, signed from Chelsea's academy and has already signed a pro deal with us. Our youngsters will rule the roost in English football in 5 years time.

Agree7 Disagree1

I agree, Jack Stephens, Jordan Turnball, from the 21's, along with Josh Debayo are all very highly rated, but need more time to allow them to develop. Jack and Jordan have been training with the first team on a fairly regular basis, and Josh has moved up from the 18's to the 21's from time to time. This is something that the club does (to allow the smooth integration from on age group to the next level) on a fairly regular basis for the odd week, before the player drops back down.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have heard Southampton have been trying to set up a deal to loan out Jack Stephens and Jordan Turnbull together to a lower league club to allow them to get used to the first team game playing off each other. I think it would be great for the two of them to achieve that and when they came back who knows how good they could be.

Agree2 Disagree1

Guly was absolute s*** against yeovill, after he scored his first goal in two years he just gave the ball away all game, was in yeovills pockets all game, looked way out of his depth, when will people admit the guys a terrible footballer?

Reading Man U have bid 22m for shaw. 15m and Hernandez and I would accept that, buy a left back out of the 15m we would receive.

Tonythesaint

Believable6 Unbelievable24

There is no amount of money and no player it is acceptable to sell Shaw for right now. We need him for the rest of the season at least. He is a very important player and selling him to bring in someone who would be less likely to want to stay for a prolonged period of time is ridiculous as a notion.

Agree13 Disagree3

I am glad Tony the Saint is not running our team. Clearly has no idea of the real value of Shaw or the long term plan for the team.

Agree12 Disagree1

15 mil wouldn't buy another Luke Shaw

Agree10 Disagree0

Ya! Tony your rubbish stop having an opinion of your own and support your club! Please!!
Get shaw sold he's a left back no a 30 goal a season forward!
Anyway we can use fox he's amazing!

Agree1 Disagree12

Shaw in 2yrs. £40 mill plus?

Agree8 Disagree6

The long term plan for the team, we don't even no the long term plan for the club anymore. Look at the dip in form when we had are previous injury problems, now we are here again and still we won't strengthen. Selling shaw is good in the long run it gives us chance to strengthen the team in all areas bringing in 3 10 million pound players better for squad depth. A good left back is a luxury but it isn't the spine of your team. Losing shaw is not the end of the world, just ask for a good sell on fee so we don't get stung like the bale deal again.
As for the comment about support your club I've been a season ticket holder for 12 years is that good enough support for you

Tonythesaint

Agree6 Disagree2

Tony if we feel like we need to add depth we can cough up the cash and do it without the sale of Shaw, people seem to forget that we have a billionaire owner, also our project is still on, read the club statement from the chairwomen, she emphasizes the Southampton way, Poch loves bringing through young talent and as Shaw is gunna be one of the best LB's in the world when he's older, we no longer need to sell we just have to make sure our young team keeps improving which it is, this year go for top 8, next year top 6 year after that who knows, the point is if the project is done properly and we keep building then the plan is to become the English Barcelona and as we have arguably the best youth academy in the country, we now has state of the art training facilities, a rich commited owner and a great manager we don't need to sell.

Agree3 Disagree1

We'll said tony, and everyone is intitled to there opinion

Agree4 Disagree2

You need to wake up, if any of the top 4 clubs come in and offer shaw 100k a week and champions league football he's going to go. Agree we are building in the right direction but we are no where near yet.

Tonythesaint

Agree7 Disagree5

Well said Tony!
As for the get behind your team and don't have a opinion it was just a bit of sarcasm aimed at the people having a dig at you for having a mind of your own! And not plastic fans repeating the same old rubbish?
Every thing you've said has been spot on!

Agree5 Disagree2

Agree mostly with Tony in this above discussion.

Also, why would Shaw, who is a Chelsea fan and from the Chelsea area of London, feel the need to stay at mid-table Southampton? He's done his part for the club already, and the cash we could get for him would be a good return. He could become the next Bale, Giggs, Messi whatever, or he could just as easily pick up a career ending injury (see Paul Lake of Manchester City) or just fizzle out of the form completely and end up nowhere near the level predicted (Julian Joachim springs to mind)

We're just lucky Shaw even plays for us. It was Chelsea who let him go when he was much younger, they may rgeret that now. But, then again Chelsea really seem to have too many good talents and very few come of substance in the Chelsea team (Josh McEachran!!)

If a club like Man United or his own beloved Chelsea come calling I sure wouldn't begrudge him or be surprised, if he took the transfer.

Obviously I would rather Saints kept Luke Shaw, and all of the good/better players and progressed as a team and a club. Would love to become the English Barcelona, but quite frankly, so do a dozen other clubs.

So, get off Tony's back. He's a supporter of the club, and is fully deserved of his own views. We all are.

Good win against Yeovil, no slip ups and it's nice to see Gallagher on the score sheet. I'd love to win (or reach the final) the FA Cup this season (any/every season!) - and we have a chance, if the draw goes our way again.

Finally, well played Bournemouth in their great game against the mighty Mersey reds. Bournemouth pretty much out-played Liverpool for the majority of the 90 minutes. Every player did brilliantly. Round of applause to them.

Saint Etienne.

Agree2 Disagree0

I think we should only sell shaw when he himself wants to go.
. Shaw wants to stay
. We don't want to sell
. After summer he could potentially be worth a lot more than he is now
. Make sure we have secured a replacement before we were to sell

I agree with tony the saint about using the money, and also we are miles away from champions league. But most fans knew it wouldn't happen overnight. But selling shaw now would have a negative effect on the squad and send the wrong message to other young bright players.

Agree1 Disagree0

There's still an outside chance (if Cole or Baines get injured) that Shaw will end up in the WC squad, and if that happens it could have one three effects: 1 - he plays, his value sky-rockets, we sell for loadsamoney. 2 - other players from around the world take note of Shaw and Lallana (probably not RL or JR), see Saints as a good option, we sign a couple of world class players, and Shaw stays on seeing us as serious contenders for trophies. 3 - he goes to WC, speaks to Cahill, Cole, Lampard (?), and gets talked into putting in a transfer request. If 1 happens, hopefully we reinvest wisely and Targett comes through soon (but Clyne can cover with Chambers at RB). If 2 happens it would be incredible and would hopefully be the springboard to the next level we need. If 3 happens it would be terrible. But whatever happens we need serious investment in players, as we have a seriously disturbing lack of squad depth. By next season, if we keep hold of everyone (excluding excess baggage), we need a GK (cover/competition for Boruc), 2 x CB (to replace Fonte + cover), 1 x ACM (link between midfield and attack), 1 x winger (for the plan b we don't have), 1 x CF (a 20+ goals per season man). We could be great, regardless of not being a big city. It would take a lot of money, but Champions League in a couple of years would soon recoup the investment!

Agree2 Disagree0

U really want to be left with fox!

The mirror are reporting that we are looking at Eder of Sampdoria if we can ship out Osvaldo.

Believable8 Unbelievable2

Lots of posters are suggesting we should be getting players in on loan. I, for one, do not want us to bring players in on loan (unless it is with a view to a permanent deal). The whole way Saints are set up, especially with regards bringing players through the academy, is about building for the future. If we bring a couple of players in for the rest of the season, and it bumps us up to 7th, what have we really gained? It just denies our own players the chance of gaining experience and leaves us worse off the following season. Look at West Brom - with Lukaku they looked very dangerous, but after he returned to his own club he left a huge hole that they haven't been able to fill.

Agree9 Disagree1

A loan deal till the end of the season is a good idea because we can't plan any further than that.
The manager won't commit past this season and we don't really know if KL wants to sell or not yet. So who is going to sign on a long term contract until all this is cleared up?

Agree5 Disagree4

Agree not all loans are bad and like he's said no one will sighn for us untill we know the future of any sale of the club of the manager will stay after summer well said that man at last someone thinking for himself!
You want be very popular on this site mate! The sheep don't like it when you have an opinion of you own lol

Agree2 Disagree6

We all may be against loan deals, but think how handy it would be if Osvaldo was only on loan? He could go back at the end of the season, with us only out of pocket for his wages.
Actually, there should be a 'try before you buy' scheme, could save a whole lot of money. Just saying.

Agree2 Disagree0

Well said there Zambucco.

Try before you buy would be a wonderful thing in football. Perhaps that's something they could introduced as an upgraded version of top flight club loans. I'd be all for it.

Love Kelvin Davis' comments re Osvaldo. Juventus or Inter can have him, take a loss if needed be on like-for-like transfer value, but we'd save a fortune on wages (I haven't seen his paycheck mind you)
Good player, very talented etc, but too much baggage and now a concern for our team, who it seems are generally a good bunch of guys.

Saint Etienne.

Agree0 Disagree2

He's estimated to be on about 70k a week, more than any other Saints player. Add that to the bonus' he'll have (every player is reported to have clean sheet bonus' in their contracts to make them all chase the ball - something Cortese bought in), then I think we'll be saving a chunk.

Josh

Agree1 Disagree1

He doesn't get paid whist suspended by club & also copped a fine for the newcastle fracus. If anyone will be despwrate for clean sheets or goals it will be ossie

Agree1 Disagree0

Has anyone ever heard of a loan with an option to buy?

Fee agreed at the time of the loan, and club have the length of the loan to make the payment.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed007's Note - That's exactly the way you signed Hooiveld from Celtic. He was allowed to sign permanently outside of the normal window because he was already registered as your player and there was an option to buy in the loan deal.}
