EDS - any news on possible in comings in center midfield I heard that vihena is off but Koeman said we need one if cork goes so is there a possible incoming in midfield if so who??

{Ed002's Note - I think it unlikely.}

Djuricic in as a attacking midfielder who can play in the position that Long does. Bertrand now a permanent on a 4 and a half year contract. Wanyama and Spider in training close to return. Toby near as well. Young Gallagher played for under 21's last night - came through very well. Rodrigues might even return sooner than expected. Squad starting to shape up and look strong. Even if we are edged out of the top 4 at the end of the season - what a fantastic season. Predict next season we will be better and start worrying the so called big boys. In Koeman, the board, back room set up and our fantastic academy the future looks good. Have faith and belief COYR's

Still not sure why everybody is getting so excited about the return of Gallagher he is only a great prospect like most of the academy and was never really part of our first team. He only came on as a late substitute or when Rickie or JayRod were injured. Don't think it is fair to put this top striker image on him just before his return. He played 45 mins for the under 21's at Chelsea at which time we were 5 - 0 down and he hardly had a kick, so I don't see how you can say he came through the game very well. Give the lad a chance to improve himself in the under 21's and let's hope he can make an impact next season.

very overrated imo

Gallagher isn't the best striker around at the moment but at least he is another option.
At the moment we have one out an out centre forward and he needs a break IMHO
Hopefully then Pelle will come back fresh and scoring.

Just did a little digging on stats of Gallagher v Kane. Very similar last season. Kane didn't look anywhere near a first choice striker for Spuds last year so who knows what Gallagher could be in the future. (I'm not saying he is guaranteed to be prolific, I'm just saying get off his back until we see the finished article)

You may be right but why would we sit at St Marys until late at night trying to tie this up permanently ? He plays for us and we have him until the end of the season so would we not deal with this during the latter half of the season as there is no urgency. If they are still at St Marys at this time of night I think they are after somebody else.

Apologies just heard it is about Bertrand on tv. Wonder why there is the rush unless they are worried about somebody else going for him. Still don't understand it as he plays for us and is on loan until the end of the season, just seems a bit odd to me unless Chelsea need the money ?

There was talk that Schurrle had to be sold before Cuadrado could be signed so perhaps Chelsea need to balance the books and we can get a good deal.

I agree, it is Odd !! But Happy to tie him up

Quality signing and was at reduced cost to allow Chelsea to balance there books hence why so late. Add in the fact we didn't sign a centre mid means we had the cash to push through the Bertrand signing, personally very pleased we have signed him up just fingers crossed we get Toby to follow suit and then I'm a very happy man. Good work to Koeman and board.

Really good news! We may have negotiated a lower fee than what was in the original agreement. Would I be right in thinking that football clubs financial year ends in April? Same for everyone else? So they may have wanted to do it earlier to make balancing the books a little easier

After thinking about it for a couple of days I am wondering whether we wanted Ryan to sign up before anybody else goes in for him. If so good job well done.

Just read on saintsweb that the Dutch media are reporting that RK has finished his interest in Vilhena and may go after Kamohelo Mokotjo instead. He is a South African midfielder who plays for FC Twente and used to play for Feyenoord.

German Bundesliga side Mainz 05 have tweeted that 23-year-old Serbian attacking midfielder Filip Djuricic has joined Southampton on loan.
I wonder if that's an option to buy as well. Looked a good player at Benfica, but hasn't played much for Mainz this season, no goals or assists.

I am just a bit confused now the Vilhenna deal is off. Do any of you remember in a press conference from a few weeks ago when asked about whether we would bring in any new players in the January window what Koeman said ? I think he said that he needed to sign a forward player because we are a bit lacking in that area. If so especially since Shane got injured have there been no talks about a goal scoring forward since. All we seem to get is the concentration of signing more midfielders the only area on the field we are over subscribed and the main reason Jack Cork left, by the way I think we missed him on Saturday.

mmm, why get rid of players when there are no replacements (I understand Cork would have gone on a free) but to lose 3m for a potential CL place I think is worth a gamble.

We already have a depleted squad a few injuries and we look and play like a mid table team

Djuricic can play up-front whch is why he is a more important signing than Vilhenna.

I hate to go on about this but Djuricic is not a goal scoring forward and going along the same lines with what you say the theory was that Tadic would score us loads of goals with his record in Europe. I may be totally wrong but we need a proven goal scoring forward, if there isn't one available that's fine and we can't have one. Just think RoKo should say we need one but nothing is available which is suitable. One of the main reasons we did so well last season was because JRod scored a lot of goals and he is a ' goal scoring forward '. We don't have one.

deal fell through because Feynord wanted a replacement before any deal could be done. They could not find a target so deal is off

Djuricic deal dragging on and Feyenoord say we are undervaluing Vilhena. Our squad is wearing thin and would be disastrous for Champions league push if we don't get at least one of them. Hope Spider/Vic/Toby all come back soon!

Believable4 Unbelievable1

02 Feb 2015 11:29:03
According to some newspapers this morning, Djuricic is complete, a work permit now has to be arranged. Feyenoord understandably want to keep Vilhenna until the summer, so are going for good compensation pricewise £5m - £7m.
Also it has been stated that victor Wanyama is back in training today

Don't despair. any club will try to get top dollar in the January transfer window and the Djurcic move is complicated because he's already on loan at Mainz.
Worry at 10:50. even then the loan window will open after that.
