A website just annouced that according to the press association jay rod and schneiderlin close to signing for spurs don't know how much but terrible news

maybe she is now just selling to get money in then selling the club?

surely ron koeman cannot be sanctioning these transfers if he is his reputation is going down the pan very rapidly

Agree12 Disagree9

It's not terrible news it's football. We all need to calm down and wait to see. It's time to rebuild the team and IMO rk knows what's going on with the situation with club and players. You can't expect spider and j rod to hang around when the team they played with is now gone? I have faith in rk and believe he has a few aces up his sleeve. Time to rebuild and time to stop thinking worst. I will be gutted if they go but there are other players out there that will come and want to be part of this new project

Agree19 Disagree9

But you know it won't stop. Clyne, Wanyama, Cork, Davis, Fonte, sharpe, Yoshida, Gaston even Boruc they can all realistically still leave for middle Prem upper championship sides. On the train home from London today I heard a rumour that the Koeman bros are ready to walk. A small dark part of my soul wishes Frau Liebherr having further swelled her already immense bank account would show us a little bit of compassion and mercy and withdraw Southampton FC from all professional football before the 2014/15 Southampton season is footballing slaughter. But then who has ever heard of a compassionate German?

Agree8 Disagree13

The only thing that baffles me is why would reed want to be a part of taking apart a team and lying to its fans. It's surely going to make it harder for him to be trusted by other fans when he moves on after we get sold

Agree7 Disagree4

I agree, it is looking more and more like that now, players aren't even being asked to stay. We aren't putting up a fight to keep them yet we are fighting to get as much as possible for every transfer. It does stink of generating a big pot of funds then selling off the remaining as a premier league outfit. I think we may see the club up for sale by November.
It looks like that's what KL wants and would explain why NC and MoPo left and then subsequently the players. As they all have said they wanted to stay while NC was still here, particularly dining the "southampton way" not if we can win the league but when. KL seems to have put that vision well and truely in the bin

Agree6 Disagree8

Pure saint, he may need more than a few aces up his sleeve, he will want a whole pack of them at this rate!

Agree9 Disagree0

Like every one James saint, I hope you are wrong, But if it walks like one, if it sounds like one, if it looks like one. it probably is a duck!!!

Agree6 Disagree0

28 Jul 2014 21:40:21
To sell as many as we have in as short a time is not good for the teams rep orthe fans. To have nothing obvious in place currently and for the vague comments by reed are awful. Yes it is football. But. When waa the last time we heard of a team selling this many players in such a short time? Whomever we get in now has an uphill battle to become part of a team. I don't think we will be relegated. yet. But it is going to be a tough slog. Especially if the rumours of a lowe style few in happens

Agree7 Disagree0

What would be the disaster is if the money is not pumped back into the club then I will eat my words. Come on you lot at the top get your fingers out of your bottoms and start making some decent signings

Agree7 Disagree0

The JRod deal was sorted a long time ago, by all accounts when Poch contacted his parents in March about a move to Spuds. Get these players out, they will only become toxic, believe it or not we will be better off without them. Wanna go. well toddle off then.

Jamesaint you may be right but I live and pray!!

If she is selling who would want to buy a club with no assets & doomed for relegation. The club obviously believes the hype about the academy but we all know what happened last time round

Its all well and good getting the money in before doing anything but everyone Knows we have it and will charge accordingly. To not have replacements ready for leavers defies more logic the more I think about it

Agree6 Disagree1

Exactly it cabbage. try the penny pinching all we want but we will be held to ransom. other teams know we are desperate for players and have a pile of money.

I keep on reading that we are victims of our success. I think we are the victims of liebherrs greed why won't she just take her money and f. k off. sell up to someone who cares before we join pompy

Agree9 Disagree8

I would like to be able to say something of use. I am just flabbergasted. If our Manager keeps us up then He has to be the best ever. Still worried he will go!
He must have known this was coming, if not, how can he stay. I am just lost for words, as I guess most of you are.

Over the last 32 years I have watched southampton sell to survive in the world of football
I was dismayed when Adkins was sacked and had never heard of ponchetio
To be honest let's look at the facts
the English football team was about as effective in the world cup as could be expected and although we finished the best we ever have in the premier league standings I was disappointed with the loyalty of the players we had. but at least they have shown their colours sooner rather than later!

the fact is we have managed to sell our over priced english contingent to the team that came second in the league. question why would the guys who came second want to boulster the team with 8th???
the fact that for the first time in my following of the saints we have the best part of £100 million to invest in players.
I am happy to see some very tallented players begin to land from other places and if our past ability to scout and buy great players is anything to go by I have the comfort in knowing we have replaced a manager who had a good season then jumped ship with one who has real footballing pedigree and handed him the money required to replace the over priced english pre-madonnas we sold. doesn't bode well for the national squad but hey I gave up on that team a long time ago!
we are linked with some real class and have the funds to pay for them for a change

lets give Koeman our support in building a team who wants to play in the red and white stripes and thank liverpool for providing us the opportunity to really build depth and further bring through the countless youth stars through buy paying well over the odds for ungrateful ex saints
if there is a higher footballing being we will smash the scallies in the first game of the season role on european football and a top 6 finish (fingers crossed we sign the dutch reserve/first team as its better than the english first team at liverpool right now! :P

Agree15 Disagree6

I am really struggling to agree with you. BUT, for the moment ok! We are still seeing slow, penny pinching, and consequently players are going elsewhere. I honestly don't rate our Buyers if that's what they are. Speed and urgency are needed once you have identified your target, we don't seem to understand the basics of buying. If I am wrong, then show me the replacements!!

I'd like:
GK: Fraser Forster
CB/RB: Micah Richards
CB/LB: Marcus Rojo
ST/RW/LW: A bit like Jay Rod but not sure who we should sign here, maybe Vela or someone else ambitious

Believable6 Unbelievable5

Do not expect any big money signings, and Micah Richards is an over-rated player don't know why so many people on here so keen on him. Rather take De Vrij or Van Dijk. Jason McCarthy can cover RB for us.

Agree4 Disagree2

Strike De Vrij from that list, at the time I was unaware of the Lazio move.

Agree2 Disagree0

I do expect some big money signing because otherwise we will struggle a lot next year, I like a lot of other fans will be very angry if there are no big money signings as we have nearly got £100m in transfers

Agree2 Disagree1

We won't be spending £100million, we have been doing a lot of debt servicing and striking with the money. I would imagine we will get 3/4 more players in at £10million (at most) each to rebuild a squad capable of at least putting up a survival fight.

Agree5 Disagree2

Maybe Vermalen would be a good option? We need someone proven in soon and leaders

Agree6 Disagree1

I agree st phil. However perhaps the club shouldn't have promised us fans that every penny will be re invested on players. I imagine they have some nice fancy Philippino children in the boardroom to hold the board members drinks instead of using coasters

Agree2 Disagree2

I don't expect the whole £100m to be spent on players, parts should be reinvested in the infrastructure of the club, would be exciting to spend a £100m on a team though, that's 10 £10m pound signings! Could get a great team with that aha

Sunderland in for Virgil van Dijk from Celtic. Southampton need to make move now or risk missing out on him too.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

De Vrij has signed for Lazio. : ( Gutted

Agree4 Disagree1

28 Jul 2014 19:36:10
We are always too slow and penny pinching. Assuming the board genuinely want to spend any money anyway. By now virtually anyone who would sign has been or will be snapped up elsewhere. All we will be left with is championship quality players,. Which is just as well as that's we are heading

Agree4 Disagree2

Also, Marquee signings, whatever that means won't want to come to a club that has seen so many leave in one window, a neutral observer would think we were the ones to have got relegated last season, what with the *rap that's gone on this summer.

Agree2 Disagree1

28 Jul 2014 17:30:47
I'm reading on loads of sites (via Newsnow) that Spurs are closing in on Morgan and Jay-Rod!

There have been rumours all summer about MoPo coming back for a few of our players, but the page is awash with this news and I can't help it's no smoke without fire!?

Believable6 Unbelievable0

Well the club have said 27 mill is what needed to sign spider! can you see spurs stumping that sum up? and j rod has to be at least 20 / 25 mill??

Agree4 Disagree2

This literally leaves wan, clyne and fonte that was in the first team last season. And fonte is subject to offers from Cardiff. This really is getting STUPID now! I have a feeling that one massive tesco is going to be in at Mary's next season where our stadium used to be

Agree2 Disagree3

28 Jul 2014 19:39:55

if other sites are right
j rod and schniederlin will be gone withih 48 hours

forestsaint

Agree3 Disagree1

Jrod has agreed terms with Spurs when the two teams met in Toronto last week.
If I were everybody I would get a pinch of salt and chuck it at the screen every time I see anything whatsoever.

Agree1 Disagree0

Yeah, I read that I didn't think we went to Canada pre-season? I thought the board would only stump up for 15 foot passengers on the Harwich-Hook of Holland ferry. Apparently the board did want to go to France but (like our transfers) they took to long deciding Dover- Dunkirk or Dover-Calais and lost the group booking deal.

Agree1 Disagree0

I hate to be doom and gloom, but if both of them leave as well I think it's a clear indication as to were we are heading.

Agree3 Disagree1

28 Jul 2014 16:36:44
Jeez. Heard that Morgan and JRod want to go to Spurs even with his ACL. Seems judging by the previous, all Saints will and can do is ask big money. Just passing info I've heard on.

Agree3 Disagree1

Looks like it's pretty odds on. It seems all they have to do in knock on Les Reed's door and tell him, "I'm not happy" "my future lies elsewhere" "I want to progress" "I want a club with ambition"

No problem son, we'll be getting good money for you. We'' probably pick up a foreigner twice as good as you for less than half you money. He'll probably last a season and we'll knock him out for a good profit too.

"Ron, get a few of the kids ready, we'll be needing them"

I hear from lawyers in the City both to Spurs is a done deal! Omfg.

We need to get rid of the board and owners. Why are the fans kidding themselves! Trust me, I wasn't even protesting against Lowe ever so I do not say that easily.

Wtf is actually going on at OUR club?!

Agree4 Disagree0

28 Jul 2014 22:20:45
I did say a few days ago this was happening. Spider and Jay gone. We need to wake up and smell the coffee, this woman does not like football. I want tI know exactly where this money is going. I get she might want to make some money but sell one player a year and she will. That is a good business model. This means we will go down which from a business perspective makes no sense. What is the football strategy and what is the business strategy here. Why are we being kept in the dark. We fans provide the mist revenue so deserve to know better!

Agree1 Disagree1

What I don't understand is why aren't we having an auction to the highest bidder for our players, let them all gazump each other until we get mental money, seems like a team wants a player, we make a deal with that club that we won't sell quickly to them as it might look weak to our fans and then after a week or so they are gone, no fuss. total joke. Mark my words KL is going to sell up wait and see. And Les Reed and Kruger will disappear with a nice bonus in their pockets

DeVrij has signed for Lazio

Believable3 Unbelievable2

28 Jul 2014 17:17:02
Firstly let's get it right how many players signed from the Orem league have been good enough to make it in the premier league I can think of only 2 (suarez and van nistelrooy). Vlaar is not a good enough replacement for lovren and he is 29 with him and fonte we would lack pace at the back. The same can also b said of the 2 players coming from Celtic Scottish football is league 1 standard wanyama was supposed to b the best thing since sliced bread but hasn't got a patch on cork or spider. I don't like being negative but reed needs to b ousted imo considering he himself admits he is in charge of transfers and contracts so has sold 5 of our starting 11 to date without even putting up a fight. But is dawdling spending any of it they say we have a war chest of supposedly a 100 million now well where has the premier leagueand sky money gone because we have raised the 100 million from selling surely koeman had say even a 20 million budget before payers even left. And debt wise we are in more than 30 million in debt so the sale of Shaw covered that on his own. I was very doubtful the moment Gareth Rogers and Ralf Kruger were put in charge neither of them are football men and clearly katherina either hasn't got the passion for the club her father did or she is being led down the wrong path into a bramble Bush by reed Kruger and rogers. I feel sorry for all my fellow fans who have already bought their season tickets and shirts I for 1 will purchasing neither untill I see at least the 100 million reinvested in the squad it's not like they need the money from shirt sale with what they've pulled in through transfers. Very disheartened lifelong fan who is rapidly falling out of love with the game what with everything happening at sms and with England x

Agree5 Disagree7

Confirmed?

Agree1 Disagree1

Vlaar, Bony, Fer, Van Der Wiel, Ericson, Ruiz, Eric Peters, Vertongon, Vermalin, Anderwield, Strootmen. have all done well since leaving the Eredivive, I know Van Der Wiel, Anderwield and Strootmen don't play in the prem, but they have all done well in there leagues since leaving, but I agree on some players like Luke De Jong, Bas Dost and Buttner have all been flops, but there are plenty who have done well too

Agree4 Disagree1

28 Jul 2014 18:08:11
Why would Liebherr want to oust Read he's doing a perfect job for her of asset stripping. They must both be Pompy fans

Agree5 Disagree7

Totally agree with dan the man

Agree1 Disagree1

In my humble opinion, Wanyama is streets ahead of Cork and one season behind Schneiderlin. He's got so much potential, a new Viera or Toure. S Davis is an absolute giant in that midfield a real unsung hero.
Van Dijk is young, fast and fit, has a great touch and vision, he won't take long to adapt.

But whoever we bring in, Ron will have his work cut out, getting them to play as a unit.

Agree6 Disagree2

Before MoPo left the club, the board came out and said they would give him a large TF budget for this window. With that in mind and the board saying the manager could spend every penny of transfer fees recieved we would/should have a sizeable tf chest PLUS the 92 million received thus far. Where is this money going?!? The wage budget must be huge also as we have lost all of our biggest earners so far aside from VW and spider (give it a few days). We couod be in for some BIG players. Ie falcao, isco, Bernard, robben Christ even BALE! yet we can't even sign a 7.5m keeper with only rumours of relatively unknown players from The Dutch league

Straight from Erwin's mouth - two signings coming in this week.

Believable7 Unbelievable4

I have just had to send my saints replica shirt back as it is far to small, I have Rodriguez printed on the back!

After the chambers deal I have decided to scrap Rodriguez on the back and plump for Le tissier!! At least he will never leave us!! COYR

28 Jul 2014 14:24:14
Hope so. I really do.
Be very pleased if the two were from Celtic.

Nows the time to get the new lot in and get my heart rate below 1000

Agree6 Disagree0

I have to hold my hands up with regards to the Chambers deal! I said I would and I have, Chambers requested the move and said he did not see his future with Southampton FC.

I cannot believe that someone who has played 25 first team games has been advised to move. Prime example of not being given the correct advise.

His career would improve at a quicker rate at southampton FC playing regular games.

Im now at the stage where if you don't want to play for us then f'ing do one!! 19 years old and thinks he is better than us, I truly find it unbelievable and I hope debuchy has an amazing season and keeps chambers out the arsenal first team!

Apart from Chambers which will be completed today there will be no more sales. The £27m price tag on Morgan Schneiderlin has scared everybody off, which is strange to me because out of all the players we have sold apart from Rickie Lambert them two are the only ones who are actually worth their transfer fees. Jay Rodriguez is set to sign a new contract with saints, he is set to be the main man in attack no matter who we bring in. Liverpool are interested in Rodriguez but cannot afford another £20m+ For a Southampton player, they are now going after superstar names. As for incoming transfers I'd expect Fraser Forster to be a Southampton player by the end of this week and Virgil Van Dijk is keen to move. Ronald Koeman has been given the £27m and £20m for the sales of Shaw and Lovren to spend plus big wages to offer potential players. Think it's going to start getting exciting for us now!

Believable12 Unbelievable17

28 Jul 2014 12:49:24
As much as I would love to believe all of this, I just can't. I'll believe it when I see it when the window closes!

Agree9 Disagree3

I feel sorry for Ronald Koeman, we have become a victim of our own success last season, and the big clubs have circled in on our best players.
The players themselves have joined this bandwagon happily as an opportunity to go to a bigger club and earn higher wages, and who can blame them.
Loyalty is no longer apart of this sport and player power has taken over due to agents conducting clubs like an orchestra.
Both Lallana and Shaw penned new deals only last year, yet still left, contracts aren't worth the paper they are written on.
The club is doing its utmost to get best price, but unfortunately we will be languishing next season.
We all need to be realistic that Southampton FC will NEVER challenge for a top four spot and be able to keep hold of our quality young players coming through.
We are a grooming club and a selling club, and it's called BUSINESS.
In the end money talks, and all this proves that a certain Matthew Le Tissier was a rare talent and amazingly loyal.

If Leroy Fer is the level of player we are looking at then lump on for relegation. We had a thin squad last season and got lucky with injuries. This year it's even worse with the heart and soul of the club ripped out by a owner who cares nothing for us fans. Les Reed let's here you defend this fire sale!

Believable8 Unbelievable15

28 Jul 2014 09:00:01
Do you know what a fire sale is? The heart and soul of the club are fans that stick by it and through thick and thin. We've been in worse positions and sold better players. Before you judge the board wait for the result at the end of the season. 4/4 wins and all clean sheets. Get a grip man. Could be worse we could be Pompey

4 players have gone 3 of whom refused to play for the club agian and have been sold for massively over inflated fees and 1 needed to be replaced sooner rather than later anyway. 2 have been replaced by younger and better players. 2 are in the process of being replaced.

There is no fire sale and as far as I can see, considering the first thing she done was bring back the stripes (for the fans (something the previous chairman refused to do)) and is currently clearing the debt the previous chairman created, we've got an owner who cares about the fans, so if you can prove me wrong, please do

Agree15 Disagree10

28 Jul 2014 09:45:08
its not about selling better players everyone expect one or two to be sold
the thing that fans are mad about is the number of players being sold
5 or more leaving is bound to get fans worried and it could be more if rumours are correct
forestsaint

Agree9 Disagree3

Romsaint: you get a grip!! we have a right to be very concerned as supports! as season ticket holders as people that put money into the club we love! and have done so for many many years.

You are right in saying its not a fire sale (sale at discounted prices) we are getting super fees for the players and we all expected a couple of players to leave but this has gone from bad to worse and now to dam right worrying!!

I was gutted that all these players were leaving but was willing to give the board a break but the chambers deal just does not make sense for Southampton football club and its a worrying time.

Yes I will always support the saints no matter what but at the moment we are allowed to voice our concerns with out you having a go at us.

I really do hope we make some super amazing signings before the start of the season but I don't see it at the moment. I do however have my fingers crossed.

I can't help thinking that this is the real reason Poch left, because he was told there would be massive changes ahead and maybe that's why Koeman was brought into the club. He had no money what so ever at Feyenoord but will go down as a legend for what he achieved there.

Please do the same for Southampton Ron but he should be given a warchest to get the people he wants in!

The club needs to come out and reassure the fans! Les Reed and the board are looking stupid at the moment with the comments they have made about not selling players and bringing / adding to the existing squad. Wee Reed we are very close to not having a first team!!

Agree10 Disagree7

28 Jul 2014 09:57:14
Leroy Fer is a very good player but has a long standing knee problem which scuppered a 9 million deal to Everton 2 years ago. Norwich reportedly paid 4.2 million for him and he managed nearly 30 games in the Premier league last season. To be a regular in the Dutch squad when you consider the quality they have in that department speaks volumes for the player! Would be an excellent signing offering more attacking midfield options which we desperately need. De Vrij is a superb young player and would be a snip at 8 million.

Agree10 Disagree2

28 Jul 2014 10:21:18
Well said SaintySaintSaint, seems to me most of this debt issue lies pretty squarely at Cortese's door with his open chequebook approach with someone else's money. The reason we are going through this " crisis " at the moment is two fold. Firstly to get some money in to pay off some of the debt and the other reason is quite unique. How many clubs of our size have ever had 4 current England players playing at the same time plus a French international and the Croatian captain. It has never happened in my memory, so obviously the " big boys " want them and money talks and thoughts of CL football creates their ultimate dream. If we were just a team like West Ham, Stoke, Villa etc. we would not have a problem because nobody would want to buy our players so no mass exit. The bonus of all this is we do have the money coming in to replace them and also the academy to keep churning out the talent. Sounds a top business plan to me. Keep the faith guys this could be the start of something quite massive.

Agree8 Disagree5

Wake up guys if you believe this is some positive master plan then dream on. Asset stripping at its best! Any bets on how many new faces will appear before 2 September, I reckon 3 if lucky.
Lovren I can accept a good deal and overrated but why Chambers, who will surely only increase substantially in value?
Now Jay Rod to Scouse rumoured and if this happens I will personally ram my first programme up Reeds a**e. For Christ's sake tell Rogers where to go.

Agree7 Disagree7

Chrisdownj, since we've sold our players, we NOW ARE a team like west spam, stoke, villa, etc

Agree7 Disagree4

It seems like we are not replacing our sold players with the same quality or better

Agree4 Disagree2

LN, precisely, replacing Lovern with Vlaar = no comparison, just look at the stats, less interceptions, ariel challenges won, Lovren better positioning, more successful pass rate
. . .

Message to the board:
For crying out loud, please sign someone this week. Most of the fans on this forum want your heads on a platter. They are all scared you are asset stripping. They are very scared and are beginning to lash out. I for one have complete faith in you whereas a majority on here are wetting their knickers, afraid we aren't going to sign anyone. Agree0 Disagree0

It really doesn't matter how much we get for these players unless the money is re invested. If we sold mayuka for 75 million I'd feel the same as if we got 590k for him as the money isn't going to get us goals next season UNLESS IT IS SPENT!

Just a quick one to WillsaSaint, I promise you we will end up above the teams you have mentioned. It would not be in the interests of the club to get relegated as if you are right and KL wants to sell she would need to have a viable asset to ensure the very best value. I know it hurts to have our team dismembered but think of the positives. Ronald Koeman can now buy who he thinks is right for the club and not have to make special arrangements to make room for the players who obviously had no real passion for the club and thought that we could not survive without them. We will and let's support the rest of the squad come the start of the new season they deserve at least that. Remember it was only 3 years ago we had a tough match at the weekend against Hartlepool! Sorry Jeff.
