New manager linked with the saints job is Claude Puel, just goggled him and he's the manager of nice. anyone know anymore about him? ed, any ideas if he's what we are seriously looking at?

Believable3 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Actually I know Claude Puel pretty well but don't keep in contact really - but I did see him at the end of March. I am not aware of Southampton interest at this time, but a really nice guy.}

He took Lovren to OL.

Hi ED is it true that we have 2 manager targets? And is koeman one of them? ED thanks

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I am sure the club has looked at several including Koeman and Dan Petrescu.}

I had a look the other day when I see his name thrown in the hat.

Has a respectable record up until last year when from finishing 4th, Nice barely escaped relegation.

That doesn't always tell the tale as we know with Pochettino having troubles at Espanyol and the likes of Roberto Martinez at Wigan.

For me every contender has pros and cons. It's a hard choice.

For me the 5 main points to consider should be -

- Manner and professionalism
- Ability to keep players happy
- Attractive attacking style
- Credentials in the transfer market
- Integrity if other clubs come calling again

Agree8 Disagree0

For me it has to be between koeman and Puel they both have massive European experience Puel likes his teams to have high fitness levels and lots of pace according to uefa, both have pull in the transfer market personally I'd take Puel because of koemans free kick lol

Llanna has asked to leave after the world cup

I can't believe we aren't considering Uwe Rosler.

Popular ex Saint, very smart. Worked wonders with Brentford and then with Wigan.

Has made great strides with limited squads, and let's face it, our squad next season is bound to be limited - probably Boruc, Stephen Davis, Osvaldo and eight Academy kinds.

I reckon Uve could keep us up while Katherina disappears over the Alps with the loot.

Can we afford fabregas? would show some intent by the board

Agree9 Disagree8

Could afford to buy him but not his wages 150k a week I think

we could afford to buy him but his wages wouldn't fit

Agree8 Disagree2

Gaston is on over 100k a week, obviously a golden handshake of 2 mill covered the wages, i'm right in saying that I think Edd?

Agree1 Disagree6

{Ed002's Note - I don't understand the question.}

Gaston is not on 100k a week lol. 50k a week max and think osvado is on 75k and he is the highest paid. What a waste of money

Lambert to Liverpool official
Nice statement from Ricky, I think every saints fan will wish him luck.
Club statement also positive. Let's hope they stay true to their word about other offers. Although if we accepted over 30 for shaw, 30 for lallana, you can only say it's good business IMO

Rumoured to be in for Leo Ulloa from Brighton. £6.5m, leicster have been chasing him for £3-5m. Brighton reporoted to want £8m.

Safe to say that if we are interested, we won't pay more than we did for Jayrod for an older player with a worse goal scoring record.

Won't knock his ability, scored a good number of goals and how many of our "lower league" players are now on champions league wanted lists!

i must be the only one whos bitter about lambert joining liverpool. he said last summer he will finish his carrer at saints. he then asked for a move. we must all admit that he's only going to be a bench player as suarez and sturridge are both starting 11.
i think he's ruined his england chances too. soory , great player for us , but will be sadly missed.
another comment , do we seriously think we can find a replacement for £4million? someone who can also get 15 goals a season . don't think so. we've lost out

Agree7 Disagree8

No you are not the only one cyberchris. This deal was insane full cash up front with no add ons ( 9 Mill) would have represented good business and even then the sale should not have been entertained until after the world cup.
A deal being good for Ricky is one thing but the first priority is what is good for the club.
Also to the previous poster I don't see 30m as good business for Adam Lallana. he is irreplaceable therefore a minimum of 35m nett (ie 45-50 mill gross allowing 25% going to Bournemouth) I do concede that 30m for Shaw seems OK as Left backs are available to replace him but even there no sale should take place until after new manager and after world cup where his value can only increase.
Saints are in a great position reed should be dictating the terms not being bullied into early settlements.

Agree6 Disagree3

His legs are going he had an ok second half to the season he would of played for us off the bench this coming season as he will do at liverpool.

Be fair who in a million years would of guessed liverpool would bid for lambert. its a dream move for him AND his family moving back to there home can you really say its not a good move for all partys yes we have lost are talisman but he leaves a hero and on a high not a bit part player.

Agree13 Disagree1

This season Lambert was half as good as he was last season, if that happened again he'd hardly be worth keeping in the team. There's no way he would have got 15 goals again.

we don't necessarily have to spend 4mil on a replacement, but it's 4-9mil more towards that replacement we inevitably would have needed this/next summer anyway

The board are in control of transfers, Lambert is a special case where he asked to bored to accept and I believe them when they say no more will be sold until the manager takes control

Think you have to ask yourselfs if saints came in for you after finishing second in the league with luis suarez in the team would you be able to turn them down? I certainly wouldnt. Not to mention the fact we finished 8th. I for one wish him good luck and hope he wins the PL and CL double in his first season. After scoring the winning goal in the world cup final in just over a month that is!

Rickie Lambert- Southampton Legend

Agree11 Disagree1

Yes indeed cyberchris Rickie said last year he was more than happy to finish his career at saints but as he states the job was to go from bottom of league one to top half of prem which we achieved. The only club he would leave us for is Liverpool surely everyone has known that since he joined us! cheers for the memories Sir Rickie Lambert and enjoy your dream move back home!

If ronald koeman signs for southampton, there is a big possibility that he will take graziano pelle with him. He stated this a while back in holland.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

Great partnership with Osvaldo then - two italian strikers!

Agree3 Disagree1

Please no more Italian's

Agree9 Disagree2

Nothing wrong with Itallians as long as they are not abnoxios thugs

50 goals in 57 games, that's got to be a good record whatever league it's in

Agree6 Disagree0

Do u rate him ED?

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Yes, 15B.}

Ok ED when would you expect us to appoint a new boss by? And do you think koeman will be the new boss? ED

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I cannot answer questions about timing.}
